Absolute _x Position?
Hello
is there any function that gives a movieclip's _x or _y value in relation to the stage?
I've got a series of nested movieClips and right down at the bottom is one and I need its co-ordinates!

There are transformations and rotations on the movieclips inbetween, and so the only way I can see of getting the value i need at the mo is to do loads of painful trigonometry!

Load Movie Into Certain Position Of The Screen
Hi everyone!

I'm trying to load a movie into level 1, on the top of the main movie.

I want to define x y coordinate, so that it loads to cetain area of the main movie.

As for now, the loaded movie which is smaller than the main parent movie on level 0 is at the top left corner of the screen.

Can anybody tell me how to solve this problem?

How To Run Movie In Current Screen And Set The Position?
I am doing a website and i need to load the movie files when i press this certain button to the right side of the frame. How do I do it?? How do I set the coordinate of the movie to the screen? playing instead of it loading into a new window??

Full Screen On Second Monitor?

Saving Window Position At Dual Monitor System
Hi!

Is it just me, or is it a bug? I use flash at a dual monitor system an place the stage on the first and the actionscript window on the second screen. After restarting flash, both (the stage and the AS-window) are at the first screen.

Absolute Full Screen
im not actually sure this can be done how i want but..

a local nightclub wants us to produce the animation for the screens in the club (5x15inch tv screens) which as far as am aware is connected to a central PC.. so my thinking is i can create the animation in flash .. easy enough.

The question i have is how can flash be bundled as such to open completely full screen... a google search just brought up how to get full screen of a 'browser window' where as i need full screen?... any ideas?

Full Screen On Any Size Monitor?
I am trying to put my website on a CD so I can enter it in a contest because they requested it that way.

I decided to use the following FS command and it works fine as long as they have a 21" monitor.

FS Command ("FullScreen", "True")
Play

If they have a smaller monitor my site shows up 1/2 way off of the screen. Is there any way to make it sit on a smaller monitor?

Monitor Size VS. Screen Resolution
Hey all,
I've got a bit of a dilemma. I'm building a major tutorial presentation that needs to function as an .SWF & .EXE. I built one of these last year using Flash MX(1st edition) and never had a problem, but now that I'm using MX 2004 Professional, I'm having MAJOR RESOLUTION problems.

I built this presentation using screenshots taken using SnagIt on a screen set to 1024x768. My stage is built at this size. I placed all of the screenshots, WITHOUT resizing them onto the stage and they look great when I publish them on my monitors at 1280px. BUT when the client opens the flash they say that the screenshots are all grainy and illegible(their screens are at 1024px)! It seems something is happening to the resolution on the RESIZE. I have redone the screens twice now(there's like 50+ screens), the client originally saved them as PNG's but I had them re-save them as .TIFF's and I'm STILL ENCOUNTERING REZ LOSS. I do have an FS command setting the presentation to full screen, but this is what I did last year, w/o any problems.

Is there an inherent MX 2004 bug? Or code that I may use to compensate for other people's screen sizes? Please help! I'm at a total loss!

Full Screen And Monitor Resolution
Hi ...

i have a simple question about full screen and the monitor resolution .

when i make a full screen web page i usually make it 800 x 600 for the swf file and i use a java script to pop up the full screen html page which contains the swf file with a center and middle align and valign ; and i don't have any problem with this point .

but if some one has a 1024 x 768 screen resolution ( 17 " monitor ) he will find a border around the swf file .. with the bgcolor of the html page ( i usually make it black .

but i see some sites using the full screen pop up pages which fill all the monitor for both 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768 .

do they make 2 version of swf file and a java script detector so if the visitor has a 800 x 600 monitor resolution the 800 x 600 swf file is published and the same for the 1024 x 768 ?

or they use some script to resize the swf file to fit the visitor monitor resolution .

i hope that you can give me an explanation ... and if there any script please send it to me .

Can't Run Flash Player In Full Screen On 2nd Monitor
Hi all! I have a laptop with dual video displays. The main display is the laptop's LCD and the 2nd display is a 19" LCD connected via VGA cable. I want to let a Flash movie loop endlessly on the second monitor while I continue to work on the laptop. When I drag Flash Player 8 over to the 2nd monitor and start the movie, I can hit maxmize and it will take up the entire 2nd montior as it should...with the file options and boarder around as expected. I then hit Ctrl-F to go full screen and it snaps directly to the laptop's primary monitor. I tried it at work where my desktop has 2 displays and the same thing happens. I need to force Flash player to run full screen on the 2nd monitor and cannot find a way to accomplish this. Any help is appreciated because it's driving me nuts. I can always make the external monitor my primary but then the start button and all my icons move there too and that is not acceptable. Thanx!

Passing SWF's Absolute SCREEN Location To Javascript
Well I hope that title explains it.

I'm new to flash, so excuse my ignorance.

I'm trying to create a flash navigation area in a new window. Now that window will be able to be dragged around the users screen.

My navigation window will then popup other browser windows with artwork and other content, but I want the window to popup immediately to the right of my navigation window. Here is where I need your help. Is there a way for Flash to find it's absolute screen location. By this I mean it's location on the screen NOT it's location within the flash window.

This might only be doable using javascript, and since I am using the excellent chromeless window code, I figure a javascript solution would be sufficient. But it seems like it would be better to let me flash code know what is going on.

[CS3] How To Make Flash Fill Up Whole Screen No Matter The Monitor Resolution?

Does anybody know the best way to do this? Does your flash files have to be certain dimension to start with? And what code do you use to do that? I think I heard you have to use Java script?

Is It Possible To Get The Absolute Position Of A Movieclip Within Another Movieclip?
Just as the title states...

I have a movieclip, which contains three other movie clips. I would like to get the absolute position of the child movieclips (relative to the stage) but when I get their _x and _y values, Flash obviously returns their positions relative to their parent movieclip.

So is it possible to get the position, relative to the stage, of a movieclip within another movieclip?

I had them all set up as independent movie clips, but the process of correctly modifying _rotation of the entire goup becomes overly complicated (if not impossible) when they don't all have the same center points.

Note: I can't simply add the position of the parent to the position of the child because the child position values do not change when the whole movieclip is rotated.

Monitor And Control Access To MX Movie
A couple of years ago I produced some training movies in MX, which are accessed as swfs via a weblink and then simply viewed on the users PC.

I now wish to control and monitor access to these. A user will buy say 50 licences and then I need to able to monitor how many times that movie is accessed and viewed and if they exceed the 50 limit, or are not an approved user - they get a polite message telling them how to buy licences. If possible I want to build as much of this into the MX as I can, rather than totally relying on an outside database solution.

I am not so worried about protecting the swf from decompilers - the users are extremely unlikely to have that capability or software!!

Any pointers as to how to do this easily or is there any software available to help? Had a look at mirage systems multimedia protection, but I dont want to play the movies in another player, I want these to play in Flash player as normal.

Using A Listener To Monitor A Movie's Alpha Value
i am trying to figure out how to use a listener to monitor a movie's ("objectA") alpha value.

i am loading a "objectA" into a container movie. there is a close button in "objectA" that tells it to fade to "0".

i want the listener to monitor the loaded "objectA"'s alpha value, and when it reaches 0, i want the listener to call a function that will unload "objectA" from it's container.

Screen Position
I have created a flash application but I am getting a strange problem that I can't figure out.

The screen position of my application moves over to the right hand side, if I trace the .x location of the movieclips on the screen they don't change but everything has moved way over to the right hand side?

Top Position Into A New Screen
Hi all.

I need your help, I am trying to position my screen at the top but I am loosing the SSL icon and service.
I am using GetUrl function. My first screen has a Next button at the bottom of the screen, once I click the next button the second screen appears but it appears at the bottom also. It seems to keep the scroll bar position at the bottom. What can I do to re-position my second screen at the top and to keep the SSL working.

ok, now. how do capture stuff like a movie? ok, let me take an example. i like some parts of a movie and i want to use them for my flash. now, to import it and cut out the parts which i dont like is to tiresome. besides, even importing it would take a lot of time since the size of the whole file is huge (700 MBs). Now, is there anyway to record only the part of the movie i like using a program. the webcam wont do cause the quality would be cheap.

so in short, how do u make a movie from what is happening on the monitor?

Fitting Movie To Individual Monitor Resolutions
ive made my first flash homepage:

and on my laptop with 1400x1050 it is perfect, but for example with 1024x768 it looks terrible,
because the movie is too big for the screen and the fonts are too big
so the design concept is gone.

Absolute Address In Load Movie
sorry for the newbie question, using MX on mac 10.2.6

How do I do an absolute address. Say the file is "menu.swf", and the folder it is in is "source" and I am using the load movie command:

loadMovieNum("menu.swf", 5);

And the file that is loading it is "top.swf" and it resides just outside the "source" folder in the "all" folder.

all (folder)
top.swf
source (folder)
menu.swf

I just don't know what the correct labeling/mark would be ( / , _ " ) etc...

what would be the full load movie command for this example.

Placing A Movie Or Any Object On Absolute Top.
This has to be a very simple thing to do but I can't figure it out.

When summoning a movie object.... how do I force it so that it is always on top (of everything like as if it is a popupmenu)? Is there an action script I can add so that it does this?

Currently, when I attach a movie from a different timeline... only those things on that time line are below the movie. Objects from a different time line remain on top of this movie object obstructing my view.

Any ideas to remedy this problem?

Can A Swf Know Its Position In A Web Page/on Screen?
Hiya, I would like to find out if a swf can know where it is positioned within an html page or on a user's screen.

I would like to know this as I am creating some banners that use local connection to communicate but the swfs may appear in different locations on the web page so I need to know where they are in relation to each other.

All of the code to solve this must be inside of the swfs (I can't put any in the web-page)

Reset Movie Clip X-position & Y-position Back To Original
Is there a command to reset x-position, y-position and rotation all at once...like reset command?...or would I have to find the original x-positions and y-positions to all elements and hardcode that back....EEEK!!

How To Move A Movie Clip To Absolute Coordinate

When you go to the portfolio section and click on the buttons "Brand strategy", "Packaging" or "collateral" the submenu moves to a new y value on the screen. I am using this script to move the movie clip in the submenu

}

It works until you use the scroll (up/down arrows)buttons on the submenu the when you click on "Brand strategy", "Packaging" or "collateral" buttons you see the y value is relative to the last position the submenu was in.
I need to know how to move the movie clip to an absolute y coordinate on the stage.

X And Y Position Depending On Screen Resolution
Hi. I have a main movie "index.swf" embedded in an HTML page width=100%, height=100%.

This index.swf loads all the other movies into levels. I want some of the movies that are loaded in the upper levels to "stick" to the bottom, top & sides of the browser no matter what the screen resolution is.

In addition I need one of the movies loaded into a level to be dead center.

Anyone know how I can do this? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Contentpath In Screen Swf: Wrong Position
I made a screen (slides) based document which was very slow loading (size more than 4 MB...)

So I emptied all slides an made external swf’s that are to load in the slide by contentpath.

My problem is that the external swf’s do not place correctly and this ONLY in Internet Explorer (Mac)

Actually sometimes they come in the correct position and sometimes not. After reloading the page they are always in incorrect position ( http://roswa.free.fr )
I tried everything, nothing seems to influence the positionning.

Does anyone know what this could be ???

Get X,y Position On Screen, Not From Parent Sprite
i have a sprite that's inside multiple sprites. i don't want to have to add up all the x,y positions to get the xy position on the screen....

like... the x y position should be something like 500,400, but its giving me 10,20 because it's inside a sprite that is around 500x400

i hope that makes sense..

i think there was something like localToGlobal in AS2.0, but idk if that's what that was used for....

Moving A Symbol From Random X Position Across Screen.

Loading External Screen Swf: Position Problem
In a regular flash file I have a loader component which is supposed to load a screen based flash swf.

At first it worked fine then the external swf did not load in its correct position anymore. Actually most of the time you would not see it at all because it must be way out of the loader component.

Now I know there is a problem regarding the registration point of screen based documents. I found out that the 0,0 point (or 'top-left') of the screens in a movie change dynamically at runtime, depending what's in them.
Even though I have tried to switch off the auto snap option for the registration point it does not do the trick.

I am wondering why this is not a bigger issue. I have tried to find a solution everywhere, but I only found one other person bringing even the problem up.

Does anyone know what could be done?

Screen Position & Scaling To Fit Window Size

I was hoping someone might be able to help me or point me in the direction of help! I'm not sure if I'm asking a really stupid question! I'm also not sure of what I'm asking for is called so I've looked at existing examples on the web to illustrate my questions.

I've come across this website (http://www.toshiba-emi.co.jp/hikki/index_f.htm) which features a swf which is displayed at 100% width and height, and with no scaling.

Firstly, I was wondering how the background photo can be rescaled depending on the window size, even with the noscale param?

Secondly, I'd like to know how the 'Last Update' box always aligns to the bottom left and the title box always aligns to the top left. Another website (http://www.square-enix.co.jp/kingdom2fm/) shows similar with elements snapping to the extremities of the screen while the main content stays centred.

Screen Division Based On Cursor Position
I need advice in developing a dynamic user-controlled display. I've divided the layout into three equal parts. I wish to change these proportions based on cursor position:

if the user moves into panel A (left), panel A increases its width to 75% of the total area while panels B and C contract to fill the remaining 25% (at right).

if the user moves into panel B (center), panel B increases its width to 75% of the total area while panels A (moving left) and C (moving right) contract to fill the remaining 25%.

if the user moves into panel C (right), panel C increases its width to 75% of the total area while panels A and B contract to fill the remaining 25% (at left).

Any ideas?

Position Images Relative To Screen Size
i have a flash movie with scalemode set to false and in the .html file the width and height of the object tag are 100%

i have a large image in my flash movie (about 800x900) so on some screens it will be cropped. how can i make it so that the bottom of the image is always flush with the bottom of the screen. so, on a lower screen res only the top and sides are cropped, not the bottom.

i tried:

ActionScript Code:
Stage.onResize = function() {
backGroundImage._y = Stage.height-backGroundImage._height;
};

but this doesn't work because although the screen height changes, the origin (x=0, y=0) does not move to the top left of the screen, it is cropped out of view too.

Mouse X Position To Control Movie Position?
Hi, my understanding of actionscript is very basic and I'd like some help with writing a very simple script. Basically the x position of the mouse should control the play position of a movie. Movie Size Fitting Any Monitor Size

Is there a way to design a Flash movie so that it will look good on all monitor sizes? For instance I designed a Flash site that was 800 x 600 but on larger monitors it looks incredibly small. I know that I cannot control everyones individual monitor settings but is there any way that I can set up the movie so that it stretches and fits any monitor size?

External Movie Position Inside A Movie Clip
I have loaded an external movie into a movie clip on the the main timeline. The problem is the newly loaded movies top left corner starts from the centre of the movie clip into which the external movie was loaded. Could someone please explain why this is happening and how can I solve it. thanks
