Flash 8, Video, Compression, Sorenson Squeeze?
Here's my dilema... I run a large consumer oriented website that delivers video as .mov and wmvs. To provide a better/smoother experience for our visitors, we're considering the use of flash to display our videos.
I'm still using flash 2004mx & was considering purchasing the sorenson squeeze suite to compress the flvs. Can someone please give me the lowdown on video in Flash 8? Is Squeeze really worth $500?!
I'm leaning towards the sorenson route because I can maintain flash 7 compatibility and have great looking video. I'm reulctant to go to flash 8 (assuming it has great video output) because about 20% are still on some form of flash 7.
What's your take on this? The help is much appreciated.

Sorenson Squeeze
Is the version of Sorenson Squeeze (Spark codec) that is included with Flash MX of a lesser quality than that which is sold separately by Sorenson?
I know that it does not contain as many features as the stand-alone version, but does it also produce video that is of lesser quality?
So far, that has been my experience. It seems kind of stupid to include a plug-in that is almost useless because the output quality is so much poorer than that produced by the $119.00 (USD) stand-alone program.

Sorenson Squeeze Help
I have a video that is 30 seconds long containing audio. When I squeeze it in Sorenson the .flv file turns out to be 30.7 seconds long when imported into my .fla. The audio stops before the video ends (no longer in sync with video). I set the Frame Rate in Sorenson at "1:1 Frames/Sec." and my .fla is set at 24/fps. Is there a solution to this problem with the audio???
I've already edited the audio by adding extra sound and have it on a seperate sound layer with the video with no sound and it works, but I would prefer to keep the audio IN the video.

Sorenson Squeeze
Hi quick question which version of SS do i need for converting movie files into FLVs. I realise this is proberly a silly question, but im looking at the site and it keeps saying flash mx and flash mx proffessional, does it mean 2004, or is there some old version for flash mx... If anyone has any epxerience with can they also suggest weather its worth getting the suite or if it right just get SS 4 for FLASH MX...

Sorenson Squeeze And Stiching
Hi,
I've tried using the stiching function of Sorenson Squeeze, it works great except I get a hiccup in the audio when the new file starts. The video loads quick and can handle a very large file, just getting an audio hiccup. Any ideas?

the supplied templates resize the swf to allow varying size of the flv movies and not sure how to do this - the rest - placement of controls is reativly easy as i just get the height and width of the smMovieClip you have to have (which the movie is put into)

Sorenson Squeeze 4.1 Metadata Problem.
I'm currently trying to find the width and height of some flv's encoded in Squeeze v4.1
They all suffer from this metadata problem. basicly this:
netSt.onMetaData = function(metadata){
trace(metadata.width+", "+metadata.height);
}
prints "480, 480", when the actual height is 320. the result is all my video is stretched into a square.
I noticed that riva flv player plays the files at the correct width and height even with the dodgy metadata, does anybody know how they do it?
Flash MX - Problem Using Sorenson Squeeze
Hi all,
I am using flash to created a cd-rom based application that may be also used via web delivery at a later date. I have 3 movies that I want to show reel. I have compressed these movies using Sorenson Squeeze into SWF's. This works fine!
I would like to load the movies as external swf's using the "loadmovie" function. The movies will load using this method, however they always appear in the top right corner of the root movie. I cannot find a way to alter the position of the loaded swf.
Normally you would use a .swf movie as a container to this, but this cannot be done here you can't access the .swf that is created using sorenson squeeze.
Anyone who has taken the time to read this.

Sorenson Squeeze Player Templates
Hello all,
I don't know much about flash...however I am trying to convert a video to flash format for use on my website and am using Squeeze for flash 4.1 from Sorenson Media.
I'm selling a DVD and want to include a snippet for my potential customers to preview the video before purchasing, but need to make the player better as the included player templates are lacking in personality.
None of them have buffering or a 'loading movie' feature at the beginning, the players all look generic and I want a custom look for the buttons and so on...On the forums there is mention of a guide to creating custom players and mentions that it's easy, but have not managed to find a copy of this guide.
Anyone here use that software? Do you know where I can download some player templates to use? Happen to have a copy of that guide I mention handy to send?
Any help or advice is appreciated.
Sorenson Squeeze Pro + Flash Preloading

i recently installed Sorenson Squeeze pro just to play around and see how well it goes with Flash...
things are very good as far as compression is concerned but whenever i use the final .swf (sorenson squeeze result) and load it as an external file (loadMovie(...)) with a preloader in Flash MX 2004 the video starts playing before the preloader ends as if it is set to stream or download progressively...
i want to use sorenson pro and not the default Spark that comes with Flash whenever you import a Video source file...
any tips....? anyone?
Sorenson Squeeze Templates In Flash ?

Looking for some help from a flash expert who is familiar with Sorenson Squeeze 4.3 Templates to design a custom movie controller template. We are encoding WMV's to SWF's with Sorenson Squeeze for this client and they would like to use a custom template other then the one s provided with Sorenson. I am by no means an expert in flash we are only a hosting company doing some batch encoding for this client.

Fast Question About Sorenson Squeeze 4.2
Hello, I just got myself Sorenson Squeeze and watched the encode tutorial and I liked it a lot. But I got a little problem, In the "Format and compression settings" I cant add anything.. its this little plus button there and when I click it nothing happens. Also in the tutorial he said there was pre made settings but I dont have any... the window is clean. So what should I do now :?:
Controlling Stitched Files From Sorenson Squeeze
I know how to pause, fast forward and rewind a normal SWF, but when using the Smart Loader file for Sorenson Squeeze 4's stitched SWF files, I no longer have access to the frames of movie (or do I?).
I want to build a custom player that lets me pause, FF and REW stitched SWF's. Is it possible when using the Smart Loader file? If so, how? Thanks.

Sorenson Squeeze, Flash, And Alpha Channels
Does anyone know if it's possible to get alpha channels/transparency to work with Sorenson Squeeze 2.02? I did some green-screen stuff in After Effects and when I export to .swf and load into flash, all is well and the background is transparent, but when I try to do the same thing with the .avi in Sorenson, the background is always there.
Can anyone help me with this?
Sorenson Squeeze 4.0 Naming Output Question
I am compressing a large number of .swf files through Squeeze.
My question is how do you get rid of the extra name that Squeeze puts at the end of the files as it renders through a watch folder.
For example:
-If I have a preset called "Med_Size"
-And use it to compress a file called "Movie_One"
-The outputed file is called "Movie_OneMedSize001"
How do I make Squeeze not put that extra stuff at the end of the file name?

Video Stitching - Why?

I've just started playing around with sorenson squeeze and am trying to find out in what situations the stitching function is applicable. (there's nothing on Sorenson's site or elsewhere about this)
Doesn't an swf with embedded video progressive download such that there isn't a significant delay with the video starting to play??
Using a broadband connection with broadband bitrate swf's (of c. 2Mb) there was no difference in the time for video to start playing whether stitched or not.
Will modem bitrate swf's start similarly quickly over a modem connection??
If so, what is the advantage of the stitching function??
(also the main stitched swf appears blank (white) until the first of the video cut up swfs starts playing - is there anyway to prevent this effect??

Sorenson Video Format (SV3?)
Hi,
A client wants to offer video downloads on their site. The user is to see a thumbnail still of the video which plays a few seconds of the clip on mouseover. Upon clicking the video, the user needs to then see a preview. The user then has the option to download a full MPEG of the entire video.
I proposed that the client needs to send the video to me in flv and MPEG4 format. I can then embed the flv into a flash movie with some basic scripting to produce the still -> animated rollover effect. I can also use this clip as the larger preview. I can use the MPEG4 only for those who want the full download.
However, the client has come back and said that they will provide the thumbnail in flv, the preview in SV3 (Sorenson Video format) and the full file in MPEG4.
What is Sorenson Video format? Is it actually a file format? Can it be inserted into Flash movies? Can it be controlled by actions within a Flash movie? If so, I can use it instead of flv can't I?

Even though I select the quality: 100 in the Sorenson Spark compressor, the movie still looks badder than the original. And it really shouldn't.
I don't care about the size of the swf, since I'm doing this for a CD project.

Sorenson Sqeezed Video: Larger Swf On Export?
I am trying to compress videos for a CD-Rom.
I was using Premiere to do this and was getting them down significantly but the quality was compromised to the point that I think my client would not be happy.
So, I downloaded Sorenson squeeze and compressed the file and it went down to 2MB!! Which I was thrilled with. I brought it into Flash and set the quality at 95%, separated the audio and video (like I had done before I downloaded Sorenson) and the file is 10MB when I export it. I don't get it.
I've been in the forums and checked some stuff out...like I used the Cinepak codec for a test on the original file and it was still bigger on export. I tried the Sorenson codec, as well and got the same result.
I am totally frustrated. It wasn't doing this brofre...Flash always compressed the files with video to something smaller than the original.
What am I doing wrong? There is this wonderful software that is compressing my video files (Sorenson), which I thought was an answer to my prayers...and then the result is a larger swf on export? What gives?
Video Component And Squeeze Movies

i downloaded the following video component:

when i use this component with movieclips (quicktimes etc) that were directly imported into flash and exist on the stage when exporting my swf, it works fine.
now that i want to have SOUND in my imported quicktime, too - i use "Sorenson Squeeze" to create swf files from quicktime movies.
I then load the external movieclip into a "named" clip in my main swf and want to control it again with that video component.
The only problem i have is - no matter if I attach the component or put it onto the stage when exporting, i cannot assign the instance name of the video to the component.
Does anyone have some experience with using squeeze movies AND this video component ??

Stitching Flash Videos
I'm curious to know how to create a final edited cut of multiple media clips together once their ingested and Flash encoded onto a server and then save it as a single (Flash H.264) file. I'm trying to recreate something like Adobe Premiere Express or JumpCut.com functionality for a project. Thanks in advance to anyone replying.
Converting A PPT Into MOV (via Flash And Stitching SWFs) [renamed]
ok, so this may not prove to be the "challenge" you were hoping for, but i figured with a headline like that who could resist?
here's the situation...
a client has come to us with a powerpoint presentation that they ultimately need to turn into a quicktime movie file.
so far, we've used articulate (a plug-in for powerpoint) to turn the presentation into a .swf file....or, more accurately, many .swf files. apparently it turns each slide within PPT into an individual .swf file when exporting.
the next logical step would be to import these .swf files into Flash and export as an .mov file. here's where i could use some advice. first off, when i tried importing one of the .swf's into Flash, it essentially dissected all of the elements, placed a bunch of symbols/bmp's into the library, and just scattered all of these items onto the stage. obviously not the desired result, since i'm ultimately going to be working with hundreds of individual .swf files and don't want to be faced with having to reorganize everything on the stage before exporting.
here are my questions...
1) is there a way to import a .swf into Flash while keeping all of the elements in tact so that if i have, say, 100 .swf's, i can just line them up in the timeline one after another?
2) is there a way to streamline this so that i can quickly and easily update this file in the future with all new .swf files, or would i basically be starting from scratch each time? (i forgot to mention that the client will have a new .ppt file for us each month. yay.)
3) is there another way that anyone can think of that i'm possibly overlooking?
a few things to take into account...
1) each .swf that is being imported into Flash will consist of multiple frames, depending on how long each slide was within powerpoint
2) this is never going to live on the web, so don't even consider filesize or load time
we're trying to let this client know something asap, so anyone that can offer up some advice would be graciously appreciated.

Sorenson Question
Is there a limit to the size of file Sorenson can handle? I'm importing a 65mb mpg, it eventually encodes and displays the editing suite, but when ANY of the control buttons are pressed it runs the entire movie over and over. Any ideas?
Sound In Sorenson
i finally got myself a copy of sorenson squeeze 4.1 for flashmx.
boy is it sweet.
i am having a bit of a problem with the sound though. pretty much i am just compressing talking heads, which look and sound fine in their original format (.mov)
i squeeze them and the images look fine but the audio becomes very tinny and the people sound like they are lisping.
this is weird because when squeezing i have "uncompressed sound" applied to the vids.
anyone know what the dealio is?
FLV: Sorenson Metadata Bug
Hi,
Some years ago, we encoded a couple of .flv's with the Sorenson pack. Unfortunately, the Sorenson pack contained one major bug, being that the injected metadata got screwed up: the width and height properties would both be set to the value of width, resulting in a square flv.
As most flv players - including mine - rely on the metadata to scale the video, this is a big one. I heard of a workaround that doesn't use metadata, but I didn't find any satisfying results.
Anyone have any experience with these kind of situations?

Flash 6 Movies Made In Sorenson
I made some movies in Sorenson Squeeze and they only play in flash 6 player. Thats cool, my problem is im using a viewer-type swf to load the movies in it so i can perform a version check b4 i play the movies. After they start they don't stop looping. Is there any way to get a loaded movie from stop looping. I can't edit the swf's because i didn't make them. Any suggestions or help will be appreciated.
NEWBIE FLASH/SORENSON 101 Queries
Can anyone help a newbie?
I'm a videographer by hobby, who's been roped into to an interview by a client. Thats fine I have a 85secs talking head video DV PAL, in Final Cut (sorry adobe, I went mac, before you returned to the platform) which I'm being asked to convert to a single swf file of no more than 2Mb, be no larger than 300x250, no smaller 250x200, no less than 96Kbps audio, it must include play stop pause and preferably volume controls. Now I'm struggling with the file size, but also, the point of the post, I end up with 2 files an swf and flv file, how do you embed them into one swf file in Sorenson Squeeze, I can see no clue anywhere on or in Sorenson, player controls? And how do you constrain the on screen file when you drop it on a web page, they open typically blocky full screen.
If anyone could help would be appreciated, and if anyone could recommend any video and audio bit rates setting as well, you'd make one confused camera man very happy...

Is there any way to use the Squeeze transition so that it does both the horizontal and vertical squeeze at the same time?
The way that the syntax is written, you have to pick one or the other.
Squeeze Speeds
I am having time issues. I recently upped the quality of my videos during the squeeze process (using Sorensam), but now my file sizes are so large that it's taking hours (literally) for tmy flash videos to upload. The Flash size on one video, for example, is 500m bytes. It's taking forever to upload. Is there any way to speed up this process without losing quality on my videos?

Flv Out Of Squeeze With Cue Points
I am trying to export my flv files from squeeze 5 with cue points (markers in squeeze). i set the markers up, and they seem to be there.
then when i bring the flv file into my flvPlayer in flash (AS2) the cue points are not there. i cannot figure out what i am doing wrong. i have made flv files in the video encoder with cue points and they work just fine....but squeeze compresses much better. does anyone have any ideas?

Loading Sorenson Swf Videos Into Mc Then Using Play/pause Buttons
Ok here's the deal. I have a timline with play and pause buttons they use the following code:
videomc.videomc2.play() or videomc.videomc2.stop()
This would normally work, but the swf I'm loading into the mc videomc2 is a shell swf used to play the stiched swfs. Help! Any ideas????
Using .swf Files Created In Squeeze?

i am a little confused. I have a .swf file, that is loading an external .swf into a target MC. The external swf is a video created in sorenson squeeze. I am wondering how I can talk to the timeline of that .swf
In the past I have made my external .swf video files using
Flash MX, and so I have actually put my video controller, or
stop, play, forward, back buttons, inside that .fla file, so the resulting exported .swf (the one to be loaded) has its own controls etc.
(is this making any sense) However I am now switching to creating the .swf video file in Squeeze, (or Flix I am just testing demos to see wat works best at the momment),
and cant figure out how i get things like a video controller to work on this loaded .swf file? (Since now the controller or play/back buttons have to be applied to the loaded .swf, from the main host .swf timeline.
Have been using the video contoller kindly provided at http://www.wildform.com/tutorials/muzak/ by muzak.

Sorensen Squeeze 4.0 For Flash MX
I have this software for trying to convert mp3 down to smaller files and other stuff. Well i notice that i can convert my mp3 files down to .swf files which ONE OF THE THINGS I EXACTLY NEED... the only thing i notice is that i can convert the orginally mp3 down to a smaller size but when i try to take a mp3 i convert down to lets say 56kbs and then try to convert it to .swf the program gives some sort of error. Can anyone tell me is there a setting i need to switch in the software.
