Animated Gradient With Mask Not Working...(cont)
Here's a link to the fla. I'm just starting it. I've got the text animated to the stage, the gradient animated behind the text after the text stops, but just don't understand how to get the mask to work.

Animated Gradient With Mask Not Working...
Hi, all. First time post, been lurking & learning. My question - after breaking apart & distributing to layers, my text animates in from right of stage (text has a couple of applied filters-blur, gradient glow). The effect I want is light moving across my text after the animation of the text string moving onto the stage stops. I followed a couple of tut's, but the effect only appears on the very last letter of the text string, and it appears the applied filters are gone. I think there's a problem because all letters of the text are on separate layers, and the tutorials only explain the effect with a block of text typed on a single layer, not animated. How do I get this effect to work properly? By the way...many, many thanks to all of you. I'm moving from Frontpage to Flash, and I've learned so much in a short period of time reading your posts. (Hasan, you blow me away). There are moments of so much frustration, I wonder if I'll ever get the hang of Flash! Thanks much for motion tweening me through this learning curve! JB.

Mask Of Lines Over Animated Gradient
Im sure many others as well have seen the effect where a gradient runs thru a mask of lines. Often times its seen in web host flash headers. Anyways, I have recently been trying to acheive this effect in Flash MX 2004 Pro. I have gone through countless tutorials about animated masks and 'glare effect for text'. Here is what im doing:
- I have a layer on top filled with vector lines, in white. This is set as the mask.
- I have a layer below the mask with a gradient (white w/ 0% alpha to white w/ 100% alpha to white w/ 0% alpha) moving from left side of movie to the right. This layer is being masked.
- And I have a background of a dark gradient (#006699 to #000000) left to right respectivly.
When I play the movie, all I see is the background, no lines, no gradient, no effect. I have checked to make sure that all the frames are there and that all the objects are in each frame and they are.
I have ran through tutorials for shine effects for text which is basicly what im trying to acheive with lines instead of text. It works fine with text as the mask layer.
So, why is this not working?

Dynamic Text Isn't Working With Animated Mask
Hey,
Ok so I made this text box (attached) . When you click the button an area below the trigger opens and there is text load into a dynamic text field. The problem is that when I click the button again (to close the mask) the text disapeers. It also never loads back in. Thanks in advance for any help

Gradient Mask Using JPEG As Mask
Hi there. I am trying to find a way to use loaded greyscale JPEGs to form gradient masks in Flash. Basically I want to be able to create an opacity mask just like you do in Illustrator or Photoshop, where it's the darkness of each pixel that determines opacity, rather than the alpha value.
It seems that in Flash the only way to create a gradient mask is to use a mask that has varying alpha values. I suppose that means I could use PNG files to form my mask instead, but I really need to be able to do it with JPEGs.
Perhaps there is a BitmapData filter that can convert shades of grey to degrees of alpha?

Animated Gradient Fill - BUG
I found this out the hard way!
If you want to shape-tween a linear gradient within a fill object in Flash 8 you need to use a radial gradient instead!
Flash seems to convert one to the other at run-time (which ever one you try to use).

Gradient Problem When Publishing Animated GIF
I am publishing to an Animated GIF and the gradients that I have get really rigid looking and don't maintain a smooth fade.
Does anyone know how to correct this instead of recreating the animated gif in Fireworks?
I really appreaciate any help someone may have to offer!!!

Can I Do A Mask With A Gradient?
I want to have a nice soft effect with my mask.
I want the mask to be a gradient, so that the image that is being revealed gradually appears. I tried to set one side of the gradient as transparent to achieve this.
I tried this, but it doesn't seem to work?

Using Gradient With Mask
I'm pretty new to Flash MX and 'm trying to figure out how to make a mask to text with gradient effects. I've followed two of the tutorials but I can't find a way to change the angle on the gradient. The tutorial talks about Fill Editor Tool but I can't simply find it. I really like the effect and I can make it angeled by increasing the size of the layer with gradient and then use free transform tool, but..........

Mask Gradient?
is it possible to mask with a gradient so that the part of the image that shows up is like tapered down to 1 or 0%? or does the masked portion only show up as 100%? what im trying to make is a line to follow an outline of a photo, and the tail end of the line would look great if it faded to nothing. almost like pointer trails with the pointer being 100% and the end trail being 1% or 0%. anybody understand what im getting at, or am i just telling a story to a dog.... can anybody help me?

Please Help With Gradient Mask
I am attempting to create an effect where as an image scroll off screen it will slowly fade off.
I thought about it and I think having a gradient mask above the layer would best simulate the effect. However I am having trouble getting it to work.
The process I took was I created a new graphic symbol of a rectangle, gradient filled it with white on one edge and black on the other edge (assuming white = 100% opacity); I placed the symbol on top of the image layer and changed it to mask, but I don't see the effect.
Can you tell me what I did wrong? And is there a way to create a mask that effects all the layers below it instead of just one?

Gradient Mask?
I'm fairly new to flash but I have a question that is a little more complex than I can handle. In my animation I have a free hanging lamp thats emiting light onto the background. the lamp swings in the breeze therefore the light must also swing. Is there anyway to creat this effect. I though of a gradient mask but I don't know if they exist. I've also check into the possibility of an adjustment layer like in photoshop or aftereffects. Any help you can give would be appreciated.

How Would I Do This? (gradient Mask?)
Greetings
I know the thread title is dumb, but I don't know exactly how to do what I want or what it would be called.
What I'm thinking of is a type of alpha fade in for some text, however I'd like it to fade in from the top left to the bottom right. Actually, just knowing how to fade it from top to bottom or left to right would be good.
I know a Mask can do a reveal effect, but I want it to do a fade in reveal. Like the top fades in first and works it's way down, fading in all the way to the bottom of the letter.
Can a Mask have an gradient? I just don't know how you would do that.
If anyone can give me a point in the right direction, I would be very grateful. Thanks.

Gradient Mask
I am sure I was able to do these in previous versions of flash? Yet in MX I am completely lost. I make a gradient that fades black to transparent and make it as mask, alas, no gradient effect within mask? I try white to transparent, alas, no gradient effect within mask? I even tried importing a simple gradient from illustrator, alas, no gradient in mask?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi.. I have a question about making an animated gradient mask.
I used this actionscript:

It works properly on the scene 1. However, when I put this animation on a movie clip, the gradient doesn't work. I've tried to add the movie clip instance name in the code, but still doesn't work.

Mask/Gradient Question?
I have some text that I want to make a mask layer.
I have several lines done my different text tool options (I clicked on the text too several times) and moved the text to where I wanted it! The problem is that when I try to turn that layer into a mask...only a couple words turn into a mask. WHy is that?..I tried grouping all the text together..making it a graphic..everything I could think of. Can someone tell me how to fix this? Thanks. -whispers-

Transparency Gradient Mask
I made one (a gradient that is 100% alpha to 0%)in photoshop maybe a year ago to use in flash as a mask that could slid in and make something slowly appear instead of all at once. The problem is, I can't for the life of me figure out how to recreate it. I vaguely remember that it had to do with what file type i saved it as from photoshop, but I've tried em all and they don't work! Any help on this would be appreciated.

Hi, is there anyway to use a gradient as a mask in flash? I want a word to appear but if I use a normal mask it appears too sharp. I want it to appear like at http://www.content.overture.com/d/home/
on the top flash movie with the woman, the words fade in. If you see the flash movie with the man click refresh and you will see the movie with the woman.

Mask With Gradient Transparency?
Is it at all possible to create a mask that includes a gradiently-transparent fill? For example, if I wanted to make text appear as though it were fading out from right to left or vice versa. When I attempted to do something like this, I initially tried creating a masking area with a linear gradient fill with one end set to 100% alpha and the other set to 0%. One would think that placing this masking area over a row of text would cause the desired effect. However, the mask behaved as though it were simply a solid fill. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of a sure-fire way to produce the desired effect? Thanks very much!
