[CS3] Editing A Template
Hi all, I'm new to these forums and to flash. I've just bought a flash website template from a company on the web and have started my attempt to edit it. I can edit the text portions without much issue, i have relatively good Dreamweaver experience. But my problem is when I try to edit an animation of the company logo. I have tried to find the animation in the library but Im really not 100% with what im doing.
I know that Im not giving you a whole lot of useful info here to help me so is it possible that I can post the .swf anywhere here or can you recommend anything.

Help With Editing A Template
I am trying to load an image that is located on the internet onto a flash site. I bought this site as a template. Here is the code already associated with the panel I want to edit.

What this does, to the best of my limited understanding is loads the image from the root of the directory. The image is named: tfile_pic2.png

So replacing this image is as easy as overwriting the tfile.pic2.png. But how would I go about changing this so that it loads an external file, in particular:

If I am going about this all wrong, please point me in the right direction. Thank you.

Editing A Template?
Hi everyone, I'm very new to the whole Flash thing, and am working on a Flash resume for a class project. I am using a template my professor provided for each person in the class and going through and trying to carefully edit all the frames to tailor the movie to how I actually want it.

I have hit a stumbling block, however. There is a movie clip embedded in intro page that begins with a circle, and when you scroll over it, it splits in half and reveals the words "Enter Here." I went through all the frames to change the color of the circle, though, and now when I try to play it, it won't open in half when I scroll over it.

I had to edit the colors in both the movie clip and in the actual layer, and thought maybe that had caused it...? Of course, I really have no idea.

Should I just leave it how it was, or is there a way for me to change the colors to how I want them and still get this movie to work?

Editing A Flash Template
I'm trying to change the background music in a flash template using Flash Mx 2004. When I do a CNTL+L to edit the background music after importing my music file and saving it , the same music plays, what am doing wrong? One more question where exactly is the music playing from I can't seem to locate this file that's playing

I pretty much have no idea on how to use flash and have very limited time. All i want to do is change the pictures in the template into my own.

Editing Flash Template?
hi, Im new to Flash MX and im trying to edit a website template ive downloaded from Designload. I therefore have the .fla .swf and .psd files.
My question is how do change the content of the text in the .fla template? For example: I want to change where it says "Your Slogan Here" to my page title whilst retaining the same font, colour and style, only in the .fla file the text is currently in bitmap format and i cant see how to edit it. If i rightclick and "open with PhotoEd" it says "The file 'xyz' does not exist, unable to open PhotoEd".
I can however edit the text using the .psd files as id like in photoshop but then i cant see how i can import these in to MX to replace the template version?
What id like to do is to be able to edit the text in the .fla then generate a new .swf once im finished.. is this possible?

Editing A Flash Template
I recently bought a flash template from Templatemonster.

My flash knowledge isn't very good, what i would like to know or if someone could alter a file for me would be greatly appreciated

Help Editing A Link Into A Template
I've been reading around and watching tutorials and I still can't figure out how to add a link to text and images in flash template I have. I think it's because of layers and movies.

If anyone had a moment to jump on MSN with me I'd share the file and hopefully you could point out where I am going wrong.

Problem Editing A Template
Hey...we paid to have a flash template edited but the designer lost the edited FLA file so now I'm trying to edit it myself with Flash 8 but have a problem.

There are 6 buttons/links that need the text and HTML link changed on them. I did the following to edit one of the buttons:

1. opened the button/image
2. right clicked on the button/image and then clicked on "break apart"
3. I then edited the text on the button

After that I saved the flash project, and exported the movie, but when I run it, the text on the button is changed but the mouseover animation and link won't work (they do, however, work on the other buttons that I did not edit).

I must be missing something when I'm finished doing the editing or maybe I'm not saving it right..I don't know. But any help would be appreciated.

[F8] Editing Bitmaps From Template
Hi Guys,

I have a flash template to which I need to make some changes to some bitmaps.

When I right click on the bitmap (in the library window) and select edit with Fireworks, I get the error

"The file c:Documents and Settings......WebsiteFlaLayer 18 copy.png does not exisit, unable to launch external editor"

I get this will all the bitmaps.

When I select edit with and browse to either the fireworks .exe or photoshop.exe I get the same error.

Can anyone help with this??

Editing Slideshow Template
Hi, I really suck at actionscript so I need your help!

I'm using the template to design a slideshow. At the last frame/slide of the show, I want the next button to still appear and go back to the first frame/slide when clicked. I can't figure out how to do this. Thanks for your help.

Fonts Not Right After Editing Template
Hey,

I just bought a flash template. It has some cool fonts that i want to use. I only changed some of the writing in flash 8 and then ran the movie and saved it. I then copied the new movie into the site flash folder and clicked on the index file. When it opens all the fonts are gone and are replaced by some really horrible fonts. Is there a way to fix this? The template did come with a folder called fonts but i dont know how or even if i'm supposed to somehow embed these into the movie. Thanks for any replies.

Editing .swf Files For Web Template *Help*
Hey, I am VERY new to flash, and I am not really interested in learning all about it.

But I do have a few problems.

1.) I downloaded a Web Template in Flash, to use on a website I am making.
- These are the folders in this template and the files in each folder.
- Flash ( content.fla / index.fla / home.fla) Type of file - Flash Documents -
- Html ( about/contacts/home/index/news/products/services) < Flash Movies also another Index file type (Firefox Document)
- psd (index) << Adobe photoshop image
- fonts 5 font names.

Ok, so I have adobe flash cs3, and I messed around a little bit with the .fla files content/index/home, and changed the text to suit what I wanted, and also removed a sound clip, and changed some more text.

Now I saved these, and copied over the .fla files in the Flash folder.

Here is my problem, although my changes saved,the website still looks the same even after re uploading the new .swf files. Although when i open the .swf files in Flash they are infact changed.

I've tried deleting all the .fla and .swf files i uploaded, and re uploading my changed ones, but it seems like it's not even going off of the .fla files that I edited? and the files in the HTML folder I cannot edit.. they just open up like a jpeg picture.

Any feedback or help would be GREATLY appreciated, Thanks in advance. I'll keep checking back for a response.

Help Editing A Template, This One Seems Tricky
Hi,

if you take a look at the main_v7 swf file (down below), you will see the original template.

main_v7_02 is the version I'm working on.

the problem: if you take a look at the file I'm working on, and move the cursor over 'partners' and click on it, you should see that the photo is getting squashed. I'd like to have the photo disappear right when the link is clicked, to avoid the squash effect. The photo is a bitmap. If I turn the bitmap into a button, the clickable area (or 'hit' area) ends up interfering with the link that expands the rectangle, so I've given up on that idea.

Anyone have an ideas? Solutions?

Editing A Pre-Made Template
I bought a premade flash template, however as of now it is created in non-flash format. I would love to have my top piece as the flash that it was meant to be. My site is currently http://www.georgiavideoproductions.com and the way that it should look is located here at http://www.templatemonster.com/website-templates/12176.html I hear people saying bad things about template monster.com, but there are a lot of site selling this same template, but I just ended up buying it from there.
My problem is how do you edit the flash part of it...I downloaded a free trial of dreamweaver as well as macromedia flash 8. I have folders that I got when I purchased the template, but I am lost as to how I start actually editing this top half with my own company name on it and my own navigation key names. I am new to flash but would like to try to do it myself, but now sure how you begin this. Thanks for any help.

I recently bought a website development magazine which came with a cd. I used one of the flash templates to develop my website.

I wanted to know how I can change the various tabs at the top for example like Home; Gigs etc

And is it possible to add Html links to the right of the flash page?

Editing FLA Template To Add Video
Hey folks (Happy Turkey Day) -

So I am editing a flash website template I downloaded and I am stuck (though very new to flash, so its no surprise).

The template loads a TV screen and displays a series of buttons, when you click on a button it "changes channels" and loads a new page into the screen area of the TV. Very fun and clever.

I have been editing the 'channel's so they display my content and that is going well enough. I have put video in little players on a couple of the channels and here's where I run into a problem. When you navigate to a channel and play the video it works great, but when you navigate away, it KEEPS PLAYING. You can hear the audio in the background and - heaven forbid - you play video on one of the other pages they over lap and its a disaster

My thought was to map a ns.stop(); call on each button so that when you click any button it stops video playback but I have two issues

#1 - if I am using different video (and there for different netstream info) on different 'screens' that I load, will a single ns.stop command work across the board on all of them

and

#2 - I do not understand (even slightly) the coding method of the buttons on the template I downloaded. I'd love to know how to tinker with them or even add buttons but they seem way more complicated than what I learned in the great tutorials here.

Anyway, I am attaching the .fla of the index in hopes that after turkey/football/whatever you do today one of you guru types will be bored enough to take a look!

Template Editing In DreamWeaver MX
I found this neat free template:

and it gives directions how to edit it that seem like it's so easy.

But I don't know how to get to the point to be able to edit these, is anyone with more experience able to point me in the right direction here?

Most of the files I try to open in DreamWeaver give me a hard time, I think I am opening them from the wrong area by just clicking open? Also I am dumbfounded on how to get editable regions!

Editing A Flash Template - Going Nuts
I am trying to add some links to a flash template... This site is a full flash site and its set up so that you only have to modify a few text documents... the only problem is that the some HTML codes will work in these documents, but others won't and I don't know how to set up internal links.

I can link to external sites with A HREF, but if I try to add the following type of code, it screws it up... no more writing shows up on the page after the HREF tag...

and further down

<A NAME="X">X</A>

I think its the number sign... is there anything i can write before it to tell flash to ignore it as part of flash coding? The same problem when I have a ? included in a link.

Also, I don't know how to link between the different text files.

[MX] Editing Template Menu - BIG PROBLEM
I purchased a standard flash template from perfectory.com to customize (for my brother inlaw). I am totally new to flash but I was able to edit the header and banner fine. The menu is not so easy. I need to edit the page names in the menu. When imported to flash mx all I am able to view or edit is Home/ button1. I cant find About, Services Products or the other buttons to edit text. When I look at the library there are no symbols, just a bitmap and a menu.swf file. I am totally confused! Should it even be edited in flash mx. Its not a readable file in fireworks? Could someone take a look at the page and the menu bar and offer any instructions on how to edit. I have been dealing with this for over a week and havent gotten anywhere.

Editing Flash Template Problem
I downloaded a flash template and after I edit it in Flash CS3 and preview, something strange happens.

The original template is centered in the web browser with a colored background on either side. But, after my edits it defaults to the left side with a plain white background.

Any idea why I'm loosing these settings?

New To Flash - Problem Editing A Template
While I have lots of experience with PHP, I am completely new at flash.

Questions Regarding Editing Flash Template...
So I have a auto dealer template that I've edited to suit my company, but since I've a noob to the flash/web design scene I don't know how to assign links to "buttons" that are flash movie clips. When I load the webpage and scroll over the movie box it "plays" How do I make this link to a pop up page? These are all in the library as "movie". None of them are buttons.

Also, there are scroll menus in the page, how do I set up the various fields in the scroll menu to link somewhere? These are also listed as "movie". Thanks in advance for your help!

Editing A Premade Template, HEPl?
Ok, so I'm new to Flash, I've only had it a couple of days. And I decided the best way for me to learn would be to download a web template and edit it to make a simply site.

My problem is this, how to add text to the buttons. I tried openning the included JPGs in Photoshop and made em look nice, but they don't display in any way after saving them. Similarly, I wasn't able to edit anything using Adobe. So, I tried using Flash MX, and when I added text to the buttons, eg, clicked on the tab for the button, then went to insert text over the area that button occupies. It did nothing. Similarly, importing the images from Adobe into the flash didn't work.
I'm doing something fundamentally wrong, and I'm sure this is a laughable issue, but I'm really stumped. I don't know what I'm supposed to do at this point. Any and all help/advice is much appreciated.

Editing/Altering A Purchased Flash Template?
I am considering buying this template, or one like it, for a website:

It's a company of content that a flash site is purposeful. What I am wondering is, if I have flash mx, how challenging is it for someone to open this and alter such things as:

1. naming the menu choices
2. adding company name to relavent location
3. adding body content to each page

and your basic types of things...

how about more complex things? such as basic colors, removing that volume bar set if wanted? changing the aspect ratio etc...

Can someone tell me, for an intelligent person who has general knowledge but nothing specific to flash, how hard this would be?

Also - if I would need help, would offering the source files to you guys in order to help me be worth your while? You can use it and alter it or learn from it, in return for helping me if needed?

Problem Editing A Template - Dont See The Entire Timeline
On a different template if I go all the way to the end of the timeline, I dont see the complete flash video. it ends just before the some buttons "drop in", also, where would I go, to see on a timeline the changes that load after I click on a button.

Editing Txt And Adding Links To Pre-designed Flash Template

Beginning to wonder if I can do this. I have a Flash template that I want to edit text and add site links to. But when I try to open in Dreamweaver am only seeing the html files which don't contain the text. When I open the files in Flash, it tells me that the selected files (that contain the text) can't be opened. Can I configure Dreamweaver to open the .fla and .swf files or do I have an unworkable template? TX.

After I posted here I realized that I was thinking Dreamweaver and html, but asking about Flash files and didn't want to C/P. I have Flash 2004 Pro, but am inexperienced w/ it, which is the reason I'm using a pre-designed template.

The total files inside the template: 1-.fla, 2- .swf, 1- html, (a Flash logo). When I open the template folder in Dreamweaver, I am only seeing the .html file. When I copied the .fla contents into Dreamweaver (externally) this is what shows up (w/ code view only and no edit functions avail.):

When I open Flash, the files w/ scenes that I (apparently) need for text edits, (ie "Your Company Name Here"), show "Current Selection Cannot Have Actions Applied To It".

I realize that I need to go deeper into Flash w/ tutorials and the like, but thought that integrating Flash into DW, and only changing text in, and adding links to, a premade template, would have been more straightforward than I'm finding it to be. TX for looking.

Swithching Function From Test File To Template? Loop Isn't Working In Template
Hello everyone,

I've finally come back to my original document that I need this function to work on. There's a problem with it continuously looping to undefined when I move it from images1-1 to bubba1-2.
Bubba1-2 is my default template that I need to make this work on.

I've placed a zip file if I'm not making sense, for someone to help me on this little loop problem.
I think the problem is on line 116 of bubba1-2, when I tell it to loop again.

images1-2 is what I'm trying to achieve in bubba1-2.fla

Looping to undefined????????????
I know it has something to do with me calling my xml function all over again. But, I cannot figure out where my problem lies.

Contact Form In Template Monster Template
Hello. I need help...i have seen a lot of posts, but the script provided is all different...can someone please take a look at what I am using and tell me what is wrong. Editing Instance Without Editing Symbol
Hi I'm having some trouble editing instances without editing the whole symbol.

I know that when you double click on something it takes you into symbol editing form, but how would you put action scripts on different frames of two instances?

[CS3] Editing Video In Flash Or In Video Editing Software First?
I am new to flash and just want to know what seems most logical in putting together some interactivity to my clients website. Described below is what she wants, and i'm wanting feedback as to whether all can be done in Flash or if I might need to combine different applications to create the final product.

She's a romance writer. She wants her website to have items from her book (like real images of an old western saddlebag, letter's, etc...) that when clicked upon, open up and reveal what's inside. So for example, user clicks on an image of an old western saddle bag and the bag opens up to reveal an old letter.
She wants real film/images from a real saddle bag from the local western museum. I'm thinking of tying a string to the saddlebag flap and videoing it opening to reveal the letter and then croping out everything besides the bag? If the video is 2 seconds.. that could be 30 frames to edit? or should i use something like Final Cut Pro to edit the 2-3 secs of video 1st (cropping out bag only) then import to flash? if anyone has any good ideas to get me started in the right direction, let me know! Thx so much.

When I click on the last line, the program opens to Object Actions, however the line does not appear. And when I click Basic Actions or anything, all the options like GoTo, Play and Stop are grayed out. Am I editing in the wrong place? Also all the layers are unlocked.
Any help would be appreciated

Editing A .SWF ?
Hey all,
Today started off very gloomy for me, and it seems it only gets worse and worse. I am not that fluent in flash so I downloaded a template from this site and edited it to suit my needs... (btw, I do not claim it is 100% mine).

Anyhow, here is the rest of the story. A while back I was forced to reformat my computer and I lost everything. The only part of my flash movie that I now have is a .swf of which I downloaded from my site... I don't need to change a whole lot in my movie, I just need to edit the text in some spots to bring it up to date.

Is there anyway I can edit my .swf ??? Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I import a flash movie file for editing, I am losing all the linking imformation and sound. All I am trying to do is eliminate the text(the welcome message) from the movie. It can be see at http://www.skyemarsden.com/. Even when I import it into flash and resave it with another name without making any changes, it loses all the navigation info. I've tried publishing it but it makes no difference. What am I missing?

Help With Editing A Swf In A Fla
Hi,

I have found a swf file and grabbed it down from a website. I have put the swf into flash, sadly loosing all the sound. How do import the swf file into a fla without loosing the sound? All it has is bitmaps and symbols, no buttons or sound.

I don't have the original fla file because the swf was taken from a website.

I am trying to get the sound from the swf for a novelty flash birthday card for a mate. I would be so grateful of any help.

Hi, Wonderful forum. Learning lots here. I am a newbie and trying to build my first flash intro. What I have is a logo that I want to either zap with lightning or a metal arc/spark to run around the circle of the logo, then will flip the logo, etc. I don't know how to add moving lightning to it though. I have found some lightning flashes that are fre eto use, but has other content in with the lightning that I don't want. Anyone have any pointers, been pulling my hair out for a week now... thanks
