Help With URL Encoding
Hi there,
Can anyone help with this.
I have a movie with text boxes that load in the text from a variable file.
This variable file is updatable online via a secure flash interface and a PHP script.
What I want to be able to do is enter links and things into the variables file without having to go through typing in all the URL encodings.
Is there a way of typing normal HTML code into a text box and then have Flash convert the symbols that need to be encoded for me?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Does anybody know of a link to a URL encoding list that works in Flash MX? I was working with the one on the Macromedia site:

I've got the following problem and I don't know if it's a Flash MX bug or not, maybe some of you help me to solve this strange problem:
I'm made a "Ticker" that load news from an external txt file. The news are in spanish so to allow me to use "special characters", I've followed the info indicated in Macromedia Support pages about it, I encode my txt file in UTF-8 and put the "system.useCodepage = true" in my anim.
Everything works fine so far but, the problem start here:
Most of special characters are displayed correctly, I said most because the problem starts with the & character that was load by Flash as a new variable.
Well, making some php scripting, I've convert the "&" and "%" characters to URLencode so it can be display normally.
Where I'm stuck right now is with the "¿" and the "¡" that are very commons characters in Spanish that are displays as "Á" and "À". I've tryed to make the same thing that with the "&" and "%" characters but the problem continues.
If someone got an idea about how I can solve it, or what could cause this, please let me now.

Hi all - I am having a problem w/utf-8 encoded symbols loaded via the XML object. Symbols such as the en dash and em dash do not show (dynamic text uses embedded font 'Arial'). Any ideas?

XML And UTF-8 Encoding In MX
Anybody know anything about dealing with special characters coming in from an XML feed into a flash MX movie?
Every time it reads in a special character from my utf-8 encoded XML feed, the thing breaks, causing the string variable that i'm trying to load to return undefined.
any ideas? we're checking that the utf-8 encoding is correct cause i suspect that this may be the cause of it, but if anyone's got any experience of dealing with this kind of thing, i'd be grateful for any advice.

This is my first post, and i'm already bothering you. So, i'm brazilian and here, we speak portuguese. So there are some diferent characters like á, é, ó, ô, ê, à, è, ì, ã , õ ... and so on. I made a dynamic menu that loads it contents from a MSSQL database via a ColdFusion file. The problem that a word like Vocabulário (Vocabulary) apears like Vocabul�o.
Its a encoding problem, i know, but how i solve this? i can send u the file, if necessary.

I've made a flasm menu. All links are for the same page, but different querystrings.The problem is, that some links are encoding different then the page is. The page is an ASP format, charset is UTF-8. Can I write something in Flash?

I have this one problem, I have created a news board using flash which loads all news content from .xml file. Everything works perfectly except one thing. Letters in my language (Lithuanian) is just disappearing. Is there any way i could still be using them?

I'm putting together a string of variables to spit into a cookie. The string contains characters like ^ and =. When I retrieve the cookie data it encodes those special characters. Such as, =... %2e

I'm having fun (not) using external text files with dynamic text fields in Flash. My problem is this. I need to display a trademark symbol (™) but I can't find a code for it anywhere. The standard html ™ doesn't display and using the keyboard shortcut used for normal text in flash, providing the symbol above, doesn't work either. I presume that URL encoding doesn't mention this because it's not a character used in other programming languages. Does anyone have any suggestions?

VP6 SWF Encoding
Is there a way to use the built-in VP3 video encoder to directly compress video to .SWF?
Using CS3 up until now, I've had to import the video into the flash timeline, set the FPS, then publish the SWF.
If there is no way to directly compress it, is there a "right" way of doing this?

Encoding FLV On The Fly?
Is it possible to encode FLV on the server?
ie. I want to upload a QT file, and have it converted to FLV and stored on the server.
I've rummaged around on the Flash site, but can't seem to find anything...I'm assuming this is a function of Flash Communication Server if it exists.

Get Variable From Url Encoding?
Can I set up an actionscript that will get a variable from the current url using url encoding. I know how to write the url encoding I just dont know how to get the flash file on load to look at the current url and get the variables from them. The reason I would like to do it this way is I want to use the same .swf file in several different urls that all have different url encoded variable values.

I have a simple movie displaying a dynamic japanese text in a box. I'm working on a japanese OS, windows 2000 with japanese flash 5.0. Th encoding is EUC The movie is working okay with IE, but does not work with Netscape. Does anybody experienced similar problems ? or anybody can help ?

Has anyone found a good program to URL encode text from for dynamic text fields? I love the ease of dynamic text but URL encoding it by hand especially with breaks and spaces is a huge pain. Thanks.
Url Encoding Within A Link?

I wonder if someone could help.
I have produced a screensaver which loads 5 external .html files. The files all load fine until I have a link within the external file which includes a special character. The screensaver only displays the text up until the special character (&) and drops everything else.
I am using the fillowing script to load the external file:
loadVariables ("financial_news.html", "_root.text_box");
The links with the special characters cannot be changed unfortunately.

Have anyone experience in getting special characters like É
from a SQL database to display in a flash dynamic text field?
The characters have to go through pretty many stages before
reaching the endpoint. If anyone succeeded in this I would be
happy to recieve any suggestions at all.
The structure of my system is like this:
MySQL -> (SQL) -> Java Servlet -> (XML) -> Flash
I suppose if anyone got it to work in ASP or PHP it would
help to hear how you did it.

When using text with scrollbars in Flash MX (made with ActionScript) I understand it is recommended to use URL-encoded text. But do I really have to install something like Metapad or another program to do the encoding?
Shouldn’t there be some way to do the encoding within Flash?? It is to my knowledge not possible to make such operations from within neither Microsoft Word nor any other major word processor...

URL Encoding Not Working
I have a txt file that is loading some text.
I am using the loadVar(). all loads ok but the problem I think is in my txt file.

One problem is the %2C for the comma on the macromedia it says to use %2C for the comma http://www.macromedia.com/support/fl...l_encoding.htm but it doesn't seem to work for me.
The other problem is if I place the second line of text in a newline it won't show up.

I'm having some troubles loading an XML file into flash. The problem is that I don't get special characters like æøå shown in my movie. I've tried chanding the encoding of the xml file to virtually everything. Nothing works.

URL Encoding Troubles
I have html formatted text getting placed into a dynamic text box and everything works perfectly, except that I'm trying to write this:

and I need to replace "<" with "%3c" for URL encoding, but it won't let me do it. It seems like it's replacing the "%3c" with a "<" and then treating it like it a tag bracket again. But I can do "%3e" for ">" with no problems at all.

Encoding A Number Of FLV's

I have recently been trying to convert an avi file into a number of flvs each with different custom settings. However not all of the flvs were encoded properly, they would play the whole video when imported in to a fla.
Has anyone come across this issue before and if so is there a way around it?
The settings that I used were as follows:
Dimensions: 320 x 240
Frame rate: 24 fps
Output in sorenson codec:
120 kbps
350 kbps
700 kbps
Output in on2 codec
120 kbps
350 kbps
700 kbps
The source avi was rather big at 5.9GB

FileReference & JPG Encoding
Hey,
I'd like to know if this is possible. I need to select an image file from the user's system, JPG encode it and send it to a server as a ByteArray. The encoding itself works, but I am having a hard time accessing the file itself. I have been trying to load the image into the Flash movie, but this only seems to work if I am running the movie locally and the file is located in the same directory as the Flash movie. Otherwise I can only get the file name without the full path. So, is there a way to encode the image using only the FileReference, without having to load the image into the Flash movie first? This might be the only way to do this since using PHP is out of the question.

After reading what seems to be every post on the subject I still have some general questions regarding encoding and metadata.
My Development Environment:
Flash 8 published for flash player 7
Actionscript 2.0
No MM components
I'm building a streaming (flashcomm) video application. I've encoded file_a.flv using Sorenson Squeeze 4. I've encoded file_b.flv using Flash Video 8 Encoder. I've been able to read the duration metadata from file_a but not with file_b.
My question is does Flash Video 8 Encoder inject metadata? Depending on the answer I will have some followup questions. Probably for an actionscript forum.
Dying to know my followup?... What is the best method for pulling metadata given my development environment. I've read about onMetaData with and without square brackets, using the free meta injector (which I could not get to display duration), and chased my tail all over the macromedia site/help where I kept running into MX and MX 2004 answers.

Where's My 2-pass Encoding
I've got MX2004 and 8 installed on my powerbook. I just tried to export out of Quicktime Pro an .flv, and I now no longer have an option for 2-pass video encoding in the Flash Video Exporter. Did this go away with Flash 8's video exporter?
Flash Encoding
I have several videos created in my NLE and rendered into mpg videos. Some of them I have been able to convert to a Flash Movie in flash, and others I am having problems with. I have some that have no "Video" to encode but has audio to encode. I have some that have "Audio" to encode and no video to encode. If I click on the original movie file, it will play just fine in my windows media player. Is there a way to fix this without having to recreate the movie?

I recently started posting some videos to the web, and I am going from an NTSC DV AVI capture straight to an FLV. I notice that my final FLV is a little stretched/squished and think it's probably because of the changeover from non-square pixels in the DV format to square pixels in the FLV. How do I correct for this?
Flv's Have Lines Look Bad After Encoding
I imported some QT videos into my Fla first one I used medium Flash8 400. After the encoding both in test movie and from my server the movie playsback with lines throughout even worse on pan or zoom shots. So I encoded in 700 and the result is the same. If I playback the original QT movie in QT it looks really clean.

Character Encoding
I am loading text from a UTF-8 encoded XML file ( <text style="2">From £10,000 / €15,000</text> ) and using it to populate a dynamically created html text field.
If I trace the nodeValue of the XMLNode I see both a pound sign and a euro sign but when I then set the nodeValue to populate the text field only the pound sign is displayed.
Any suggestions on how to get a euro sign to show up?

I wondered if someone could help.
I am working on an app that allows people to manipulate images and have them passed to the server to be sent or stored. I have all the basics working here and the jpeg encoded data being passed to the server etc. All works well.
However, my next hurdle is how to pass multiple encoded files in what shot? As the user can say have 5 images that they can make in one session, to create a simple animation. Is there a way of packaging multiple bytearrays up and for php to sort them out on the server?
I avent had much experience with byte arrays so any pointers would be great.

FLV Encoding Problems...
I've recently spent about 10+ hours rendering FLV videos only to discover that majority of them have major interlacing problems. I know for a fact the source video is fine as I did them myself.
I'm using the FLash8VideoEncoder that came with Flash 8. Is there something else that does it better? I've tweaked and played with several of the settings but nothing seems to work and it's kind of embarising cause my clients think my videos have major interlacing.

Is there an embeded function in flash which can decode an utf-8 encoded strings. The strings are loaded from XML.
I don't want to change the XML file because it's created dynamically with PHP and I need strings to be utf-8 encoded so PHP can read them. I've read many articles about saving a utf-8 encoded XML file with PHP, but it seems like there is a bug with PHP. So i decided to remake all the things and now I have to deal with flash.

Flash And XML Encoding
Hi there....
I'm new to flash but not new to programming so I bought SitePoint's book The Flash Anthology...
There's an example in there which I rewrote to suit my needs...
It's just plain textField which reads my RSS file(xml) and displays news...
The problem is that the RSS has Windows-1250 encoding and some characters are not shown correctly when the Flash reads the values to textArea...but if I manually(via ActionScript) enter those letters in textArea they are shown correctly...
Any help would be appriciated....

does anyone know a way to encode on the fly (server-side) an uploaded video file ? That is you are on a page, upload a video file (not flv), the file is enconded in FLV format on the server and then ready to be read inside a Flash site ? Is there a software to do that ?
