I have already posted this to another forum in Flash Kit - but I am not sure if I posted in the right forum. I have a question about a special effect in Flash
I came across a site that had a very nice effect in which I have no idea how they did this. The site is http://www.focusonfinance.nl/ I was hoping someone could help me figure out how they did the effect of how the pictures come in with this light. Each link that you click on or page you go to a new picture comes up - but with this awesome light that brings it in. Does anyone know how to begin to even do this? Please help!!

Special Effects With ActionScript?
I was wondering if someone can help me with. If you could have a look at this site's intro:

I was wondering if it is possosible to make an actionscript to make those effects in the intro of the dpa.co.uk site. But have some sort of a template so that if I every change or add new text in my site I don't have to do a lot of changes or add new code to my fla file. In other words if I add a new word or letters to my library I can just apply an actionscript with those effects to the words or letters. I hope I have explained myself clear enough. So I am wondering if this is possible? if yes How?

Special Transition Effects
Hi,

Having started using Flash a week or 2 ago and trying all kinds of effects, i was wondering how people do those nifty drop down curve mask effects i see here and there. Since i cant even draw a perfect curve using the design tool (do i just suck, or can it be done ? , i figured it had to be coded. So using actionscript (lineTo(), curveTo(), ...) i tried to mimic the effect.

Needless to say this way leaves little room for doing extra tween effects or little tweaks. I cant imagine this is the way to go, as flash seems more of a design tool then a coders tool.
So how DO others do it ? Same as me, or are they using something else then Flash ? (i checked out swish, but it didnt seem to be able to do shape tweens).

I have a vector graphic of a flag on a pole. I want the flag to move as though the wind was blowing. Does anyone know if this can be done with a special FX in Flash?

Or if you have any other suggestions on another way to accomplish this, without spending thousands on software, I'd sincerely appreciate it. The flag is below... many thanks.

Using Functions For Special Effects
Hey,

I am making a script to flick through some images in an album.

The location of the images are written in an xml file, which is read by the script.

Then the script displays each image with a 3 second delay between images.

So far i have everything working.

I want to be able to have a user controlled transition effect between images.

eg, in the xml file they can say they want a fade in/out effect or swipes or they want it to grow from nothing to full size.

I was wondering how i would be able to do this, would i read the effect name and call a function or what??

I've been playing with your excellent snowflakes tutorial, but i was wondering if there was a way to make the snowflakes fall behind other objects?

I place like boxes.etc on the layers above the snowflakes / code yet when i text / make movie they flakes always appear over the top, any ideas?

What's This Special Effects Called?
Hi, I had visited some cool flash sites and seen some of the sites start initially a blank page and then we could see the drawing/illustrate in action. So what this technique called? Is it an advanced masking technique or they are using drawing API comes with Flash MX for this?

If you look at the the street lights at the top they draw the outline and then the image fades in.

I would like to learn this technique for developing my upcoming new site but already searching it in google for almost whole day So if you know what this technique called or have any info/tutorials site for it pls provides it to me.

Special Text Effects
Theres a few text effects that I've seen that are very cool.

1. The words drop down and bounce, each lettter individually

2. text letters appear 1 after another, like a typewrigher

Is threre a tutorial anywhere on how to do this stuff, I know how to do it the long frustrating way(Making a movie clip for the text and indivudually editing every movement) but is there a better way to do these?

How do you make something flash? Like, instead of:

eww, that's an yucky explanation, but.. uh... like a movie clip to flash a lil as it plays, how do I do that?

Another thing, is there any techniques as how you would manuver your camera? Or, make it instead of just a movie, make it look like you're actually zooming further into a location (so pretty much 3D)?

Newbee & Special Effects, Please Help
I was trying to create a 3 (or 2?) frame movie (has just 2 photos like the one I saw on the header at this page http://www.athinapalace.com/main.html (top left) with the same effect (sort of white lines moving across on the 1st frame and the box effect on the second frame), can some one help me with some advice and how I can achieve this?

However, I would like my movie to loop infinitely, the one on this page I guess stops after loading.

Special Effects - Smash Through Glass
I was watching the xiao xiao movie (see link below), and I was wondering how to recreate an effect that's in it. It's where the stickman jumps through a glass window (it's about 3/4 of the way through the movie).

I tried recreating it with motion/shape tweening - firstly drawing the scene, then when the camera moves round the window I moved the position of the scene and skewed it at an angle. But the problem with doing that is that it does not fill the whole of the stage. And you can't edit it as it will edit the first part of the tween aswell.

Secondly, when the glass actually smashes, I have no idea how to go about it.

Any ideas?

Where Can I Find Some Good Special Effects Tuts

I realy dont get whole picture how others out there doing sometning that is so good for the eyes. These special image manipulation effects is sometnihg that i never try within flash.

Tutorial For A Slide Show With Special Effects In MX

I am looking for a tutorial on a Flash MX slide show. I want the picutres to load almost instantly as at the following url:

The only problem with this slide show is that at the end, it goes to a cream slide before starting over. Is there a way of making a slide show seamless at the point where it repeats?
I have the instructions for building this slide show. It almost does what I want..fades into the first slide, then dissolves into the next and so on. BUT, when it goes to the end of the sequence, it abruptly jumps to the start again. That ruins the effect! I am half way through Lynda Weiman's book and have done the slide show in it but what I am looking for is something a bit more artistic and without control buttons.

Transition Effects Between Movies...
Instead of using movieclips, I am using individual movie files for each section of my site, so I was wondering if it was possible to make transition effects between *.swf files and the loadMovie action.

Effects On Loading/unloading Movies
i'm trying to get my different .swfs to fade in and out instead of just appear in place of eachother. example, i call 1.swf from a button1 and it has frame 1-10 of alpha tween in, then frame 15-25 is an alpha tween out. button 2 calls that frame 15 with

_level1.gotoAndPlay(15);

and it fades away. question is how do i pass the new .swf name for button2 so the process repeats for all my buttons? i'm thinking it's some global property to send from the button like _new = 2.swf ?

Time/Date Effects On Movies
Like I've said every post, I'm a crazy mother @#%&er who doesn't try anything easy. On several sites, I've seen the background change according to the date and time of the computer that's viewing the site. How do I...? Exactly. Like if I have a site that's featured to look as if it's outside, and morning it's a sunrise, afternoon it's just bright, and evening there's stars, how do I use (maybe a Date/Time function) to get this to work? On this site and others there's source files that provide scripts for gathering the Date/Time just to display it. Well how to I use such a script to display (instead of the date/time) a time-sensitive graphic?

When I think of something easy to do, I'll ask about it, in the mean time, here's to the brain-farting hard sh*t.

I think I need another beer.

I'm new to Action Script and have got as far as using a loader class to play the first movie. I can't then test for completion of this movie to trigger load and play of the next SWF. Controlling Flash Movies From Within Other Flash Movies, Contained With Frames...
ok, the title was a bit of a mouthful but hey, i was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this problem :

i know how to control content being loaded into frames, from within a flash movie (using get url) but, i'm not sure how to go about calling various parts of a flash movie that is situated within a different frame with the html page, from the one it's being called from.

so, for example, say i have a set of buttons within one flash movie, that when clicked moves the timeline in the other flash movie (within a different frame) to frame 5 or whatever. see what i mean?

would it be something like this?

on (release) {

getURL("name of html page.html", "name of lable/ number of frame within timeline", "name of frame flash movie is contained within");

Special Characters From Asp To Flash
I've got a little problem on which I've been rushing all day long !

It's about special characters loaded from an asp page. The string loaded in flash produced by an asp page looks like this "QtyAnswer=5&sQuestion=%C0+quel+moment", and was perfectly running before I switched to MX.

You can see that the first character in the second variable that is loaded is "%C0", result from a URLEncode of the character "À".

When it comes to my flash, there is no more trace of this character ("À"), it is replace by a square ("�").

I tried everything ! I read all posts... no one solve my problem ! HELP ME PLEASE !!!!!

Special Characters In Flash MX
We’ve got a problem loading text from a text file into a flash movie. To display special charaters, we use the codes from Macromedia, http://www.macromedia.com/support/fl..._encoding.htm.

Signs like + en % are displayed correctly, but the character à isn’t, instead the flash movie displays [] when we use Macromedia’s code for that character. Furthermore we want to implement an Euro-sign (€), for which no code is given by Macromedia.

Does anybody know the solution to these two problems (the “à” en the “€”)??
