Ok, Im A Total Newbie, And I Need Some Help...
ok, im pretty good in photoshop, but im sick of making websites in just photoshop and notepad, so i got Flash MX 6. i have an idea of a layout i want for my site, but i have NO idea how to do it in flash, i have it in photoshop.. heres what i want..

the pic attached, i want it to start out with just those 5 stars in the middle where they are without the box, and when u click the middle red one, the box like someone makes its self or something, and then the other 4 black stars are links that go into that little box, and then the scrollbar to the side...

I have little understanding of Flash,,,,,, but i wish to make a flash programme to insert on my games site.

Basically its a games site, I made the web site myself but saying that ........ it was basically type and enter text,,,,,,,,, very nice to use,

However it has the option to have flash and incorperate it into the site. so i like to be brave and see if i can add this feature.......

I have downloaded Swish , wow wish i didnt lol , and it seems complicated . but i will give it a go...... so pray i ask afew questions.

1, Is Swish suitable for me to use,,,,,,, or is there something easier.
2, It talks of adding a movie, cool,,,,,, but where do i find these movies ???
3, Once I have the above info i think i will be able to add the text and fade it in and out,,,,,,,, I hope lol......

Total Newbie Needs Help :(
I need some help getting a few basic features down. In particular, I can't seem to get my movie to stop/go when I want it to. I am trying to make it so that my movie plays until some text comes up, and then a button appears that can be clicked on to continue the movie, so that the viewer has time to read the text as his/her own pace before continuing. I have tried selecting the frame that I wish for the movie to stop at and then going to the "Actions - Frame" menu, then going into the move control section and dragging "stop" into the white box next to it. This, however, doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help.

Total Newbie: Collisions
Hi guys, hope you can shed some light on a problem I'm having.

I'm very new to 3DFA. Started on it last night. I want to put together a basic game where a collision between a vehicle and an obsticle needs to be detected.

I have the images in place, I have keyboard control of the car, and I appear to have the collision detection set up. But it isn't working

I have two elements, known as Car and Bollard. I also have a scrolling background to give the impression of movement. The bollard also moves and appears stationary on the background.

I have one Scene in the movie, known simply as scene1.

Under Actions for the Scene I have:

On collision "Car" "Bounding box" "Bollard" Hide "Car"

Just for testing. Unfortunatly, I can't get it to work.

Any ideas? I really want to carry on playing but I'm stuck at this point!

Total Newbie Needs Some Help From The Gurus
Hi all, I'm new here and I really need some help.

I'm working on a site and the client has decided he wants his logo to be in Flash. You can see the logo here:

For the line that curves down through the 'R', he wants it to be a 'spectrum' or rainbow of colors. The text will appear and the the line will be drawn down through it, eventually fading to black. He also wants a little 'twinkle' effect when it reaches the bottom.

I need to know 1) how do I make a rainbow colored line? and 2) how do I make the twinkle effect? If anyone has tutorial links, that would be fine, too. I've looked around on the 'net and not found anything.

Which Tool Should I Use? (total Newbie By The Way)
Hi,

Totally new to this Flash animation stuff, but would like to learn it the easy way. Don't want to spend boat loads on Macromedia and don't like illegal copies!

So, which of the many tools (like Koolmoves or Swish) is :-the best
the easiest to learn
the easiest to use
the least limited compared to Macromedia

I certainly don't want whole Flash sites, as I hate them! I do want to create some prettier banners, logos and small animations to put in sites though.

The limit of my skills in this area to date are at waterconsultant.com - not that clever really. I used a tool from Glanda (I think that's their name) after having used their very good DHTMLMenu tool. The Flash tool is a bit basic though!

I'd like integration with - say MySQL/PHP - so I can make some content dynamic if that's possible too.

Total Newbie To ActionScript.
Can anyone suggest a good book, or even better a good online tutorial?

I'm confused at how time works in relation to actionscript.

IE. If I do:

onClipEvent (enterFrame)
{
this._alpha += 3;
}

and then went to do a:

this._alpha -= 3;

right afterwords to fade it back out.. This absolutely does not work.. So how do I track time in ActionScript and kick another event off once the first one has finished?

..or am I making this harder than it actually is?

Total Newbie Question
Okay, I know this is probably simple stuff, but I'm really not finding a solution.

I imported a swf clip into my flash movie in frame 1. Basically it's an intro that I want to go right into my main site. My main movie starts on frame 2. I want my intro on frame 1 to play through and then automatically go to frame 2 of my main movie. I can't get it to work. Alternately, is there a way to add a button to my imported movie clip that will allow it to jump to a page in my main movie clip? All my page is doing is linking to the frame in the imported movie clip. When I try to use a frame label, I get an error. I hope this makes sense to you guys and girls out there because I really can't figure it out. Thanks.

Total AS Newbie, Question
Hi all,

I've just recently decided to tackle Actionscript, as I want to start developing some games.

Anyhoo, a question regarding binding the mouse to a movieclip (character sprite). My character will have 8 different positions (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW) and would need to face each direction according to mouse drag.

My sprite will be able to walk forward, backward, left and right (using the W, A, S, D keys) but will "point" according to where he's facing, according to where you'd drag the mouse.

Just off the top of my head, my guess is that I'd need to set the mouse cursor centerpoint to be the center of my character sprite, correct? What would be a wise way to approach the rest?

Hi. I am brand new to Flash. It came with my CS3 a while back and I just started using it. I've created a project after watching several tutorials. I watched a tutorial on the Adobe site about publishing it, and followed the instructions carefully. I got the .swf file and the html file and the AC_RunActiveContent.js file (no AC_OETags.js file was created). When I preview it in Flash, everything works great. But when I try to run it from the html page, I just get a blank browser window. My source code appears to match everything I saw in the tutorial.
I'm sure I'm just missing something cuz I'm on my first project. Can you offer any insight? Thanks!

Hi all,

After tackling PHP, I've decided to give Flash a go,... so I'm a total newbie and I'm counting on you guys for a little assistance.

My first question (of many probably) is:

I've seen a site that I really like:

When each of the main sections is selected, it loads a nice big high quality image as the background. Is it best to just load in a JPEG to achieve this or is it best to convert it to a vector first?

I also like the way that the scenes fade out before loading the next page (movie). How is this done?. I've got my head around loading movies, but I can't figure out how you make the current movie fade out before loading the next one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Ok, I'm a total newbie to programming in flash.
I can animate in Flash, but that's all.

So, this is my question.
How can I add a command to my buttons so that it plays a certain part of movie (like the buttons fading - lets say frame 5 to 10) and then goes to another part of my movie (like my title appearing ) with this last part always another set of frames depending on the pressed button?

I know this is probably the most simplest code evar, but if anyone could tell me how and maybe show me where I can get newbie tutorials, that would be great!!

Total Newbie - End Of Movie And Buttons
Hi,

I literally just started using flash 2 days ago, I've created a basic flash but it keeps looping, also I can not get it to jump to a webpage on completion.

I've put in the last frame:

stop()
geturl("www.webaddr.com")

Am I missing something? Also I've notice my skip intro button doesn't always work, you have to move the mouse a bit before the mouse icon acknowledges it as a link.

Total Newbie With Some Simple Questions
OK guys, i am a real newbie to flash but a quick learner. I've already created a flash with swish2.0 and exported it as swf and the html to my hardrive. My only problem is i don't know how to get it on my website. I've been trying for 2 days now and can't figure it out. I was using 50megs.com but they only allow 250KB for a file. mine is about 300. I have another web site but it doesn't list swf as allowed file types. I can get the html in the directory but not the swf file. Maybe i'm doing something wrong or maybe somebody can recommend a free web site i can use to post my flash on the web. I am a member of a forum for something totally different and i'm trying to get a flash in my forum signature. I have the code for that already, i just need to get it on a web site first. [F8] Help Total Newbie Presentation Not Stopping
Yeah... Seems simple...

I dont know why its not stopping at the first frame... it loads in projector and goes through frame 1 and then stops on frame 2... there are 12 frames each with a stop; command in a blank layer called actions... i want it to load and stop at frame 1, but it doesnt...
perhaps some sort of gotoAndStop(firstframe) in the onClip(enterframe) event ? ? ?

Its beginning to p1ss me off now, and I need this finished PDQ...

[MX] HP Bar And Attacks Question (total Newbie)
Well as the title suggests I am a newbie. I have an OK knowledge of actionscript, a good knowledge of the program itself, but I still need some help. I am currently making a turn-based combat game and I need to have two persistent HP bars. One of the player and one for the enemy. I want to be able to put a code in on a certain frame of the animation that basically says. "Knock the enemy HP bar down X points." or the player's bar, depending on who is attacking. Of course the bar would have to stay there throughout the whole fight.

If someone could help me I would be most grateful.

I know it has something to do with variables or something...not sure, like I said, newbie.

this is probably really obvious to you guys but i'm in the process of making a slideshow with pictures fading one after another. they have black bgs so i want the bg to be black while they're fading
however, they start off white, fade to the black pictures, then fade back out to white and i really want to change that

Total Newbie - Problem With LoadMovie

I have been lurking around this site for the past few weeks and have to say that you tutorials have helped alot. I have had a little formal training in Director (7.x) and have used Flash very little before the past few weeks. I have created the main site design in Photoshop and have started building the Flash site. After reading the "how to create a full flash site" tutorial, I thought I was golden in getting my interface to come together. However, i have hit a stumbling block that 2 days worth of fumbling hasn't un-blocked.

I have my main site file. This is intended to load the bare basics with a preloader for each element (i.e. button bar, graphics bkgs and so forth). However, since I want the site to basically build in stages I want one element to finish animating before the next (i have found this more pleasing than everything being dumped on me at once as a viewer). To that end, after our logo loads (a movie clip in its own layer in the main timeline) I want its last frame to trigger the next animation in sequence which is the nav/button bar. I have created a swf file for the button bar and the empty movie clip in it own layer on the main timeline. No matter what I do, I cannot get the swf file to load into the proper location. Here is the closest I have gotten:

loadMovie("movieclipname.swf", "_root.mainmenu');
stop();

i have used the stop command here because I want the logo animation to stop rather than repeat. Is this wrong? I have tried this without the stop(), but no go. Thanks in advance...

Total Newbie Seeks Help With A Simple Script
Hi folks,

I am totally new to Flash. I have created a simple presentation which has 3 invisible buttons.
When button 1 is released the timeline goes to frame 5 and displays frame 5. Button 2 = frame 10 and button 3 = frame 15. This works fine in author mode but when I publish (flash 7) it does nothing at all, ie it just holds on frame 1

Motion Tween Problem (Total Newbie Q)
I've been playing with this for a day now and it's driving me buggy.

I'm thinking this is too easy...but I'm stuck.

I have two rectangles of different sizes and colours. One is 16pixels longer than the other.

I have them set sot hat the shorter one is first in the timeline. I apply a motion tween. The short rectangle moves downward. It is an obvious transform as the colours are different.

I don't want the rectangles to appear to move, though I want the "roll over effect" that the motion tween causes.

I don't want the rectangles to be the same size.

Any advice? Is this even possible?

Getting NaN In Total

Total Noobie Q (maybe Not)
hehe cow. anyways. this is my question-->

i am creating a website and i'm making an intro no probs with that. but i want it to be slightly interactive. For example, user can chose background colour of HTML page etc, menus that link to other places. and one feature that really has me ticked off trying to do is when a user selects an option from a drop down menu and from the side a box slides in with information, basically i need an actionscript lesson!!!. i find the ones here to be too specific they don't deal with how to make an object react to mouse movement and other stuff like that.
