Xml HELP With Falsh 5
I could use some help.

just trying to get the
swf file to accept anything that the xml file has changed in it.

basic example is

<world>
<earth radius="10">moon</earth>
<earth radius="90">sun</earth>
</world>

if I change the radius in the xml I want it to show in the swf file circle gets bigger or smaller.

the xml file loads right but I cant get it to
update the swf file.

I have a problem, my boss wants me to produce a movie that will randomly select 20 questions out of 100 (no duplicates)... is this possible on flash 4?

I am trying to figure out the best way to create a flash website containing a bunch of images- kind of like a gallery.

There will be one page with buttons and a bit of animation and when you click on a button it takes you to another section of images. and another button to another set. and so on....

1. Is it best to have all of the pages in one file as scenes (really big file) or best to have separate flash files that are linked with buttons. - and if so- how o you link the different fla files or swfs?

2. I would like the page to open in the center of the computer screen and is it possible to force a fixed size to this window?

3. Should I use PHP to control my database of images- it takes forever to download the files on dial up browsers. I don't know much about it but someone suggested it to me.

4. is there a minumum FLA or SWF size that I should adhere to? my current file is about 7 MB with many diff. scenes. I have not tested it on the the web yet but i am very afraid of it wokring slowly and taking forever for the images to download.

I welcome and appreciate any suggstions.

such as:-
formatting in columns?
,importing text alreay formatted in columns?
,underlining text? or selected words

The changing of space between lines is an archiac method
without much control.
the apparent lack of formatting etc is a PIA

Scrollbars With Falsh

I'm developing a website with Macromedia Flash MX and have seen website where part of the page scrolls and the rest remains static.

What I want to do is have a vertical scrollbar down the side, which scrolls a section of the page (a bit like an iframe with HTML).

I have a web page with a menu in flash, if I click on the fift element, an arrow appear at the right of the element.
When you click you get Url on a new html page. but I need to keep the arrow at the right. i I reload an other page, flash resest at the begin. How can I make flash going the same frame as previous page html without using multiple swf,

If you click "george" you are on frame 60 so on george.html, flash must start at frame 60...

I want to create a movie that will repeat the first fla file in a loop but want to keep the 2nd fla file run once only....(I cannot import the swf, as that does not work)

BEWARE Falsh Player 7
Well.
I have lost it now!!!

Just linked to a site which requires player 7. So I say yes to download plugin (to update version 6.**).

Then WAM I get told I will need to reboot my system for it to take effect!!!!

This is the final nail in the coffin for MX (2004) for me. Whats the point. We spend much thought and time to minimize the impact of download speed using all sorts of preloaders ... knowing that visitors to our sites will not wait very long before departing.

How many visitors are going to reboot there system as they surf the web!!!! Maybe .00000 nothing percent.

This is on Windows XP platform. So there are a LOT of people out there that will be greated with this!!! Whats the point of MX (2004)
and AS 2, which I assume only run if played in the version 7 player.

So for those publishing for player 7 ... now you know why no one is hitting on your site!!!!

Recording Falsh Movies.
Hi all,

I want to convert a Flash movie to an AVI, or QuickTime file. The Flash movie contains individual movie clips with ActionScripts within them.

The only way of playing the movie so that the ActioScripts run is using Flash player either within a browser, or as a standalone file. Either way, Flash is making use of ActiveX components to run.

So, is there any way of recording the movie as it runs? Ultimately I want the Flash file converted for use on a DVD without Flash player.

I'm on WinXP using MX2004pro.

Optomization From Illustrator To Falsh
hi all...i have been asked to do some banner ads. The import from illustrator is not the problem, but that this banner needs to be less than 30kbs. Closest i can get is 48. Any ideas? i opted to import diffrent layers as gif, as it was the smallest i could optomize the different layers/images.....i tried to do an export as swf, but then i was loosing some of the other advantages of the original AI file. So, is it my optimization choice, or are some things just not possible?

Falsh Runnig Badly
Once ive opened some files inside flash cs3 everything runs fine but then as I use it, switching between different files and running the fla , flash starts to run badly, when I switch between files or run a file it now takes a couple of seconds to change or update and becomes annoying when working with multiple files.
If I close and reopen all of the files then it runs fine for a while.
Does anyone know what the problem is?

Create Txt File From Falsh
Can we create a txt file from the data inputs in flash.

I am using some variables in swf called form an external txt file. Can we by any chance call the variable values...update the vlaues... in flash and save them in that particular txt file (overwritte the exisiting one)

Falsh Navigation Problem
Hi

Im doing a flash site and am having problems with the navigation. There is an initial animation when the 4 links fade into view (the links are buttons in flash) then when each one is clicked it brings up a different section of the site. However when clicking around the links there are certain times when the initial animation repeats itself, which is not supposed to happen.

Having Troubles Solving A Falsh Problem
Here is the scenario:

I am creating a mock simulation of a program in flash. Ideally the program will do a whole lot more, but right now I am just concentrating on setting up a simulation/demo. My problem is that the program will pull from a database and present the information into flash. But in the demo, I want it to be done with Flash only! So this makes things a little more difficult.

I can't seem to find a way to get tables into flash. Is there a way to import HTML tables into Flash? Lets say a textarea that would present the information in tables and allow scrolling ability. Is there a way to pull data from a text document through XML or another means to simulate the data being pulled from a database. Or do I need a program like Access or something to do that?

Mainly, I am having troubles putting data into the flash program easily without having to create every bar on the table to make it look like a table imported.

Getting A Falsh Piece To Work On Outlook?
Hi folks.. its been awhile since needing your help....

I am currently designing some flassh promotions for the company i work for. instead of creating a web page with the animations attached, and then sending, via email a link to that page, I would like to attach the flash animation to the email itself and have it play on the email page. All making sense so far?

I have been told that this is possible, but i may have to save the animation as an animated gif. and place it into a dreamweaver page and then attach that to outlook with some script. Hmmmm!

I also have been told that not all recipients will be able to view the flash promtions as they may have some sort of html blocker on. In which case i could create a link to a web page with animation on. lol exactly what i do not want to do!

Does anyone know how i should go about doing this or know where i could find the script to attach to the Dreamweaver Html file.

[F8] Can't Visualize A Website Built In Falsh
Hello,

I am a prenewbie! I have created many "pages" for a website in fireworks and have been told that since it is so "image heavy" it will be best suited for flash production. As an example, my pages are 100% images of rooms with links, rollovers, hotspots etc., and a screen sized animation that I want to play immediately when someone clicks to go to another room. In fact, I want it to be playing as the other room opens (right over the top of the new room) There are no templates used in this at all.

I have several video tutorials for flash but I can't seem to wrap my mind around the basic concept of how a "static" picture fits in to a program to make movies. My mind totally shuts down and then I can't absorb anything about making the movies and I don't continue.

Would it be a reasonable assumption to think that I should learn how to create fla files from my pngs first and then concentrate on how the movie part fits in with everything? In the future I do want to be able to pan from one room to another (like a walk thru), and add an avatar, and eventually go 3D; so I do understand that flash is the appropriate forum.

Should I actually be creating fla files with my multilayered pngs, or use an optimized/sliced jpeg? Perhaps this is what I should concentrate on first? My largest page is 756 X 3450.

Obviously I need help. I am great at dreaming this up but I am not left brained at all. What I do have is an enormous amount of determination and time to learn this if I can just get a conceptual grip on how this would be implemented.

I would sincerely appreciate any and all recommendations as to how I ought to proceed. Please pretend you are explaining how to drive an 18 wheeler to an 8 year old. In other words, the bigger picture, not the mechanics of it - yet!

Falsh Video Settings And Tools?
Hey all you Flashers;)

We are an educational products company and are about to begin posting Flash
video clips. We have started with a QT/DV file run through Flash 8 encoder
set to medium quality at 500 width. Looks very good off our internal network
but we wonder what settings give the best results between quality, viewing
size and download time/performance etc. It will be part of a commercial web
site and the current thinking is that the video would open up in another
window. This of course may pose problems if people have pop up blockers on
but it allows the web page to have more text if the video isn't embedded
Any thoughts on or resources for these issues?

Also...at this point, we are running the video into Flash encoder to
generate
an flv, then importing the flv into flash, adding a controller, then
publishing that composition. Is there a program that can create the
necessary files (html,swf,flv) in one batchable process/step? (Seems like a
lot of steps to simply compress and have a playback controller.)

And lastly, does anyone know if there is a plug-in for Vegas NLE to export a
Flash video?

Print Button - Captivate Swf Within Falsh Swf
Hi I have a nice problem and I hope someone might have an answer for me.

I am making an interactive tool book. The design, backgrounds, button etc are all in flash. I have also done a quiz in captivate which has a bank of 50 questions but only 20 random ones appear each time you do the quiz.

As you cannot import a random quiz captivate file into flash I have made a movie clip titled container that the captivate quiz swf. file loads into. This all works without a problem. However I have to make a print button also in flash so the user can print their result page (the result page is apart of the captivate file).

I have tried every print Action script I can think of; however, none of them print the results. The page prints with all the flash created objects (background, buttons etc) but it will not print the end results page that appears in the movie clip titled: container, which is located in the middle of the flash stage.

Although if I click print in the flash player file menu it does......

Can anyone help me or have I confused you all??

i'm just wondering.... can we control flash using gamepad/joystick. if yes, HOW?

this is because it's remind me of my creative cobra gamepad that came with this driver for windows 98. u can assign keys on the keyboard for any game. for example u assign key F for forward and then u assign this F key to "A" button on the game pad for example. when i press the "A" button on the game pad, it's like i'm pressing the F button on the keyboard... any clues?

Active X Alert On Falsh Email
I'm trying to send seasonal greetings in the form of a simple animated Flash movie. I've placed the swf in a table, and copied the body source into Outlook Express via the 'View', 'Source Edit' tab.

The problem is, it does n't work on all PC's, and pops up with the following error:

'Your current security settings prohibit running Active X controls on this page. As a result, the page may not be displayed correctly'

If the Internet Security Zone is set to 'Less secure but more functional', it works fine. The trouble is, this is not the default setting.

Why does it see a Flash movie as a possible security threat, and how do the funny emails you can send to your friends get past?

(Falsh 8) Action Scripting, Sliding Portfolio
Hi

This is my first post so please forgive me if i break any ettiquette rules...

Im trying to make a sliding portfolio, one where as i move the mouse along a bar, the portfolio moves in the direction im moving the mouse. Ideally i would like the sliding image to speed up the further along the bar they move.... but just getting it moving for now would be a start.

Could someone point me in the right direction please...

Am i supposed to post what i have already done?

This website has been really useful to me for a while now, and i have used a few of the bits of code in the past, i just cant seem to find anything on here about this.

Multitenant Web Based Application With Falsh Front End
Hello,
I am new to flash, and I need some advice.

I am in charge of designing the functionality and front end appearance of a  Management Software (POS, Booking, Inventory, reports...) supposed to support multiple languages...and I though... well It could be really cool to build it in Flash!

I am not sure how difficult it would be though ?
Usually I will build the mockup of the application in HTML..and then the programmers build the application based on it.

The application is meant to be a "software as a service"/"On demand software"  solution. and the database will have a multitenant model.

The back end will be built in java and maybe use SQL for the database.

Do you think this will be something feasible to do?

If, yes, do you think I can build the appearance first and then a developer will be able to use the mockup to tight it up with the data base?

I would really appreciate any advice or guidance on where to find more information on this subject.
