Flash :: Shine Effect Kirupa Tutorial

Question On Kirupa Creating The The Shine Effect Tutorial
Hi all, I am a newbie to Flash and a newbie to this Forum and was wondering if somebody could answer my question or direct me to the appropriate place for an answer.

I followed this shine tutorial http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx2004/shine.htm
and had some questions as far as applying this tutorial to the example file provided or to my file.

1. There is a bottle in the example swf file, lets say I wanted to use an image that I made in photoshop, how can I make a shape of this in FLASH as opposed to the rectangle.

2. How do I speed up the tween? Do I just make the fps shorter?

3. In the prodided swf file, it seems as if the bottle glows once the shine passes through, I did not see how to do this in the tutorial.

Help With The Shine Effect Tutorial
I understand the tutorial, but the the sample movie on the page with the tutorial has a fade in like effect with the bottle once the gradient moves across the screen. I wanted to know how to get that fade in effect that I'm seeing.

I'll try to explain a little more in detail. I see the gradient go across the shape, but then it looks as though the bottle fades in from the middle out and replaces a white silhouette.

Hi guys, i got a little problem with the kirupa shine effect tutorial. i followed it step by step, but instead of drawing a shape to be masked a used a photo.jpg
Everything was alright till i tested it, my photo disappeared. I just can see the shine effect but not the photo. i did it for about 5 times as same as the tutorial but got not results.
If somebody knows where is the problem please help.

I've basically downloaded the source files and then switched the rectangle shape for an image. That didn't work as the image was a graphic where in the tutorial it was a shape. So I broke the graphic down until it was a shape but it still doesn't work.

Anyone faced this problem before or does anyone have any ideas on what the solution maybe

i have tried to use the shine effect tutorial u have on your site.and instead of a simple shape that u draw i imported a graphic from outside.
I try to run it afterwards and i see no sign of my graphic!!
does anybody know why is that? and how can i do the same as in your example with the bottle!!

I want to only shine the text I have, so I cannot just simply draw a square around the area I want to mask. I need to outline the text. Is there anyway to outline the text I want to mask in the 'Area' layer? I know I can use the paintbrush to specify what I want to mask, but to go over ALL the text with a paintbrush would take hours. Any suggestions?

o'm a newbie in flash. i have diifuclties to make a shining effect like ultrashock above. i had a logo (png) and i want to give it a moving shine. i can do this using text, but i can't do it using image. thank's in advance.

what i did was make a graphic and add the alpha fade and made a motion tween of it scrolling over the graphic..but it didnt work. it looks nothing like what i want...please help!!

I need to make something like a gold shining effect out of this text (as attached) ...I've seen tons of cheezy effects , does anyone have a good tutorial , example in flash or even after effects example of this? I need something that looks good and there are no restrictions on type of shine as long as it has that goldy feel.

Shine Effect Question
I read the tutorial on the Shine Effect but I have a few questions.

1st: On the tutorial, it shows a bottle on the sample movie. I was wondering how to do that same thing instead of just using a shape.

2nd: This isn't really a Flash question but an image question in general. How can I transfer an image to Flash and have it as just the image? Heres what I mean. If I open an image in photoshop, delete the background, and just select the image. When I copy and paste it into Flash, it has a white box around it.

3rd: Heres my last question. When I did the tutorial with the shape, I want it to do the shine effect and then bring up the shape. All it does though is do the shine effect and thats it. How can I do this?

when i do this in flash MX, not flash MX2004, on step VI, it indicates that it is a motion tween not a shape tween.
however, in flash mx, it will only allow me to perform a shape tween, will this affect my work?

I was going through the "Creating the Shine Effect" tutorial written by Sharif, and couldn't get my version to work. If the original file (the Afri bottle) or a better file is available I would definitely like to take a look.

Also, I'm looking for a sizzling/static look - like a Matrix effect (not the text Matrix effect). If anyone can point me in the right direction, a link, an fla, anything would be helpful.

Masking Shine Effect

The flash at the top of the page where their images shine.

Now I have the shine effect working to an extent. I want to be able to mask the shine effect so it only happens on a particular image. Currently it just shines the whole document.

This is gonna be kinda confusing so :

image a = .swf with the shine effect
original = original image to be shined
image b = background
image c = mask trying to display only image a with the shine rather than the whole document

I had to make 2 flash documents for this because, to my knowledge, you can't mask a mask in flash. so i just imported the flash swf into the 2nd document (image a).

I've tried to make a image c black everywhere but image a's area (likewise with all white image).
I've tried using original to mask the swf but that also failed.

With video work, I think I recall that white is what you want to show...havn't worked with it in a while so I could be wrong.

If anyone know's / can help with what I'm trying to do, I would appreciate the help if possible.

Make Shine Effect In Image In One Section Only
Hi im new on this forums looks great im from Panama Latinamerica Alexis, i need some help doing the animated shine effect in a image. I make it in Flash cs3 i choose a banner .jpg the image have a section with text named taekwondo i do my best to make shine effect to that section i use pen tool to draw all the contour of the text so the shine effect only happens in the painted area. I attached the .jpg .fla and .swf. If theres another easy way to do that effect more easy without painting i have no good pulse in my hand to make it perfect. Thanks in advance.

Kirupa Tutorial ?
I followed the full website tutorial found it great _ But the only thing I didn't get was how did you inbedded the text in the buttons
EX when you presed the membership button __ the text --a membership is open to everyone pops up_ how was this done ??

On my page I assigned an action to the button(about)_ on (release) {

Heres the thing i assigned the same script for a news button too

But when i test the movie you can press the about button and get info _ but the news button doesn't work
But if you refresh and click the news button first it works fine but the about button doesn't work -- what to do

On my site i have a porfolio button _ the page shall contian small tumbnails _ when clicked they inlarge _ Can I do all this in the same layer as my main frame or do I have to build it in a new layer or movie clip ????

i built my website accroding to the tutorial "creating a full flash site" in Kirupa tutorial section.
the main page is empty and has an empty target MC.

whenever i click on any of the navigation buttons, an external SWF is called and loaded in the target MC.

how can i make the empty main page load immediately the "about" page ?? i dont want it to be empty. i want the first empty page to calls the "about.swf".

i have attached screnshots of the main, about and pictures pages.

anyone can help ???

I've been playing with the flash and XML slide show (http://kirupa.com/developer/mx2004/xml_slideshow.htm) tutorial from this site. I have changed it a bit so it uses the loader component to load swfs instead of jpgs into a movie clip. I have my component set to scale the content of the swfs when they are loaded so they completely fit in the 647X80 I am loading them into the loader but its not rescaling them, Any ideas?

Help With A Kirupa Tutorial
I want to alter some code within this tutorial from kirupa:

I'll only have one movieclip flying around the stage, but I need to restrict it from entering a certain area.

My stage is 600x450 and in the middle of the stage I want to put a text area that is approx 450x250 and I'll populate this with text from xml doc. But basically I don't want my flying object to go into the text area... so it either bounces off of or swerves away from it when it gets near it.

I'll probably make the boundaries larger than the stage so my object flys out of view every now and then.

Kirupa Pop Up Tutorial?
hi, i am trying to use this tutorial

to produce a pop-up window showing a movie called noticeboard.swf
I have managed to achieve this in a test movie by changing one line of code (the target URL) which you can see if you click on the right hand button at this link

The problem is when i try to use the same button with the same actions applied to it in my actual website...it does nothing at all!!you can see this by going to the "about us" page at

The only difference i can think of is that it is contained in a longer movie and i may not have pasted the actions that appear in frame 1 of the tutorial into the correct frame in the main website. Where should these actions go?? Or is the problem something else??

please help me, im going out of my mind.
