What is there in the way of 3rd party software for flash that can do things like write to files on the users machine, edit the users registry and create projectors (or standalone flash pieces) that connect to the internet for live data ?

Can anyone advise me on this - and/or point me to some articles?. Who are the players in this field?. I know about http://www.multidmedia.com/ but are there any other that I should know about?

Im looking for a 3rd party service which will allow me to remotely stream high quality video (and audio), which I can embed into a website. The video has to be private, so the only way you can view the stream is if you are viewing it from the site that has the coded embedded into it. Free or paid services are fine.

Its going to be used for cams, where people have to have a valid membership to a site in order to view it.

Can anyone suggest something like this?

Supplying Flash Adverts For 3rd Party Sites
I've been asked to create some ads to go on a site that specifies "Advertising requiring the use of plug-ins like Flash and Shockwave must utilize "sniffer" code to detect if the user has the required plug-in and display an alternate image if the user does not have it. ".

How do I do this? Are they expecting me to supply the HTML/Javascript that loads either my .swf or a JPEG? I would have expected the host site to have a site-wide function to handle that. What is the normal way of doing this?

Live Flash Streaming For 3rd Party Programme
Hi

I want to use a programme called Wirecast to produce a series of webcast television. My problem is that I want to stream h.264 as flash as it is the most ubiquitous platform on the web, and delivers the content in the quality that I desire.

The makers of Wirecast ( Vara Software) at present are only able to give me the option of the streaming in Real player. This is apparently because Adobe won't allow them to include the code to stream flash.

I know that I am not alone in the frustration this causes, and in fact I have held off purchasing the software package until it has the flash capability, even if that version were to have a premium added.

Could someone at Adobe please help me, is it possible that you could license your product to them?

First off can some one please provide a list of 3rd party /open-source tools that reasonably emulates the Flash 9 authoring environment and secondly are there any tools out there that can convert from SVG format to Flash 9 (AVM2) native vector format...

I've checked out a few things online at Open Source Flash including SVG2SWF converters but conversion is typically restricted to Flash 8 and below...

Launching 3rd Party Apps From Flash While In Full Screen Mode
I was told that there is a script(s) that can be used to Launch 3rd party (ppt, pdf, etc) apps from Flash while in full screen mode. When the the 3rd party app launches, Flash window is reduced and after working with the 3rd paty app like saving a PDF document and when clicking on Flash app window it resumes to Full screen mode. Can some one point me to this screen.

FYI: if in full screen mode in a Flash app for CD-ROM, and if you try to launch a pdf document, it is launched in the background on then PC and in foreground on the Mac. Currently we use Director to control save frile from CD-ROM but sometimes it is a pain. Help will be much appreciated.

Hi, I'm looking for a way to change the base reference URL of a flash movie embedded on a HTML page, without JavaScript and without touching the <head> of the page.

I basically want to put some movies on a different domain but have their relative getURLs still refer to the other domain.

I searched on the net for this and stumbled upon this page:

It suggests you can achieve what I want with a 'base' attribute for the embed and for the object. However, this simply doesn't work.

Example: http://www.its-my-space.com/yjhg.html : at the end this game submits the score to the relative index.php using getURL. It just submits still to the domain that it's on already at the end.

Can anyone help?

Data Base Access Thru Flash MX And PHP

I have been doing some stuff combining Flash MX with mySQL thru PHP. I have som questions though. Is there anyone in this forum that is familiar with these things. I'm new here and don't see very much discussion about it.

Example Q:
Does anybody know how to post to a database using the LoadVars.send function without having to jump to anonther page after the post.
The manual states that You just omit the "return frame" argument from the command, and the browser will stay on the same page, but I can't make that happen. Yes I stay on the page, but the data doesn't get posted to the DB. If i supply the "return frame" argument everything is A OK, but that's not what I want.

Base Attribute Not Working In Flash 8
When using relative URLs inside flash it is important to be able to set the base URL via the BASE attribute in HTML. However since Flash 8 this no longer works if the flash is loaded from a different domain than the webpage. I am using System.security.allowDomain in order to allow the web page domain access to the flash movie, but this doesn't help.

By now I think this is a bug in Flash 8. Does anybody have an idea for a workaround? And I really need to be able to use relative URLs in flash so simply switching to absolute ones will not help. Anybody else having this problem?

I have been looking around how to do this, i have a vauge idea how to do it in html, but i want it so you can click a button on my online Portfolio and the browser will pop up a downloader for my file ("Resume.doc"). How can i do this using Action Script 2.0 or 3.0.

I know flash doesnt allow me to use 1 z index possition and have 2 objects in it. But what happen when I want to create some depth and even when I use the Y possition as indez/z it still going to give me issues when the player z index == some other sprite z index on screen? they both start flashing and sometimes it sends the sprites to the back. And it looks nasty...

I'm using a loop to search inside a movieclip and then all movieclips inside that other movieclip get re-named and re-organized the z index, using the swap method and the y value.

Now all my sprites get a new y position but some of them are sharing the z position. (No I can't group them) so what can I do?

PS: the game is a little village where a character moves "zelda" like... But I dont want to use tile system.

Any help will be appresiated.

Base Href Interfering With Flash Movie?
I've run into problems when using a base href on a page that includes a flash movie? Defining file locations in accordance with the base href hasn't fixed the problem. The only thing that has worked so far is pulling the base href altogether, but this is something that I'd like to avoid if it all possible. I would appreciate any suggestions, work arounds, etc.

[MX] Flash Movie That Extends Outside Of It's Base Size
I'm not really sure how to ask this question, it's been a while since I've dabbled with Flash, but I would like to create a Flash Movie that expands outside of it's base dimensions. For example, the base dimension is 400px x 400px, but then then parts of the movie expand to 600px x 400px. I've seen it a few times in web ads, but couldn't find any examples.

Flash Base Image / Sign Shop
I am working on a web site that sells various products using a product call
swiffcart. It always me to add an image or a Flash file within a cube for a
product (www.swiffcart.com).

A client wishes to enable their customers to alter a sign's colour, text or
images etc the use that image to print the signs. eg:

A std sign has a red backgound
10 lines of non changable text
3 lines of changable text
1 logo image that can be changed.

So how do I go about the above.

I know how to allow the user to change the text of a text box but hpw do I
then create an new flash file or image from the changed sign.
How do I allow the user to browse / drag an image into the flash movie.

Also on the text ensure if he only enters 2 lines of text the text expands
to 'fill' the text area.

I suppose what I am looking for is a flash equivlant of a simplified desktop
publishing app.

Once the sign is finished I then show / email the client the new sign image
he authorises it then the job is printed.

Any help or info appreciated

Flash Reposition Base On Browser Resize
Hey guys,

What is really interesting is that based on resizing the browser window, the Flash content will dynamically reposition itself to the center.

I understand the part how the flash content will align itself centered in the browser based on the dragging BUT HOW does it know (at the point where you release your mouse button after dragging) when to reposition itself?

Is there some sort of listener involed?

Any thoughts to this?

Base Parameter In HTML For Flash Cross Domain Problems.
I have a Flash file that reads in XML.
I want to access the Flash file from another domain.

Had a lot of problem here.
But have almost solved it.

If I add the 'base' parameter in hte HTML and give the directory of the Flash file on the original domain, then this works.

Problem though: I access the XML file by calling it with a random number at the end - to make sure a fresh copy is loaded everytime.

It works with all browsers, apart from IE. : (

Weird: you load up......... and it works!!
You refresh: it fails to read the XML.

Within the Flash... I explicitly reference the XML file through the full URL - still no joy.

What am I doing wrong?

I couldn't find any help on the base parameter.

Any help would be appreciated.

[MX04] Improving Google Search Ranking For A Flash Base Website
hello all...

i understand the basic concept of how search engines work and why it's better to use HTML when ranking is a priority for your site... that said, for sites that are entirely Flash, how do you get better ranking results?

i just finished a new site (http://www.hudsonvalleyyachtcharters.com) and discovered an interesting problem... if you Google any of the key words (hudson, valley, yacht, charters), the site doesn't pop up at all in the results, but if you type the words all together (as in the URL), it pops up immediately... i assume this is because the .swf file is named with those words running together... would putting spaces between the words in the file name help? i was told that is not a good practice for various reasons...

1203: No Default Constructor Found In Base Class Flash.display:BitmapData
I'm trying to create a game that utilizes blitting and double buffering for performance. I have a PNG in the library called ball.png that's linked to a class called ball (seen below).

When I instantiate it, I get the following: 1203: No default constructor found in base class flash.display:BitmapData. Any way around this? I'd like to store relevant properties of the object in itself (as you can see by _posx, _vy, etc.).

I am using my brothers Flash MX and i also have Flash MX Server. Ok basically what i need is help on creating a chat using Flash MX and FLASH MX Server?

I want to be able to load the flash Mx server and when loaded onto my machine people can login to a chat that is using the Fllash mx server and if the MX server isnt running the chat cannot be loaded like chatspace where the server can be run on a machine then users can connect to it and login to the chat?

Please help any tutorials on this or how to do it i seen a post a few days ago with someone saying that Flash mx server can do what chatspace can do is this true please help

I have a problem with Flash 5 and Cinema 4D.
I made a "little man" in Cinema 4D from Maxon and i cant realize
what to do to put him in my Flash project.
The "man" is made with effects 2D...looks like a cartoon but this Cinema 4D don't teach me how to export it so i can import in Flash.

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO DO THIS WITH CINEMA 4D?

Ps: 3D Max is too much for me and that's why i use C4D!
