Flash :: The Version 7 (MX 2004) Fla File Shows Correctly In Version 8

Old Version Of Movie Shows In Web Browser Rather Than Newer One.
I am developing a web site entirely in Flash MX2004. I have found that when I make changes in the code and re-publish the SWF when I upload it to the web server and view it in a web browser it always shows the old version of the file, despite the fact that I have uploaded and overwritten the previous SWF. I have tried clearing the browser cache, but it still persists. I have tired both Internet Explorer 6 and the latest version of Firefox with the same results. And, get this - I have even deleted the SWF from the server and it STILL shows the old movie playing despite the fact that it has been deleted entirely.

It's really freaking me out because I am developing the site for a customer and I can't show them the changes I have recently made as I can't see them on the testing URL I am using.

Hi, i was wondering what the relationship is between the end users player version and the authoring tool. If a swf file has been created in the latest version of flash will it play on all players or does the user need to have the latest compatible player installed. Thanks in advance

I'm trying to find out if there are issues with loading a SWF movie clip using:

If you compile the swf that this is created with to a few versions behind, say Flash V6 and AS1, and the compiledwithgreaterversion.swf file is compiled with Flash 8 and AS2 code, what happens to the player? Does it downgrade the AS VM so it runs the loaded movie with lowest code version possible, or will it run the loaded movie using the AS2 code? I'm loading inside a browser plugin of version 9 or greater.

Hoping this makes sense and someone with some knowhow can answer...

anyone figure out how to set up checkin/check out files? i am working with someone over a local network and we cannot figure out how to set this up correctly.

Looking For A Trial Version Of Flash MX 2004
I have been using Flash 7 at my desktop computer to work on a group project. Currently I'm overseas and I hoped to download a trial version of Flash 7 on another computer over here to continue my work.

So far, this hasn't worked and here's why:
-Macromedia's website only offers a trial version of Flash 8
-When googling, I find trial versions of Flash 6
-When googling I DO NOT find Flash 7.0 for Windows
-When googling, I find versions of Flash 7.2 BUT it will only install if 7.0 is already installed

(NOTE: Moving from Flash 7 to Flash 8 to Flash 7 again will leave some really messy results. I wish to avoid that.)

My options:
-Give up (bad idea)
-Have someone who's better than me at googling find it
-Have someone send me the 7.0 installer via email, AIM, a server, etc.

Can someone be my hero?

Is there a way to fade an image in using actionscript?

I have a thumbnail, with the code:

please help me over this "version" problem...
I installed win2000 in french as basic language. then i installed flash 5 and all the texts as well as the actionscript run without problem. so I exported all the files.
after putting on the web, when it is viewed with french-basis windows, it is fine. Once I use the Eng. windows (or chinese wndows), both the texts and the actionscipt not work properly...I really don't know why will it be that, can anyone give me a hand on this?

Loading Fp Version 9 Swf Into Older Version Swf
Hi,
I am trying to load a flash player version 9 swf into a version 6 swf, using loadMovieNum. When I load it into _level 0, the loaded swf works, but when I load it into a higher level, it doesn't (I am not using _root in the 9 version).

What could be the reason?

I also have a lot of problems using the MovieClipLoader class or loadMovie for this.

(I need this to combine the use of the swfObject and building some kind of preloader)

Problems When Switching From Version 6 To Version 7 ()
i´ve got this xml price list imported into flash, and all script written for version 6. When exporting to version 7, some problems occur:
the import/parse split-into-arrays part is working fine.
the duplicateMovieclip dosent work, and the arrays' values comes out NaN.

Can anyone tell me if the syntax have changed from v. 6 to v. 7 ?

Flash Mx Prof 2004 Version 7: Creating Url Links For Buttons

Please, please please help, I have just upgraded my flash mx to flash mx 2004 professional version 7 and now I wish I didn’t. After opening an flash mx file (mx fla) onto mx 2004 professional named it as doc 1 . I wanted to add a simple url link by creating a button and typing the script. At first I typed the flash mx script, then tested the movie by typing f12

So after that I was confused as to why it didn’t work on doc 1. I even removed all the script on the button and still got the same error message, which confused me even more cause that script no longer existed.

My initial thoughts were that doc 1 wasn’t responding to any changes made. so if anyone out there can help can you tell me the following:

1)have I typed the right script to make a button link o a URL?
2)Is there a way of refreshing flash mx 2004 professional?
3)Why is it still showing the same error messages .

Id would be grateful if someone can help me, I def have learnt a lesson don’t run until you can walk properly I,e master flash mx before going to 2004 prof.

Was wondering if there is a way to check the Flash version of a SWF file.

If I save it as a Flash 6 SWF and open it with a Flash 7 player it will only say "About Flash 7 player" no where can I see it embedes into the SWF file the version it is.

Short of installing an old flash version and seeing if it will play, is there another way to tell what version of flash was used for a specific SWF file?

Hi!

I have an old flash version file, prior to the MX 2004, and the new Flash 8 won't open it. I never tried to open a file in flash from a different version until now, and I thought it could be a corrupted file or something, but some colleagues are telling me that Flash doesn't open files from different versions and I just can't help to ask "What?! How?! WHAT?!"

I really hope they're wrong 'cause that's just plain stupid. So, is there a way? Or DO I HAVE TO install my old Flash software to open the old files?!

Does anyone know how to detect an .FLA files version without opening it ?

I need to auto-check fla's before they are uploaded to a CVS system, but only version 8's can be submitted, otherwise I get a system crash.

jsfl script perhaps ? not my strongest area to be honest.

I'm not asking about the users player version, but the version of a .swf file.

(We've got several dozen .swf files that have been exported in different versions and need to know which ones are what.)

I have a very specific question. I am designing a flash banner for a site that clearly states that all flash movies must be in version 5. The movie was created in both Flash MX and Flash MX 2004 and then exported as a flash movie version 5 yet I have received a reply from this site that the flash movie is NOT in version 5.

How can this be?

And since I think they have made a mistake I wanted to check which is the flash movie version but don't know how to get around to do it. Does anyone know how to do this? I would really appreciate any help possible ASAP because this banner is already way overdue.

Preloader Problem (MX File Version)
I was reading the same problem from someone here but no onw gave him a good solution. The problem with my .FLA is about my preloader...the bandwith viewer shows 23kb in the first frame, where it should show only 2 or 4kb for preloader.

I don't want to know how to make a preloader but to make it work it out. What's the problem? I know i could make a heavy movie but how could i make the preloader visible since the begining?

Please Help Me - Need File Saved As Older Version
Someone sent me a file and I'm supposed to modify it. I get an 'unexpected file format' error when I try to open it. I'm using Flash 8 basic. I am unsure as to what the original contractor used to make the file and apparently they can't get in contact with him to ask.

All I can think of is that it's a newer version. Can someone open this and save it as an older version for me so that I can open it in Flash 8 basic?

If I am not using an HTML doc with my Flash file, but just a projector file (the file will be on a CD and not accessed from a web site or page), how can I do a version check for the correct version of Flash? Will the version check from the HTML tab in the publish settings still work?

My text on the txt. file on paragraph has an &. For example:

Anyone know how to check the version of the Flash program or plugin used in producing .swf via file properties?

Here's what happened.

I install Apreview.swf with the Flash.ocx (v7) and SWFlash.ocx (v5) using InstallShield. Then i install an old version called Bpreview.swf which has old version of Flash.ocx and SWFlash.ocx. Both swf works fine.

Problem now is when i install Cpreview.swf (suppose to be same version as Apreview.swf), Cpreview doesn't work. I'm suspecting the developer who did this used different version of Flash to produce Apreview.swf and Cpreview.swf, so I would like to check the version.

I don't have Flash installed on my PC and I'm not familiar with Flash.

Question About Quick Load .swf File Online (any Version)

I'm quite new for flash. I've done a number of splash intro for my assignments and sorts using flash.

sometimes i find it slow to load when i upload the .swf file online.
i've reduce the size of pictures and have done whatever it takes to make the .fla file smaller.

my question is...looking at a fully flash loaded websites like x-men, etc; filled with pictures and all, or some like animation websites / flash games, eventhough i have to wait a while for it to load fully, i find that they load much faster than my simple flash .swf file. is there anything that i must do in order to make my splash intro to load faster online?

Flash Player Version 10 Results Bad Timing Of TurboDemo Generatred Swf File
Our flash educational presentations are working bad in the latest Flash Player version (10). We made them in TurboDemo, and generated flash file, which could be run from our website. However with new flash player the preset timing of page turning does not work. It waits much longer, than the programmed timing. In earlier versions everything worked well, but know it's a disaster, which makes our numerous educational presentation un-enjoyable. The videos are just waiting for nothing for long seconds from page to page, which ruins the smooth flow of the presentation.

Can anybody help how can we fix this issue???

Embedding A Flash File (don't Know Version & Also Need To Avoid PC Warning Dialogues): What's The Latest Correct Way?
Problem: I've had a flash Christmas card created for a client by a designer. Before I can forward it to the client I want to embed it in a html page for them. The designer doesn't know how to do this (I wish I'd known before I commissioned them) and also told me they don't know what version of Flash created the file. They think it was 4 or 5. Eh? Whatever. I went to Adobe's site expecting that somewhere there would be a page providing the cut and paste code for this, but if there is such a page, it's impossible to find by an average person! So I tried cutting and pasting some code I found on a blog which discussed that Microsoft and created an update that caused all sorts of dialogue windows to appear before a flash file could be played e.g. "Click to activative this file", but that this new code would overcome them. Whatever. Pasted the code. Worked fine in a Mac browser, and on some PC browsers it didn't play, or the dialogue windows appeared and had to be clicked through before the file could be played. Am now officially tearing my eyebrows out. Could someone very kindly please paste or direct me to the embedding code that: plays a flash file of any version AND which overcomes any stupid PC dialogue windows. And Adobe: not everyone is a frigging navigational genius. Please put a link to this information on the first page of your Support page. Asking it as a question in the search box doesn't provide the simple answer!

Flash Player Caches Old Version Of SWF In Browser, Causing Incorrect XML Text File To

I'm trying to stop the Flash Player in a browser from caching my movie, I've tried various posted codes for the HTML and Flash SWF file, but nothing seems to work. This is the setup of my movie:

1) When the main movie starts (there is only 1 movie) I have an intro animation followed by text intro copy in the center of the stage. An ActionScript 2.0 created text field loads the text from an array of imported XML files, and places it in the center of the stage. Movie stops.

2) There are 4 buttons on each side of the stage. When you click each button the text in the center is dynamically replaced by passing another item from the array into the text field.

This script works perfectly in authoring mode. When uploaded to a server the text that appears in the single text field is often incorrect. It's as if the script being displayed is randomly selected from the array of XML files. Every reload of the browser produces a different result.

I also have a text preloader in the Flash file, but I wonder if this is creating more problems. Does anyone know where I can find SIMPLE code for loading an array of XML files - that will be preloaded and not cached on the server - plus code for the "Active Content Update - HTTP" version of the generated HTML file?

"Clean" Load Of Swf File Behaves Differently Than Refreshed Version
Howdy folks,

Has anyone here had problems with flash files not loading all the way or behaving badly online vs. locally?

I'm just trying to get a movie clip on the timeline to play, but for some reason if the .swf is loaded "clean", that is after cleaning out your cache, the movie advances to the correct frame in the timeline to play the clip, but the area where the clip should be is empty and the clip won't play. Once I reload the page, the movie plays fine.

Anyone?
