Flash URL Limit From XML File - Only 127 Characters?
I want to load a link from an xml file with a long URL (about 160 characters) but the whole URL is not loading up. I found this documentation from the Macromedia site regarding the problem:
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/kn...fm?id=tn_15598
But I'm not using the character panel to produce the URL, because I'm using XML. Has anyone encountered this problem? If so, were you able to resolve it?

Too Many Characters In The Input Box Freezes My Flash File ?
My problem is a bit more complicated than the title states.
I basically created a blog in flash for my customer's website. I also created a different subsection where the client can enter his blog from whatever computer he finds himself (of course, this section is not part of the website). Once he loads his blog in the subsection, the website loads it via the txt file and the viewer just gets to read it.
PROBLEM: When the client loads too many characters in the input box (which is set to max characters "0" )the file freezes. The file uses a .php and saves as a .txt file to upload the text to the website. What can I do to fix this? Is there a special actionscipt ? Thanks in advance for any help offered?
How Can I Make Bold Characters In A .txt File Loaded In Flash?
hi, I hope this is the right place to post this, anyway, let me explain my problem.
I'm making a site and for the news section I use a .txt file, so that the news section can easily be updated at any time.
Now I was wondering: Is it possible to make underlined, bold and italic characters in the .txt file?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT
I would also like to know if it's possible to make links in the txt file.
How To Collect Special Characters Using FLASH And POST Them To A PHP File?
Hi all,
First of all (first time here, so I guess I should briefly present myself), I am new, I am not a FLASH nor a PHP pro, but I think I understand the basics. I own a basic website, and its sole purpose is to help me find interesting job opportunities. I'll graduate in biology (see, I'm not a programming wizard, but I hope some of you out there can help me out!) in August.
Now, here is my problem. I have a Flash movie containing a form. The information collected in the form is sent to a PHP file using the POST method. I want my form to be able to collect special characters such as "", "", "", "", "" (French vowels), but Flash does not POST these characters correctly in my PHP file. For example, I receive "Vérification" instead of "Vrification".
I know the problem is not coming from the PHP file, because my form used to be an HTML form called by my Flash movie. This HTML form could send the special characters correctly to my PHP file and the results were e-mail to my account. I think the actual Flash form would need to encode the special characters (or all characters) in UTF-8 format before they are sent to my PHP file, but I dont know how to do it. Could anyone help?
To put you in context, I have 8 textfields named "newfname", "newlname", "newinstitut", "newmail", "newsite", "newemail", "newsubject" and "newcomment". Because I want some information to be mandatory, I use the following script in my Flash file:
Code:
on (release){
if (newfname == "" || newlname == "" || newinstitut == "" || newsubject == "" || newcomment == ""){
stop();
} else {
getURL("php/form_en.php", "_blank", "POST");
gotoAndStop("scene 2", 64);
}
}
Please let me know if this is not descriptive enough.

Hi there
I am trying to get some text to move inside a specific area.
I have attached a gif showing the wanted rute - inside the legs of the non-conform X-letter.
Is there a way to do this - i dont have any math on the movement of the X-legs.
1) I am kind of newbie, so where do i start out - please help.
2) If i can get the rute specified for my text to move - can i then save the path for later use with other text.

Missing Characters From An XML File
Hi:
I am currently programming a flash utility. I download XML text information nodes, and display them using an scroll. The problem is that, even when I use embedded fonts, flash doesn't recognize special characters, like Spanish accents (i.e: flash read the word "elctrica" and show "eléctrica")
Any suggestion?
Thanks in advance

you'll have to change "LESSTHAN" to the propper symbol, but overall, this makes a fun dropdown menu.
Just create an empty MC wherever, and instance name it whatever, then call the function like:
Code:
dropDownList(myArray,whatever,"label",20,100,20);
you can access the selection (after it had been made) like this
Code:
trace(whatever.data);

Special Characters Do Not Appear When Loading A .txt File. Why?
I have an invisible button.
onRollover it loads a text file:
loadVariablesNum ("textfile.txt", 0);
This is cool but the problem is that the file does not display any special characters (eg. %, +, &).
If the special character is between two words - it drops the word after the special character.
I have tried to replace "&" with "&" but to no avail.
Please help...
Importing .txt File That Has Ascii Characters
(using flash mx)
i've imported a text file into a dynamic textbox from notepad (.txt) into flash. however, i can't get the "%" sign to come up(it just disappears). it just disappears for some reason when i view the .swf file on ie.

Special Characters When Saving File
i've noticed in the last few months that i'm getting some really weird characters that are being added to my file names when i'm saving as in flash. i'm on a mac and it's happening in both osx and os9.
here's an example - revise_20.fla
anyone know why this is happening?
thanks in advance for any input.
Special Characters In The Ext. File To The Scroller.
Here is where we get into the problem:
I need my accent over the letter "E", in the word carpe'. My text is coming from an external txt. file which is created on a mac, in a program known as TEXTEDIT. I can get the "E" with the accent over it in text edit, but once the text is loaded into the dynamic text, place, in my scroller. The accent comes up as a greater than or equal symbol. I tried, entering a number: u00e9, into the special characters to add in the embeded font area, but I had no luck. Is this the right track? is there another code for the special character I need to add? Is the txt. program no good? Can I do this as another file?
Anyone have any clues?
Special Characters In External Txt File
Hi,
I have a movie with scrolling text from an external txt file. The external text file contains accented letters (, , ) and quotation marks ("), but they don't show correctly in the flash movie.
I have typed the text in Dreamweaver and copied the entire text (html code included) to a text editor, and then saved it as a txt file. The code for the letter , e.g., should be è, but the Flash movie shows something else.
Can anybody help me?
Thanks a lot.

Hello, i have a xml file and i want to read it on flash but i'm portuguese so i need to be able to use some characters that are not working...

Sorting Special Characters In XML File
Hi, hoping someone has and idea of how I can solve the problem of sorting special characters such as , , etc in an actionscript array. I am working on a dictionary which has been created in XML and loads into Flash. The characters all work in textfields etc but when it comes to sorting the array alphabetically I'm hitting problems with them.
Here's some of my code:
glossary_xml = new XML();
glossary_xml.onLoad = function(success) {
if (success) {
dictionary(glossary_xml);
}
};
glossary_xml.load('glossary.xml');
var allWords:Array = new Array();
in the dictionary function I basically push the words, their translations, gender etc into the array creating a mulitdimensional array. I'm using the following to sort the array which is sorting numerically first then alphabetically and is case insensitve.
allWords.sortOn("engWord", Array.CASEINSENSITIVE);
displayArray(allWords);
My problem is that all words beginning with , etc appear at the end of the array. How can I get "" to have the same weight as "a" and "" to have the same weight as "i" etc.
Much thanks to anyone with ideas! Mogs
Special Characters In External Txt File
Same ole story..I'm trying to load an external txt file but sometimes there are some special characters in it.
We have a CMS set up to where it spits out a text file to a directory on the server and Flash is reading that text file in. Yea simple system but it works until this little bug came up.
Now I'm hoping that I don't need to explain to my client that the only way they are going to be able to use the character % is by typing %25 in the text field. Because right now that is the only way it is working.
I didn't write the CMS but is this something that would need to be fixed on the back-end? Or is there something I can do with AS?
Special Characters In Text File
I'm doing a flash site in English and Spanish. The problem is I just realized that special characters will be an issue, so I tried to put an ? (also quotes) in my xml file and it commented out all the rest of the text. Do you know what needs to be done to allow them.
Reading Special Characters From A Text File
hi,
i'm loading variables from a text file and it works fine except for some special characters which are not read correctly by flash mx. i'm using the codes from http://www.macromedia.com/support/fl...l_encoding.htm but most of the codes for special characters do not work!!
i especially need to be able to show the spanish "" and the letters with an accent "","", etc.
my textfield property "render text as html" is enabled.
does anybody have an idea?
Special Characters In Variables From Text File?
Need to include = and & characters in urls to be loaded from an external text file (one of the variable1=value&variable2=value etc. style ones)
any idea how i'd represent & and = ? is there a master list of escape characters somewhere? i can't find one.
Characters Missing From Dynamic Text File
Hi all!
I'm using a Dynamic Text box on a page, which is populated from an external .TXT file - I have noticed that if I place characters such as a plus symbol like the following + into the file, it is not shown in the page...does anyone have any idea what if anything I can do about this? I have tried adding ASCII codes for this type of character but they do not work!
Also, is it possible to use the IMG HTML tag in the .TXT file to show images - once again, I have tried this and it doesn't want to work!
[F8] Loading Math Characters From An External File
I realize there's lots of info on this around the forum and online, but I've yet to find one that works for me.. Basically I have a game that has math questions pop up between levels. The questions are being loaded dynamically from a text file and I just can't seem to find a way to view the division and multiplication signs...
I've saved my text file as UTF-8 and added this script to the first frame of my movie:
if(!System.useCodePage)
System.useCodePage = true;
still coming up blank.. Oh I also tried using different coded variations with no luck. (eg %00F7 for the division symbol)
Anyone have any insights?
Cheers!

File Reference Error-illegal Characters
i have a swf, pulled from a "swf" directory, into a parent. This child swf, at some point, allows the user to download a file from the "docs" directory using the FileReference class. However, because it is pulled from the "swf" directory, it insists on adding "swf" to the url of the file called for download....the error i get is:
2087The FileReference.download() file name contains prohibited characters.
i understand the error, and the problem- but how can i outsmart flash? I had the impression that since the parent is at root, the child would know it too is at root. Not the case....any ideas?
here is my class for the buttons that call for files:

{
this.target=this.getChildByName("bf");
this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,clickhandler);
this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT,mouseouthandler);
this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER,mouseoverhandler);
this.mc.stop()
}
private function mouseouthandler(e:Event):void
{
this.mc.gotoAndStop(1)
}
private function mouseoverhandler(e:Event):void
{

}
public function clickhandler(e:MouseEvent):void

Greek Characters From An External File In FLASH5?
I've read a lot about using Greek characters in MX, but I'm still struggling with how to do it in Flash5 - is there a way?
Greek displays fine for me in static text but not if I set it to dynamic.
I want to import data from an external file to populate the dynamic fields.
Any suggestions welcome!

Special Characters Problem While Loading Text File

I've problem loading the text file with special characters. That mean in my text content i'm having "&" symbol. In movie this text file loading and displaying up to this symbol and other contents are not displaying. I come to know that for this special characters we've to give code as "%25" in text file. Loading Special Characters From External Txt File Failes
Hi,
I try to load a text with french characters in it ( ...). I load it in html text with system font (verdana I think) but flash displays them as a small box:

How can this be solved?
Reading From Text File - Embedding Font Characters
Hi, I'm loading data from text files. I'm using the url-encoding as found on http://www.macromedia.com/support/f...rl_encoding.htm
When exporting and viewing the swf file it works for characters like &, but not for characters like , , etc. The .txt file contains html.
I've tried different fonts, such as Arial, Verdana and others but I have got the same problem with all of the used fonts. So I guess it's not font specific.
I've set Flash MX 2004 to "include these characters":
Still they don't show up.
Any idea?
URL Encoding: Reading Special Characters From A Text File
Hi.
I am trying to feed html text from a text file to a text box that contains some special characters.
The text loads fine, and most special characters work, however I cannot get greater than or less than to display properly.
If I use:
Code:
%3D
for example, an equal sign is rendered.
However, if I use:
Code:
%3C
to render a "greater than" symbol, the page does not render.
Any advice on how to fix this is appreciated.
Portguese Characters Imported Form A Text File
Hi all, I am importing text fields from a .txt file using LoadVariableNum and it is working great, except that I am importing portuguese text and the extra characters there don't get imported right. How can I fix this? Is there a better import command or is it something else?

No Sound When Trying To Play A .swa File With Japanese Characters In Its Filename In A Browser.
(AS2, Flash Professional 8)
I am unable to hear sound when I try to play a .swa file that has Japanese characters in its filename when I use the .html file created by publishing my flash movie. But if I hit Ctrl + Enter to test the movie, I can hear the sound so there seems to be a problem with the http environment. I think it is something to do with the double byte characters in the filename.
An example of a filename is: ありがとう.swa
The ActionScript that loads the file is:
mySound.loadSound(list.selectedItem.data, true);
where list.selectedItem.data contains the path to the file and the filename.
Has anyone experienced similar problems? If so, how did you fix it?
Thanks
Changing Foreign Language Characters To Normal Characters
Hi
What im doing is taking a word from an imput box and the searching an xml file for it.
I have all that working.
MY issue is the application is in french and i want to be able to strip the inputed word of special characters
like .
The reason for this i because if i have to account for the case that the user uses the special character and not use the special character (just incase) then this will eventually inflate the size of the xml im searching because ill have to put in both.
EG
User 1 searches for Abb
User 2 searches for Abbe
They both get a result
