My question is how can I import an MPEG video into flash? and once its imported, how can I export the finished flash movie in .swf format WITH the video?

The thing is I wanna make the imported video behave like a movie clip symbol, and place this video as a background for my movie.

hi i was wondering is there a way to have a place holder where the video should play when you click the button in flash and it will load my external mpegs? i read and looked at the tutorials but i cant figure it out, i dont want to loose that much quality for the movies. thats why im trying to keep it in mpeg. is asf or flv better quality. if flv than i guess i can do that and use an xml loader? please help, im going crazy!

Hello everyone, I manage the Toys for Tots TotsTV.org Web site (at http://TotsTV.org) for the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots foundation (the national children's charity). At http://TotsTV.org we feature a number of high quality family-friendly videos. All of the content on TotsTV.org is in Flash format, including the games and music, but the videos are a real problem for us and I wonder if anyone has advice on how best to solve the issue?

The problem is that although the video quality (size and resolution) is good, the videos are still very large (from 25MB to 35MB each!) and as a result most people at home can't view them. Our site stats show that thousands of people are abruptly leaving TotsTV.org once they try to view the videos, so the current solution is actually driving people away from this non-profit children's charity site!

Clearly we need to re-encode the videos (originals are in AVI format) using a better Flash compression tool. We've been using "Swish Video 2" from SwishZone, and we like the image quality but the file sizes are just too large. Are there better tools that we should use instead?

For TotsTV we need to keep the dimensions and visual quality of the videos the same as we have now (high quality overall), but we really (REALLY!) need to reduce the file sizes to something more reasonable that a home user can download in timely fashion.

Any advice, pointers or direction you could give me would be a great help to me personally and the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots foundation. Thank you very much for your help!

Flash Audio Problem, Setvolume Not Doing Anything
Hi all,

I have a simple flash movie, which has two tracks that play one after the other (stream) and then loop back to the beginning.

These two tracks are in a movie clip called "mymusic" on the main timeline.

I then have a mute button in its own movie clip that stops and starts the mymusic movie (so it pauses rather than right up mutes).

Now, I have created the volume control slider.

Exactly the same method as used here.

Now when I drag the slider the volume is not being set. Does anyone have any idea why this would be.

I've also tried just doing a

mymusic.setvolume(0);

To see if I can force the volume to 0 and it still has no effect.

I've also tried changing the audio playback type so its not streaming, its just playing and that is not working.

I have a feeling its due to how I am handling the music, so I guess the question is; am I overlooking something or is there a way to globally set the volume of a Flash movie (regardless of where the sound is coming from, just set the overal volume)?

Any help here will be greatly appreciated.

Hello- im having a world of trouble in-regards to getting my audio to mute and resume by using a button within my opening animation for a website.

I'm not sure if its because im using a MC for my mute function, (to house the 2 buttons mute and loud) or if its just my n00b syntax- and placement of actionscript. Anywho- its doing my head in- so if your curious as into what the hell im on about- you can find the link to the file here.

Is it possible to insert mpeg4 video into flash. I have heard that its possible through director but that isnt of any use to me. If not is there a component around that allows you to view this video format. I am interested inthis because i like to film every now and again, and mpeg4 is unreal in terms of compression (real or just under DVD quality that can be streamed through a 512kb line no problem

ok guys, I'm doing a CD-ROM project and I need some advice. I have an intro that I'm using that was done by someone else that I need to import and use for a Flash CD that I'm doing. My problem is that I've tried a few different ways importing it, but everytime it's extremely lossy and slow. I wanted to know if my fellow Kirupians have any suggestions on how to make it look as good as possible.

Is the answer as simple as using a 3rd-party piece like Sorenson Squeeze? It wouldn't be a problem if it were for the web, but since it's gonna be on CD, I want it to be as nice as possible!

MPEG, DHTML, And Flash? Can It Be Done?
Hey everybody. I need some real help here. I'm working on a Kiosk and most of it (almost all of it) has been done in Flash without a problem. However, I'm now told that a video has to be included. I know that "good" video can't be imported into Flash, but I have an idea... i just dont know how to make it work.

If I have the Flash movie loaded in a fullscreen browser window, then I was thinking I could use DHTML Layers. I'd make one layer where the Flash movie would be on, and another where the video (and maybe play/stop controls) would be. The video layer would be behind or hidden for most of the time. Then I when I need the video to appear, I would make the layer visible (superimposed) ontop of the Flash movie... using some Actionscript with a button in Flash.

I'm not sure if this could be done, and I haven't had any luck. I really need some help. If anybody knows how to do this or any other way... please letme know.

I've been working on a Flash cartoon for a while, and I'm finally finished. This has resulted in several questions if I can burn it out as a MPEG1 file. The problem now is that I made the entire animation inside one big movie clip. Quicktime goes totally bananas and just loops the start of the movie clip, ignoring the rest of the movie, while AVI doesn't understand Jack **** about Movie Clips.
So why not copy frames and send it out as a quicktime then? That works. Yes... but the cartoon was made in 450x340, and I would like to export it out in 640x480, something which results in having to fix the size of all the frames.

So my question is this: Is there a plugin or a program to export out Flash films to Quicktime/AVI/MPEg which is a 100 times better than the one integrated in Flash?

I need to know how to steam an MPEG video into a Flash movie.

The MPEG I'm using is rather large, and users will not wait for the complete video to load, so I need a way to stream it.

That would be great if anyone could help me to stream my MPEG.

And if this is possible, is there anyway to create the 'Buffering' bar type thing, so just in case the streaming video catches up with the amount of video downloaded, instead of just stopping the video, it will say 'Buffering, 60%' or 'Buffering 75%' on the bottom left corner, or something like that.

URGENT: Flash Is NOT Importing All Of My MPEG
Hi people.

I am trying to import a piece of mpeg video, which is 24.17secs long.

The problem is that Flash will only import the last 3 seconds.

What am I doing wrong?

I am importing to Library

I have the quality pushed to 100% (as the presentation it is embedded within is not going on the web).

I have the keyframe interval down at 1, to create a keyframe for every frame of the mpeg

The scale is set at 60%, as this is the size that I need it.

Can someone please help - urgently!

Playing MPEG, AVI And FLV In Flash - Without Encoding
Hi,
I was trying to play different video formats in flv player, but as known flv player plays only .flv files. Is there anyway by which we can stream different video formats in flash i.e. either of MPEG or AVI. I do not want to use any encoder, using which manually i must encode the files first and then play. Moreover at the end of the day, i want to use this application in Linux in which i cannot install encoders.

The application is in this way, an XML file will have all the list of filenames, from which i want to read and play in flash subject to click and the xml file can have any format video files.
