Kinda New To Flash And Stuck
Basically, I made a tab menu. On one of the tabs where you can select an Avatar, I have self made radio buttons (didn't know how to put actual radio buttons in) to select which Avatar you'd like. I've made it so you can choose up to three avatars to appear for different things, but the problem is when I click one of the buttons it selects that button, but then when I click another for a different avatar the previous one doesn't stay selected. Anyone got any ideas what I can do to fix this?

Some Flash Questions, Kinda SEO Related
Hello all,

I'm currently working on a site that is "hybrid" flash. I shall explain how the site will work and why, if there is a better approach for achieving what we need to achieve then please feel free to explain.

This thread isn't so much a "how to" but a "is there a better way to achieve this than what we are doing" kind of thread.


As far as Flash is concerned, my company is competant and understands dynamic flash but we still have a lot to learn about various specific topics.


Anyway, onto what we want to achieve and how we are currently going about it. This is for our company site by the way.


Background Music:
The site itself will have background music that can controlled using three buttons (play/pause, stop and a volume slider).

Menu System:
The menu will be Flash and will be animated.



The menu and background music player will be based in the header (which will be contained in a single Flash movie).

Content will load below it, this will be a mixture of text based content, graphics, input forms and animated content.


Now, I want the site to look good, be flash based and transition to be as seamless as possible but don't want to sacrifice our search engine entries.

The last site we build for our company was full flash, content loaded into Flash itself.

This hit our search engine entries quite bad as now all we have is an index page in search engines, none of our other content pages were indexed as they were only accessable via the main flash movie.

What we want to achieve is being able to have a flash based site that is spiderable, layout and content seperated so we can have content loaded via different pages (i.e. index.html, aboutus.html etc.).

The way I have gone about this is this:

We have several HTML pages that have different names (i.e. index.php, about.php, services.php, gallery.php etc.)

These pages call a content PHP script with a variable included (i.e. content.php?page=home), this loads a shell page and the relevent content page.

The shell page is a regular HTML with a flash header and an IFRAME below the flash header.

The content page is dynamically loaded into the IFRAME. The shell page also has some standard HTML links at the bottom that search engine spiders can follow.

The main PHP script will also control what page title, meta tags etc. are used in the main shell template.


So to confirm, we have:

Several content pages, these are used soley for recognisable page versions for search engine spiders too see and so that people can directly access a specific page by the URL.

A main content script that is called via the content page, this script has header variables passed to it from the content page, the content script loads the main site template (flash, IFRAME and IFRAME src file, and HTML links at the bottom) and inserts the appropriate meta tags.


The IFRAME source files are the actual content pages that can be HTML, Flash movies, graphics or scripts (forms).


Also, using Javascript the IFRAME automatically sizes itself to the size of the content it is displaying so there is never a scrollbar (so users won't see the IFrame as such).

The Flash menu's links will just load the relevant content into the IFRAME, so users can view the site without any transition issues and without making the flash reload and thus messing with the background music.

The HTML links will reload the page from the various source files.

So, what we should have achieved is what appears to be a "full flash" site for the most part, as many of the content pages will be flash based. But search engine spiders will be able to spider each page properly and users can access a specific page via the URL (not always dropped on a homepage).


Now, I understand you can pass values to the flash movie and control the content that way, but I am under the impression that would mess with the SEO portion and that this way would provide better results.


Anyone care to confirm whether this will work or if there is a better way.

Making A Website In Flash And I'm Kinda Stuck
Ok, here it goes

I've just started playing around in flash to make myself a new website. I want to make an online diary kind of thing. My aim is to have calendars which you click and then they come up with a diary in a designated text area. I've made the calendars and animated them a little - one for each month - and i've made a text area with a scrolling bar and everything but now I'm stuck. I don't know if this is possible, but I want to make it so that when you click on a date the text in the text area changes, as if you had designed a website using frames and the link to the text opens up in a designated frame.

I could probably do this using different scenes, but seeing I already have about 15 scenes a new scene for each date would make hundreds of scenes and that would be much to difficult to manage.

If you go to www.bicrunga.net there's a calendar thing there which is very similar to what I want to do.

Sorry if this is a confusing or stupid question, but I'm lost so I thought this was the best way to try and get help.

Flash Preloader Problem,Kinda A Newb :/
I'm kinda a newb to Flash, and I'm having a problem with my preloader.. I did attach the project.. but i'll sum up whats going on.. I have two scenes so far.. the "loadScene" wich has the Preloader and the "mainScene" wich is everything else.. on the loadScene I have two layers.. "visualUI" for the progress bar I made and "actionScript" for the action script stuff.. frame 1 is empty of script.. on the scrip layer, frame 2 i have:

Kinda Urgent Question (code Error = Frozen Flash :S), And Then A URL Question
ok, well i just tried AS for the first time, made a cool movieclip with an invisible button on top, but it looks like i've made a mistake cuz the whole thing just stopped and now my flash is frozen. if i exit, i lose my work (~20 lines) that has taken me the past 3 hours. it may be easy for you, but i really dont wanna go thru this again, so how can i stop a flash program (with hotkeys, cant click any buttons)?

second question, less urgent, but i want to combine my movieclip-button with my website, and have it so when the animation is done, it goes to a specific url. how can i code it to go to a URL? (or just tell me the order of classes i need to use, im familiar with it in java so im sure flash cant be too tough)

I am trying to create this interactive project in which I have created a whole system that I am going to animate, I have incoporated a button and when I click it (its an unlcok button), I need it to unlock the whole system, if not unlocked, then the draggable objects should not move, i.e, nothing can be unlocked. Now the question is...How do I get the lock-unlock button to work????

Kinda Technical (maybe?)
I am still new to the whole flash scene. I have been able to create a couple of flash presentations that seem to have worked fine... up until now! I just got a email from a lady who has been having trouble viewing one of my presentations. She said that after the .swf is fully downloaded she tries to watch the pres. It is a pretty simple pres. with just next and back buttons which all are linked correctly. But she said that after viewing for a while the flash pres starts all over. This never happens for me or anyone else that I know about. Any ideas? The .swf is if flash 6 format with compression. This lady's computer is Windows 98 with 64 MB of Ram which is 75% free. There is 2 GB of drive space. The Virtual Memoryis 32-bit. The Flash .sfw is 1.2MB -kind of large I know, but for what I am trying to do it is OK(at least I think it is)

Flashtyper Help (Kinda)
Hey all,
Before you get started, yes, I know. Flashtyper is terminally ill.
hehe..

My question is about the text effects that can be downloaded based on the Flashtyper SDK. I have a few of them and they awesome. But after battling with it for hours, I cant seem to figure out how to get it to work for me like I want. What I'm looking to do is create multiple lines of text, repeating the effect underneath and the timing waiting for the previous line to get about 50% finished before the next one starts. Visually, it would look like this.

The first text effect fading out as the next comes in. I'm getting close, but just about every time I get close, I manage to break the "Do not modify" movie. If nothing else, if someone could direct me to the old help files for the SDK, I might be able to discern what I’m doing wrong.

A Jukebox.. Kinda
I just recently started a clan for an online role playing game i have been addicted to and Tossed in a nice flash navi-bar and stuff.

That all works well and good. So I decided to toss in something new. a Media player which will play songs I have chosen that fit the mood, and the theme of the site. I worked on it, and worked on it, then i read the help file, and woked for 3 more days on it. and still nothing.

Now all my buttons work exactly as they should. Each song is n a different scene and the user presses forward or back to scroll through the sceens and choose a song. Then you can press play to hear it. As long as the swf site on my hard drive it works great. However, upon uploading, it fails to play the music.

Now I am very new at this. So i imported all the songs to the movis as opposed to streaming (cuz i dont know how!), this makes the file very big and a pain to upload everytime i want to test it. (I have dial up).

Aslo, i did what i was saposed t for the volume contrl and that dont work either... it slides. it just does not adjust the volume..lol

If anyone could slap me in the back of the head, then explain what im not doing that i should be, i'd be much appriciated.

i'll ask anyway. I know this had been discussed here before somewhere within flashkit but for some reason i couldn't find any answer or my computer is actually dumb! (lol).

Anyway, i'll attach a sample here and what i want it to do is, everytime i rollover the box, the symbol (diamond shape) within it would fade away till you can't see it? and when i rollout, it'd be back there again. the other blue one is my very bad attempt to do it and i know there is another easy and convenient way of doing it. I've recently had to take up Flash in the last 48 hours for work, and unfortunately I am running into a problem that I hope I can get some help for here.

I've been looking around, and apparently, making duplicate scenes is a bad idea, which I know now. Since I duped a scene, it throws errors when I save it out.

So, I am kind of lost as to how to setup the site. I had wanted to create a template for the pages and just swap out images and text. It seems the best way to do this is to make my scene into a MovieClip and then just modify copies of those. Right?

If I'm on the right track, this is what I need help with. How do I code the buttons to do the following:

On release, play transitionX, on the end of that - then swap out movieclipA for movieclipB and play on frame 20.


Any help would be most helpful, running out of time and frustrated.

I kinda know flash because they made us learn a little bit of it. What I want know is there a way for me to make a fully functional chess game? I did a google search and came up with nothing, and then did a forum search and came up with very confusing stuff.

I'm making a Harry Potter website, and I thought it would be cool to have a wizards chess thing. I'm coding the site in PHP, so would there be a way for the user to "submit" their scores to a top 100 list and get gold for it (The HP website will be kinda similar to Neopets and Gaia Online)

I'm really quick at learning stuff like this if someone has a tutorial or could write up instructions.

Kinda Newbish Help Plz
Hello all, I thought I would come to the experts and ask for some help. I design small flash movies for my wife's real estate site and they usually just consist of the same exact layout. 4 pictures that fade in and out kinda like a slideshow and they have a top and bottom title. I can get into specifics if and when needed, but I was wondering if I am basically starting out each FLA with the same raw materials (I.E. four standard digital photo's shrunk to the same exact pixel depth before importing them into flash mx) how is it that one movie is 268k when exported and another is 770k? Is there some sort of bug that I am not aware of or something odd going on? Again I know some people are going to say post more info we cant help with that little info, and I will if need be, just tell me what info to include. Thanks in advance talk with you all soon.

It is crazy choppy and he always seems to veer to the left more than the right. Also, I put a wall (in this case a line) to its left so that when he hits it he goes right and the code I put for that is,

I was working on trying to set a mask to a loaded image, reguardless of what size the image was. I thought about using the tweenClass and the onLoad listener together and this is what I came up with. Not as cool as some of the other mask transitions, but it may help someone out.
Get 2 jpgs and name them test and test2 and put them in the same directory as the swf.

okay after doing flash for a lil bit im a bit confused.. it seems like this stuff is mostly for graphics moving around and stuff like that. Now my question is.. is it better off to make a site complete with flash or one that uses a header flash and the rest are html..And if i go with the header flash & rest HTML how do i connect the flash button menu so that it opens a page in my html. i dont know if i make any sense any help will be good thanks. i got a problem .. with a project im workin on.. was wondering if maybe someone here could help me out.

here's how it is.

im a student studying Multimedia Design.. atm im workin as a temp at a golf simulator company (www.protee-united.com ) anyway..
ive been asked to create the simulator itself in 3d.. and for the internet site..so that customers will have a full 3d look at it.. and be able to click on pieces of it to get more info etc..
Well so far i have created the whole thing in 3Ds max.. but my prob is.. im not that good in flash.. and was wondering if anyone here could show me where to start or give me some idea's on how to approach this.

I thought of maybe making 6 renderd movies of turning around the simulator so that u can go back and forth in flash.. and maybe be able to make it interactive for each 60 degree view.. or something to that effect. and interactive i mean like.. u can mouse over different parts of the simulator and get info about it..or maybe even click on it and get a little 3d 360 video of it ( pop up ).

well i hope im postin in the right place.. if not.. could u maybe advise me where to go for help??

HETTEST Placement.. Kinda

This code is on a character, i'd rather not place a second object inside of the character and then put code on that. Is there a way that I can specify if "" hits objects? like it's on the character, but i have a clip called "Feet" on the character, so can I change that code to say if (_root.character.feet = _root.objects.hittest bla bla bla)
to where it has to hit the feet? My characters head keeps triggering the HITTEST.

Also, if i do put a code inside of a MC inside of another MC to hittest objects on the ROOT and then if HITTEST Fails then it walks _root.character, why doesn't this work?

i need to create image maps in flash from sets of coordinates stored in an external file...i just dont know how to create an object (that responds to onclick events) over a picture from scratch...

Kinda Simple If Statement

i have a list of buttons and what i wanna do is when any button is pushed to go to a frame and play an animation (the same frame no matter what button was pressed) i can do that easy enough, however after the animation is played i then what to go to another frames depending on what button was pressed, i know i need to use the if statement with something like... if(button == home)
{goto home}
if(button == contact)
{goto contact}
etc
except im not sure what i put in for "button" and what i put in for "home" and "contact" etc.

can anyone help me?

I'm creating a photoalbum in flash. Everything works just nice but now I want flash to make a button on my page for every picture on my server ... well this is how i planing on doing this:

First I have a textfile "images.txt" including a variable: images=x (x= how many pics there are on server)

then I'd like flash to create a clickable button, for each number loaded from textfile, on the homepage.
So if images=15 then it should create 15 buttons.
When I click on one of the buttons a movie (image as a swf file) loads into the flashdocument (each button assigned to a specific swf-file). Do I make sense?

Well how am I going to do this??

I'm trying to make a program with Swish, that has a splash screen, then moves to new scene. Then from that scene, it branches off to other scenes (each with their own content), based on which button the user pressed. I'm not sure how you can make a button go to a certain scene though.

Kinda Like Matrix Effects...

I want to create a movie that is displaying a computer...
The computer should have the text written by a: _ , However, I want to use a script so that it writes all the text I want, so I don't have to keep creating the text.
Is it also possible to make it write the text at different intervals...

Kinda like the matrix effects or computer effects where a text is written in green n it looks like the computer is typing it...
Does anyone also know how to make a clock in the corner, so it acts like a countdown...

Kinda A Multiple Rollover

Kinda Strange Problem, Anybody?
i noticed that if you go to my site (www.analogsubculture.com) on a mac with os X, (i haven't tried any other mac os because i do not own a mac) the calendar in the lower right hand corner just does NOT appear, you see the text: august 2003, but no orange hexagons! I tried this on 2 different systems, both had flashplayer 6 installed.... every pc i've seen it on works fine though...

I have 4 button-like movie clips. When users choose button 2 and 4, a dynamic text "Congratulations!" will turn up.

I would like to make an effect once somebody picks the correct buttons, those correct or incorrect buttons will be made disabled (still visible but not clickable).

A Kinda Silly Question
Im new to fash, using Flash 5.

While ive been scripting, ive notice the use of _root alot, the tihing is Im really not sure of the purpose of this what it actually does could someone explain to me simply what it is so I know when to use it and when not to.
