*note to mod. Didn't know if this was the appropriate forum. Kind of broad post..

So I got a tricky request from my boss and I am looking for possible solutions to it at the moment.
I need an embeddable database that can interact with flash, and has an interface (that isn't flash) that can run without a server. I am currently looking at SQLite. It has a flash wrapper that can be used to connect to it without some form of server side language.. it seems.

Does it have, say a JS interface to edit the DB?

I am open to suggestions, but it can't require the the use of servers or of software that needs to be installed...

Serverless Video-conferencing With Flash
Hi,

I'm looking to develop a flexible browser-based, video-conferencing package that doesn't require streaming all the video from a central server.

I know that browser-based video-conferencing packages are available for Flash, but all the ones I have come across require Macromedia's Communication Server. I would like to have a setup where video-conferencing could be done by logging into a server, and from then on all communications are made on a P2P level.

I have two questions regarding this idea:

1) Is it possible to send streamed Flash content from one client's webcam/headphone set to other client, both of whom are only using the Flash plugin? (The other client would need to make a request for the stream, which would be done through the connection to the cetnral server, but the stream itself would be sent directly to the client.)

2) Is it possible to multicast using Flash movies, so that the same stream can be sent to multiple clients simultaneously, or would this require a separate multicast server installation?

Creating An Embeddable Out Of One SWF And Surrounding Code
Hey mates,

I have a simple PHP page that I want to make into an embeddable....

It contains an input box for people to type some text (this saves into a DB). Then, on the right side, there is a flash SWF that pulls the text from the DB and makes the text look fancy.

These are two elements that need to be enclosed into 1 embeddable for a few of my friends to place on their blogs for fun.

I know most embeddable are just one clean swf file, but how would I integrate a SWF and it's surrounding PHP into one embeddable without having to do either of these last-resorts:

a) iframe the whole thing ... technically feasible, but not ideal.
b) remake the entire thing into one SWF (which takes a lot of work and re-design)

Any JS methods to make the embeddable code clean? (just a guess)

Database Driven Design Database?
Do forgive my vague query in the title here.

Greetings all. I'm new to the site. Have searched this site and others and did a lot of googling but haven't found what I'm looking for. Perhaps because the query is wrong.

There are two things I would like to accomplish:

1.

I have an archive of over 250 designs which I have titled in a specific alphanumerical order.

I'd like to put up a "catalog" of these designs online on my site (which is the site I want to create).

The functionality should be somewhat like this:

The 250 designs would be broken down into 3 categories.

Each category will have x number of designs (around 80 to 100).

A scrolling navigation for the designs is what I need. Although I have done a scrolling menu in the past, I've never done anything for so many designs.

The designs are already sitting on the server in the database.

I know that I can create the scroll menu such that once the thumbnail in the scrolling menu is clicked, it'll open another section of the page and load the larger version of the design. This is however tedious to do for over 200 designs.

I'm looking for a way that when the mouse clicks on the thumbnail, the place where the full scale of the design would be displayed knows which design to display.

2. The second part of this site should have search capability. For instance, if I key in the following code: SFA-1205 (which is a design number), it can search the database and display the design in the same viewable area I had designated for the first step.

Anyone any ideas?

Alright, so I have my database, ASP code to get the database, and I have my flash movie that gets the ASP. Now I want to send stuff form Flash to ASP and into my Database using a different ASP file. How can I do this?

Okay, heres a question for all you flash geniuses
is there any way to access a database from a flash movie, and if so, is there any way of displaying those results in the flash movie itself.
You see, i already know how to send variables out of the flash movie, to an asp page, which does the search and displays the results in a new html page.
BUT, is there any way to send the results of the search back to the movie, so it can display the results????

hey all,
here is my problem. I have designed a site entirely in flash 5 for a client, I have to add a cocktail section to the site, where the user can click on a alchohol brand, for instance "Midori". Once they click this then they get a list of all cocktails that have midori in them on the site. From this they can pick a cocktail and then are shown the ingredients.Does anyone know the best way to do this, I was told XML was the way to go but have never used it before? My problem is that I have no grasp on XML...does anyone have any kind of an example of this?

I use flash to load some variable from database (access) through asp. then the variable will appear in the textfield inside the flash movie.

it's ok to show english, but strange symbol will appear in textfield when there is some chinese charator.

I am trying to build an interface that pulls in values from an XMl script, and then gives me the ability to sort the values in the interface and pull in alternate values in Flash... Does anyone know if this can be done or have an example of such a mechanism?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to learn how to use XML as the way to connect to databse and pass parameters to search scripts... At this point I know how to generate dynamic XML from a table using ColdFusion and pass it to Flash using XML object or XML connector component... I also figured out how to send XML... One thing I can't figure out is how to pass a parameter to a script for a search query for example, sending XML... Is it possible or I have to send variables in URL string?

Any links or hints will be greatly appreciated.

i got stuck with a project that pretty much i have not idea how to do...

ok it's gonna be a map with the basic features, zoom in, zoom out, draggable and all that... easy

the problem is that i need to put about 4000 items in the map and once they click on them the info shows in another .swf with all the data: Name, Type, Location, report and a little thumbnail...

so pretty much i can get the data on any type of format.......

but i've never done anything like that and i wanna get some feedback on how to build it and how to easy on the bandwidth

I need to interact with a MS S-Server Database.

I can execute queries and parse it with XML.

But I need to build a structure (an array of associative arrays) to obtain a recordset.

I wonder if there is already any Object to easily do the same thing. A structure where to push data from the XML nodes.

And I'd like to execute SQL queries. But I have no idea on how to do it.

I use Flash 8 Professional and Actionscript 1.0/2.0 and ASP (not .Net) as Server-side scripting language.

I'm using FMS to record the stream from a camera... ok, nothing special here.
But, I need save this stream to a database: a Oracle 10g with Intermedia component enabled.

I'm trying to write a server-side script to get the stream and redirect it to the database, but after google a lot dont found a way to do this. Someone could give me a light?

ok, looking to connect to a CMS mySQL database to pull information....what kind of method/function would i use to begin doing this?

we're trying to find the best way to connect to our CMS and get info....we were thinking about pulling RSS and getting XML feeds but it would be better to directly connect.

any info would be great as I'm new to pulling from dynamic sites.

Which XML Database?
First off i am a designer not a coder. In past projects i have got as far as pulling in a xml file provided by a developer and making sense of the results. I do not know about Database stuff.

I have an idea and i am developing a cross platform flash application for the desktop. This app will need a database on the same desktop machine. It has been recommended to me that an XML databse is the way of the future for this.

But which one?
