Hi guys... help please!
WHAT DO I WANT TO DO?
I want to cut out people's heads from jppg images and insert them into a Flash movie.
WHAT HAVE I DONE?
I have cut out their heads from the image.
WHAT'S MY PROBLEM?
When I save the image (whether it be as gif, esp, png, jpg, bmp, tif etc) the transparent part around their heads turn to white. I want to keep them transparent as the bg colour on my stage in Flash is multi coloured.
Also, when I import the images into flash (be it as a symbol or directly onto the stage), they automatically turn to bitmap images.
MY QUESTION?
How do I keep the transparency????

Ok, i found a guide to making transparent flash backgrounds on the macromedia site, and used them, and it worked great...In firefox. In IE, transprency didnt work at all, and thusly neither in slimbrowser..
basically im trying to figure out what went wrong. Ive upgraded to IE7 just to test it, and still, same problem.

ive tried messing with the alpha, but it isnt working as well as i hoped. does anyone have any other suggestions for me that may work for making my symbols transparent, save for the stars and squares?

Hi,
I have a text movie which comes on top of another blue colored movie.
But when the text movie comes on top of the blue movie it is not entirely transparent. There is a translucent patch seen on some machines. In my laptop it looks perfectly fine like a transparent piece of text. Anyone knows what the issue can be.
The text movie is created in this way:
There is a movie under the text field of the same size which is of _alpha=0
There is a movie over the text field of the same size which is also of _alpha=0
These are needed to drag the field around and change the base color as needed.
I tried removing the movie under the text field, and use the background, and backgroundColor functions instead to control the color of the field. But still I can see a faint patch on the text field. Is it because of the transparent movie over the text field? If yes, then what is the meaning of _alpha=0
Please help if you can think of some other reason behind this.

Transparency Issues
I'm updating my portfolio site and am currently displaying images as a referenced file which is drawn from a folder on my server when the appropriate button is pressed. Right now, in order to use a drop shadow behind each piece, each image file contains a slice of the patterned BG with the drop-shadowed portfolio piece sitting on top of it.
This is working out fine for most of the files, but for some reason the BG comes in slightly shifted on others and causes a jarring effect when each new piece becomes displayed. Is there a way to add a drop shadow behind each piece (which I'm adding in photoshop) without having to lay it against a copied slice of the bg display?
I've found plenty of ways to maintain a transparency while the image is brought into the actual movie itself, but none of them work when I use the file as a referenced image.
Have I explained this clearly? Any help would really be appreciated. Have a great Labor Day.

Alpha Transparency Issues
This is my first flash site - first flash issue
I have a flash movie that loads onto my site. Within the movie there is a symbol that is a semi-transparent black box. The box has a motion tween that has it slide onto the stage on-release of a button, it then stays up until you roll-off of the symbol, and then it slides off of the stage.
The animation works and looks fine on any browser i've tried on a mac, but on versions of internet explorer on some pc's, the transparent box doesn't appear. Everything else associated with the box going in and out happens, except that box isn't visible.
I feel like I either built the symbol/tween improperly, or i need to save my flash movie differently but have yet to find a solution.
Any help?

Flash Movie Transparency Issues
Greetings,
I'm using Flash for a logo on a page. I need the HTML layers below to show through the Flash layer. Window mode is set for "transparent windowless" in the publish setting when I publish from Flash, and I entered the proper parameters in Dreamweaver ("wmode" "transparent"). No matter how I stack the various layers, the Flash is still on top and not allowing underlying layer through. Yes I have a current browser (IE6). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Alpha Issues And Funky Transparency
When I fade a movie clip (alpha to 0) in a new cartoon I just, the individual pieces which make up the movie clip (character) show through on top of each other, as if each individual piece is having the alpha applied to it, instead of the clip as a whole... never had this problem in earlier versions of flash... any ideas?
here's the clip so you can see what I mean... sometimes it's a cool effect, but generally it's annoying...

Browswer Size Issues + New "FlashObject" Detection Kit Sizing Issues
Hi,
After a few years of trying to learn Flash there is one aspect that really still remains a grey area to. What size to publish a movie.
Do I look to make my movies a set size on publishing – by using “Match Movie” & if so what should that set size be – 800 x 600?
I know of 3 other ways to get round the browser size issue
1.) Use the “Stage Object” in conjunction with onResize to allow some clips to fill a screen while keeping others to a set size.
2.) Ascertain a users browsers size & direct them to an appropriate version of your site.
3.) Scale your movie according to an ascertained browser size so if the movie was designed @ 1020 x 760 & the user has an 800 x 600 you scale the main movie accordingly using x & y scale.
The problem has been somewhat complicated for me by the introduction of Geoff Stearns brilliant “FlashObject” detection kit. With that you have to specify the size of the element that the Flash movie will load into & also set a fixed size for the Flash movie. From what I can see this will cut out the option of publishing a movie @ 100% & resizing or not resizing using the stage object.
Could someone please advise me of what is best practice as far as sizing is concerned.

Hello !
I would like to know if it's possible to have a transparent stage
for example when you add a SWF file to a normal HTML web page
and the stage had to be a little bigger ( page=800x600,
stage=530x400, animation in the stage starts at 460x200
and ends at 460x400) beacuse it's a card that opens.
If not what are my solutions?

We are creating an ad to play on a website and the movie is playing on a transparency background. We have no problems playing the movie on browsers IE 5.5 and above, but when we play the movie on IE 5.0 and under, once the movie has played, we cannot click on any links on the site. The transparency background seems to layer itself on top and we need to find out how to get it to dissapear. This is urgent as we have already passed the due launch date for this client and need to know what needs to be done to make this happen to users on IE 5.0 and 4.0. CAn you help?

Hello again...
I have been working on getting a flame effect for some time. And i think i have finaly got it.
To get this effect i have 1 picture of flames that i place on the stage and rotate it clockwise. then i duplicate the same image and have it rotating counter clockwise. The reslult is quite efective.
To do this i had to change the Alpha to around 50% to make the pictures transparent. This resulted in the flames becoming dull
MY question is... can i make the flame pictures transparent without losing the brightness and sharp contrast ???

Well I'm kinda a newbie to flash but I've looked alot of places and I can't find an answer to this question. If I have a picture in Photoshop or some other program and there is white space around the outside of it. How do I put it into FlashMX on a layer so that I only see the picture part and the white space is either gone or transparent. That way I could make a background on a different layer. Is there any way to do this.

I was wondering if it's possible to make an imported image have a transparent background. I'm importing images from photoshop 7, so when I'm dealing with multiple layers there's a white box behind the image where the background of the photoshop file was. Is there any way to make this transparent so that I can see the layer behind it without the white background? I'm very new at flash, so please keep this in mind if you respond. On my website i have used several buttons created using flash MX. The buttons have rounded edges, so there is a section of the background visible.
Is there anyway to place the buttons into the HTML document, with a transparency, so the background of the buttons (the white bit basically) transparent?

I have this video of a person walking, they are shot against a green screen.
What I am trying to do is put this video (which is a quicktime) into flash MX and then key out the green. Then I want to put that .swf file onto my html website so that when the flash file playes, the person walks across the webpage.
I can not for the life of me keep the transparency of the quicktime file.
Any suggestions on how to do this?!?!?
I have been at this for weeks and have hit the wall.

I use to be able to create transparent squares n other shapes but now I somehow can’t make them transparent in flash MX 04. I set the alpha to 20% n make a square and its just a lighter shade of the original color, it didn’t becomes transparent. PNG's Transparency
Hey guys, I'm having a problem importing images (with transparent background) into Flash. At first I used to export them as a gif, it has an amount of transparency (when imported to Flash) but as it goes nearer to the actual image white edges starts to appear. I tried importing its actual PNG and the transparency around edges are perfect but I've noticed that the image quality has degraded. Help! Since there are no options in the Export Wizard. Thanks!

The solution to this problem is probebly really simple, but i'm still learning so bear with me...
I made a flash banner for my website...
I have an image in the background....
but the flash banner overlaps the background image, thus you cant correctly see the background image...

hi im having some problem with a web site and i hope
u can solve this please.
the thing is that i use png images with
transparency.
when i enter de site it works fine
but in any other machine it shows a lighter
rectangule as the real size of the picture
so u see the object whith a light background and
that should be transparent.
the same thing happens when y put a alpha backgorund

I recently built this site:

I used a transparent Flash background to have the Flash content always centered and only the HTML background cut off on smaller screens.
The transparency however does not work on MACs.
Any idea to make this MAC compatible as well?

I have just created a flash movie with a drawing in it supplied as part of a supplied PDF which I extricated using Corel Draw and exported as an ai. I have comfortably made it into a movie clip symbol and put it into a flash document and added a few animations. Looks fine. The photos I have been moving around trhe drawing kept their transparency when I optimised them from photoshop CS2 as GIFs. The problem is that I want to stick the movie into a web site which has a graphpaper background on the pages. I think that making a background in flash to match the dreamweaver one would be just about imposible so is it possible to make the movie have a transparent back ground?
The other issue is that I don't particularly want to restrict the web page to those with the latest flash player, but when I publish it as v6 or even v7 it tells me that it is not suitable for these players. I haven't used any particularly clever new functions as I am aware. I have just made motion tweens of photos resizing and moving and one photo tweens from 0% alpha to 100%. As a newbie I have close to zero experience with flash other than my recently finished Total Training course, so any help would be gratefully received as this is bound to be an on-going issue. I have intententionsally avoided using the nice new filters John Ulman explained came with v8 for this very reason.
