can i insert an animated girf in flash? how?
Gif Imports
Hello,
I tried to import a gif into my flash document. When viewing the gif in flash it looks fine. But when I view the gif in the swf movie it becomes distorted. Does anyone know how I can fix this.
Thanx.
Gif Imports
Here's the situation,
I create a smiley using photoshop pro 8. I export it as a gif, preview it in the internet brower, and the pixels are fine. I import the impage into flash, it looks fine, but when I preview it the image is screwed up (ie. the outlining pixels are off or missing). I've tried to turn off the smoothing on the gif, set it at whole x and y coordinates, and out of desperation set my jpeg quality to 100 hoping it would make some difference. Still the picture is screwed.
Anybody know why?
Also, does anyone know of good tutorials on how to make smileys, or any of that pixel art stuff so it works out. The kind of pixel art you see laying around kirupa all the time.
Thanx for the time.
Imports.
No, I don't mean the Japanese, Speed Racer kinds. Sorry ;p
Anyways, when designing a website in flash, is it better to make the different sections (Home/links/about/etc.) their own independant movie clips, and then load/import them as requested using a base/main/root clip, or keep everything in one big .swf file?
I ask because it seems like it's easier to design a site keeping everything in one place. However, if I want to add dynamic content which require updates, seperate clips seem like a good solution to prevent having to re-upload the whole site everytime a change is made.
Vector Imports.
I'm not really having a problem at the moment persay, but I just thought I'd ask a question regarding a problem that I've had for quite some time.
How is the best way to import Illustrator .eps files into flash without losing my color values? I also have this problem when opening a .eps vector file in Photoshop. I also sometimes have a problem with the image importing kind of distorted on occasion; I'll lose points from time to time. What's the best way to save vector art done in Illustrator to maintain it's quality and compatibility for imports into Flash and Photoshop? Solutions anybody?
I'm still using Flash MX, Photoshop 7.0 and Illustrator 10 --- Yeah I need to update.
I'd appreciate any help -javi

AS And Automated FLV Imports
Is there a way to add a .flv to the stage and play it with pure actionscript?None of this Window->Library and then make a new video and then drag the video to the stage. Just pure... acitionscript. this would really help because I am trying to make program that is completely automated and clicking and dragging is just not going to cut it. not to mention its for my animation class and I might get a better grade if my code is a bit more technical. Thanks in advance.
Imports Question.
Is there a place where I can find out what imports do? That is, is there like a list of imports and what they are used for?
It is a pain figuring out what imports I need for a program so I was hoping that somewhere there is a listing of imports and their definition.
Thanks
Abort .swf Imports
I have a movie clip from which I import several other MCs containing pictures into named MCs on stage. E.g.:
container1.loadMovie ( "pictureclip1.swf");
Now I'd like to know if there is a way to abort this loading.
a simple: container.loadMovie("empty.swf"); doesn't really do the jab. there is still something going ao behind the szenes... it takes a rather long time until the empty.swf appears.
as I have 9 pictures to load, aborting this is quite annoying.
Who knows help??

Problems With Bitmap Imports
Look at this interesting problem.
(Somebody help...)
I have imported a .gif in a new movie in frame 1 and i resized it. Then i exported as .swf and the quality of the image was OK.
In the same movie I have added a new blank frame. (only an empty frame!!!!). So: frame 1: a .gif, frame 2: nothing, just the frame. Then i exported/tested as .swf. The quality!? MISERABLE.
I don't know what is the problem.
Can somebody explain to me?
Loadmovie, Getbytesloaded And Swf Imports
Hi all,
This is doing my nut - hope someone can help....
My project is basically a movie controller, that has buttons on it, that gets passed whatever file is to display in the main 'pane' of the controller using <param flashvars>.
The external movie to be controlled gets loaded in using loadmovie. This external movie is on a remote server, so is streamed and therefore obviously needs some sort of preloaded to stop it halting mid-playback.
I've found a bunch of scripts on the net for movie preloaders, and preloaders in general are a piece of piss. However all those preloaders assume that you are putting the preloader into the *External* movie. Due to the projects nature, i don't have this luxury.
I need script to preload the external movie after i've done the loadmovie() that doesn't require putting the preloader into the actual movie i'm loading in.
The flashMX references tell me that a loaded movie will inherit the properties of the movie/instance that it is loaded into. Consequently, doing _root.loadedmovie.getbytestotal(); simply tells me "4" because thats the size of the loadedmovie instance. (In reality the loaded movie is about 3MB)
I've tried everything i can think of, but it just don't work.
HELP!
Surely this can be done? (it would be a huge short-coming if it couldn't)
Quicktime Movie Imports
I know there is a way to import a quicktime.mov into flash 5 but I can only seem to see the movie in action in the authoring environment in flash 5. When I test the movie or export it to swf the quicktime movie is not displayed. Can anyone shed any light on the matter?
Imports SWF Movies As A Graphic?
Morning
Hope you can help me here.
I'm messing around with a tutorial by Dave Gillem @ www.CrucialLimit.com which shows you how to do transitions from one movie to another. It has a main movie with buttons than when clicked load external movies into the main movie.
The trouble is that whenever I try to import one of my swf's into one of the link movies, it only imports 1 frame of the movie and sets the symbol as a graphic.
Any idea how I can make it see sense and let me import my movie as a whole instead of one tiny insignificant little frame thats no use to man nor beast???
Thankyou fellows.
Clean Logo Imports (EPS)
I'm kind of a newbie with some stuff....like this. I have the logo of a company that is in EPS format...CMYK. I'm using PhotoSHop 7 on a new Mac. I save the logo as a PNG so I can retain the transparent elements of the logo so I can put it over photos already in the fla. But when I place the file into flash, it is too choppy...the lines of the logo are all ugly and unsmooth. Can someone PLEASE help me! I know this is fundamental, but I NEED to know how to do it. Thanks!
Adobe Illustrator Imports
Hey all, I don't usually care for making images in Flash...so I use Adobe Illustrator...for my recent project for school I created all the images in Illustrator, then imported them to flash. All was fine the first time - but when I decided to make changes to the images, then import them again, flash in it's infinite wisdom decided to leave out parts of the image...I don't know if anyone else has come across this, but it's pissing me right off. Also, the first time I imported a certain image that had been 3D Extruded and Beveled in Illustrator, flash left out parts of that image too. Anyone else have that problem? Just try it if you have illustrator. Create a square with no border...then do the 3D Extrude and Bevel effect and import it into flash mx and see what happens.

myStyle.load("text.css");
intro_txt.styleSheet = myStyle;
intro_txt.multiline= true;

Creating And AS2.0 Class That Imports Mx.Services.*
Hello all, simple question. Can you import or extend the WebService classes....because everytime I try I get complie errors. Here is an simple example of what I want to do.
import mx.services.*
class dummyWeb{
private var myWebService:WebService;
public function dummyWeb(url:String){
myWebService = new WebService(url)
}
}
I searched on the net but all information refers to dragging either the XMLConnector Class or WebService Class to the canvas then deleting it. The only problem there is that I cannot drag anything cause I am creating a class in the ActionScript editor.
Is there any way to do this?
Thanks.

Flash App Where User Imports Images
Hi everyone,
I am making a game in flash but having a little trouble with actionscript, and I was hoping someone might know what to do.
I want to know if it is possible to import a .jpg from the local hard drive into the flash game, and if so, how can it be done?
In my game, user selects body parts and makes a character by dragging them onto a game board. I was hoping to add some more interactivity by allowing them to stick in a picture of somebody's face etc, maybe even drag it around once it is in the game.
Also, is it possible to take part of the game screen and have the user save it out as a .jpg? Or just send it right off to an email (like an e-card?)
I would so appreciate any help.
Regards
Laurie
Crossed Reference Imports: How To Solve It
Hello,
I have two classes, which depend upon eachother. Basically class PaneSpinner is a container of objects of class PaneElement, but class PaneElement has to know the details of class PaneSpinner.
In order to do this, I have to import PaneElement in PaneSpinner, and vice versa.
Unfortunetely, this leads to this error:
The name of this class, 'PaneSpinner', conflicts with the name of another class that was loaded, 'PaneSpinner'
How can I solve this issue?
Best regards.
Difficult Problem Regarding Package Imports
This is my first real website contraction and I have found it challenging and fun so far.
I want to embed this photogallery: http://www.actionscript.org/resource...ial/Page1.html I downloaded into my .fla file, it is in a package that I have added to my classpath list in publish settings but I am recieving error:
1026: Constructor functions must be instance methods.
I go publish settings -> flash -> actionscript 3 settings, then put the class to my package location.
There are quite a few nested movieclips to go through before you get to the location of where I want the photogallery to go.
Inside the publishingpage frame location there is a movieclip called publishing_mc, inside that if you click the diverse britain icon, in frame 2 click the text on the right and that should take you into another movieclip called booktext, and inside the small black box is the final movieclip imagescroller with the actionscript code:
import St_James_Website.*;
var St_James_Website:St_James_Website = new St_James_Website();
this.addChild(St_James_Website);
that seems to not do anything for me
Not only that but I fear I will have to alter the code significantly to make the photo gallery fit in my project properly.
Getting this function to work has been a huge hassle and I have spent many hours researching and reading guides, trying to tutorials but to no avail.
The site layout should look like the St_James_Website.pfd attached
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yours,
Jack Prior

How Can I Make Imports Background Transparent?
I'm trying to place an image that has a transparent background into flash. I tried importing it as .tga, and .gif but flash keeps placing a white background. How am I supposed to knock out the backgrounds on imported bitmaps? I tried breaking the image apart and deleting the white but It deletes the whole image instead?
Thanks,
Sam
Optimal Same Class:Multiple #include/imports
Just curious... I often have a situation where I am pulling in one class into different swfs that are being loaded into each other. What does this do to file size?
For instance if I say #include "myClass.as" into "a.swf" then load "b.swf" into a level in "a.swf" would including the myClass.as increase the overall file size, causing extra download time. I would hope not. and almost think it doesn't.
What do you know about this? any insights in how to best handle this.
*edited some mistakes.
Classpath Problem? Imports Of Fl Packages Not Working
the compiler cant seem to find class definitions for any of the packages under "fl".
in this example I try to use fl.controls.List, and fl.data.DataProvider, and nothing comes up.
what gives? am I not supposed to use the fl packages directly?
any help would be most appreciated. I am stuck on this.
thanks
Attach Code
package {
import fl.controls.List;
import fl.data.DataProvider;
import flash.utils.*;
import flash.display.*;
import flash.net.*;
import flash.events.*;
public class Main extends MovieClip {
trace("main top");
var dp:DataProvider = new DataProvider();
dp.addItem( { abbreviatedLabel:"NY", label:"New York" } );
dp.addItem( { abbreviatedLabel:"CA", label:"California" } );
dp.addItem( { abbreviatedLabel:"WA", label:"Washington" } );
dp.addItem( { abbreviatedLabel:"CT", label:"Connecticut" } );
dp.addItem( { abbreviatedLabel:"VT", label:"Vermont" } );
var list:List = new List();
list.setSize(40,100);
list.labelField = "abbreviatedLabel";
list.dataProvider = dp;
addChild(list);
}
}
Limited Number Of PNG Imports Retain Transparency
Anybody seen this issue before? I have 15 .png files (layer exports from Photoshop) that have been distributed to separate layers and defined as movieclips so I can perform some alpha operations, masking, etc. on them. When the 13th one is imported to stage, .png number 1 dissappears! If I import another one, .png number two dissapears as well, and so on. I am not aware of any limit to the number of stacked transparent .png's, and am running MX 2004 Pro. Known issue? I searched all over for it and couldn't find anything.
With 13 .png's on the stage, if I hide any of the layers then the bottom .png becomes visible again. help!

Flash MX: How To Create An Array So That The Random Imports Don't Repeat?
Hi,
I have a slideshow movie that attaches, (randomly),
photo MC's at 1 second intervals.
I use the following code on the first frame,
then on the second is a timer and on the fourth
is a loop back to the first.
clipNum = Math.floor((Math.random()*199)+1);
name = "img"+clipNum;
imageholder.attachMovie("img"+clipNum, name, 1);
I would like to be able to create an array or a 'shuffle'
so that none of the images repeat until they have
all been shown, (then it goes and plays from the
start again).
Can anyone please help me do this as I cannot figure
out how to programme it.
(There are 199 images all together)
Thanks for any help.
AS3 - Sound Bug - Multiple Copies Of The Sound File Plays/loads
AS3
I have a script that loads an mp3 file. Then, there is some visualization with to the music. When first loading the flash file, there is one copy of the sound. When the flash file is loaded again, there are multiple copies of the sound file being played. When I used the stop button it only stops one of the copies.
Here is the script:

How To Use A Value Of A String Variable As A Sound Class (as Linkage Name Of A Sound File)?
Hi,
I need to use the value of a string variable as a linkage name of the sound imported in the library, I have this code:
var SoundArray:Array=new Array;
SoundArray[0]="S1";
SoundArray[1]="S2";
SoundArray[2]="S3";
var MySound = new SoundArray[0];
B1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,PlaySound);
function PlaySound(event:MouseEvent) {
MySound.play(0,0);
}
where S1,S2,S3 is the name of the classes in the linkage name for the 3 sound files in the library.
I get this Error for the highlighted line of code:
TypeError: Error #1007: Instantiation attempted on a non-constructor.

Stop Sound File Early (using Sound Object)
I know I can use the play() method of the Sound object to offset the beginning of a sound. Ex:
mySound.play(2000) - plays the sound beginning at 2 seconds
Is there a way to get a sound to stop early? For example, if it is a 20-second sound, can I get it to stop at 18 seconds? Thanks!

Sound File In A MC?
Ok i d-loaded a song that's about 225 seconds long, the only way i see that is possible at the moment is to put it on the main timeline. Is it possible for me to put it in a mc so i keeps the timeline nice and clean. (Cause i wanna make an animation that's only in MC's) Thx again for your insights!
Ok, forget what i just said, because i figured it out. I have another problem though. I need to take only 140 seconds of the total 226 of the song. How do i do this? I really can't have unecessary music as it takes up alot of
space
Ok, another edit here, whenever i alter the timing of one thing coming in with the music, it alters the timing of the other thing, it is just making it impossible to sync the animations with the music, does anyone know what's goin on?
