WAV Files Stuttering
I have created a number of WAV files for a phone-like interface - press a phone button, and a sound emits much like your standard phone.
My problem is, after I have imported the sounds into the library, when I test them, they "stutter" - it's like they start, stop, and restart really rapidly - very annoying. They stutter when I "Test" them in the properties box (double-click on the sound in the library), when I am testing the movie, and even in the resulting SWF. HOWEVER, when I play the sounds in the library preview window, they do not stutter. Furthermore, I have experimented with other WAV files on my machine - same problem.
My machine: 266, PII, 160 MB (I know, it's old)
My OS: Windows ME (Don't laugh, I'm having a ***** of a time getting rid of it)
Other platforms I have tried it on: Windows 2000 (PIV, 1G, 256 MB)
Sounds recorded and manipulated with "Creative" sound card and their usual software.
Any help is greatly appreciated,

Stuttering Animation
I`ve seen this alot with flash and have never managed to solve it. A simple peice of animation of a fish only 7k moving across the screen . The frame rate is set to 20 fps and lasts only 100 frames.
I would have thought this would make the animation aprox 5 seconds long and yet the animation takes nearer 30 seconds ,the frame rate drops and the animation stutters. Is there a way to solve this ????

Movie Is Stuttering Please Help
Hello ya'll! This is my first post as I am brand spankin new to Flash. My question may be very elementary, but, here it goes. When I test my movie in either html or in falsh, It stutters really bad. By that I mean the whole movie is slowed down dramatically. When I play it in the actual program, it is fine. My frame rate is set at 24 (hope that's OK). Another thing I have noticed is that it only happens during the tweened sections of the movie. Once the tweened sections have passed, it's fine and shoots back up to 24fps. Any help would awesome and I'd be greatfull! Thanks in advance.

Stuttering Flv Playback
hey, I'm using relativily large flvs at 800 x 450. Their bitrate in video encoder is set to 1000kbs and the audio is set to 96kbs stereo. These videos where originally compressed from final cut with h264. There are pretty short and are all about 2 - 4 mb once converted to flv.
Some people are having problems viewing these videos saying that the video is stuttering at times and that the CPU goes as high as 50% on a core 2 duo machine. From these video specs is that what i would be expecting?

Video Stuttering
Interactive Hula Tool
We've been having a lot of trouble with the video playback in this tool. We created a version of this a few years ago and it was ok, but when we updated it for AS2, the video playback became jerky.
Drag any of the first three words over and hit the "dance" button. The video works fine when the mouse isn't in motion, but when you move the mouse it causes the video to stop or stutter. This happens mainly in IE7 on a PC but can also appear in any browser. Anyone seen an issue like this?

Stuttering Animation
I have created an animation in Flash 8 with a lot of pictures and sound. The animation is serious compressed (jpeg's to 30 and audio to 48 kB/sec) and is now 315 kB including the preloader. The compression is done by Flash when you save the .swf file.
Some users sees the presentation good but others sees a stuttering animation. The problem occurs in IE and Firefox, so it's not browser related. The stuttering begins when the word 'gezelligheid' is coming on the stage. Normally when the animation works as expected the music is done when the animation is done but because the stuttering this is not working.

Why Is AS Movement Stuttering?

Stuttering Animations
I have two alpha fades happening at the same time and the animation keeps stuttering. It seems like a perfectly simply thing to do and I'm sure there are sights that use far more animation effects than this.
Are there any tips on keeping all the tweens happening smoothly?

Blurry, Stuttering, I've Got Issues Help
I'm fairly new to this flash world. I put together a flash version of my portfolio but i'm running into several problems. My images turn out so blurry once i import them into flash. i've tried importing them at different sizes and i still get the same results. They look great before i import. 72 dpi, rgb, jpeg's. Is there some secret i should know? please help!!!
second, it seams that my movies stutter, and always at the same part of the movie. i thought it was coz the SFX but i removed them and no change. is there a trick to making your movies run smoothly?
third, sound effects: sometimes they sound syncs up with the movement, sometimes some of the SFX don't play at all. I don't get it.
i was using flash 4 until i got mx in the mail yesterday. should this upgraded version solve my problems?

Animation Stuttering Problem?

scroll to the section labeled "contact". The last frame of the contact section where the placeHolder clip moves into place "pauses" just before settling. Hard to explain, but if you test the movie, you'll see what i mean. How can i fix this delay? This is the only one that has this problem..

Stuttering Flash Movie

Stuttering Movie Clips
I have made a movie clip with images fading into each other. When these images fade up and fade down, the image appears to stutter a little before the transition.
ie. my fades are not smooth and seamless.
Its like when it tweens it exentuates the frames in between.
Is this normal? how can I prevent it?
My script:
alpha 0%
motion tween to 100% alpha
with 20 frames between 0 and 100 roughly.

Audio Stuttering On Cd-rom...FIXED
ok if you are having problems with audio stuttering on your cd-rom project there is a fix. first lets be sure that you are having these problems:
-opening swf movies into your exe file causes your audio to stutter.
-this happens randomly but always when you first open the swf.
-it won't always be the first movie you load either. like i said it happens randomly. sometimes sooner, sometimes later but it always happens.
-it will continue to stutter and eventually slow down until the movie stops.
-if you close/unload the swf movie that is stuttering all sound stops throughout the cd.
-the only way to get the cd to function normally at that point is to restart it.
-your cd runs fine on all win os except xp and 2k
if most or all of the above is true you need to update your flash mx files. the problem is related to a bug in flash...but for more info on the issue go to: http://www.macromedia.com/support/fl...o_stutters.htm

Slow/stuttering Swf Playback -please Help
I have an swf file with four buttons-each playing a movie clip with a frame by frame animation. When I click on button one (immediately after exporting from the FLA file so this is the first time the swf has been tested), my animation plays slowly - often stuttering. But, if I click on the other buttons (and experience the same problem) and go BACK to button one, the frame by frame plays perfectly. This is the same frame by frame that stuttered the first time I tried playing the file. The swf file has not been closed and opened again: it simply plays better after I go through some of the other buttons. The other buttons behave the same way. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong? Streaming FLV Stuttering During Buffer
I am streaming FLVs from FMS2 using NetStream objects.
I set netStream.setBufferTime(10)
When I call netStream.pause(false) I find this happens:
1. user unpauses.
2. flv stutters
3. buffers
4. flv stutters
5. playback resumes.
This set of events is fairly consistent, as far as I can see. When the flv is unpaused, the video always skips. Also, just before playing back, the flv always skips again.
Occassionally, I find the video plays back without buffering!! The buffering does happen, because I get all the status retirns back... except the video plays. Strange.
Anyone got any ideas to help with getting smooth playback?

Why Is My Final Swf So Slow/stuttering?
Need help cause Im going out of my mind.
I have created a webpage with some frame by frame animations and
I've tried it in Flash at different simulated download speeds and it works perfect.
But when uploaded to internet it runs like slowmotion in both Firefox and IE
To be honest Ive never seen any flash movie run that slow.
To make sure the whole file is fully loaded Ive put all content on frame 2 and a
preloader on frame1. Same thing when previewed in Dreamweaver.
The file is 150kb which shouldnt be to big
I used 30fps originally but also tried 20fps but problem is still there.
Is Flash Player in Firefox and IE that much slower than regular Flash player
if you open up the file from your harddrive?
Any tips cause Im considering to never touch Flash again :(

Help: Stuttering Sound In FLV Player
Hi,
I have built a custom flv player for use in web pages and it works fine and dandy on some PC including min but on some PCs the sound stutters (mainly on IE, FF seems fine). This happens even when the vid is fully buffered. Have also had reports of high CPU usage when flash running (Not even playing the vid) but not certain of that. I attach the fla (flash 8) and related files.
Any help or advice would be appreciated!!!!

MediaPlayback Component Intermittent Stuttering
I'm creating a very simple .mp3 player in Flash 8. When the user selects one of four audio files, I set the contentPath of the component instance to the .mp3's filepath. There's also a button that plays/pauses the .mp3 using the myInstance.play() and myInstance.pause() commands. For the most part, it works fine.
However, sometimes when the user pauses the .mp3, then selects a different .mp3, the audio begins to stutter repeatedly; it plays a very short (less than one second) snippet of the audio, then keeps repeating this snippet.

OnRollover Causing Stuttering Effect
I am building a little xml driven photo gallery using 'fuse' to create the animations for the thumbnails onRollOver / rollOut events.

So when you roll over a thumbnail it should straighten and scale up 200%, problem is this doesn't happen smoothly, it judders, like the rollover and rollOut events are being called really fast until it settles on the Rollover. The effect happens slightly differently each time, and occasionally not at all.
If you click on the logo after the images have loaded they should organise themsleves into rows. The rollOver rollOut problem still happens but it seems to be less obvious.
Anyone else encountered this problem? Any ideas what it might be, I've been banging my head against my desk for 24 hours now.

Image Is "stuttering" When Being Moved...
I guess it should be quite simple:
I have a background picture and on top of that I have a smaller picture that appears, move a little to the side (very slowly) and disappears again. The problem is that the little picture is kind of shaking while it moves.
Its not moving alone but whith a couple of white lines (they crossed each other to reveal the smaller picture between them, move with the picture, and "erase" it again)
The frame rate is 24 fps.
I have tried making the part with the picture and the lines a mc. The pictures are imported as png, made symbols, breaked apart and alpha set at 99 %.
I have checked the swf on different computers.
Can anyone help?

Retaining Order Of Files Loaded Externally From Large XML Files

I was messing around with some old examples, and I ran into an unfinished example where several 30k-100k XML files are loaded and stored as a string into an Array. The code looks basically like:

Basically, when I trace the 'this', the order of the files that are loaded is off. Out of about 10 tries, about 3 times the order is perfect. The remaining 7 times, the order is a bit off. Does anybody have a suggestion on how to ensure the files are loaded prior to the next file being loaded?
I tried placing a while loop that basically delays the clock for a few milliseconds, and that didn't work either. Besides, that is not really a good solution to arbitrarily waste clock cycles. I am guessing some sort of a listener might be needed, but that is where I've hit a wall

Targeting External Files To Text Files In Flash

I am developing a flash site for a movie company and it needs to be 100% dynamic! and must be flash 5 compatible
To put things as simply as I can here goes.
I have a directors page - on this page I have two text fields.
The first text field pulls all the directors names from an external file called directors.html, In this external file I have html hyperlinks which link to each directors bio text (in another external text file), what I want to do is basically target the second text field in flash. i.e. when you are in flash and click one of the directors names his info must appear in the adjacent text field.

Loading External Text Files With Links To .swf Files
i am loading a external text file with html links. I would like to know if anyone out there know how to make those links load .swf files, that would work with the levels hierarchy of the original level0 file. I tried passing a variable that would be detected by a movie clip on EnterFrame but no success, maybe I had written something wrong. Loading just the swf file will replace the html page on the browser.

1) I have my movie www.web.com/web.swf that reads the contents of the file www.web.com/news.txt. The file is supposed to contain different notes referring to updates of a site (just an example)
2) Flash loads the text in a variable, right? How can i split it, considering i use as a splitting string something like "|splithere|"
3) How can i hold each update-note in a variable, like when i`m duplicating movie clipes, for example update1 should be held in u1, update 2 in u2 and so on... (or as visual basic used - i`m and ex vb'er - u(1) u(2) and so on)

Explorer Type View Of Files Sending Files
I'm building a website to enable a kind of online music jam session. The user will choose music files stored on their computer to be uploaded to other users' "shared folder" (eg. c:mysharedfolder on user1 to c:mysharedfolder on user2 - similar principle to Kazaa I guess).
How do I display a list of the files contained within the users "shared folder" (like windows explorer)?
Secondly, is it possible to send someone a file directly to their "shared folder"?

Problem Importing Flash Files Or Captivate Files
I have Flash MX and am having problems importing Captivate files or flash files that I have exported from Captivate. When I import a flash file from Captivate it will fill in the keyframes but there is nothing on the stage. Everything is in the library but it kind of defeats the purpose for it to not be on the screen.
The other option is to export from Captivate to Flash; however, when I try to do that it tells me I need Flash MX 2004. I do...it's just not seeing it for some reason.
Anyone have any ideas?

Flash, Loading Files & Temp Internet Files
Hi guys,
I have a problem with files getting stored in the Temp folder of a client's machine.
When I host an SWF file on a site, that swf file gets downloaded to the client's (in this case , my) machine in the Temporary Internet Files. Now, if that same SWF is loading a text file or an XML file stored on the server to read data, using either LoadVars.load() or XML.load() method and a relative URL as path, that text or XML file also gets stored in the Temp files of the client machine.
I wanted to know, is there a way to prevent the text files and XML files from getting downloaded to client machines ? Or is that the way the load method works ?
If the swf files has a need to make repeated loads of the same file, will it read from this downloaded file or will it make repeated calls to the server ?
Please tell me if I can clarify the problem more.

Local Files And Creating Outside Text Files
I have two problems.
1: I can't get Flash to link to a local file instead of a website. How do you do it!!
2: I have been trying also to make Flash create a text file. I know how to make Flash load one, but I want it to create one. Is there any way to do this!?!

Multiple External Text .txt Files In Different Swf Files
I'm trying to have several external files (txt or html) attached to a several swf flash files, loading in different levels of one main movie, for easy updating.
Example is: loadVariablesNum("ext-track.txt", 0);
This I can do, partly working.
Say you click the button for "about" that loads that flash file (in a layer), it fails to load in the relevant external file (the movie loads just not the external text file).
When you open up the "about.swf" on its own, it loads up the external file no problem. It just fails to do it when I am loading it from the main swf movie file that then loads this in a layer.
I can get all the text files working by putting in all the loadVariable parts in the main movie but I need them put into their relevant swf movies.
Does that make sense?
How do you correct, something to do with layers or targetting? I'm sure it'll be easy for you guys, Actionscript ain't my thing.

Text Files Controling Flash Files?
I was looking at some flash templates (older ones from 2002-2003) and they had .swf file controled by text files. Like the pages where you would have to edit in flash to put text..... they had text files labeled the same as the page in the flash file and u could add the text there and it would appear automatically in the flash file. How do i do that??????

FLASH - Flv Files & Importing External Files
Note: this is trying to be done all in Flash... please be patient as I have to explain it...
Here's the scenario... I am currently building a website for a coffee company, and as an introduction to their website, they want to play a short clip of 16 seconds, size 350x250 - fine... The real problem is that I have been asked to make it appear as if it was actual footage on TV - in effect, at super high quality with NO (and I mean, NO) Pixelation... very stringent, but they think I can somehow push the boundaries and work something out!! Also they wish for it to play as soon as the website begins (no chance of preloading!!) - without an option for the user to control the film (as in no play/stop/rew buttons, etc.)
In order to create this, I had to use Final Cut Pro - as this was the only program that passed the 'test' for what was asked... the client has a major issue with the 'fade' to black sections of the film - believing them to look as if they are shimmering (this also being the initial problem with building it directly in Flash). I passed this through all types of compression to achieve the smallest possible file (12MG) - and then from Quick Time Pro - I came up with an immaculate looking, but incredibly large flv file - using the export feature. Total... 82MB, yes MB...
Please note, I am fully aware of compression, but have to iterate this incredible request!!
Rather than attach it to the timeline in Flash, I placed the created FLV file in the same folder and requested on the first line of the timeline - through Actionscript - that it plays the FLV 'progressively'. To my understanding, this file should play whilst not having to load up before hand... (learnt of this from Macromedia website.)
I have seen this method used in a few tutorials, but admittedly the file sizes are approximately 5MB...
After uploading the file (took over an hour), I tested the film and it began to play extremely slow and choppy. After 16 seconds (the expected duration of the clip) the next scene in the timeline began !! The film had actually only progressed about 3 seconds into itself....
I don't think I am necessarily doing much wrong as it is the best solution that I could come up with in terms of keeping the final 'SWF' file to a minimum size so a user will not have to wait it to load up (got Flash files to 24MB - but still too long to load up!!!)
Can anyone think of an alternative method to playing an 82 MB file, or is this just plain ridiculous??
I am at a loss because I am still curious to see if this is actually feasible... if so then maybe you will help me push the boundaries of Internet viewing!!!

Swf Files Made From Swishmax Files Won't Play
i produced swf file made from swishmax and when I import it as a .swf or .avi. It won't play. When it imported in the library, it shows me tweens, graphics and a mc.
When I go to the mc, I even put some actionscript to play the animation and stop at the end. But its not working!!
This is just a sample on how it should play, but its not playing in Flash.
