StartDrag() With Scaling? (win Explorer Style Slider)
I'm working on a project where I have a fixed size custom slider that needs to move a dyn sized movie clip (images are loaded into it). The movie clip is under a mask so only 450 px of it shows at once. If it helps the sliders max left to right is 400 px. But the movie clip it needs to move will be over 1000 px’s. The goal is simple when the slider is all the way left it should show the far left side of the movie clip and if it’s all the way on the right the far right the movie clip should touch the edge of the mask. In other words just like the regular windows explorer (just dont have to scale the slider its self). I been trying for a few hours now to do it with plain math but I have confused the heck out of myself. Has anyone seen any tutorials on this topic or similar topics? Or maybe a way to use startDrag?

Windows Explorer Look
In one of the forum replies JR you gave a link which contained a windows explorer kind of look. What i mean is that it basically had a folder structure and clicking on the + sign beside the folder used to bring up the vertical scrollbar in IE, if the Flash file scaled down. I hope it makes sense, is it possible JR to forward me the link again as I cant find it anymore.

Open Windows Explorer
I have an exe created with SWF studio (I have to use this to disable window resizing in my projector file). Problem is, the program does not handle external files very well and I need to link to a few. I have decided that the easiest course of action would be to open windows explorer when a button is clicked so that the user can browse to the external files themselves. It needs to be windows explorer (if possible to a specific directory on the CD), because there is an autorun on the CD itself.Is there any way to do this in flash?

It Looks So Simple In Windows Explorer...
Okay, I need some help figuring out how to do this. Wonder if anyone can figure this out...the effect I'm trying to create is like Macromedia's tree-menu component...

I have a tree-like menu (heirarchal) in a box (just a graphic symbol in a layer below it, not a text field or anything). When you first enter the site, the menu just has the 6 main catergories, but when you click on a catergory, it expands to present submenus. No problems there. The problems are as follows:

I need to scroll the menu when it's expanded enough, when it gets to 2 or 3 catergories opened with their submenus, the menu stretches outside the box, which I don't want. So I masked the box, no problem, it hides the menu that stretches further than the box, but now I need to figure out how to use some scroll arrows I made below the box to scroll the menu when it's too long to fit in the box and it's being hidden by the mask(and only when it's too long, not when it's fitting in the box just fine). I got the scrolling working, but since the menu can be different sizes (depending on what catergories are open), I can't figure out how to tell flash when to stop scrolling it (perhaps it could check the height???), and for now it scrolls right out of the site.

Another problem is that when you expand the menu, anything that is hidden by the mask layer above, just won't show up at all when you scroll the menu to get to it...

Windows Explorer Viewing
Hello.

For some reason the web page will only work correctly in Firefox Browser. When I look at it in the Opera Browser some of the pictures are missing on some pages. BUT when I look at it in Windows Explorer the images are either displayed out of order on top of each other (MUSIC TAB) or Displayed outside of the frame (HOME PAGE).

....NOW HERE'S THE BIG ONE....When you load up the home page, go to the music page, and then return to the home page again and everything will appear normal...then same when you return to the music page again. What do you think of this issue?

If you have any other suggestions about ways I can make adjustments of the action script or anything else please share them.

Linking To Windows Explorer
I'm creating a flash based browser menu system. It will be distributed as an auto play cd rom. I'd like to have a button on this flash movie open the windows explorer to a certain directory (not file) on the cd to display contents of whats in that directory.

I tried using the fscommand and geturl and specify /foldername but doesnt seem to work.

Any ideas?

Guys and girls,I'm Currently built a whole flash site. And I've made it looks much like microsoft windows style. But I feel badly with creating these windows. Lots of questions ,such as detect active windows, assign array of windows titles,make it resizable,load txt outside and make windows size just fit for it and with scroll bars,make title bar, body,button(close , minimize , maximize),menu combined together.... And I feel deep lost in such kind of things.

I don't wanna to make every window as outside swf files and then load them into main interface file.Just wanna to create a function such as creatwindows with one body of it duplicate different windows.I feel it's much more effective.

Maybe my question is so big,but I just wanna you to give me some suggestions, or share your experience.Thanks a lot.

Internet Explorer Windows And Flash
Hello to everyone. Scenario: I have a flash movie in a window that uses Javascript to resize and remove the scrollbars and menu etc...
Question: If I have a link in my flash movie to a URL, how can I get that URL link to open in a NEW Internet Explorer window with all the bells and whistles. As it is right now, the URL opens in the child window and is confined to the Javascript settings. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[CS3] Launching Windows Explorer From Flash
I am working on a CD Browser for our company's software CD. One of the features of our previous versions (using demoshield and html) was a selection to "Explore the files on this CD" which would launch Windows Explorer at the root of the CD. How might I do that in Flash? Would I use FScommand? If so, i assume that I would have to use a batch file that would launch explorer? Any help would be appreciated.

Need To Open An Exe And/or Shortcut And/or Windows Explorer
As described in the message title, I need to know how to run an Exe and/or Shortcut and/or Windows Explorer, I'm not fussy which, however I need one for the application I'm developing to work. I don't know if it's even possible, or whether I should be using Actionscript 3 (I'm using AS 2 as I have a little bit of knowledge with it) however any help would be appreciated.

Troubles With Opening New Windows In Explorer
Hey all,
I'm currently working on an artists site www.artnthings.com
The main page features four different links that are suppose to pop up in new
windows. Right now only 2 of these links are actually completed, but all of them properly pop up for me in netscape to their proper size and position. However when I access the same main page in exporer 6, only one of the links pops a new window up (the one for contact). I've checked the code over and over and can't see why only that one link works in explorer as they all appear to be identical. Any ideas why it would work fine in netscape and only partially in explorer? Any help would be appreciated, thanks, i love this site!

Windows XP Style Navigation
Hello, is there a tutorial or a component that I can get that emulates the Window XP Style Navigation on the left side of a window (like when browsing directories.. It lists common tasks, etc). I like how the menus expand and contract and how the other menus move up and down depending on what menus are expanded and contracted.

Windows Style Interface
Hi all,

Wondering why I can't access certain properties of my moveie clips.

I've got a windows style interface built in MX 2004. It uses buttons to attach movieclips of a little window. Each window has a close and minimize button, but some of the actions are working, and some aren't.

I'm attaching the movieclip to a dynamically created mc (using createEmptyMovieClip) and I can access the _x and _y properties, but I can't seem to get to anything with an instance or variable name. When each button is pressed, I want to assign _width and _height properties to instances within the attached movie and also put text into a dynamic text box.

The AS included seems to work, but I've included the following (as one example) and it has no effect or the wrong effect:

ActionScript Code:
on(release){_root["placeholder" + i].window_body._width = 120;}

the script is supposed to scale the window elements depending on what's to be displayed. I also want to include a script that changes the alpha of the active or inactive windows. The swapDepths() function isn't working either.

Windows Style Button
I'm not sure if anyone else was unhappy with the Flash MX 2004 buttons and the size bloating that occurs by adding them. I know I was. To get around this I created a windows style button. You just adjust the width of the button and then assign text via action script. It automatically redraws itself at run time. This cuts the file size down by 25k.

Windows Style Interface Problem.
Hi,

I'm currently trying to build a windows style interface for my portfolio but have come across two problems

I have made a draggable window as a movie clip.

I cannot however figure out the code to close the window down once it is up. this leads onto my second question. I have a set of buttons that I want to call the movie clip windows from. How would I go about this. I think basically this is the same problem. Once I know how to open the windows I'll be able to figure out how to close them again

I've played with loadMovie(movieClip) but with no luck.

Any help would be fab 'cos this is really starting to get tedious now.

Windows' Style Window In Flash

this is my first thread.

I have this problem. I tryed to create a movieclip that simulates the windows' windows, lets say it... this is my swf: www.atoon.com.br/teste/testejanela.swf

at first look, it seems to work right. Its draggable and scalable just like a windows os frame. But so far so good, try to move the horizontal scrollbar thumb till it reaches its limit. Then scale the movieclip. You'll see there is a bug in the scrollbar i can't figure out the solution....

The FLA file is in the same directory, just swicth .swf to .fla and you will see the...hmmm... code. hehe... i'm new programming, so, dont expect a great job. Comments are in Portuguese, but its easy to understand. Well, hope someone can help me fixing this bugs in my mc =D

Can Fscommand Open A Specific Folder In Windows Explorer?
I'm creating a CD for PCs which, from the autorun window, has a button which launches an Explorer window, but I want it to open to in a specific directory or folder.

I've managed to launch the Windows Explorer application, using
on (press) {
fscommand("exec", "explorer.exe");
}
where explorer.exe is located within the fscommand directory, but I don't know the syntax for a PC to find the correct directory (not the root directory).

Any ideas?

Also, a bonus would be to open the Explorer application at a specific size.

Drag + Rollover Effect Similar To Windows Explorer
Hello all,

I was hoping to pick some brains here. Supposing you're in Windows Explorer (in WinXP that is), and you drag a file and hold it over the folder you're going to drop it into. Now, when you're holding it over the folder, the folder highlights.

How can I recreate this effect in Flash MX?

I have a "tile" movieclip, and a "container" movieclip. The tile is meant to be dragged into the container. In the situation where the tile is being dragged and held over the container (ie, mouse button has not been released), the container is meant to change colour.

Open Windows Explorer And Make External File In Front Of Flash Proyektor.
I have to problem with my proyektor file.

1. when I open external file (pdf file with .bat file to run it), the adobe acrobat run under the flash proyektor windows so I can see the acrobat reader before I quit the flash proyektor.

Internet Explorer And Flash - Freakin Explorer Bar
Okay, I'm pretty new at with Flash, and the whole actionscript/xml/xhtml stuff. When I upload my .swf to the web, I always get that explorer bar dropping bombs everytime I open the page. And I get it on just about every computer. Is there a special embed tag or some trick I'm missing to make that thing go away. Also, why do some sites automatically focus and others not. Problem In Running A Flash MX-2004 Application On Windows 98 Adn Windows NT.

I have this problem ......here it goes.....
Actually I developed a Flash MX-2004 application which has to run on both mac and windows platforms.
This application does the funciton of a dictionary and has 46 xml files and close to 13000 sound files.
This application runs fine on most Windows platform, however it doesnt work on Windows 98 and Windows NT where though the intro animation comes & the home screen loads....the application part of the program doesnt load.

Why is this so??? I am totally clueless...please help....
Do I have to make the intro and exit animations as separate swf files adn call them????
