Syncing Visual With Audio...Possible Or No?
Hello,
I was attempting to make an Intro video with Swish, but as it turned out, syncing the video with the audio was impossible, because it wouldnt appear the same on other computers. My question is, would this be the same with Flash, or would Flash videos actually appear the same on all computers, or at least better than Swish. I'm currently using Flash 5.

Syncing Audio And Visual Help Please
I am wanting to make a visual sync/effects that will do a AVS thing like winamp does. Anybody here made one before and wouldnt mind giving me some hints or where I can find a tutorial on how to do this? thanks alot
Audio Syncing
I'm working on a relatively long project where the lyrics are supposed to match the text about 3 minutes into it. The problem I'm having is that it appears to be very inconsistent between browsers and slower computers.
The music is nested on the timeline starting at frame 2. The file already has a preloader. Can anybody suggest a better solution so that it stays universally consistent?
Thanks in advance
Audio Syncing
I've been working on a little personal project of mine that involves kind of pasting frames from an animation into flash frames so that they match up with a piece of audio I imported, basically matching animated characters up to sing/move along with the audio.
It was fun to make, and I got all the timing right in flash's "test movie" app, but it was extremely frustrating once I exported it after I was done, because it never seems to stay at the same speed.
One minute, the frames will be too fast for the audio and it's all out of sync, then the next time I play it it's perfect, then the next it's perfect until a few seconds into the flash. Even when I pause the animation the audio continues to play, which may mean that the framerate is staggering a bit when it plays and that's what's causing a lack of sync.
Are there any essential tips for doing animations like these?
Anything to make the frames stay the same speed, or atleast slow down the audio to always match the way they were edited if the frames need to slow down?
Thanks!

Audio Syncing Troubles
Ok, I know all about streaming and such, I've been doing that for ages. My problem is that certain audio files will play before that say they're supposed to on the timeline. Is there any actionscript, or another method I could use to fix this? Any help is appreciated.
I already asked this question at the Newgrounds BBS, but most of the users there are 14 and do that 1337-speak thing... so not too much help there.
Problems Syncing Audio
Hi all
I am working on a little intro http://acatch22production.com/intro8.swf and having a hard time getting the machine gun to sync correct. If i set its length in the time line to the same as the dude fires the gun, it is too short on my pc and lap top. But it plays correct on my clients pc. If I set it so it plays correct for me it is too long for him. I have tried stream, event, start and stop. I am a bit frustrated.
Please help

Syncing Audio/Video
I have matched audio with my video, but unless I view it at a 200% zoom or closer, the video falls behind the audio. This even happens with an exported movie. Other than that, the audio is perfectly matched in the timeline.
Is there a reason why this is happening?
Audio Syncing Between MovieClips
Heya gang.
Im using MCs as scenes, and have an audio track that spans across several MCs. Now when I use an internal command within the MC to proceed to the next frame of it's parent, the audio makes a tiny gap. It may seem like no big deal, but Im trying to make a seamless transition and this really throws the thing out of ordeal.
Audio Syncing Problem
I'm currently having troubles with audio syncing. I recently made a switch from 12 fps to 24 fps, and now my audio keeps getting set off, it seems that if i have a streaming audio put in, (such as character voices), and then have an event sound sometime after it, the event sound will become off sync, sometimes more than 30 sec off sync, also if i have any more event sounds after the first one, they will start before the last one ended, way before the movie even reaches the frame where they are cued to start at. However, if i do not have a stream audio in, and i leave all the sounds at event, the sounds play at the right time, but they arn't synced up the way i want them to that streaming them would do. any idea how to fix this?
[-HELP-] Syncing ID3 Lyrics With Audio
This is gonna sound crazy, but I'm trying to get Flash to load the ID3 tags I want, including lyrics. If you got a chance to check out the Jukebox sample that was included with Flash 8, I'm trying to build on that to get what I want. There are three ways that I believe are possible to do this. If anyone can tell me how to do it one of these ones (or even suggest a better way) please do tell me. Here are the scenarios by order of priority:
1) Flash 8 Components (ID3 tags + synchronized lyrics)Flash loads song name, artist name, etc. and synchronized lyrics from an MP3 file's ID3 info. The lyrics move synchronously to the music playing.
2) Flash 8 Components (ID3 tags + nonsynchronized lyrics)Flash loads song name, artist name, etc. and normal lyrics from an MP3 file's ID3 info. The lyrics do not move synchronously but can be scrolled manually.
3) Flash 8 Components (ID3 tags + external lyrics)Flash loads song name, artist name, etc. and normal lyrics from an external text file. The lyrics do not move synchronously but can be scrolled manually.

Syncing Movie To Audio ...
Hi all, what it says on the tin really!!
Im trying to sync a movie to a piece of audio about a minute long. Its in sync if I play the movie (not preview!) but goes out when I export or preview.
Any ideas?
Syncing Audio With Images
Let me explain:
(Fading Images)
My Flash file is made up of images that fade in and out. (For e.g. Frame 1-100 is image 1 fading in and out. Frame 100-200 is image 02 fading in and out etc.)
(Audio)
I have created an audio track in a separate layer that is the full length of my movie. (200 frames long)
(Question)
The Flash movie starts with the audio playing. If the user doesn't want the audio (music) to play then I want them to click a toggle on/off button to stop and start the movie. The problem is, if they stop the music and restart it the audio starts from the beginning of the audio track even if they restart it half way through the movie. How can I fix this so if the music is turned on at any point in the movie the audio track will pick up at the correct point in the movie?

Syncing Audio With Video
Hi,
I was so proud that I was finally able to get voice to play along with some simple tweenings of words and images on the screen. The synchronization looks and sounds absolutely fine in the swf. (I have one long voice file on one layer and the visual stuff in other layers.)
But, when I export to a QuickTime movie all of a sudden the audio and video become more and more out of sync as the movie plays. (it's running more than two minutes with words popping on the screen and someone reading them).
Not sure it matters... But, I'm trying to get this into .mov format, so that I use the Flash CS3 video encoder to create the flv file, so that I can use the nice flvplayback controller.
Can you help? If you refer to the FAQ, I'd appreciate a link to it. I've been wandering around the Flash Kit Community and have only been able to find the FAQ about posting. Be gentle...
Also, should I be cutting the audio at reasonable breaks in the reading? Or is it okay to leave it as one longer voice piece?
Any help is appreciated. This thing is supposed to be completed by tomorrow. and it's obviously not.

I'm Clueless About Audio And Syncing
Hi, I don't know anything with regards to recording my voice and putting it into an animated short with flash.
1) Is there any preferred way to record my voice, in any specific file format?
2) Should I record everything at once, or would recording small tidbits be better?
3) Is there any other program I have to use to edit the length of the sound files if I need to edit them?
Thanks

Syncing Flash To Audio . . .
hello and thanks for reading,
I am trying to create a slide presentation, in which the slides change in time with an audio file. The presentation is close to 5 minutes long. Some funky stuff is happening(I am using Flash MX on XP Pro):
when i use a .wav file it sounds garbled, almost like a super lo-fi real player type compression. same for a 320k/s mp3. (is flash trying to do some kind of compression itself?)
when i use a 128k/s mp3 and set the sync parameter to 'event' it sounds fine, but does not stay together with the visuals. so obviously I should set the sync parameter to 'stream,' right? So when I do this it syncs up, but sounds garbled(my guess is the flash is time compressing and stretching it which is distorting the audio).
Does anybody have some advice, or even just an explanation of what's happening?
thanks, 4est.
Syncing Audio Across Scenes
I have to make a slideshow with 200 pics and an audio track. Is it possible to sync the audio (if 1 wave file is used) among the different scenes? How? Reason: I can make 10 scenes of 20 pics each. It'll be big swf but that's okay 'cause it's going on CD-ROM.
I am using 1 scene right now and different movieclips to bring in the photos externally. Not really syncing with audio, but easy solution and fast loading.
Thanks.
Syncing Audio With Actionscript
Hey everyone,
Any idea how these guys http://www.reactormovie.com/ are able to make a movie sync with audio and still control volume? I've been using the 'Stream' audio function and the only way to turn it off is 'stopAllSounds' for the current clip.
Thanks for the help!

Syncing Speech Audio With Animation?
Hello... Im just starting to experiment with flash animations, and Im having trouble timing speech and audio tracks in my cartoons. What I've been doing is recording an mp3 file with the character's lines on a seperate layer, and then doing a 'frame by frame' animation of his mouth moving on another layer. When I test the movie within Flash MX (ctrl-enter) it syncs up perfect, but when I export the file and preview it a browser, the audio plays much faster than the animations do.
Say, for example I have a cartoon made at 20fps, and an mp3 track that is 10 seconds long. I will insert the 10 sec mp3 on one layer, and on another layer, I will draw an animation of the characters mouth moving. The animation of the mouth moving is 200 frames long (20fps*10sec), and it plays out perfectly in the preview in Flash MX. But when I look at it in a browser, the audio finishes playing in the regular 10 seconds, but the animation takes 15 seconds to play, so the mouth keeps moving for 5 seconds after the audio stops. It looks dumb.
Can anybody tell me the proper way to animate a character talking? Am I on the right track, or is this just a dumb idea to begin with? heheh...
Thanks in advance-- Andrew
Flash & Audio Not Syncing Properly...
Please help!
I spliced up audio bits thinking it would work more effectively with syncing the audio clips with animated segments. Well, it winds up being a guessing game & I feel as if I'm working blind! I have to keep watching it over & over in the Flash Player to get the timing right.
Wouldn't you think that where the audio line stops, that is where you'd insert the next audio clip? Well, for some reason it doesn't want to work like that so I've been dragging audio clips so that the audio line appears overlapped to the one below (on its respective layer), even though when I play them they are not; but it's getting really frustrating and more difficult to sync up as I get further & further down the timeline.
Do you have any technical advice or the solution to this problem?
P.S. -- I then tried lining them up (as to what would seem the logical method)...where the audio line stops, I add another layer w/ the next audio clip -- and I set those audio layers to stream. Well, this worsened it by making the audio overlap itself audibly.
Please help!

[F8] Problem With Audio Syncing Up To Animation
I'm using flash to make an animated film -- no actionscripting, no game inside, no buttons or anything. I'm just using it as an animation tool.
Anyway, I've plugged in some rough sound effects for my rough animatic and every time i test the movie or export it (swf or mov) the sound effects at certain points just cease to line up with where i have put them on the timeline. I've gone back through to double check and make sure i have them lined up properly in the flash timeline and they are lined up in the right spot. I can't figure out why it continually refuses to line up properly. By the end of the animatic the sound stops a good 30 seconds beforehand because the sound plays faster than the animation does.
Can anyone help? I have everything set on individual frames set to stream (0).
Syncing Audio With Large Video?
I have a large video (720x405) that is embedded within my Flash file. I'm having trouble getting the audio to sync with it. At first I imported the video with the audio integrated into the video but that didn't work at all. Then I tried importing it in with the audio seperate. I placed the audio on the same timeline as the video and set the sound to stream. That doesn't work either... hmmmm.
Any ideas on how I could get the audio to sync with the video?
Syncing Audio To Animation In Flash 8
Hello All,
I am currently working on a project that requires me to sync dialog in a voice-over with text animations. When I view the file on my computer, everything is synced up perfectly. But on computers with a slower processing speed, there is a discrepancy between the timing.
I am using the following actionscript to start the audio in a frame script.
Code:
intro_audio = new Sound();
intro_audio.attachSound("intro");
intro_audio.start();
Is there anything I can do to ensure that the timing is standardized on any computer it is played on?
Thanks!

Syncing Audio To Flash Demo
Hi,
i am about to set up a screenshot demo in Flash with audio that is synced to the screenshots. There will also be "ambient" sound in the background, so I need to have a seamless transition from one frame to another.
RoboDemo has been recommended, but I understand from its website that each frame needs to have its own audio file. Is this suitable for my needs? Can RoboDemo be altered for a single audio file to be synced? If not, is there a better suggestion?
Thanks,

Syncing Multiple Audio Tracks
Ok, so I havn't even BEGUN creating the flash movie for this project (project 2, due tuesday ), since I want to see if anyone knows of a tutorial that I might be able to base this off of.
I'm basically going to make a limited flash emulation of James Pattens Audiopad . There will be objects on the canvas which hold an audio track on a constant loop. I am making all of the audio tracks the same BPM and length, and I want them to stay synced perfectly so that there is no trainwrecking (audio clash). The user will be able to move the objects on the canvas around to control the volume of each aspect of the song.
So, has anyone heard of this? I've seen some fun little things on the old shockwave.com that had a similar feature and kept different audio tracks in sync. I'm getting the audio done first, so that I will have tracks to use once I start testing.
Audio Syncing Issues With Flash Presentation.
Hello Everyone,
We're working on a flash presentation for a client of ours that includes a voiceover and background audio track and we have come into a snag with how the audio is syncing up with the animation.
We are using Flash 8 and the final published flash file will be played locally from a newer PC laptop connected to a Plasma TV so as of right now file size and streaming over the internet isn't a factor.
When the voiceover layer was set to "streaming" the voiceover sounds really compressed and distorted but once the audio and animation was synced up. The presentation played well (minus the sound quality) and the audio and animation stayed in sync with each other.
To make the voiceover sound better we changed the layer from "streaming" to "Start" which made the voiceover sound 10 folds better, BUT even though we went back and re synced the audio and animation together now the SWF/projector/.EXE file sometimes plays and syncs up great, other times the audio is completely off with the animation.
Has anyone ever had this problem? (from reading other posts on it seems lots of people have had similar issues with Flash when working with audio)
And any ideas on how we can fix this?
Pretty sure the syncing up issues now stems from changing the audio layer from "streaming" to "start" so if anyone has any suggestions on how we can make the audio layer sound clearer and still be set to "streaming" that would also be a great help.
Many thanks, any help is appreciated.
Syncing Audio With An Image -- At Specific Time.
Hey:
Is it possible to sync together and audio file (as it plays) with an image or anything else, based upon time? In other words, if i have a tracc playing for lets say -- 1:26.360 -- and at 1:31.027 i want and image to appear, is it possible to accomplish this?
Any suggestions and/or examples will be greatly appreaciated.
Thank you!

Matching Audio And Visual
I have an mp3 in my flash movie. When I hit enter in the stage screen to preview the timing is how I want it. When I hit ctrl + enter or ctrl + F12 the timing is off in the preview panes.
is there an accurate way to align the song and the movie so that doesn't involve guess work?
Thanks!
FLVPlayback Does Not Display Visual, Just Audio. Please Help
I'm working on a Flash Projector CDROM with around 10 FLVs. These FLVs are loaded dynamically into the SWF projector using actionscript from the CD. There are 10 buttons to load each movie into the same FLVPlayback instance.
However, when I click the button to view/load the FLV, sometimes the video does not display but the audio can be heard playing. Furthermore this is happenning erratically and on randomly. It seems to get worse as the CD has been playing for a longer period.
This sounds like an issue of Flash clogging the computer's memory. Is there a way to get around this without using a 3rd-party software like Jugglor? www.jugglor.com.

Interesting Audio Visual Sync Issue
Greetings,
I'm posting this to a few forums, hoping to get some feedback regarding a strange, consistent, and somewhat unnerving issue regarding drift between sync/streamed audio files and animation sequences on the timeline.
A colleague of mine is doing an animation project over ten minutes in length in Flash. He was reading frame numbers to create a track breakdown for exposure sheets (old school) and noticed that the sound was slowly drifting out of sync after a period of time. He sent me an email to ask whether I have noticed the same problem. We have both worked on projects using Flash as a tool for video work.
I had not noticed the problem, never starting a project from that direction, so I decided to do some tests. I created a 5 minute (300 sec.) audio sequence of 1 KHz blips at every second. I imported this file into Flash and set in on the timeline in stream mode. I then made a little dot and made a one second sequence at 24 fps and copied that sequence up to 300 seconds. After 5 minutes length over the time, the audio blip drifted away from the dot by ten frames, or .4 seconds. The audio file also ends short of the animation sequence.
I have checked this issue out adjusting different properties of the audio:
a. Sample rate ( 44.1, 22, 11)
b. Bit rate (16, 8)
c. File format ( .aif, .wav, mp3)
I have also tested using different frame rates (15, 24, 30), yet the drift appears to be constant.
I have an example of one of these tests up on my website here (http://www.csiga.com/flash/avSyncTest.zip). It's the 11k8b audio at 24fps version. It's a tiny archive (38k), but decompresses to 6 Mb.
I would be very curious if anyone could share some thoughts about this issue. It would be useful to find some way around this problem. There are many Flash based productions that migrate to video in New York where I'm based. I'm sure that the community could benefit from any insight.
Thanks.

Lip-Syncing
Hi all!
I am currently creating a few characters to add to my website with a sound clip. I want to make the characters sync with the sound to look like they are talking.
My sound clip has music in the background, so I can't just go by the squigly lines to sync my characters.
My question is - is there any way to hear the sound frame by frame, without having to keep playing the whole thing?
Thanks!

this isn't a problem or anything. i'm really more looking for advice here.
does anyone know any tips or tricks that make lip syncing a less unbearable experience? or am i really just gonna have to get used to the fact that lip syncing will always be a slow horrible annoying process...
Syncing
Hi. I'm not sure if there's a topic about this already, but...
I currently run Flash 8. When I play a scene in the workspace, all the sounds are where I want them. However, when I hit "Test Movie," the sound plays roughly five seconds before it's supposed to. I have the sound on stream, I've tried setting it to event, stop, start, and I've tried fiddling around with the export setting, to no avail. I've googled this a thousand times, and just end up with the same results in my movie. If anyone here can help, that would be great.

PS: The text above was taken directly from my topic on the Adobe support forums, which got no response (Normally I would wait, but I can't actually make my animation until I fix this.)

Sound Not Syncing In SWF
I am using Flash MX to make a new Flash movie. For some reason, the audio is playing way early for the entire movie.
Some basic info:
I am working at 24 FPS
My sound files are all MP3s.
It's fine in the FLA project, and when I output the movie as an AVI. I'm just having problems with the SWF. It's very bizarre. Anyone know anything about this? Is it a bug in MX?
Thanks!
MP3 Syncing Problems
I'm having some really bad syncing problems. I'm using stream syncing. What happens is that the whole track is being played faster than it should. If I change the compression from MP3 to RAW or Voice, it syncs up correctly. The problem is only with MP3. How do I fix this?
Syncing Soundloops
hi,
im trying to make a lil movie where 4 buttons toggle sounds that make a up a tune. a button for drums, a button for bass and so on and the user can play each sound independantly or together with the others. ive seen quite a few movies like that floating around the net
like with a lil animation of a band and you can click on each instrument to start or stop it playing... you probably know what im talking about.
the problem is that i have no idea how im going to get the different soundclips to load in sync.
any ideas ?
thanx
Easy Lip Syncing
I ran across the SpeaksForItself speech synthesis plugin a while back, and finally got some time to play with it today. It's amazing!
The plugin is an easy way to add speech synthesis to any website. But what's really interesting to flash developers is the plugin returns values for mouth-shape/lip-position on-the-fly. These values can then easily be used to create talkgin lips in flash using either lips you create in the authoring environment, or lips drawn with the MX drawing API.
Here is a basic example I threw together today using only curveTo(): Speaking Smiley
Next I want to use it with my own or other's voices. The syncing will always take a bit of tweeking, but you get realistic looking lips in a fraction of the time!
[note-I'll try to find the time to add basic drawing functionality to this example so you can draw your own face]
I hope everyone has a Great Weekend!
