Slowing Down A Swf File To Examine A Technique

Does anyone know how to slow down a SWF file so that you can step through the file one frame at a time. I basically want to look at how visual effects are created.

Just to make this clear i'm not looking for a way to look at fla files. I just want to be able to see how visual effects are created (fades/wipes/text effects/rollovers) etc.

I hope this isnt classed as copying, it's not my intent to rip off anyone's work, I am just interested in the technique. I get a lot of inspiration of stuff like MTV and will often pause playback (Tivo here) so that I can get a closer look at a effect that they have used.

Someone Please Examine My .fla
I've tried for a week or so to figure this out, so know this is not my first attempt. I have been working on a game similar to colums for sega. Where I am right nopw is I have a movie clip which has 4 frames, the 3 colored tiles and empty. I also have a function which biulds a map of these tiles and names the instances. those work fine, my next step is to detect the stopping of the falling tiles and repopulate the map based on a multidimensional array. I figure the besat way to look at this is to have everything in context so heres the .fla: http://www.creativexplosion.com/columnsGame.fla .
This has been driving me crazuy any and all help is appreciated.

How Can I Examine FLV Properties?
I downloaded a FLV file and want to know what size, bitrate, framerate, etc that is was recorded in. If I open the file in Flash 8 Pro it just wants to build a player around it and create a new file. I can't figure out how to directly examine the properties of the FLV file.

Is there a way to do this with Flash 8, or does anyone know of another utility that will let me examine the properties of a FLV?

Thanks for your help!

Misplacing A Box, Please Examine My Scriping And Help Me
Hey Hardcore Action-Scripters-
I have a problem. I have recently learned a few tricks with actionscript, but I am having a bit of difficulty with the movie I am working on. I have three boxes set up in the corner in the upperleft corner of the movie.
The sublimation box moves to the left.
The engraving box moves downward.
The contact box should move into the space between the two, but stops short of its target. I have set the location to where it should stop, but what seems to be happening is the box reaches the end of the y movements before it reaches the end of the x movements. Could anyone help me perfect my motion? Movie is at http://www.groovegrounds.com/indid.html
Downloadable .FLA is at http://www.groovegrounds.com/indid.fla
Please download and help me with my problem!
Thanks alot

Examine Array Contents (counting Like Values)
I am using Flash MX 2004 Pro.

An array of a known length (lets say 10), can contain values (say from 0.01 to 9999.99).
How would I ensure that there are no more than X occurances of the same value within the array?

I was thinking of looking at each value and checking along the array to see how many times that value is repeated. Has anyone any pre written function/code that will do this?

Many thanks.

What Is This Technique?
Hi, I'm new to this forum and could use some guidance.

I don't consider myself a flash guru, but I know enough to fake it.

But I was wondering if someone could tell me what this technique is. Go to this site: http://www.agriculture.com/ and the second ad on the right, Kinze...

The way it mouses-over with a bigger image, or flash movie... is there a name for that technique? Is it a tooltip? I want to learn how to do that but have no idea what to search for. I searched for "flash tooltips" and found this site.

Thanks in advance

What Is This Technique?
Hi everyone,
I'm am new to this forum and to as2. I'm in the process of learning this language. Hopefully, one day I'll become good enough to answer some of the questions people ask on here. In the meantime, I need some help.

I'm building myself a website in flash for my graphic design portfolio. I have a few ideas of how I want it done, but I know what I want requires some advance actionscript.

What I have in mind is something similar to what was done on here http://rainbowartglass.com/flademo/main.swf
See how the corner of the pages fold when the cursor is on it. What is this technique called? Is there a tutorial for it? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

New Css Technique
I moved this post here because it seems more appropriate.
This hasn't been done before as far as I know. I'm attempting to get a list apart to listen and allow me to publish a tutorial there.

So, this is the only place I could think of to publish at. I'm here to show my discovery of how to implement multi layer backgrounds and make a completely fluid design with as many columns as I wish. This is the test page for my sites redesign.

http://www.zioncreation.com/new/

It works in Safari 2.0, IE6, IE5 for mac, Mozilla 1.5 for mac, and Firefox 1.0.6. Test it out on others for me, but I think this will work with all css 2 browsers.

Please Help On Technique
Hi,
Just hoping that someone (anyone) will help me. I've come across these templates and was wondering how the designer did this. I'm sorry that I'm such a newbie that I dont even know the name of the technique. But what I'm talking about is how Flash seems to be moving inside of this picture...making it almost 3d like. Is this easy to do? Can I do it in Flash5 or is this something unique to MX? How can I do this...what should be my first step in designing like this? Below are some expamples of what I'm talking about.:

1. http://www.templatemonster.com/show....om_=any&to=any

2. http://www.templatemonster.com/show....om_=any&to=any

Any Help/Information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What Technique Is This?
There was a flash (transition?) effect with photos that I had seen quite some time ago, but unfortunately have been unable to locate it again. There was some sort of transition effect that would take multiple photos... Each photo had the normal fade-in/fade-out transition, but there was also a slight random directional movement from one corner of the image to another - per image.

So, image 1 would fade in and flow from the top left to bottom right.
...image 2 would fade in and flow from right-middle in a curving pattern towards the top left.
...image 3 would fade in and do some other random panning and zooming with acceleration (or decelleration).

From what I recall, it was a specific type of technique, but I just can not find it. Does anyone know of anything similar? I'm looking to create something similar but it's been years since I've worked with Flash.

Which Technique Is This
Anyone know what technique this is?
art exhibit site

it involves scrolling images that become larger when hovered and a message box appears as well. very nice. I would like to learn it. I am a new in flash (beginner) but still want to get this part in my repertoire.

thanks

Loading Technique
what Im wanting to do is call an external .swf file into my main.swf file but use a preloader in the main .swf file while the external one finishes loading. Not sure of how to do this... any ideas?

.html
Embedded is "main.swf"
Click a button to load "new.swf"
Preloader in "main.swf", when finished loading

go to "new.swf" frame 1 and play.

Am I on the right track?

Background Technique

http://www.craigdavid.co.uk/site/home.php

Thank you very much

Image Pan Technique..help...
Hi All,

I need to do a menu interface where the whole interface is a picture...

I will have a row of buttons or text links that when clicked will pan and zoom to a certain part of an image quickly...

I assume actionscript is the way to go, but it's been about 2 years since I've done any semi-serious scripting...

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Shorthand Technique
quick easy one, i think...is there a fast way to write:

mcBox._x=mcCircle._x
mcBox._y=mcCircle._y
mcBox._xscale=mcCircle._xscale

essentially, mcBox is going to take on some properties that mcCircle already have. i am using mcCircle as my refrence for flash, and would love to speed up the tedious typing....any ideas?

Preload Technique
If you look on http://www.rbk.com/us/basketball/

Can someone give me a tutorial / info / source file ?

WOuld be great if someone could help me

What Would You Call This Technique?

Best Z-sorting Technique?
hi, i'm building an isometric engine and was wondering what would be the best z-sorting algorith. I've set a pretty basic one just setting the main sprite at the nex index of the current grid space he's in. But that is not very efficient...

Anyone knows a good method or a tutorial? Thanks...

What Is Your Programming Technique
I have a question about programming in general.

I've been doing smaller less complex scripts in my movies so I can focus on each button or script at a time but as they get more complex I am wondering how does everyone breaks down the task of building their actionscripts?

Suggest A Technique
I'm working on an animation and originally I planned on using subtititles at the bottom of each scene.
Instead, I'll be using cutaway text pages like in old silent movies.

What is the best way to do this?

I initially used scenes, but there are 6 scenes in the movie and about 250 lines of dialogue, so my scene list was a complete mess and impossible to keep track of.

Each text page runs for 40 frames.
The majority of the actual animation is completed, so I am looking for the easiest way to add 40 frame breaks to all the layers of all the scenes.

Website Technique - How Do You Go About Doing This?
:-)

Hi

Does anyone know the typical approach to designing a site such as this:
http://www.brothersofthehead.com

I viewed my temporary internet files after visiting this site and noticed that there are several swf files asscoiated with the site so I guess they all get loaded in with actionscipt?

What kind of approach do I need to take to build a site such as this?

Thanks

Advice On This Technique
Hi everyone, hope you are all excited by the impending festive season.

I was hoping someone could tell me how to achieve the effect shown on the intro to the Prince of Persia site.

How have they managed the zooming/scrolling effect firstly and then also kept the file size down because there is a mass of imagery used?

How Do You Do This Masking Technique?
Hi

Please see link below:

http://www.templatemonster.com/flash...tes/13425.html

Can anyone give me some pointers as to how to achieve the masking effects that are applied once a thumbnail is clicked in the gallery section of this template:

I think it is the same mask that is just dynamically applied to the appropriate graphic/movieclip but how is this done?
Also, somehow the layers are put in the correct order depending on what thumbnail is clicked on.
Should I be using setMask()?
Should I be using linkage of movie clips in my library or should all the movieclips I need to use already be on the stage?

If anyone can help me get started with this I'd really, really appreciate it.

Cheers

What Is This Animation Technique?
www.josephlaporte.com/main.html

When you move between different images, it slices up the image and scrolls? Is there an easy way to do this with actionscript or is it simply taking slices of images and animating each one indiviually?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Help With Explaining A Technique...
Guys can you have a look at

http://bentleydownersgrove.com/Consumer/flash.html

See how in the movie the tiles come out and the pic of the bently shows up? Are they doing that with mask or what? Is that tweening masked squares that reveal the pic underneath?

Can one of you guys explain this or maybe work up an example?

Thanks

Image Technique Like This...
Anyone familiar with a tutorial / guide or .fla on the web somewhere that illustrates how to achieve this type of effect:

http://www.matthewjordansmith.com/
(click on BEATUY in the navigation then when the images scroll left to right you can click on a scrolling image to view that particular image).

Thanks for your help.

Background Technique
Whats the best technique to add a tiling background image to a full screen flash site. The methods I've tried seem to really choke the performance:

1. Create a giant image of the background on the bottom layer within flash.

2. Set the swf's wmode to transparent and add the background tile to the HTML.

There's probably something so freaking obvious that I'm no thinking of... wouldn't be the first time.

Thanks

Bug Hunt Technique
I have a little code here to find scale values and drop them into an array. It looks great to me but flashMX doesn't think so. It wont trace my finished "scaleY" array
Can anyone find my bug?, my hunting technique is failing me.
Thank you Muchley,
Tim.

Code:
highestY = [50, 40, 20, 10, 80]
frameY = [380, 50, 150, 250, 350, 400];

// Find scale factor for y
scaleY = new Array();
function findScaleY(startY, finishY, highest){
var scale = (finishY-startY)/(highest);
scaleY.push(scale);
}

for (i=0; i<=4; i++) {
findScale(frameY[i], frameY[i+1], arrayHighest[i+1]);
}
trace ("scaleY: "+scaleY);

Anybody here have any clues as to how this might have been done:
