Flash :: URGENT Help With Flash Menu Links

Links In Flash Menu ? Urgent Please
I have created a menu that consists of five submenus (item1,...item5) Everything seems OK but when I created the link for such items (submenu I mean)to a certain HTML page, the menu did not work, instead, it went to the end (like we move the mouse out the menu). So anybodoy who can make this, please tell me how to make that LINK possible . Or shounld you have any FLA file of this kind, please email me at hcongthanh@yahoo.com . Updating Flash Menu With HTML Links
Hello all-

I'm bit newbie-ish in the AS department and I'm currently trying to handle something that probably seems really old to most of you.

I have a flash menu targetting an iframe to update it's content. While this works as expected, the one problem I have is if I include any internal links in the HTML content of that iframe, the flash menu does not update to reflect where that person navigated to.

More specifically, if my flash menu has an "About Us" button, which when clicked it targets the iframe to load "about_us.html"

The "about_us.html" page contains a link called "mission_statement.html", which when clicked brings up the "mission_statement.html" - however, the flash menu does not update to show that the user is looking at "Mission Statement" page - it's still showing "About Us"

I imagine this requires the use of variables, but as I said, I'm a bit AS-stupid (heh) and could use a pointer or two.

Help Flash Menu Relative Links Script
I am currently putting together a menu which will appear on a pretty large site. The problem i have is relative getURL links in .swf files are only relative to the .html file they are embedded in. This becomes a problem when you are creating one flash menu that will appear on html files in multiple sub folders! Sure i could use absolute links but this only works when the site is live!

I've put some script on the movie that i hoped would solve this problem but it doesn't seem to have worked?

I would be eternally grateful if someone out there could help!

Attached is a sample .fla of the menu containing the script etc.

Flash Dropdown Menu Links Do Not Work
What I am trying to do is this:
A Flash drop down menu - I have
A MovieClip instance "servicesMCinst" with
CODE
// dropem is a label at frame 10

For each MC at frame 10 (ie. "dropem") I have included some buttons below
each other.
each of the buttons has the code:

When I test, the showing and hiding of the dropdown buttons is fine
BUT
The buttons are not acting as a button acts ie.
There is no change in its mouse normal view vs mouse over view (or mouse
down view)
Also the getURL is not performed.

I guess it is simply just NOT recognising the mouse.

This has caused me so much time and effort, I would so much appreciate any
help you are prepared to give me.

Need Someone Good In Flash To Assign Links To A Movie Clip Menu
Hi
I downloaded a flash template but got stuck on assigning the links to the movie clip'navigation menu.
I tried to edit the .swf file in flash 8,but the menu does not show together with the header clip.The difficulty is that it is a movie clip and not a button so it does not allow getURL().
I followed this tutorial but it only applies on buttons and property panel shows each button as a movie clip

Menu Links From XML
I'm not asking for links which would open web-pages in new/current window, I need links in text-box (like when you write A HREF tag in text-box), but when clicked, the link should start a function in ActionScript (for example to go to other frame, reload text-box content or anything else)

Xml Menu And Links
hey all,

So, I have been building this website and have run into a snag. The navigation for the site does not work well. The user seems to have to click alot of buttons just to get the information they want, so here is the site www.bradparish.com/rta/

First, I am using a flash navigation on the left side to control content in an Iframe. Secondly, I have links in the Iframe that I would like to control the flash navigation. For instance, on the portfolio page. When a user clicks on a project, I would like the menu to expand to the location of where the link in the menu is:

example: in the profolio page, click on campden lakes home and the menu on the left expands project; over 4000 sq ft;

So, having said that; do i have the site setup weird? Is there an other navigation menu that I can use. I think this is a flash actionscript, but i am not sure, sorry if If this questions should be in an other category. I hope someone can show me the errors of my ways. Many thanks

Menu Links To Same Scene?
I'm trying to make a scene with a menu. That I know how it works but what I'd like to do is that the links open beneath or on the side of the menu instead of totally chaging scenes. Cant Get Menu Links To Work.
Please let me know what I'm doing wrong. I've spent over 3 hours searching this forum and trying various fixes without any luck. My menu comes up fine in the debugger, however clicking any links on the menu do not even bring the user to a different page. The mouse changes over to a hyperlink pointer so, I'm pretty sure I set it up right but, I know there is something I'm missing.

I'm not asking for a quick fix to the code, but a detailed explanation on what I'm doing wrong. Thank you, your help is much appreciated.

Infinite Menu & Links ?
Hi,

This is my first post to this forum. I'm just a newbie in Flash MX and created an infinite menu (containing 8 pictures that are grouped). The menu itself works perfect. Now what I would like to do is make 8 different links. 1 for each picture. So when I click on a picture I get a screen with info about that specific picture.
I can't seem to get this done with my infinite menu ?

Infinite Menu Links
I am brand new at this so please forgive me... I am working on the infinite menu that is on the tutorials pages here and I am able to make the animation work, however since you have to convert the whole thing including the text to one symbol in order for the animation to work I can't figure out how to turn the text into buttons and make them links without having them stay stationary while the box around the text moves. Basically I need the text inside the menu to be buttons instead of movie clips so they can link my pages from my index page.

I have used the tutorial here: http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/dropdownmenu.htm to make a drop down menu for my site. However, i'm a complete noob and this is my first full flash site, and i'm not sure how to make the individual buttons link.

I have placed the menu as a movieclip on the main timeline, and want the buttons to load external swf files into a blank movie clip on the main timeline.

Getting Dir Names As A Links In Menu
i have problem to do something in flash MX 2004 so i have question to this fine community

1. there are some CD's with some subdirectories [ names of subdirectories are different on every CD ]

2. on these CD's are autorun.exe [ created with SWF Studio ] which contains swf ,and this swf is used to show content of

main folder

3. in every subdirectory there is the same swf file and it is showing content of the subdirectory.

---and here goes my question---

is there posibility to make a simple menu [ in the swf file from 2nd point ] which will be containig links to swf files in subdirectories ,but it should dynamically get subdirectories names and transform them into menu links

XML Menu - URL Links Broken
I've been working on an imitation of the SamataMason website sub navigation. Right now I have a top level menu that is created from an array, and a sub menu display that is created from XML. If you click on any of the top 4 or so items in the menu you'll see a list of links displayed below. The problem at this point is that the line of code that controls which XML nodes get displayed causes the URL links to break.

Line 37 of the "XML functions" layer contains the code that breaks the URL links:

If you comment out the line (and it's closing brace on Line 54) you can click on any of the top 4 menu items and it will display a list in which the URL links work. But you're not seeing the appropriate list for each menu item.

Anyone know how to rewrite this line so that it doesn't interfere with the other code? I'm baffled as to why "URL" breaks but the "client" nodes still work.

My apologies to SamataMason for borrowing their content. It's just for learning purposes.

Changing Links In The Menu
I've got a site with a flash header and it has buttons built in that go to all the different pages. The last button is the "home" button and currently it doesnt do anything at all. There is an xml file that allows me to make changes to the links.

Here is the problem -

all of the links to the other pages end with .html. The home page is just www.myurl.com as opposed to www.myurl.com/index.html or something like that. I tried changing the<link><lnk> section in the xml file for that button to www.myurl.com and it still didnt work. I'm not sure where to go from here.

I've never done anything with flash before, so be gentle.

Help With Movies In Menu & Links
Hi guys, I am working with a full flash template that I have stripped of everything bar the menu as im doing the rest in plain HTML.

The links in the menu previously pointed to other 'flash' pages but I want them to point to html links, ive got that much working, but the flash menus themselves are a little complex and work in such a way that whatever page you were on the title of that page on the menu is highlighted. Obviously this doesn't work when im changing it to point to a html page, as it doesn't 'know' which title menu to highlight.

Popup Menu Links Not Working
After following a great tutorial from this site- I have learned how to create popup menus. The trouble I'm experiencing now is regarding the actions placed on the nested button within the movie clip...

The main button launches 3 "sub buttons"- those 3 sub buttons have the basic 'on release goto and stop at frame x' action attached to it--- but that action is not working!

I have set all the buttons in the movie clip to be tracked as menu items, and it hasn't helped. I placed a different instance of one of the sub buttons on a layer of its own outside the movie clip and the same action (above) applied works fine.

can't figure it out!

i'm a flash 5 user also and I upgraded to flash mx not too long ago and wrote the action script just as I normally would. is there a difference on how click events are handled when using one object multiple times?

the script I have placed in instance (board) (symbol 3) Copy 3:

in live it not only runs the script for this instance but it runs the script for all of the buttons like I went thru and clicked all of the links at the same time from top to bottom.

Help With Masked Drop Down Menu Links
I will try to explain this. I am new to action scripts but have learned some about it. I downloaded this site template from this site awhile back and I am trying to work with it now. The drop down menus are masked (i think this is the best way to explain that). The number of links in each menu and the name of the links are controlled by actions scripting. Those action scripts were already included in the file. I have been able to see how to work with them but cant seem to figure out how to actually make them into button links.

I have already figured to change the name of the link in frame two is to change the submenu to what I want it to read the dropdowns work and the links are the way I want them but they dont allow me click them to go to a URL or a FRAME in the movie. Expanding/easing Menu Links?
I've done a couple of searches, but can't find exactly what I want. I need to make an expanding/easing menu like the one on the left of this page ....

As3 Xml Menu Links Dont Work

Help To Revise FLA (Orbit Menu / Links)
Hi!

I'm new to actionscript and still struggling to learn. I was able to download a script and incorporated it with my graphics to create an orbiting links menu. Please help me to revise the script according to these requirements:

1. What and where to add the script to make the sphere buttons link to another page? ex: home button will gotoAndplay("home.html");

2. What part of the script do I adjust to make the spheres look smaller when they appear behind the planet?

3. The spheres are rotating simply on a straight line (left to right), is there any way to make it more "3D" and rotate on an elliptical path?

4. How to make the text tags (ex. HOME, ABOUT,) appear only when someone hovers on the button? And is it also possible to make the buttons continuous feedback? The glow when you hover on the button will fade in and fadeout slowly.

Just an overview of the fla file. On the Main timeline I have a movie clip called contentHold and inside this movie clip are five movieclips called content1,content 2 etc. for the easing menu.Also on the main timeline there are 5 buttons(b1,b2,b3etc..) for linking to each section(content).
Content1 is the home page that has a news dynamic text box(called HomeNews_txt) which loads an external file with an ordered news list and aslo has a button called allNews_btn. I want to make the loaded text (each list) link to the News section(content2). to the relevant news link inside the dynamic text box(News_txt)and also when I click the allNews_btn I want go to the News(content2) section. I can make the list link to other webpages but for this purposes i want it to link inside the flash site. I've looked on the various posts within the forums but haven't found what i am looking for or maybe i missed it.The sample zip file is included.
The code for the easing menu on the main timeline is:

Context Menu On Links In Text
I was just wandering here...

If you assign a contextmenu for a textfield - it works fine aslong as the text you right-click on aint a link.
If it's a link, it shows items like "copy link" , "open in new window" etc.

So is it possible to actually edit this menu? In my CMS systems it's really pain in the arse to make failsafes for dynamic text's and menu's that use <a href or something....

Links In Menu Only Refreshing Element Not Get URL

Moving Menu With Rollovers And Links
Okay,
I've tried searching to see if I could find the thread of the guy who had this same issue, and I can't find it. I want a menu that slowly moves up or down when mouse is at the top or bottom. When you rollover one of the menu items, an image pops up on the left. You can also click on the menu item and a pdf will open in a new window. I desperately need help! I have no clue how to do this! New to actionscript.

Links Won´t Work In My Dropdown Menu
Hi.
I´m new to Flash and have been trying to make a drop-down menu, but there is a problem with the links. The animation plays just the way i want it now, but the buttons doesn´t respond to clicks. Can someon look at my .fla-file and see if they can figure it out. And by the way, the graphics isn´t done yet, this is just a draft just to figure out how everything should work.
