Best Tutorial For Making An Interactive Portfolio?
OK, I'm an experienced programmer and I've made simple movies using Flash...but I have no idea even where to begin making an online portfolio. I'm talking abuot something that loads jpegs and text files at the click fo a button. Most of the beginner books I've looked at cover simple things like animation and drawing. XML Flash Portfolio Tutorial Query

It all works fine but I was wondering how to add more lines underneath the first set of thumbnails? I've done my own version of the same thing with more details in the XML but the thumbs run right across the Flash file so I am looking for a way, if possible, to tile them?

Scrolling Thumbs For Senocular XML Portfolio Tutorial Mutation...
Using bubble gum, snot and paper clips, I have mutated Senocular's XML portfolio into a site. (such a hot piece of code, that xml portfolio!)

I would like to make the thumbs at the bottom scroll left and right, and stop at the beginning and end. I have tried out a bunch of ideas that did not work, I have come to the realization that I don't even know where to begin, as I am not awesome at actionscripting (but I have gotten myself this far!).

Any help on creating a mousover scroll function for these dynamically thumbs would be great!!!!

If someone could help me accomplish this, I would really appreciate it.

The whole site is kinda chunky, so I am not going to post it unless someone asks.

Writing A Course On Flash, Need Tutorial Ideas
I've been teaching a flash course for a while, but feel i need to do more than "how to draw" "how to make buttons"

My plan is:
-Advanced tutorials that combine ideas,
without using much actionscript (not enough time to teach them to program)
-Supply notes on "how to make a button"
so they can do tasks individually AND see how to put it all together.

The Flashkit tut's are a bit disorganised so i'm askingfor youguys to suggest ones that might be suitable.

5 step tutorials are too easy.
3 paragraphs of actionscript is too hard.

here's the basic outline of the course.
if anyone can recommend tutorials from flashkit or elsewhere that i can adapt i'd appreciate it! I will modify tuts as a course for this site too if i get enough help.

Week 1 - drawing and Animation.
We drew a park.
make the sun rotate,
make the duck follow a motion path,
make the bird flap it's wings in an MC and fly away.
We covered: MC's, drawing tools, Tween, and Motion Path!

Week 2 - Buttons and site structure
(go to frame - boring... zzzzz! ideas to spice it up?)
drag buttons, keypress... change cursor on press...??????

week 3 - preloader and publishing
(compression importing? dunno, don't like preloaders boring.)

week 4 - sound
(background, on buttons, on actions, on keypress.)
(needs to be easy actionscript!! looking for good tutorials!)

week 5 - tricks ??
maybe Praystation "Actionscript Art" - simple OOP
must be simple actionscript though - imagine having to explain to 12 non-programmers!

week 6 - loadMovie (advanced site structure - boring too!)

ANY ideas, suggestions, ommissions, additions welcome!

Good lucK! Admins is this acceptable for the tutorial section?

(Please tell me if this swf crashes your window, its got something to do with conflicting actionscript, and the software i used tries counting how many people view the tutorial and tries sending email, even though there's nowhere for the email to go)

Easy Tutorial For Writing Custom Classes In AS3
At least, I *hope* it's easy. Hey, everyone, sorry to be such a troll... this is my first post here, and I just wanted to let everyone know that I've written a tutorial for newbies on how to write and use your own custom classes in AS3.

Flash Tutorial Gave Tiny Writing - Help?
I followed the Flash Getting Started tutorial (the cafe menu thing) with Flash Professional 8. Followed the instructions to the letter. But the menu title text came out much smaller than it should have been, smaller even than the description text. The text size was 14, as stated in the tutorial. The properties dialog box looked exactly as shown in the tutorial, and as in the completed, working version. Also, when I increased the size of the text, it appeared to be stretched horizontally.

Any clue what I might have done wrong? I can post the fla file if that would help (assuming I can figure out how to do so!).

XML - Mix The Squirrel Tutorial And The Portofolio Tutorial

Does anybody have a "for stupid people" tutorial that I could access? I want to learn ActionScript but I need something that will explain it in ENGLISH. I mean, stupid things, like, what is a variable? How do you write a variable? Why do you write a variable? Where do you put a variable? Can it have spaces? Been tinkering with the the xml menu tutorial in Flash MX - no real problems so far with changing the structure and links but does anyone know how I get the menu text to align right instead of left. I have been playing with the text box and it will accept changes for font and size but not allignment. Thanks...

I've been looking for a good XML tutoral that explains how to read and format XML data into flash, and possibly how to pass it back to a script. I found one on flashkit written for flash 5 which I can't get to work. Most of the other articles or tutorials I've found have very little description and just provide you with code to copy/paste. Help With Tutorial
Ok, I have "the basics" of flash down, but dont really know too much about action script. I know other programming languages etc. But my problem is i get through this whole tuorial (short one) on how to make a scrolling nav bar. Then at the very end it says to insert the action script, so i do. The Drop the "movie clp" into my main timeline. What i am confused with is i dont think ther ever was a movie clip and even when i do drop it in my main time line and add the action script what does it do DOH! I have used general help area lots of times and it has always been so useful.
I've been asked to set up a script in Flash that would allow the user to input a number; as in days of the month; ie.7. This number would enter an equation that would create a sum (number) that would then be automatically represented by an updated graph bar.

I found this tutorial, which is almost perfect, but it is for MX, not Flash5.

Help With Tutorial
Hi Guys

I am trying to run a cd from a installed flash 5 exe file.
I have found this tutorial that tell you to create a .bat file with the content below:

start
@ECHO OFF
explorer D:

And then target it from a flash movie using the following:
On (Release)
FS Command ("Exec", "mydoc.bat")
End On

I can get it to launch the file on the CDROM but a WINNT
window remains - I think this is as I cannot seem to add the 'End On' command without Flash saying it is an error?! Would this code close the window?
