Change Stage Size (not Scale) Based On Browser Size?
Not sure this can be done. I've looked through LOTS of resizing tutorials, but they don't do exactly what I want, and I'm not sure it's possible.
Basically, I have a slideshow that loads from xml and fades in a variety of sizes of images in random positions. I'm trying to set it up so that the swf (which is in a div tag in an interface) will resize depending on the browser size and will use the NEW stage size to determine the x/y position of the images (without resizing them) and will skip any images that are too big for the stage size...
Any ideas if this is possible? Dynamically sizing and determining the "working area" of a swf based on the browser/div size?? Any tutorials out there?? I can figure out the code, I just need to know where to start...
THANKS!!!!
Stage Size Vs Published Size Question
Ok here is the dilema...
I have a 500w x 350h stage. For testing I have imported a picture the same size as the stage and placed a 1 pixel border around it.
When I preview the movie, the border shows up fine all around the imported picture but when I publish it to the web, I only see a border on the left and top edge. The right side and bottom are missing.
Here is the web version: Test Site
Here is the fla:
Stage Size And Dyn. Text Fiel Size
I'm verrrrrrry close to solve my problem...
I'm using a dynamic text box that will contain external text. The lenght of the text may be just a few words or can be as long as a small paragaph.
I've found a way to make my text box longer to fit the amount of text in it with this line of code:
mytextbox.autoSize = true; (This is great!!!!!!!!)
Now... The size of the flash i'm using have to be longer or shorter depending of the size of the dynamic text box...
How can I do that? The Flash need to folow the size of the text box... It will display my blog titles on an html page.
Is it possible?
About Stage Size And Workspace Size
I have a stage size of 600*400 and i need to create a big big movie clip (about 4000*3000), at one time only a small part of the clip is seen and we can scroll to see the whole thing.
The problem is that the size of the workspace is 2040*1820 and i don't know how to enlarge it (except by resizing the stage).
Any idea ?
Page Size - Stage Size
Hi
I'm just about to embark on a Flash site
I've researched how to make the Flash full size in the browser with Javascript
but I'm still unsure about the actual Flash stage size - does this mean that the stage size gets zoomed up to the users browser size - is resolution lost?
550 x 450 seems small these days? is it?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated
it's for a photography site so nice big images are paramount
thank you flash kitters

[F8] Screen Size / Stage Size
I saw something great awhile ago and I would like to recreate it but not got a scooby how to start
Not done any action scripting for a few years now so a little rusty but I am looking for a general push in the right direction to get me started and a bit of advice to see if my thoughts are going in the right direction.
A website I visited about a year ago had a flash background set into a DIV tag, the actual flash file was 4 randomized white clouds moving quite slowly on a pale blue background, the main website which was in a 800px sized DIV tag over the GB DIV was 800PX across and set to center.
At the time I thought this quite impressive and though flash must of improved vastly in its latest version and finally allowed screen detection sizes to be set to stage sizes but from what I have read apparently NOT lol
So how the hell did they do it? not surprisingly the website well the page was a sports section on the BBC's website not surprised they got it working with the cash they through at it
So got any ideas?
All I want to do is detect the screen size set the stage size to that then place 10x10 images (Random 30 files) with a 4PX border then every 25 seconds have the images randomize again and fade into the new images.
Sounds easy but apparently NOT.
Thanks in advance.

Stage Size HELP
I CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO THIS
if anybody has yahoo! mail, then they know what i'm talking about. on the top of the inbox page there's a blue hp icon (it's actually a flash movie) that when you rollover a large text box comes up and covers up some of the other stuff on the page.
i would like to do that, but with a menu where when you place it in the web page, it only takes up a certain amount of room, but then when you rollover a part of it, the submenu that comes down will cover whatever's under the main part. so basically, i want the submenu to not have to be part of the space i leave for the swf file.
does anybody get what i mean or am i not making any sense? if not just tell me and i'll try to explain it again. thanks

Is there a way to specify where the extra space I add to the stage will be added to?
I have a movie already ready and need to add 50 more pixels to the top of the movie, but when I modify the stage size (via modify->movie)the extra space is always added at the bottom of the page.
Alternatively - is there an easy way to move the WHOLE movie (all 20 layers together) down ?
Thanks a lot.

What's The Best Stage Size?
I usually publish my sites at the default (550 x 400). But it looks really small. I figure they do that because there's people out there with their monitors set to 640 x 480. What is the best size if you're going to make the site a pop-up movie?
Any thoughts would be great. Thanks.

What Stage Size Should I Use?
I have to complete a flash movie that will be used at a trade show. The monitor is a 20” LCD flat screen multi-sync, res 1024x768, ratio 4:3. What should the stage size be?
Thanks for any help

Stage Size
OK, I posted this before. no comments.
At least pl. tell me yes or no.
<< my flash movie's original stage size is 800X600. (CD Rom) this includes couple of animations on the main timeline. work is completed almost 75%
now i have an issue, the stage size needs to be 950X750. when I increase the stage size as you know it increases from x0 and y0. the result is my movie is off centered. i want this to be in the centre. Fireworks, Photoshop have a control when you increase the canvas size but Flash doesn't.
any one knows a trick to solve this prob???
finally I tryed to use loadMovie function on to a new movie sized 950X750. but the animation is not smooth as normal.
Appreciate your help.
Stage Size
hi,
i was wondering if there is an ideal stage size or publish mode for making all flash website. Is the size of the stage determined by what screen size the viewer is expected to use when viewing the site or is there some other way of doing things?
thanks.

I know a flash movie can only be like 2880x2880 px. But, does that include the space off the stage, and if not how far away could I send something off the stage? For instance, could I send an mc to xpos = 100000, ypos = 100000?

Hello,
Whats the best size to set the canvas in flash so that on a pc with 1024x786 ( and all toolbars on ) the screen is filled completely.
Stage Size
I am trying to set up my flash movie and I am a little perplexed by the stage size. I was told that I should use 550x400 to accomodate people with small screen sizes. I find that extremely small and useless. I don't want to watch a movie that is a little box in the middle of my screen.
I know I could publish it so it stretches accordingly with the window size, but the problem is that I have jpgs that get extremely pixelated when I do that. My page is all about pictures and if they are tiny then what's the point of looking at them if you can't even tell what's on them.
Also what effect does screen resolution have on this?
Any suggestions?

Max Stage Size?
Hi,
I'm using Flash MX 2004 Pro, I just tried to resize the stage to 1000px, then when I publish it cuts of the top and bottom of my movie. Anyone know why this is happening because its really annoying me? Surely there can't be a maximum size you can set the stage to, that would cause no end of problems. Someone please tell me if I'm doing something wrong.
Thanks.

I have seen it done, but I can't remember how.
I need to resize the stage but I need it to change from the center, not from the top left corner. Could someone help me please?
Stage No Re-size
Hi there,
Would like a quick response if possible.
I have a swf file, where the size of the stage is 640x480 px.
When opened on another computer the stage re-sizes to the full-screen which I don't want.
What coding do I need to specifiy the size of the stage so this does not occur.
Where does this code need to go (sorry not good with action script)?
Thanks

Stage Size?
Hello again,
I have a problem.
1) I can set the stage to a specific size, 150px x 150px.
2) I make a box with 1 px borders.
3) I make the box the same size as the stage, 150px x 150px.
4) I align the box to the center of the stage both horizonally and verticle.
The problem is, when published, the border is cut off of the left and bottom. If I add 1px to the width and height of the stage, then the full border is visible. Is the dimensions of a box the interior, and the border adds extra pixels? This really ruined my first project. Thanks for your advice.
Thanks,

How do i create a movie so that the stage size fits the screen size of the user?
for example, if i create a movie in 1280x768 it is way too big for the user with a desktop size of 800x600, vica verca.
Stage Size
hi there!
is there any way to change the stage size within a movie? or if you have a movie that is say 550 px in height....if you load a movie into that one that has a smaller stage...is there a way to have the swf file be the new stage size instead of the original? does that make sense?
I have a swf file on an html page and when you load the new movie which is smaller it looks dumb with the blank space below the movie ...
thank you!
Kari
Stage Size?
I am creating my first flash intro and I need to know what size to set the stage at.
People view their computer screens at different resolutions i.e. 800x600 or 1029x768 etc...
Now this may be different for the actual website itself but this is just the intro page.
What is the safest size to set your stage at for the intro page that would balance between the more popular resolutions people view their monitor at.
Thanks alot in advance.

[F8] Stage Re-size On The Fly
I'm starting a new website from scatch (entirely flash), and want to make sure I start this the right way. If I set my stage size, can it be changed on the fly? Do you need to load another SWF in the background and make it seamless?
I'd like to use 1000 x 500px or so, but if I need to show more information on some pages, I'd like the option to stretch it out to 1000 x 600px.
I've seen it done on Acura.com's site.

Stage Size
Hi guys, i have yet a nother riddle for everyone.
I made a Movie in wich clips align their _x, and _y according to stage height, and width.
Now, when i re-size the stage i would love it if they jumped to their correct places.
So, i added a listener for stage re-size and it works.
Now, problem is, eaven if i re-size the stage, flash thinks the stage's height, and width are the same as when the file was published.
So i added
ActionScript Code:
Stage.scaleMode = "noScale"
This corrected the problem, but for some reason as i scale the swf larger, the content goes higher, if i scale the swf smaller, the content goes lower...
Can anyone please help me out,
I really appriciate your time
~Gabor
Stage Size
I'm building a flash website. In my swf on the main timeline I've got a background MC and my main content MC. I setup a stage listener so that when the stage is resized my background MC stretches to cover the whole stage, and my main content MC is scaled appropriately. This way my background always takes up the entire browser window, but my content is never distorted. I think that part works fine, but the problem is that there is always a few pixels between the edge of the browser and my movie clip. This gives it a slight border that I don't really want. I am publishing the html from flash. Below is my stage listener code, my publish settings, and the link to the site i'm working on. If anyone can help me remove that small border I'd be grateful.
ActionScript Code:
Stage.align = "LT";
Stage.scaleMode = "noScale";
stageListener = new Object();
stageListener.onResize = function() {
//Setting main_mc in center of stage and scaling it as large as possible
main_mc._x = Stage.width/2;
main_mc._y = Stage.height/2;
if(Stage.width/Stage.height > 875/550){
main_mc._xscale = main_mc._yscale = Stage.height/5.50;
}else if(Stage.width/Stage.height < 875/550){
main_mc._xscale = main_mc._yscale = Stage.width/8.75;
}
//stretching the background to take up the entire stage
background_mc._width = Stage.width;
background_mc._height = Stage.height;
}
Stage.addListener(stageListener);
//Forcing resize as soon as it is loaded
stageListener.onResize();
HTML Publish Setting:
Dimensions: Percent
Width: 100%
Height 100%
Window Mode: Window
HTML Alignment: Default
Scale: No Scale
Flash Alignment: Horizontal - Center, Vertical - Center

Stage Size
ok, so my user's will have A LOT of different resolutions so i need to dynamically resize the SWF that's embedded in the HTML depending upon the user's resolution. really i just want it to resize smaller when the user has less then a 1024 x 768 resolution because that's the actual size of the original SWF. i figured it out standalone but i can't so it when it's wrapped in HTML.
all i could find is this:
Word
i can't get the class to work on even on an empty file. i get this error:
1180: Call to a possibly undefined method addFrameScript.
Stage Size
In photoshop if you want to change the canvas size they give you an option of which direction you want to add or subtract the canvas. Is there a way to do something similar in flash or does it always add to the right side.
My problem is that I have a fla with a ton of key frames. Right now my stage size is 100w x 500h. I need to make it 600w x 500h, but I need to add the extra width to the left of the objects on the stage and not the right. It will take me a month of sundays to move all the objects in the key frames over. Right now they all start at 0,0. I now need them to start at 400,0.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

My imported graphics are larger than the standard stage size in Flash Pro 8. How do I size them to the stage so they fit properly into my swf and html files after publishing?

Maybe my question should have been how do I increase the size of the flash 8 stage so that my imported graphics, which are larger than the standard stage size, fit onto a larger stage. Hope that's not too confusing.
Stage Size For Web?
What stage size should be set for making SWF files that will display on

Stage Size?
I just started going through the online tutorial "Using flash for the first time" and I was wondering if it is possible to make a stage have a dynamic size. I know the right answer is to use FLEX or Silverlight (we use Silverlight at work), but I am curious to know if it is possible to create something that will scale with the browser.

Set Stage Size?
Is there a way to have the stage size change during this one section that is vertically longer? I'd prefer not to have the html scrollbar through the whole site, but I need overflow to show for this one page of the Flash website (website is one long timeline with labeled frames for each of the pages)
Thanks to all the smarties!

Help /w Stage Size
Hello,
I have a video clip 640x480 that is embedded into the timeline. On the side, I have a bar that is 60x480.
Now, I want to make the movie stretch over the whole screen on full-screen mode, and the bar will be over the movie (Unlike normal-mode that the side bar is on the right of the movie).
I don't manage doing this right:
I have tried to define the stage 700x480 - But when I go to full screen, the movie doesn't stretch over it all.
When I define the stage 640x480, the initial window only shows the video, and does not present the area of the side bar.
For summery, I would like to know if there is a way to change the window size of the player within the action script code. Or to instruct the full-screen mode to stretch only the movie over the whole screen, while still allowing to present the side bar in normal mode.
Thanks,
OML

Hi there,
I have created a flash movie and the stage size is 800x600 but the final movie is going to be viewed on a 50" display screen.
Will the flash movie resize to the 50" screen?
Or will I have to create the flash movie with a 50" stage?
Any help would be appreciated!

SWF Stage Size
Hello, I am creating a window to display externally loaded flash animations/movies in. My current aim is to have a movieclip called 'MovieFrame' that will be the clip used to have the external animation load into.
_root.MovieFrame.loadMovie("Animation.swf",1);
I have four 'frame/border' images that set their widths and heights according to the width and height of the mc, 'MovieFrame', so that whatever size it is, it has a lovely border.
My aim is to make the mc 'MovieFrame' set itself to the size of the animation that is loaded into it by reading that info somehow.
My question is how to aquire that info and set 'movieframe' to change size accordingly.
Your humble student,
Gaz.
