Flash :: Small AIM Buddy Icon Image Size

Setting An AIM Buddy Icon From Flash
Hey everyone,

I'm making a site for a band that has AIM buddy icons they'd like to link to from within Flash. Normally, in HTML, you can point to it this way:

<a href="aim:BuddyIcon?src=http://www.filepath.com/buddyicon.gif">

That link will actually set the targeted animated gif as the user's buddy icon.

From Flash I tried to use this:

This is a bit random, but I figured I'd see if anyone has run into this. If not, I figure I can also just open the gif in a new HTML window and have them click on it again.

[CS3] Small File Size, Large Image Causes Laggy Performance
Hello. I have a SWF that is about 800k. In that SWF is a very basic animation, and over time an image comes in, fills the screen, and exits. I'm running at 1360x768, 30 frames per second, on a 42inch LCD with a custom box. This custom box is very minimal in power, but we've used it and boxes like it for these animations for over a year now (not this actual pc, just same build type). It has always been relatively smooth, able to play 12mb files with multiple animations taking place simultaneously. The only time it has ever lagged is this time, with one large (1360x1360 masked to 1360x768) movie clip filling the screen and then fading out.

Any tips for optimization? I'd really like to eliminate the chugging that is taking place, especially since I'm not done adding elements to this file. Thanks in advance!

Displaying A Larger/fuller Image By Hovering Over Small Image.
Hello guys n galls.

Ok its been a bit since I started learning the ins and outs of Flash. I haven't done much in terms of interactive stuff.

I co-run a site which you can find the link below, and in the past, if you check the home page, there were large 555 x 300 ish borders displayed one above the other. Now if you check the page, a mate altered it so that everything is more compact and theres only a little square containing a snippet of the original banners. Now I like this idea of compacting it all, but I was trying to think of ways to jazz it up a bit by incorporating flash into the whole thing.

I just had an idea of some how allowing the full banner images to appear in a larger screen when the cursor was to hover over the small squares which contain a little image. Would this be practical? Im thinking about the fact that there would be like 7 or so seperate topics at one time each with a small image that you could hover over. I was also thinking about possibly making it a bit more jazzy so that as the curser hovers over each topic, the outer edge glows or something like that with a sound effect.

COuld anyone help me with how i'd go about this?

I made an icon w/ ICONFACTORY software but how do I assign the icon to the Projector file?

On a MAC ya just cut and paste the icon image into the projector file info window. But how do you do this for a PC it does not work!

hi,

Can somebody please explain to me why my flash movie looks so small (about 1/4 of how it should be) in Mozilla? I published in 100% width and height, because that is how I can make it look good in IE. I've read somewhere that Mozilla may have a problem with that?
Or is it something else?

What are your tips for creating a very small, quick-loading flash site with lots of information?

I'm always amazed when I go places like disney.go.com or nike.com and within a few seconds (sometimes less) of loading, these full, interactive, image-filled, sometimes VIDEO sites pop up.

When using a lot of raster images, what is the best procedure when creating and importing to keep file size as low as possible without reducing quality.

Small Image Transforming To Large Image

How is this this done - a small image at the rear moving to the front and increasing in size.

When I looked at an fla file with this animation, the transistion was over 30 frames - each once with the size and the cordinates different.

Surely this isn't done like a cartoon animation.. increase the image size by hand in each frame etc.

Small File Size But Big On Processor

The file size is about 50K but when you run the file and check the CPU usage in the task manager its using 100%. This is to be uploaded to the web, will this be a problem?

Keeping Ad File Size Small
I'm trying to figure out how to load sequential files. I have a banner add on my home page. Right now it runs one flash file with two different ads. I'd like to be able to add more ads with out increasing the file size.

So I'm thinking that I need to load one scene, play it and then load the second. Or load one swf/movie clip play it and then the next and so on....

Does anybody know how to do that?

Font Size On Workspace Too Small
I installed Flash about a year and a half ago, at that time it was working fine. I don't recall this being a problem then but now that I have needed to use flash for a business website, I notice this problem.

I've tried the lowest and highest settings of my resolution on my windows xp control panel. The resolution setting effects the external things, and not so much the workspace font sizes.

I am not referring to where it says, File Edit Modify Help and all those on the very top. I am referring to for example the header text on top of each of the panel windows and all the font text inside the panel windows. Another example is when I right click on an object, the pull down options of that small window has its font text so small that it can't be read.

I am using a Dell 9300 laptop and none of the windows xp control panel settings seem to have any effect. Like I said, all other font text on the exteriors of Flash (like the top or the footer of the program), work absolutely fine. Also, my adobe photoshop CS panel window font sizes are perfect, This proves that it is not a computer problem. It must be a setting in Flash.

Best Way To Organize Classes To Keep Size Small
I have Flash MX 2004. I want to write some actionscript classes that i can import into my actionscript. I also want a user using my classes to be able to choose which class might get used to encode data. Is there a way that my main class (let's call it Service) can choose which file to reference for another class? For instance, if I want my Service class to be a communication channel and I want to have it encode data as XML i could choose a class called SerializeXML. If I wanted my data encoded as a PHP object, i would use SerializePHP.

Ideally using my main Service class in your Flash file would not unnecessarily include classes that do not get used. For instance if I'm developing my Flash project to speak with a PHP server, there would be no need for SerializeXML.

Is there some easy way to do this? I'm also hoping to make my class very easy to use so the users don't have to write a ton of code to choose SerializeXML vs. SerializePHP.

Using Flash CS3 a couple of questions.
1. Flash Website Templates-Size.
Is there a way to adjst the size of the Flash Template Website.. Why is Flash always smaller than Front Page Websites.
I have seen some Flash Sites that do take up the whole screen, but most of the templates I deal with are half the size.
Is size adjustable in a premade Flash Template???? If so where can you adjust the size to make it full screen?Text

2. Flash CS3 Timeline Window
Where do you adjust the length of the the Flash Timeline Window. It seems like everytime I load a Flash Doc the Timeline only shows 5-8 frames instead of 30-50 frams so I can see the whole movie...How can I adjust the length of theTimeline Window?
So it always opens and shows all of the Flash Frames not just the first 3 seconds.

3. Flash Website Template
When Editing a Flash Website Template do I only have to edit the Flash Folder for the website. do I need to edit any of the PSD files, or simple question...IF doing a Flash Site just edit the Flash Folder only? No need to edit other PSD folders?

Dynamic Text (only Display Small Font Size)
I made a copy of a movie clip that uses dynamic text from a txt document. The text is formated in the text document as html and selected in Flash to render as html text. The first instance of the text works perfectly with bold, font sizes that differ the works BUT when I made a copy of the movie clip and configured the new variable and txt filename suddenly the dynamic text display as tiny. When I take the "render and html" away in Flash then it's fine. Can anyone shed some light please...Thanks

Map Small Image To Bigger Image
I want to create a component that maps one image to another. In director i used the MAP function for it. Does anyone know if there is already a component written to simulate this director function.
in director the function looked like this:

map(targetRect, sourceRect, destinationRect)
Description
Function; positions and sizes a rectangle or point based on the relationship of a source rectangle to a target rectangle.
The relationship of the targetRect to the sourceRect governs the relationship of the result of the function to the destinationRect

It should work like this: I have two maps : one big image inside a big viewport and one small map inside a small viewport.
On the big map I have an actor. The same actor is represented on the smaller picture.
I only see a part of the bigger image. The smaller parts references the biger parts.
When I drag the big image the smaller viewport must be repositioned according to the bigger picture's viewport. When I drag the smaller viewport the bigger image must be repositioned inside it's viewport. When I click on the smaller image the smaller viewport is centered on this point

has anyone has a suggestion how I can begin progamming in actionscript 3 to have the same possibilty I had in director?

I have 30 instances of the same mc in 1 mc. how do i make it so that each of the mc's load a jpg on when you click a mc? whats the most efficiant way to do this?

Image Small When Pasting Or Importing
Hello Everyone
I'm using Flash MX Pro 2004 and I'm having difficulty getting the imported images to size correctly. I start a new project, modify document, and set my size to 402px by 117px. When I either import or paste an image from my file or graphics editor the image is only about a quarter of the size of the setting yet the file size is the same. Am I missing something here??? Thanks!

I got it. Paste Special did it. Doesn't explain the import though...

Import Image To Stage Becomes Too Small
Have this ever happened to you?

I imported an JPG image to stage. But when I look at the image on stage, it looks too small -- much smaller than the image native size. Normally, it should import at the image's native size.

So then I delete the image from stage and pull that same image from the library back onto the stage and then it is at the correct size.

What is causing the image imported to stage to become so small?

It seems simple but I can't figure out how to do it. I have a line of dynamic text that I want to include a small symbol (same height as the font) at the end. I've read about using <img src> but how can you point this to a symbol?

Small Unwanted Image Movement In .swf File
Hi. I'm not a Flash developer, so please excuse this question if it is sophomoric. Someone created a .swf file for my site that transitions multiple images in & out. It can be seen here: http://www.shadyladylighting.com.

The problem is the images seem to abruptly move/jump as they are in transition. It's almost as if they jump quickly before they change. You have to look close to see it, but it's very annoying once you see it happening.

Can anyone tell me what the problem is and how it should be fixed? Although I can't fix it I must hire someone to do so, and basically I want to know what the problem is before I pay someone to fix it.

Small Problem Involving SetProperty And Image Panning
I've been working on a simulated VR presentation for a client, and I adapted some code that pans a panoramic image left and right. The thing is that I've also integrated zoom functionality that causes my image to scale, and I needed to add the ability to pan up and down once the image was scaled up over 100%, so I added this to my drag function. Here is the code in question:

The problem is that no matter if the image is scaled or not, dragging up and down will push the image past the boundaries I want. Ideally, it should stop panning up or down once the top and bottom edges of the image are reached.

PS: the image in question is 1461 * 205 and duplicated in the SWF it's in to make it appear seemless when it is panned left and right.

[MX04] First Image Has Small Jump Distortion In Fade In/out
The FLA I'm working on was put together by someone else and the images all had to be replaced (they had been sized incorrectly). I had no problem replacing the images with new ones and when the FLA is played in Flash, it looks fine. It's only after it's published that the problem shows up.

The first image has a jump, a fold in the middle, right at the keyframes, as far as I can tell. I've read that it might be because the alpha is set to 100%, but I can't figure out how to tell or how to change it.

Can anyone guide me to an answer? Any other suggestions, while you're at it?

Dragging An Image From Library Turns Really Small On Stage
Does anyone know why when I drag any image from my library to the stage it turns really small? Like just now I dragged a 98x40 .png and it turns to 32x15 on stage.
It's really annoying when I have to check and manually fix the size of everything

Forgot to add that it's CS3 but I've seen it happen in Flash 8 too

Camera-data To A BitmapData-array - Small Image?

I capture the camera-data to a BitmapData-array. Then use php to save this into a jpeg. This worked for me previously but now it seems to save the image but there is a lot of white space around it. Can someone help me troubleshoot this. Here is a snippet of my code:

Make Big Image Small So When The Stage Is Zoomed It Still Looks Smooth.
Hi,

I put an image (JPEG) in a flash movie. When I zoom into the movie the image distorts, I mean, loses resolution. That is just but obvious. However, when I resize the flash player to make it smaller, (the movie shrinks as expected) the image distorts again, this time, resizes very ugly looking sharp instead of smooth, as if I'd have shrink it in mspaint.exe.

What I want is to embed / just put an image that is big enough so when the user zooms (at least once) or goes full screen the image zooms as well still having resolution and when the movie shrinks maintains a good quality as well.

Targeting Thumb Nail Image In Image Scroller To Full Size In Middle Of Screen

Thanks for your time....I`m basically looking for ideas on how to do the following. Most of the work is done all I need I hope is a little actionscript... ( I hope)

I`m building a scrolling picture gallery for someone where they want the thumbnail images, once clicked upon to scale very large in the middle of the screen on top of the image scroller. When the image is clicked it zooms back down to where it was clicked upon in the scolling image gallery. The site that best describes this is http://www.chris-bailey.com.

I can do the scrolling image gallery (well, thanks to other friendly flask kit people) and get the user to click the image buttons to load a movie above the scrolling gallery but its targeting the moving images in the scroller to target to the middle of the screen and stop moving and then go back down to the moving scroller.... All the images in the scroller are seperate movies that are obviously easy to scale but I need to turn off the scrolling action when they start scaling into the main movieso they remain still to view. Any ideas please? Using Flash MX.

AIM buddy icons have to be under 7kbs big and when ever I make a 48x48 flash even if it is really short I can never get it below 7kbs how can some people make Buddy Icons that are smaller size in kb/s
