Flash :: Updated And Can't Open Files

Flash Does Not See My Updated .as Files On A Server
Hi,

I have a flash app with many .as files. When I change one of them and resave it to the server and then refresh the flash app, it does not see the new .as files.

In IE and FireFox I have deleted my cache and history but the flash app is still reading an old .as file. Is there a way to have flash always look to see if any.as files are new?

Open Pdf Files Causing IE Window To Open And Crash
On a macintosh OSX, when trying to open a pdf using:

getURL(./somePDF.pdf")

this command opens a pdf document correctly but also opens Internet Explorer. Sometimes this causes a problem because it crashes IE and forces it to quit.

Is there a way to open PDF documents using flash that doesn't open an IE browser window on mac OSX?

Hi, I'm having a panic as I can't open quite a lot of the files on the site I'm working on, they're coming up with the following message...

"There is not enough memory to open this scene. Your document is not damaged and may be safely saved.

To increase available memory, close open documents or quit and use the Get Info command in the Finder to allocate more memory to Flash."

...and then Classic and Flash quit. It's happpening on both my Macs and both have plenty of RAM allocated to Flash so I doubt that's the problem. I've tried turning off as many fonts as possible as I know that can cause problems in Flash but it didn't help matters.

Using Flash 5.0a / G4 PB 500 / 512mb Ram / OS 9.2.2 on 10.1.5 and Flash 5.0a / G4 Desktop 350 / 832mb Ram / OS 9.2.2 on 10.2.6

Does anyone have any experience of this problem? Know any clever fixes? Can suggest a decent sized bridge / tall building to jump off in the London area?

I have created a presentation where flash uses the GetURL command to open a pdf file. This works fine on the PC, but the mac can not open the pdf is there a different command I should be using?

I can't open some fla files I have downloaded (for exemple fade.fla (in another posted message). The message says: format file don't expected (I translate from Spanish). Can you imagine why?

SWF Files Won't Open
Hello Everyone,
Yep, I am a Flash newbie but I am eager to learn and I'm glad to join you.

Okay, my question: How do I deal with SWF Files that won't open?

I have a Mac Mini and I am using Studio 8. When I create a SWF file, that original one will open right up. But, when I email it to someone, it won't open.
It says SWF but has that orange Illustrator logo look to it.

I'd say, in general, I currenlty can not open SWF files. All the SWF files that come in those graphics magazines, for instance, I can not open. They say SWF but look like Illustrator files too.

Hope this is a common problem that can be easily corrected.

I have seven projects in different folders on the same drive.
Each folder contains numerous progressive saves of each project as it was developed.
Files of all the projects except one are just fine.
But ALL the files of ONE folder won't open.
I don't see how only that one project's files could have been corrupted.
More likely that the OS or Application environment is now somehow different than before -- in a way that doesn't satisfy the needs of that particular project.

How 2 Open Files In A Mainframe?

I am unable to open the fla files which I have downloaded from the flashkit.com website in the .zip formats. As I try to open these files in Flash5, I receive the message "Unexpected file format" and the Flash closes.

I'm a beginner and need help! My problem is trying to open a pdf using the getURL function. The pdf file opens fine when a web browser is already open on the machine, but does not open if web browser isn't open. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Hi, I would like to create a button which when clicked, will open an external file in the route folder of the flash file. So the button could open a text file, or .pdf etc – as if you clicked within windows explorer.

Hi,

I have 3 fla files published as flash and html. Now I have saperated the swf files and the html files in two different folders called "swf" and "html".

There is a button on each fla which opens the next html file from the html folder.

eg. This is a code written on button in fla1.

on(press)
{
getURL( "../html/two.html" );
}

This code dosn't work. Will it work? because the swf and html files are in different folders.

Any idea?

Anyone has a code to open a pdf file? Basically I have buttons that should open pdf files on specific page numbers. I heard that there are 2 ways, one is to open it in a browser, and the other with acrobat itself less the browser - please provide both options.

Also, if there is a scenario like ButtonA pressed opens pdf1 on page 5, then ButtonB pressed and opens pdf1 on page 6 - would 2 pdfs be opened or just the same pdf (provided it is still open) and referenced on a different page?

I am new to action scripting and was wondering if anyone could tell me how to open up an external file form the Flash movie. What I am trying to do is make it so that if you click on a link it will open up a .doc or .txt file. I need to do this with several diffrent files. I also was wondering if people could tell me how to make it so that when i click a button it will open up another .swf that has a FLV player that i modifyed, but in a seperate window. Help would be much appreciated.

I was desperately hoping someone could direct me as to how to resolve the painful issue of being unable to open any .fla file in Flash MX 2004. Unless the file was created in Flash MX 2004 any fla file I try to open comes back with the "Unexpected File Format" error. It's about to drive me ca-ca-crazy!

I have Flash MX 2004 pro and Flash 5. When I download zipped .fla - files I can't open them in either versions of Flash. First I thought it had something to do with the .fla - file that maybe was formed with an older version of Flash. But it doesn't seem to be like that either. How To Open FLV Files Directly?
Is there a way to open FLV files directly in an adobe problem? Hopefully I'm missing something here, but it seems like there is no way to directly open an FLV file; you have to embed in a swf/fla or use a 3rd party program. Am I wrong? Can you do this with any adobe players?
