Call Quicktimes Into .swf's?
I'm creating a portfolio and want to use pop up windows to exhibit larger size print examples and play quicktime movies.

I understand how to create a pop up with an .swf for print
.
I'm trying to figure out how a small quicktime movie could be called into the .swf .

any help or pointers could help cure aids someday

Quicktimes In Projectors
Quicktimes in Projectors

I am in great need of some help.
I was under the illusion that in MX it was possible to play quicktimes through a Projector. I do not want to embed the qiucktime as I need the .mov to be accessible from out side of the projector, so if I choose link and set the path I can see the .mov in flash program but when exported there is nothing there. Does any one know if I can play a quicktime through a MX Projector and if so how.

hi roge ere 1st timer and was wonderin if any of u can sort my degree out by giving me some advise

Im on flash 5 and im importing quicktime movies onto my timeline with existing flash animations on. The problem i have is being able to export my movie and see and hear the quicktimes because right now the only way i can see them is playing the animation on the timeline.

That is it and i would be soo greatfull if anyone could lend a braincell to assist

Compressing Quicktimes For Web
Hi

I have several quicktime movies that i need to include in my flash site but they are massive in size. I have already used sorenson compression but they are still too big.

One of them is over 100mb in size and its only a minute in length.

Has any else come across the same problem and knows how to compress movies so they are viewable on the web.

I'm want to get them down to atleast 10 mb.

Any advice would be very welcome.

Hey all,

I'm an after effects bod tentatively taking my first steps in FlashMX.

I'm updating my online portfolio and trying to add quicktime movies to the site.

I've got a couple opening in pop-up windows, but I want them to play within the Flash interface.

There are quite a few quicktimes and I'm concerned about making the initial load too big, so I want to load each movie as it is selected.

I'm kinda getting my head around the fact that I can't have linked quicktimes without publishing the whole thing in quicktime, so I guess embedding is the way to go.

Some of the movies are pretty long, and I don't want to add all those frames to my main timeline, I want the movie to play in a single frame.

It would be nice if the movie would stream as its loading, and if I could build a simple control panel.

So my questions are...

1) How do I load each movie as it is selected?

2) How do I play the movie in a single frame in the timeline?

3) How do I build an interface to control the movie?

Any pearls of wisdom or pointers to other resources would be rewarded with mucho good karma.

i am trying to put some quicktimes on my all flash 5 site. i understand you have to embed them into you html, but i have no idea what this means, or how to do this. any help would be great thanks.

Anyone Know How To Load External Quicktimes Into A .swf?
I am using Flash MX, and I ve got one button on my timeline. I want this button (when clicked) to load a Quicktime movie, located in the same root folder, into this movie clip in my swf movie. I ve tired using _root.loadMovie, but noting seems to get that Quicktime into my .swf movie....please, does anyone have some advice?

hey guys, im a cel animator who would very much like to showcase my cel animation on my flash site. im attempting to do it at www.creativejuggernauts.com
on the animation page. as you can see, it takes a while to load, and the quality is not the best, and im forced to us the fps rate that my flash movie is playing at. what id like to know, is whats the best way to display a quicktime in a flash site like mine? id like maximum quality even if it will take a while to download. any ideas?

Problem Publishing Quicktimes

I have links to Quicktime movies on my webpage. They work on my desktop, but once they are online, I get an Explorer message saying 'page not available'. The links I have to swf files open up in Explorer just fine. I should also mention I am having some IE problems due to some @#@%$&!!! spyware DSO Exploit thing, so maybe it's related to that?

1. it doesn't look like there is a string replace function in activescript mx. what's the best way to replace character(s) in string? for example, replace "
" with "RETURN".

2. i have an input text field and i would like to know if it's possible to add a bold button so that user can turn any selection text in this text field to bold format. i'll need to able to read the original format (HTML) from actionscript.

Can't Make Quicktimes From Flash :( :(
Maybe could you help?

I'm using flash 8 and have been making quicktime movies in the past.

But in the last 2 days when i try to make a quicktime it starts to publish then says:

"An error occurred because a required quicktime component could not be found"

I'm publishing flash player 5 and have quicktime 7 installed.. any suggestions what i can do?

i tried deinstalling my quicktime and flash 8 and reinstalling them.

Flash W/ Embedded Quicktimes Ripping
Hey guys, im working on video for a client with a vendor that does lots of flash and we're having a problem with movies when they play back on a PC. this is going to be used from a data DVD that people will put in their PCs or macs, although the problem with the video seems to be PC only. the quicktime videos (rendered at 1280x720 24p) have horizontal rips that occur in strange places when the flash app is playing back. heres and example

Anyone Know How 2get Quicktimes With Sound From Flash Pls?
I'm using flash 8 and need to get a quicktime movie with audio but keep getting silent movies...

When i export as swf it has sound.

In Export, I went into the flash panel and disabled audio stream and audio event, and left the two boxes "override sound settings" and "export device sounds" unchecked.

In the Quicktime panel i tried by both exporting with the Streaming Sound: Use Quicktime Compression OFF and ON but no sound in either cases.

Suggestions/solutions would very very very very very very much appreciated..

Beginner Trying To Open New Windows To Show QuickTimes
Hi. I'm sort of new at this. I'm making a portfolio site for myself and I'm trying to make some buttons that will open up new windows to show some QuickTime movies. My code is:

on (release) {

}

When I click the button a new window opens but instead of a movie I get a broken Quicktime logo. When I click on it I get an error message that says, "The plugin was found, but an error in the plugin occurred." The quicktimes are between 4 and 14MB and were rendered in Adobe AfterEffects with a Sorenson codec for compression (if that makes a difference).
I used the same code once on a similar portfolio CD with much larger quicktimes and it brought the clips up just fine. I'm on a different computer this time so, could this be a memory issue or some kind of compatability problem that might not even have to do with Flash, or is my code wrong? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Outputting Dynamically Created Animation To Quicktimes
I've found that I can sometimes export dynamically created animation (that is, animation created entirely with ActionScript code) as a quicktime movie so that I have it as final, rendered images. But usually, unless the animation is pretty simple, the export operation hangs or gives an error message that it has run out of memory. Is there a way to coax this export along?
Also, I would like to be able to export as a series of .jpgs, or .gifs or .pngs, but those images always seem to render as blank. Is there a way to fix this?

Playing Streaming Video From Darwin Streaming Server In Flash Player
I understand that Flash player & FMS support RTMP and not RTSP. However I'd like to know how can I receive the video stream encoded in H.264 from a Darwin Streaming Server and play it in Flash Player 9? Darwin Streaming Server uses RTP/RTSP for streaming. How To Limit Streaming Bandwith Using Flash Media Streaming Server

We have recently designed our audio streaming player (designed in Flash) to stream mp3 content using FMS rather than progressive download. Our goal was to reduce the waste of bandwidth which occurs with progressive download - in cases where the player loads the song and only a few seconds are heard, though the entire song file is downloaded to the client computer which wastes bandwidth. We thought using FMS and streaming the mp3s using rtmp:// protocol would reduce our bandwidth usage.

However this has not happened. Our bandwidth is slightly lower but not significantly so. Seems like FMS is also downloading the entire song even though a listener maybe only a few seconds from the beginning of the song. The bandwidth charts are essentially the same as compared with progressive download which was simply using http:// with the mp3 content on a web server.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how we can make changes to FMS in a config file or console where we can set the streaming server to only download a few seconds beyond where the player is listening? It just seems like we are at no advantage with FMS in terms of decrease in bandwidth which was our major reason to go forth with this technology.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Streaming Music Files When You Don't Have A Streaming Server
Hello all,

(Sigh) I'm sure this is only the 25th time this has been asked this month but...what's the best way to serve music files in Flash 6 when you don't have a streaming server?

I've got a nice little music player built...four track buttons, stop, play, pause, resume, volume control, track artists/names. The problem is it's attached to one file that takes some time to load right now. Is there a better way to serve them for faster download to the user without a streaming server?

Is bandwidth detection and bitrate adjustment possible with Flash Media Streaming Server 3? I know the streaming edition doesn't support custom application deployment, so does this mean flexible bitrate streaming is not possible?

Any one have any ideas why my streaming audio wont play? I trying to stream audio .mp3's from a streaming server. This way it is not a progressive download and cache.

But I can not seem to get the audio to play through my audio player. any thoughts? Or maybe someone can point me in the right direction?

Looping Streaming A Streaming MP3 Song
Can anyone tell me why when my streaming mp3 song isn't looping? It works fine on my PC but when I upload it to the server, the song plays once then stops.

I initially didnt have the check for 'soundcomplete', I presumed it would loop again by using the 'start(0,999). This didnt work so I did a check and told it to load the sound again and play, this doesn't work either :-(

Does anyone know what's going on with this?

Is it possible to stream mp3 files from mms url's like this? mms://example.streamsvr.com/example.mp3

It throws an error when i try the way i use to load mp3 files (it works with other mp3s):

Streaming Mp3 Without Streaming Server
Hi all

I am wanting to stream an mp3 using the netstream object so that I can trigger a switch in javascript when the mp3 has finished playing.

When the page loads the mp3 is initially set to play and when the user selects an option from a drop down menu the music continues to play this is achieved through a js switch,  However when it has stopped playing I want flash to set the switch to false so that when a user selects another option the mp3 is restarted.

I know I can achieve the above using FSCommand to communicate with flash however I cant seem to get the music to play using the netstream object and I can't find anything on the web.

Can you stream MP3 without having a streaming server?  Is there a better way of doing this?  If I add sound using behaviours can I get streamed data information from this?

Please I Need Your Help, Its Not Streaming

I have a problem and I can’t figure it out by myself.

I made a homepage which starts with a little flash movie, so far no problem.
Then you get to a menu with frames, which I made with HTML.
In the left frame (the menu) you can choose the link diashow.
This is a new swf file I made to project some jpg pictures.

If you press the link the picture-show will be loaded in te right frame.

No problem you think, but the swf-file is not streaming.
Because of this I tried to publish the .fla as an html file and then it works perfectly, its nicely streaming.
But if I want to load the big swf file in the frame it is not streaming, it only starts when
the whole file is loaded.

This is how I imported the swf file into the html menu, I think this must be the problem:

<p><a href="Movie2.swf" target=q1><span style='color:yellow'>Diashow</span></a></p>

Please help me I tried for a couple days but I can’t get it right.

If you want to see the problem then go to my homepage, wait untill the menu is displayed, then press diashow.
You will see that the downloading starts, but the movie only starts when the downloading is fully completed.

Just wondering how I can have a .swf which has an .avi embeded into it stream into a parent .swf. The issue is that I've got to be able to start the video playing as soon as possible so that it doesn't jump and or stop.

Any clues? I know there is a way to do it, I just don't know that way!

great breakthrough last night, made a stream controller (ala windows media or Real) for my common library- try it out on a small file and then on a huge file on the 22nd and 23rd on my homepage if you like. The 23rd is the fourth of July video, mildly entertaining.

It meant to stream quite big files (1/2/4 MB).

and a very splendig evening to you all. When I use the

mySong.loadSound(track1,false);

and then

mySong1.start(0,2);

all is nice and dandy as long as I run it at home on my machine, as soon as I upload it though, the s*** hits the fan. well, it ain't all that grave but anyhow. Nothing happens, the sound won't start playing. The reason for not wanting to stream is, the externally loaded mp3s are loops so if I stream them there is a splitsecond of waitingtime between each song, and I don't want that...

rather simple question.. can the flash player be told to stop downloading a jpg (using the loadMovie() method) before its finnished downloading? I remember flash running into problems when this sort of thing was done. Are these bugs fixed now?

Basically, i want the player to stop downloading the jpg if the file is larger than 10k. It's for a forum where users can specify a url for a jpg for thier profile. Are there any other things that need to be taken into consideration, apart from file size, while alowing users to do this kind of thing?

Another option would be to create my own character pictures and then let the user select one. The selection would then be stored as a number in the DB.

oh, and another thing.. NS7 supports transparent windowless mode.. at long last

yes, i´d tried but it´s still to big for a website,
you have to wait to much to download the film,
that´s why I thought of divide it into four different loading steps,
so you can see part 1 while part 2 is loading.

the only video format that could be usefull is the real player one,
but you need the real player installed in your computer.

it would be nice to have the possibility to insert the real player file into the flash proyect (.fla) and exported as .swf like we do with the .avi files, but we cant.

any other ideas?
