Links Not Working In Browser But Do In Test Movie?
Hi,

For some reason none of the links in my site work with when I preview it in the browser (IE7). They work fine when I hit ctrl + enterand test the movie in Flash though.

My links are simple buttons composed of text and have the ususal ActionScript:

on (release) {
getURL("http://www.bbc.co.uk", "_blank");
}

What is going on? Oh, and I have made sure I have already 'clicked to activate' the movie.

Please help?

New Browser Window For Links In Text Box
I'm using Flash 5,

I have links in a text box, so that when you click on them they goto a certain webpage. The links do not open in a new window, which I would like them to,.

Also the text box is a scrolling one, so i basically need to know the snytax to open a link in a new window in ActionScript.

Heres a lil bit of what it looks like:

TextBox = "<A HREF="http:\www.yahoo.com">Yahoo</A>...

That link works,

But doesn't open in a new window.

I wanted to know if there was a way to edit it directly so that it could open in a new window and so that there isn't a snytax error for the ActionScript....

When I assign some text a URL (that si external from my web site), the page will open in the same window and make me leave my web site.

Does any of you guys know how to force a separate browser windows when the link is clicked on.

SWF Links And Control Of Browser Features?

In Dreamweaver you can control the size and features of the browser window that comes up when you hit a link. I like that you can make choices like whether the browser window has controls, or a scroll bar, etc.

I have a swf file placed in my index.html file (its the whole page).
Can links in an SWF also control the browser like dreamweaver can? Where do I find such options?

Browser Loads Flash - But Links Don't Work
Why is this?

My flash page's actionscript links used to in all browsers as long as they had the plugin - now my flash loads - except the actionscript links don't work - even if my browser has the latest flash plugin. In this case, the browser just laods a new window - without the URL I specified using a button & "on_release" using actionscript.

Do you think this because of the new flash MX player reading my older flash swf's incorrectly?

Or is there something wrong I'm doing - in actionscripting or something? This is only happening to Flash 5.O swf's that I uploaded months ago. I don't get it.

Url Links Work In Standalone, But Not When Opened In Browser
I am currently using flash to create an electronic press kit. In that, i have 2 links to youtube (since embedding the videos was not an option, making the file too large), and one link to yousendit for the viewer to be able to download a pdf file.

Now when i open the swf by double clicking on it (which i can do, but when on another computer, that has flash player installed, the swf will not open unless opened through a browser....not sure if that is just something where you can open an swf strictly by itself only if you actually have flash or what....that is another issue), but anyways, when i open the swf by itself, the links work correctly. once opened through a browser, the links do not work.

Of course i did that, and it didnt happen.

My question is however, even if this is a simple security issue/setting within the browser, is there any way to get around this? Because when sending this press kit out, the last thing i want is for the viewer to have to take the time to change their browser settings and try to get this to work and all that stuff.

I am building a Flash interactive map that opens in a pop-up window from several pages on the site. This flash doc has buttons that suppose to open pages back in the window that the flash pop-up came from.

I tried all I could think of and search for days, I am, well kind of desperate please help.

Links Not Working
I have a flash movie which has 40 scenes. I have assigned a script to the links so that the scenes are interconnected (_root.gotoandStop). The problem is that some of the links do not work although the script is perfectly right and error free. Please help me urgently flash gurus or else my backside is going to land on the blade of a sword!!!

Links Not Working In IE
Hello.

I'm new to this forum. I'm starting to work in flash more..so of course I'm having way more problems.

I'm using FLash 5a, and the problem is that when I create buttons that are supposed to act as links, the links don't work on Internet Explorer. And I've tried different versions of Explorer.

Is this a known glitch? Is there a special script I should be using? please, help...

Web Links Not Working On MAC
Hey folks.

I made a CD on a PC (windows XP) that works great on a MAC (OS 10) -- except my internet links do not work on the MAC. They work perfectly fine on the PC.

Do I need to do something different with my links to create a MAC version of my CD?

Links Not Working
I'm having a bit of trouble with some links within my movie.

I haven't got the code in front of me at the minute but it goes something like...

It works fine when I run the swf file on its own, but not when I put it within a html file.
I don't have a pop-up blocker running, before you ask

[F8] Links Not Working In IE
I've got a couple of movies where the links have suddenly stopped working, but only in IE. (I've only tested this in IE7) The links work in Firefox and in the Flash Development environment. I know the links used to work in IE. Does anyone know what could have caused this? Thanks!

I have embed code that passes in the swf to use:

Two Out Of Seven Links Not Working
All of the links are just dynamic text with the link typed in there, they all are done exactly the same... Two of them dont want to work for some reason. When I check the movie and hover over the links I see the hand on 5 of the seven and no change over two.

Why would it just not work on two of them and how can I fix it? I checked the html file and the links are coded right, but they still dont show up right when I load the page.

Hey, I'm having some trouble getting these links to work, so if you could spare some of your time, that would be great. I've attached the file. On that card that you drag it says "mail" "trade" "friend". I've set those up as links, but they aren't working for some reason.

Links Not Working In IE
I have a bunch of links that open in new windows, on a flash site that i have built. They work fine in Netscape and Firefox, however in IE they don't work(oddly the ones that spawn an .swf file located in the same directory seem to work fine). Anybody encounter this wierdness before??? Any ideas??? or suggestions???

Links Not Working
Hi, I have created a navigation bar, and I believe I have it linked properly. The file looks like:

It is streched, but you get the idea. It should open a new page when you click a link, however it goes to a page called 'undefined'. You can download the file I have created by clicking:

The page the file is on has been password locked, so unfortunately I cant show you exactly what it looks like on the page. If you could look at the coding, and show me where I went wrong, I would be forever greatful.

Links/AS Not Working In IE7
So I have a file with buttons that link to external web pages, using the actionscript below.

They work perfectly in every browser on PC and Mac, except IE7.

In IE7 (on PC) when the buttons are clicked, nothing happens, as if the buttons have no ActionScript.

Any ideas why? Any solutions? This happens whether or not I use code to circumvent the "Click here to use this control" issue you get with Flash in IE.

Links Not Working
Here is the problem.

I am loading links from an xml file into an array called myLinks, and the trace code shows that the links have been loaded. But the buttons will not pick up the links in the loop.

If I were to put the links directly into the myLinks array the buttons work perfectly.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Links To Url's Via Buttons In Flash Work On Specific Browser

If you go to web design and click on the images in Safari this will redirect you to the page wanted. However does this work on all browsers as some of my friends say this does not work.

Is there a way to resolve this?

Also some browsers have a problem as the window does not pop out to full size as it should, any ideas??

OK i made a drop down menu and the problem is that the buttons work FINE when previewed in the browser and on my pc...BUT when uploaded to internet the only button that does NETHING is the button which causes the menu to drop down/up...THE LINKS DO NOT WORK...

My External Links Not Working?
alright. i made a .txt file load a file with several links in the <a href></a> tag. They load into the flash file fine. When i test my movie they work fine too. But when i put the .swf into an actual webpage, the links STOP working. How can i fix this? thanks.

Links Not Working. Please Help It's Urgent
Hi, I'm having a problem with my links on a Flash movie. This is urgent because the customer wants it done asap. The thing is that I make these links to be loaded into a scrollPane everytime you click on section Links. The links appear on the screen, and so does the hand icon when I pass the mouse pointer over them, but when I click on them, nothing happens.

These links are movie clip buttons (buttons made by means of a movie clip), each one an instance of this movie clip called arrow, and their instance names are sequencial: op1, op2, op3,...
This is an example of what I wrote so as to assign them the handler of the event onRelease:

Scroll And Links Not Working

I downloaded the file from the Kirupatutorial on how to load external text to a dynamic textbox.

If i put <a href="www.link.com">link</a> in the .txtfile, the link doesn't work, it just writes out the code!
It doesn't help to check the <>box in properties either.

I have my parent swf load a child swf witch in turn displays some htmlText, specifically a link, and the link is not redirecting the browser when a user clicks the link.

The weird thing is when I access the flash object directly (http://www.mysite.com/example.swf) the links work fine. But when I embed the flash object they don’t work. Now that’s in flash 8, I have a similar flash object that does very similar things with the text, but its in flash 7 and it works perfectly.

[F8] Links Not Working Properly
I've created a scrolling menu that should link to separate pages on the site, but when I click on the item nothing happens. This is pretty basic stuff and should work, but I'm at a loss.

An example of a link would be:

When I check the links on a local machine I get a browser window message that indicates it's looking for a page. But when I upload the files to the server and test the links in the functioning site nothing happens.

Links Not Working While Streaming MP3
Hi,

I'm stuck with a problem that I have no idea how to fix.

I have built an online music player - it streams music across using the loadSound(location, true); method and the location of the music is fed using XML.

While the song is downloading it is impossible to do anything, click something within the SWF movie, click any link etc.

I've have tried hosting the SWF file on a sub domain to see if it would make any difference, but unfortunately not.

Anyone has any ideas??! Would appreciate any help.

Links In Flash Working
I created a flash movie that has my menu bar in it with links to the various webpages in my site. I put all the links on the root folder of my site and I also put the swf file on the root folder.
When I test it in Flash, my links work. When I import it into dreamweaver as flash, then test it in Firefox or Explorer, the links don't work anymore. They show the hand symbol indicating there is a link but nothing happens when I click on it. Why would this work in Flash and not in Dreamweaver?

Links Not Working After I Add Preloader
I have been working on building my site for a couple of weeks now, adding various things as needed, and after i got all of my links working and all of that stuff i figured i would add a preloader. After i have added the preloader my links no longer work, and when i start the site it is supposed to automatically load my news page, but that is no longer working anymore either. The preloader works fine, and the main animations show up, but the links will no longer work. Does anyone know how i can fix this?

AS2 Preloader + Links Are Not Working Well :(
Guys... I've been trying to fix this and no luck Anyone here can help me out ??

What is my current problem is... my actionscript button is working very well but when i added the preloader code in there.. the link just stop working..

Why Are My Links Not Working Flash CS3
Im sure this is basic but I have been editing a flash page and none of my links are working.

For example I click on text in flash cs3 pro and I get a bar with a chain link next to it among other thing. I put the html link I want to goto when I click the text but it is still taking me to the old flash page.

Links In Flash Not Working
Hello,

I am new to flash.. I can do very basic stuff in it but i am having a small problem with URL's in flash.

I have searched around on the net for info on it and i found this

f1.onRelease=function(){
getURL("URL","_self");
}

which i have tried to use but it dose not seem to work.

What i am after is just this,

1) Flash with 4 layers
2) each layer having a different link to open up a basic htm page on a site
3) for it to repeat its self over and over.

step 1 and 3 i have done, i just cant get step 2 to work.

Any one able to help me?

each layer is just one image that "scrolls" left to right and it just needs to link, the images are done in a "Transition effect"

Is this a problem or can it still be done?

AAARRRGGGHHH Links Not Working

Popup Menu Links Not Working
After following a great tutorial from this site- I have learned how to create popup menus. The trouble I'm experiencing now is regarding the actions placed on the nested button within the movie clip...

The main button launches 3 "sub buttons"- those 3 sub buttons have the basic 'on release goto and stop at frame x' action attached to it--- but that action is not working!

I have set all the buttons in the movie clip to be tracked as menu items, and it hasn't helped. I placed a different instance of one of the sub buttons on a layer of its own outside the movie clip and the same action (above) applied works fine.

can't figure it out!
