Flash :: Why Will My Text Field Only Show "Embed Fonts"

Is RegisterFont Needed To Show Embed Fonts?
I`ve been working on a simple app on flash.

I managed to embed the fonts so i can see the text on the app using an specific font that i want to use.
Everything was fine until i tested the swf on another machine (the machine doesnt have the font installed).

So, basically, what i need to do in order to use the embed font so anybody that check the swf can see the correct font? Is this possible? or everybody will need to install the true type?.

Problem In Embed Fonts Outline For Dynamic Field
Hi all,
I've got a main SWF will be launched by IE...
In case, I've an empty MovieClip under a MASK inside this SWF.
And, I'll load different SWF into that empty MovieClip with dynamic font.

The question is, can I online embed the font in one of the dynamic text fields in the MAIN SWF only can let other child SWF use the font!?

The main purpose is, I've many dynamic fields and can I only embed once and all the fields can use the font outline!?

Embed Text... Many Fonts.. How Would You Do This?
I have a program in which the user types something, then it displays. They can then choose the font they want.

There are 40 fonts, many are unique. I know I must embed these, but first off I realize if I embed 40 fonts I feel the file size will grow largely. I don't want this.

Any suggestions?

Text Doesn't Show When I Embed
Hi, thanks for taking the time to look at my problem.
I have Flash CS3, and I just downloaded the Pirulen font. I played my movie and it works. When I tried to embed the font, the text doesn't show up at all.

Also, I have a tint on my text on a keyframe, and if I click on the timeline, the text shows up black like it should, but when I export it, the text stays red. I tried different fonts, but none of them work.

Can I Embed Fonts For Dynamic Text?
I noticed my web page looks fine on my computer. I just looked at it on another computer for the first time. Any place that has dynamic text, the other computer substituted some really bad alternatives. How can I get around this?

Embed Fonts - Text Disappears
I have a dynamic text box pulling in external text. when "no characters" is selected in the Characters button dialog, I can see the text.

When I select "uppercase", "lowercase", "numerals", the text disappears when the movie is played.

What dumb thing am I doing wrong?

Embed Fonts - Disappearing Text
Attached you will find some sources:embed 2.fla illustrates the problem
arial.fla is just a dynamically loaded font library
info.xml is just some external text

Currently embed 2.fla works as it is. However, if you change anyone of the TextFields in the GUI to a font type of "arial" all of the embedded text will disappear. However, if they are anything but arial (as that font face is set in the info.xml file), they embed correct and display just fine.

How do I set the TextFields in the GUI to arial so that if no font face is provided in the external text it will default to arial?

Dynamic Text Embed Fonts
I can't get dynamic text to work with embedded fonts.
I put a dynamic text field, 'my_txt' on the stage and entered 'Sample Text' into the text field with Arial 12 pt bold. I then clicked on 'Embed...' and included upper and lower case characters. The text shows up fine when I test movie; however, if I change the text with Actionscript:

my_txt.text = 'New Text';

the text disappears. Even if I reassign 'Sample Text' to the text field:

my_txt.text = 'Sample Text';

it does not display.

What am I doing wrong?

Text Disappears When I Embed Fonts
I have a swf that loads other swfs. When I embed fonts, the text doesn't appear. When I comment out the embed line, the text appears, but looks very bad.

This is all text loaded from an external text file.

When I test the movie from inside flash, the embed command works and the text displays.

When the published swf is loaded from the parent swf, then the trouble begins!

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Embed Fonts In Dynamic Text Box - Code?
I am a complete action script novice and need to embed a font into a dynamic text field. The field is populated by text already and has a scroll bar component dragged onto the box. I have imported the font to the library and followed the 'linkage' instructions but what code do I put on the frame/movie action to make it pick up the font when the swf movie plays? Help - I have a deadline by the end of today for this!
ps I know some of the script is "embed font=True" but what is the exact scripting.?

Embed Fonts ONCE For Multiple Text Fields
Hello, this is my first post here. I'm kinda new to Flash and I'm running in some problems. I have a contact form with several input text fields. I'd like to make the input text font a fancy one, so I need to embed it to render it antialiased and that it doesn't turns to device font in other machines missing the fancy fonts.

However the only way I've been able to accomplish this is embedding the fonts for *all* the input fields. This means tha for each input field the file grows about 20Kb. This, of course, is not acceptable.

I've read anywhere that embedding the fonts once should work, when adding the text fields with embedded fonts to the stage; well it doesn't. Using font symbols neither, I've created a font symbol and selected it as the font for the fields: it reverts to device font.

I'm using Flash 8 professional. Any suggestion will be very welcome. Thanks and regards,

Dynamic Text Masking : How To Embed Fonts Once For All Swfs ?
I have a main movie calling multiple swf all of them with dynamic text and masks.
I read somewhere i had to embed the font to be able to see the text, which works fine, but adds 30k to every single one of my swfs.
Some are pretty small and really don't want a preload scene, so i was wondering if it was possible to embed a font once in the main movie and not have to do it for every single other swf file loaded from this movie.

Or maybe there is other solutions ?
Read that dynamic masks didn't have the problem in mx, true ?
Read that system fonts didn't need to be embedded, but errr, what are system fonts ?
i tried _sans and _serif and still had the mask problem.

Load External Text File And Embed Fonts
Hi,
I'm trying to load an external .txt file into Flash.
Everything seemed to work, but when I tried using an HTML tag or the text disappeared.

I found out the problem appeared when I embedded the font. When I switched it off, the HMTL tags were rendered properly. However, I need to use a specific font for my project. Is there a way to do this?

HTML Text And Embed Fonts Issue With Masks?
Alright, I need help here, Ive been trying all day to figure this damm thing out.

What I have is a dynamic textbox within a movie clip.

The textboxes INSTANCE name is "newsBox" (no quotes) and the movie clips instance name is "newsClip"

newsClip is being masked by a rectangle shape. Now as everyone knows (or will soon find out), you need to embed the font outline for a dynamic textbox to work when being masked. That is all well and good... BUT.... and it is a big but.... When you want to render the text as html and read it as htmlText it doesn't work!!!!!

Am I to assume that you can't use HTML formatted text in a masked clip with a textbox? If so this really friggin sucks because it defeats the whole purpose of what I was trying to do!!

Is this a bug in Flash? Is there a reason they did this? Is there a way around it?

Loaded Text File Wont Show All Of The Text In Dynamic Text Field
When I load an external text file into flash and display the string in a dynamic text box, not all of the text will show in the text box; and using scroll button to scroll the text doesnt help.

The text that is in the text file is as follows, and as far as I can see there is no reason why all this text shouldnt show in the dynamic text field; by the way all my targets are correct, I know that for fact.

I am gonna ask the same question again regarding tweening in text fields.
I already read some Adobe documentation and I understood that text field has its property _alpha available just when it HAS embed FONTS,
So I supose if I want apply a tween class on a text field, I HAVE to have a embed font aplied in this text field... well, for now it is ok, because I did some experiments and everything worked good, but I need to use LoadVars to load my text from external file, and that is my deal.
Does anydoby know something regarding this issue, because I already tried a text fiels with TextFormat class aplied, and embed Fonts, but when I try to load my text from an external file, nothing happen !
You guys can check this site below and notice that thet ext field has a tween class aplied in "About Us", "Testimonials", "Pricing" and "Contact US"...

Do you guys think that they did not use a external text file for this option ?
Just writing all text directly in TextField.text propriety instead a external file ?

How To Embed Images Into A Scrolling Text Field
I have my scrolling text field all set up through the Properties inspector. I have imported the images I want in the scrolling text field into the library.

I'd be happy to use the <img src> HTML tag to tell the text field to put the images in, but I can't figure out where to put the code in. The ActionScript window won't let me put anything in there, I'm so confused!

Is there any point embedding outlines for Arial when using a dynamic texst field? My guess is no, as 99.99999999999999% of all people alive MUST have Arial on their machines...correct me if im wrong someone

Does anyone know whether it's possible to embed something like a "link" in an HTML text field that can call an Actionscript function?

In other words, I know that its possible to use an <A HREF=...> tag if you want the link to launch an HTML page, or call a javascript function, but I'd like to embed a link that, when the user clicks it, calls a bit of actionscript. Can this be done?

Input Text Field: Embed Uppercase Letters
Hi all,
I use input text fields with character options chosen to embed only uppercase letters. I have used this type of field many times before, but for some reason in my current project the uppercase outlines are not embedding for all letters. For example, when I type "who" in the field it looks like "Who" instead of "WHO" or when I type "hat" in the field it looks like "hAt" instead of "HAT".

I have tried copying fields from other movies that work correctly, recreating new fields, and changing the instance names. I don't use any type of special programming other than the settings in the properties panel and have never had this problem. Any suggestions regarding what could possibly be set differently to cause this?

My Dynamic Text Field Is Blank When I Embed Font
Why's my dynamic text field blank when I embed the font chosen?

The text field loads text from an external .txt file with html codes.

There's no problem when I mark "No charaters" but when "All" or "Only" is marked the text field is blank?!?!?

I've tried to remove the html codes from the external file, but it makes no difference!

I have a php page where there is a form with a dropdown list of all text files in my site. The name of the dropdown is $filename.

The action script in my swf is this:
loadVariablesNum("<?PHP echo $filename; ?>", 0);

but I get nothing. It displays correctly when I replace
<?PHP echo $filename; ?> with the actual value of $filename, for example:
loadVariablesNum("ui_websites.txt", 0);

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

I have a dynamic text field that is fed through an external text file. Now if I change the font in the properties window of the text field, will the person who views my site need to have that font to be able to view it?

Is there a way to show special fonts (fonts made) and images in the list box component coming from XML?

Is there a way to set individual text items in list box as italic and bold? We can set the whole list box as italic and bold but does not want to do individual. This also comes from XML
i.e. first word is A, second word is Abba and needs to be italic and bold.

We have a text box that has a main word with an active links to subword under main word, but can not get the link to the subword to word, which can be pulled from anywhere in the xml files which are rather large. Can anyone help there?

Can I assign the Dynamic Text Field to a Style Sheet???

I am importing text in the dynamic text field using a text file, with the font set as TAHOMA.

Works great in PC, not in the MAC.

Does anyone have any suggestions how I get around this, as, it seems the client wants TAHOMA as the font.

2 Fonts In 1 Dynamic Text Field
I have html text being pulled in from an XML file, and sometimes they want to use symbols (which are available in Arial Greek) but don't show up in the text (html) field (flash doens't know what the & rho; is).

We have another font that is strictly for the symbols. So what I'd like to do is have the Arial as the base font, and use css and spans to tell Flash to use another font... is this possible? and if so, I have NO idea how to do it LOL (embed both fonts in one text field);

I Have A Problem Getting The Value Of The Combo Box To Show In A Text Field
I have 1 form text field,dynamic called txt2, I have the combo box called cb_instance that i'm trying to get the value selected from the combobox to show in the text field.

I can get the value from the event object using trace but can't seem to see how to get it to show in the text field called txt2.

Show/Hide MC Holding Text Field
Hey all,

I've asked this question before with no luck, mainly due to me not being able to fully explain myself.

I have a mc that holds a text field. The mc's default alpha is 0, on the click of a button I want the mc to show the text field. The problem, the text is still visible, regardless of the master mc's alpha, and the button doesn't swap the visibility back. (This doesn't work because Im not sure how to do it.)

I have posted an example of what I am talking about here.

When the page initially loads, you see the floating text there with the button. When you hit the button the mc's alpha changes to 100 and allows you to see the text field borders. I have the below code associated with the transcript button.

the second one has anti alias for readability but it does not display the ' character.

Only Default Fonts For Scrolling Text Field?
We did a scrolling text field in flash 5 and we used an external text file which we loaded in. The font we used in simple text to write our text did not import to flash it uses a default font. Is there any way to change the font color and size when loading from an external file?

If we write the text directly in flash in the actions can we write some script to make it change fonts and colors??

I was just wondering if it is possible to have two seperate fonts displayed in the same Dynamic text field. I've tried formating my external txt file with both HTML and CSS font tags and still nothing.

Trying to use an ebedded custom font in a dynamic HTML text field, the HTML tags are not taken into account at all. Even putting an offstage text sample with the desired font styles and sizes and embed them (as recommended in a TechNote) will not do it. Declaring and using a CSS through ActionScript won't do it. How can this be done? Everything works fine with normal not embedded fonts ...

Some Fonts Don't Display In Dynamic Text Field
I've got a dynamic text field which uses fonts from my system for the text. The majority show as they are supposed to look, but certain ones like Webdings and Wingdings show up as Arial. Any solutions? It's a font browser so it's supposed to recognize the system fonts.

I am trying so hard to get this to work and am baffled. I have a flash site that gets updated frequently, some of the text will tend to be larger than the textField size(I use load variable to get the txt file), so I thought I would use scroll to make it work. Well I cannot understand how to call the Variable text.txt

I have tried Set Variable and that works well for the buttons, but the textField, when set variable will show, when the movie is previewed, only text I type into the variable field. I would like that textField to read from the text.txt, and then be able to use the scroll bars to navigate it when it is larger than the alotted space... any clues? THANKS!!!
