Advanced Problem?
Hope someone could help me with the following problem: On my current project I want to load different swf`s on different levels, and every swf will visible on the screen at the same time if the user chooses to.
Now to the actual problem. I want to create small squares (mc`s in this case) at the bottom of the screen that show the user what content is on the screen. One square for each level/swf that are loaded, just like in a specific OS (read: Windows). You know, small squares reading for example "flash kit community-..." and "Flash 5- [index.fla:1]"... These squares must always be positioned to the right of each other, and be totally independent of each other`s x-position. Hope someone understand this problem.

I am trying to connect with a mysql database with PHP to create a multi user chat server. Could be a game server as well. I found a tutorial at Ultrashock, but not much luck. I have set up a mysql database with 'chatUsers" and 'chatMessage' fields. I have the right connection string for it. PHP trouble? Actionscript trouble? I don't know! Any help?

Again me with my stupid problems
I wanted to know if there is any way of controlling(altering alpha) an graphics object(called taust) through an externaly loaded swf.My main movie is called "avaleht"(the movie that contains the graphics object taust) and the external swf is called firmast.swf.
I know i could do this when i transform the "taust" into a seperate movieclip and externaly load it into my mainmovie, and than use firmast.swf to alter the alpha on taust.swf,
but thats just what i don`t want.

In other words.... if i have one mc...and i many 100 duplicates of it.... is it possible that any one of these new mc's can find out who they were "a copy of"?

In the example movie http://www.flashkit.com/movies/Third...8108/index.php there are several things that I cannot reason out. If any advanced programmer could please explain these questions I would be VERY gratefull!
1. Why in the .txt file do they put !# before everything?
2. In the accompaning .txt file why do they put flashstudio. before thier variables?
3. I just dont understand what the flash variable cmd_name does in the MC

I have a 24kb swf loading a 21kb swf.
all vector, no bitmaps..

simple button rollovers with goto and play small 15 frame animation.
how come my flash performance is not as good as say, 2 advanced.. I'm pretty sure they have more going on in the swf's than I have in mine.
I do have a looped animation in the background.. maybe thats it..

ok, what im doing is making a dynamic picture album, and at the bottom i want a scrollable list of all the images i have so far with thumbnails...i attached a picture showing more in detail what i am trying to do...im using xml and i can load all the imformation and get it sorted right, but i just dont know how i would put thumbnails into the box and have it scrollable dynamically...ANY point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated, thank you
by the way, im also using mx2004, so maybe an AS2.0 class for creating each thumbnail and setting it all up may be the best route, but im new to AS2.0, so id need some explaination...and i dont have to worry about actually making the thumbnails in flash, they will all be loaded seperately and be the right size to begin with...so i dont have to worry about resizing them at all

I've been currently working on a game these past couple weeks and my HP bar is pretty bad. Not graphicswise. What I would like to accomplish is make the health bar decrease as every single digit is lowered down, just like most other flash games. The current HP bar just lowers down every time 10 hitpoints decrease. Not very good huh? I hope someone can help me or teach me how. Thanks.

I am a pure coder. I don't use anything on the timeline ever unless I want to separate a pre-loader from my content. In that case, my movie will have 2 frames. Otherwise, all my movies have just 1 frame.

Advanced HitTEST
I'm trying to create a hitTest where MAN, the moveable character, stops when it hits TREE, any still object that is blockable.
Is there a way to assign a hitTest to multiple TREEs (movie clips)? If not, I will create the background first and a custom clip that forms a transparent movieclip over all the TREE areas.
Either of those ways, when MAN detects TREE, he needs to stop and disable the direction he is going until undetected by TREE.
I'm thinking I can do that by setting variables each time one of the four direction keys is hit. When MAN detects TREE, it loads direction variable and disables key set to that variable. This should stop them from moving that certain direction, unless the person is faster than the script and hits another direction right when they get stuck.
It would also require that MAN stop detecting TREE until it is out, or all the keys will become disabled as long as it is detecting TREE.
I'm not sure if this was just for commentary or help. Either way, if you actually read this, put in your thoughts.

I am moving mapMC using actionscript (_x and _y positions). Here's my problem:
I need things to happen if mapMC is moved to a certain position. so if I move mapMC to _x=500 and _y=450 I want to telltarget newMC to play. How would one write such an if statement? any help is much appreciated
I really can't use hitTest because mapMC is larger than the dimensions of the movie...

I am trying to make an object that is basically an array with some extra properties, parent, and child... anyways its not exactly those values, but what i want to do is kind of like:

Hello. I've been toying with the idea of building a menu in a similar style to that shown here http://www.flashkit.com/tutorials/Ac...29/index.shtml - however, I do not want to have lines of text in my tsunami, but flash graphics that act in the same way to the example above.
My problem is that I cannot get a simple graphic to behave in the above manner, let alone a series of grouped graphics with behavious of buttons.
Can anyone push me in the right direction?

I downloaded a nice menu from flashkit, it has menus with submenus (duplicate movieclip).
But there is a problem, the submenu buttons only work with get url`s. I want them to go to a label in my main movie.
The main logic of the menus is as follows:

Somewhat Advanced Problem
I want to create an animated button (button with a movie clip in the over state) with a movie clip that will follow the mouse, ONLY when in the over state of the button. When the mouse leaves the button the movie clip wont be visible, ONLY when over! Ive seen this on sites but i cant figure it out. I owe whomever can help!!!!! PLEASE HELP FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!!

Problem: I want to control which movie clip gets duplicated. One clip, for example, is a red dot. The second clip is a blue dot. On a mouse action (press), I want to duplicate the first clip, then, perhaps I want to change to duplicating the blue dot. The changes between 'onemode' and 'twomode' will use two buttons, one button for choosing the red dot and another button for choosing the blue dot.
so, we have a minimum (ideally) of two buttons and we have two clips that could be duplicated by pressing the mouse down.
The real problem is that whatever clip is duplicated, that clip is subject to further control by scripting, so for what I want to do, I should (just) dynamically change the movie clip's name that I want to duplicate:
if 'onemode' is on, then duplicate the red dot and that movieclip's instance will be referenced in another script by the name of, say, 'mcinstancename add i'.
if 'twomode' is on, then duplicate the blue dot and that movieclip's instance will be referenced in another script by the name of, say, 'mcinstancename add i'.
I've tried using a goTo frame in the clip that is being duplicated in hopes of avoiding using a second clip altogether. That is, red dot in frame one, blue dot in frame two...didn't work.
I've tried changing instance names using properties. That only works the first time, there's no switching back to 'one mode'....can one switch names back-and-forth?

I'm trying to recreate a navigation system I've only seen once before on voxangelica.net in their archives section.
Namely the lake nav.
I'm looking for any fla's or tutorials on how to develop what I'd (a designer) call a Z-AXIS, Depth scrolling navigation system where the navigation resides on a 3D plane as opposed to the typical 2D. As a user clicks towards the horizon or moves their mouse they move in and out of the environment.
I'm posting here (actionscript 5) under the assumption that there is an actionscript answer (?).
I appreciate any feedback or direction.

I was wondering how the h*** u make those kewl advanced buttons! All the tutorial links I've tried is either broken, or the tut doesn't answer my questions..
here's the deal:
A button that presents itself (say, fade in from alpha), and LOOPS from a frame# to another frame#. If I make a presentation of it in the "up" state, it replayes the whole thing when you do a MouseOut!
one more thing: How do you tell a button to finish the "over" animation when a person removes the cursor from it? Looks weird when it just stops abruptly... :0( (EX: a button fades to red when mouse is placed over it, and fades back to the original color when mouse is removed)

Advanced Rollover
Hi there
Got a question for you all.
I have a button which when rollover plays a movie which has 20 frames. When rollout the movie plays from frame 20 back to 1. The problem I have is if I rollover and then rollout when the movie is halfway through, say frame 10, it will jump to the rollout state and play frame 20 - 1 which looks a bit jumpy.
The question is, is there a way of coding a button or an mc which plays frames 1 - 20 but if I rollout halfway through, say on frame 10 it plays the rollout movie from frame 10 - 1 and NOT 20 - 1.
