Animating With Anti Alias For Readability Text

i would like to fade in a movieclip that contains text with the anti alias for readability option selected. however, when i try to do so the text inside the clip does not fade in properly (it doesn't fade at the same rate as the clip; instead it fades only a little and then bangs in hard at the end). i don't want to use anti-alias for animation due to appearance. if anyone knows any magic tricks, please help. thanks.

Problems With The Text (Anti-alias For Readability)
I have some problems with the text clarity in Flash while testing with
different versions of the flashplayer. Actually i always set the text
clarity to "Anti-alias for Readability", which gives a better clarity
to the text when compared with "Anti-alias for Animation".

But the "Anti-alias for Readability" is supported only from
FlashPlayer 8. So how can i give a better clarity to the text
compatible with FlashPlayer 6 and above?

Also, is it possible to test the SWF files with different version of
FlashPlayer in the same pc?

Dynamic Text (HTML) Vs Anti-Alias For Readability
Hello Everyone,

I have a website that is using the new fancy Anti-alias for Readability feature in Flash 8. All is fine and well however, when using this with a Dynamic Textbox rendering HTML funny things start happening. When rolling over a link, kerning for the entire section of text changes slightly and reverts to normal when rolling out.

See the "Home" section on this site for a real live example of the problem: http://www.mercuryfilmworks.com/mercury_filmworks.html

The question is, what is going on here? I don't really understand the problem let-alone know how to fix it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Anti-alias For Readability Bug
Hi folks,

Just a quick heads-up on a little 'bug'-type feature in Flash 8, which we've just figured out.

If you use a Flash 7 movie to load in Flash 8 content, the new player renders dynamic and input fields properly with the 'readability' setting, BUT static text is rendered in the old way, even though you specified its rendering as 'readability'.

Anti Alias For Readability Trouble
I set the text in my flash project to anti-alias for readability and it broke my swf in IE. It runs fine without this feature, but with it, it looses functionality in IE.

Works fine in FF though either way. Has anyone seem this before or know of any bugs that cause this? WOuld love to have the anit-aliasing on if at all possible. Makes the text look much better.

Thanks!

Anti-alias For Readability On A Component?
Spent the last few hours looking around the web for this, was wondering if anybody could help me with this.

I have a font embedded for a List component. It displays the text anti-aliased, but I would really like to have Flash display the text in the component as "anti-alias for readability," any ideas?

Anti-alias For Readability Issue
Hello everyone,

I'm having an issue with anti-aliasing text in Flash 8. I'm using the new 'anti-alias for readability' option in Flash 8 (exported AS2 for use with flash player 8+) and it works great both in the authoring environment and also when I export the SWF. However, when I embed it in a HTML page it looses it's sharpness and it doesn't look as good. Does anyone know how I can sort this problem out?

Thanks in advance

[F9] Anti-Alias For Readability In Flash Player Version 9
Hello forum members!

I am not sure if someone else already reported this issue, but I'll post it anyway...

When you use Anti-Alias for readability as a text rendering method in Flash 8 and let's say for example, you publish your movie without setting any background, just place that text on the stage. Then when you embed that same Flash movie into your HTML but using WMODE TRANSPARENT option, you get some nasty lines on the top and at the bottom of the text. Changing the browser doesn't make any difference. As soon as you add some background (even simple square under your text) in your Flash movie, text looks good and lines are gone.
I am not sure is this happening just with Flash player version 9 because I use it at the moment, or is it the same situation with flash player 8 as well.

I just reported this to Macromedia (Adobe) and I hope someone will do something to fix this problem soon.

Best Regards!

Here is a screenshot to show everything little bit closer:

Anti-alias For Readability Problems When Loading External Swfs
Text will not anti-alias when I load in external swfs with anti-alias for readability text inside. This option only seems to work on text that is on the root timeline.

Is there a way to fix this, i.e. maybe to force the option via actionscript?

It seems to me that loading in a swf with this text option, actually disables the anti-alias for readability.

Thanks,
Mark

AntiAliasType Set To "advanced" / Anti-alias For Readability
Has anyone successfully used the "antiAliasType" property of a text field?

I'm trying to use code to generate a text field identical to a dynamic text field with "Anti-alias for readability." According the Flash help, the antiAliasType property set to "advanced" should do that.

However, antiAliasType set to "advanced" looks identical to when it is set to "normal" (the default). It definitely does not look like a dynamic text field with "Anti-alias for readability."

Anti Anti-alias Text
Hi, everybody!

I´m wondering about using static text,
´cause if smooths the fonts too much
and causes it to be almost unreadable.

Well...

I guess that this trouble can be solved
by using dynamic text, but in flash MX,
when you´re using dynamics text boxes,
it gives your swf too many parameters
refering to only a text box.

I don´t want to pump a huge amount of
parameters and useless values without
a need of that.

So... I want to know if is there another
way to prevent the fonts to smooth
instead of using dynamic boxes.

Is there a way?

Thanx in advance.

How To Not Anti-alias Text?
I'm having a problem turning off anti-aliasing in my text, I tried having the text within a movie clip and using:

onClipEvent(load) {
this._highquality = 0;
}

it doesn't anti-alias - but damn, it looks like crap? When I do the same in photoshop with the same font size and all, it looks fine. The font i'm using is Arial 10pt ... and it comes out wretched! Any help?

Anti Alias Text?
I am using Mx and it doesn't seem to matter if I choose ant-alias or not my letters are still jaggy edge.

what the heck can I do to get rid of this?

Thank you

Anti-alias Text
MX2004 Pro

I've got some fixed dynamic text (dynamic because I want to scroll it) that the client wants in italic font at 14 point.

Whilst the normal font looks great, the italic looks poor due to lack of anti-aliasing. I can't find an anti-alias option for this type of text.

Is there a way to have text within a FLA that is rendered using anti-aliasing, or is that only available for external HTML text?

Anti-alias Text?
I notice all the text I created in Flash does not have anti-alias turned on... is there a way to do anti-alias besides going back to bitmap and importing them to Flash?

Anti-alias Text From XML?
Ok, I searched for this topic, and haven't come up with a definitive answer, so I thought I'd ask.

I have some text pulling in from an XML file, and then displaying in a dynamic text box (we'll label it message1). When the text is displayed, there is no anti-aliasing on it, even though the text box was set to anti-alias for animation. I read in a similar post that embedding a font would allow this. Would that work, or do I need to try something else?

Dynamic Text Anti-alias? How?
I have a dynamic text box that keeps the score...but the text isn't anti-alias..is it possible and how?

Anti-alias Dynamic Text?
Hey,

My movie is loading external text files during playtime but it seems that the text in those isn't anti-aliased. It looks all coarse!

Anyone know why this may be? I would've thought it should automatically be anti-alias.. Tried looking in properties in Flash but can't spot anything out of the ordinary..

Is there a way I can specify this? The texts are stored as variables in normal notepad text files by the way..

Would really appreciate it if anyone can help!
Thanks

Turning Anti-Alias Text Off
Hi People of Wealth and Knowledge,
I find it's better to always kiss a little fanny before asking for something.
Anyway I want to turn off the anti-aliasing on my text in the flash movie.
Although I turned it off in the "view" menu it is still anti-aliased in the movie.
Any way to control this?
I'm using a pixel font called Mini7 which is meant to be pixelated.
but Flash keeps bluring the font.
What is my workaround if there is one.
Thanks,

Anti-Alias Text Problem
Hey all, I have a dynamic text field that has bitmap text. I then nest that text field into a movieClip so I can make it respond to a scrollbar. But when I do the text becomes anti-alias. Anybody know why or how to stop it from doing this? Thanks, Dvl

Anti-alias HTML Text?
Hi there,

I wonder if it is possible at all to anti-alias text fields with the HTML property set to true.

Currently I already have an operation HTML text field with embedded font which loads an external CSS for styling. I would like to 'soften' the font by using anti-alias, does anyone know if this is possible?

Thanks,

How Do You Make Text Not Anti-alias?
I'm using verdana or somethign in Flash MX and I don't want it to to be smooth, i want it to be jaggedy and pixelly.

HELP!

Anti Alias Text Issue
Hi,

can you please help me with the following:

Pretty often it happens to me that when I want to make a textbox (no matter whether it is static or dynamic) using verdana-font, anti aliasing turned off, and set its position to a full pixel value, the textbox is automatically transformed to 100.03% (in height and/or width) or a similar value.
When I fix the value in the transform-panel to 100% the position of the textbox changes to a comma-value. Strange, isn't it?
Of course the text then looks blurred.

How can I achieve that a non-anti-aliased textbox sticks to a full pixel value and is not transformed?

SetMask Bug With Anti-alias Text
In my search for the almighty solution to dynamic anti-aliased text being displayed through a mask I discovered a bug. Not sure if its native to Flash 8 or across the board.

Dynamic text does not respond to the complete shape of a mask set with actionscript, it only responds to the bounding box.

Check out this example: http://www.triggermotion.com/flash/mask_bug.html

All of the sites I build have a ton of xml driven text content that typically resides behind a mask. The masking is fine if the text is aliased, though I prefer to use anti-aliases text as I find it easier on the eyes.

If you've got a solution I've missed, I'll buy you a beer.

Anti Alias Text Probs
I am having a prob anti aliasing my text in my moive. I tried both arial and times at 16 font size. I also convert the text to a graphic. I do need to do that to fade up with the alpha control, right? Anti-alias looks great on the stage. I am delighted with the look....but.....when I publish and look at it in a browser...it doesnt look anti-aliased at all. Anything step I am missing?

This is my first site with MX..I was doing so well with flash 4 ! lol at 4!

Thanks for any help you can give.

Scrolling Non Anti-alias Text
Got some small text that I want to scroll. When its anti-alias its a bit blury. Dont want the anti-alias. When I set to use device fonts and put it on a mask layer for the scroll area it doesnt appear when you publish. If you untick 'use device fonts' it appear when you publish.

If I make any sense, please help.

What is the common way to make a single text box non anti-alias and be scrollable?

Only Anti-alias Text Possible In Textfield MC? Flash5
Hi,

I have a MC which has scrolling functionality. In it, I have a textfield that will only be displayed anti-aliased. But I want to use device font since the rest of the site has dynamic textfields and not static textfields. Is it possible to show device fonts within a mc?

The thing is that this MC also contains images that need to scroll along with the text, that's why I had to make a MC instead of a scrolling textfield.

Thank you en regards,

Failed To Eliminate Anti Alias In Text.
Hi, I'm using a static text (arial, 12 pt) and then uncheck the alias option in the properties.
It seemed to work but after I keep on working somehow when I test my swf, the text will always aliased even I allready check the aliased option many many times..
this sucks... I'm using small text and aliasing the text will make them unreadable..
If I paste my textbox into a new movie the alias option works.. this is confusing to me.. I didn't change the quality nor anything, I haven't used any actionscript either..
what's wrong ??

Anti Alias Text + Masks Problems Pls Help
Hi,

i am creating a site using flash's new built in anti alias text option.

i am only using verdana in a menu system. i want the text to uncover under a mask. whenever i put the text under a mask some of it goes really blurry. i also tried staggerring the text in the movie clip so each piece of text comes in at a frame interval. when the text is moved off the first frame of the mc it also goes blurry???

i have used pixel fonts before and have tried moving the anti alias text around (to whole numbers etc) but nothing seems to work?? is it a flash bug?

any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated

Keyboard Shortcut For Anti-alias Text
Hi, I've been finishing up a huge project, it's largely text based and now that it's gone through QA, there is a problem with blurriness. The font is set to arial, font size 12, aliased (pixelated) but as soon as i navigate through any swfs, it goes blurry. I have tried literally everything else, but setting it back to anti-aliased, obviously makes it look okay.

Well, I have to go back and set all the text to anti-aliased now, so I was wondering is there a keyboard shortcut that I can use to change a text box to anti-aliased quickly?

I have about 2000+ text boxes to go through so anything that could speed up the process would be really appreciated.

Anti-alias And Dynamic Text That STRETCHES
I'm using Flash 8.
I have a button that loads dynamic text into a Text box using this actionscript.

on (release) {
loadText = new LoadVars();
loadText.load("sometext.txt");
loadText.onLoad = function(success) {
if (success) {
// trace(success);
_root.textBox.outsideFilename.htmlText = this.externaltext;
}
};
}

Everything works fine -- EXCEPT when I use "Anti-alias for readability" (and use a non-standard font and embed certain character sets) all the text in the Text Box comes out elongated up and down -- it comes out looking stretched for some reason. Why is Flash doing that? How can I prevent that? What am I doing wrong? Because it looks horrible with the particular font that I want to use. Thanks for any advice.

Applying Anti-alias To Loaded Text
Would someone please explain to me once and for all how to apply anti-alias with actionscript to a loaded text ! Is all you have to do use textField.antiAliasType ? Do you have to embed the font ? Is it necessary to apply a text format as well ? Pls explain.

And another question about loaded text:
If I have a mask applyed to a dynamic text, do I need to embed the font outlines for it to be visible ? If wes, why ?

Change Anti Alias On All Text Boxes
Hi all

does anyone know a way to quickly change the anti alias settings for every text box in a flash movie? Are there any custom commands out there that will do it?

Thanks in advance

Problems With Dynamic Text - No Anti-Alias
Hi.... I'm having problems using dynamic text in flash. I need a text area that can hold a lot of code. I would like to use a monospace font, small size, scrollable text area and NO anti-alias. Shouldn't be a problem, right?

Well it seems to be. With a dynamic text field, the text WILL NOT display when set to _typewriter. I've never had this problem before, usually text won't display only when I'm using anti-alias settings and don't embed the fonts, not when I'm NOT using anti-alias. Also in the past, unless I'm dynamically rotating the font, it should default to a device font even if I forget to embed.

So how can I get a small, crisp looking font on a scrollable text area? Does the TA HAVE to be dynamic to be scrollable? Is there something I'm not remembering about using _typewriter/_sans/_serif device fonts? This is such a strange problem. I've tried other fonts...courier, arial. NONE of them will display... they only display when embedding and then they look like crap because they're small and anti-aliased...someone help!

Problem With Text Field Anti-alias
Hi, there's something wrong with the anti-alias for text fields.

When I apply anti-alias for readability to an input text field, it looks anti-aliased, but when I play the swf file, it's not (like bitmap text).

On a static text field everything is normal. This problem only occurs, when i use input or dynamic text fields. Can you help me?

EDIT: I'm using Flash CS3

Anyway To Set List Compenent To NOT Anti-alias Text?
As you may know, pixel fonts are tiny sized, specifically created to NOT be anti-aliased. You use them at 8 pixel size, with anti-aliasing set to "bitmap (no anti-alias)".

But I cannot find how to specify this type of setting for a List Component. I can embed the font, and get it to use the font, but it anti-aliases it. Any ideas? Thanks,

MX Dynamic Text Anti Alias Question
I created a file in MX 2004 Professional with some dynamic text to show the date. Can I make the date text show smoother by anti aliasing it? I typed some static text to test it out and the static text looks great, but the dynamic text looks really jagged, even though they both have anti alias applied.

TIA!

Dynamic Text Anti-alias Trouble
I have a menu with MovieClips working as buttons. When the mouse is over the button a short description is supposed to show up next to the menu. It work fine, but I want to make the dynamic text anti-aliased. To do that I have to embed the font, and when I do that no text shows.

Note: The value "This one shows..." below is visible before any button is "hovered", but then it disappears when you're over a button.

The font is imported to the library and is callad Verdana-Edo and link for AS export.
"Knapp_mc" & "Knapp_mc2" are the two buttons.

How can this be solved?

Here's the AS: (located in separate layer in frame 1 in the Stage 1 Timeline)

stop();

var my_fmt:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
my_fmt.font = "Verdana-Edo";

this.createTextField("textruta2", this.getNextHighestDepth(), 30, 30, 190, 45);
textruta2.text ="This one shows...";
textruta2.wordWrap = false;
textruta2.embedFonts = true;
textruta2.border = true;
textruta2.setTextFormat(my_fmt);
textruta2.antiAliasType = "advanced";

Knapp_mc.onRollOver = function () {
textruta2.text ="Hello world";
this.reverser_mc.gotoAndStop(1);
this.play(1);}

Knapp_mc.onRollOut = function () {
this.reverser_mc.gotoAndPlay(2);
textruta2.text = "";}

Knapp_mc.onPress = function () {
this.gotoAndStop(17); }

Knapp_mc.onRelease = function () {
this.gotoAndStop(1); }

Knapp_mc2.onRollOver = function () {
this.reverser_mc.gotoAndStop(1);
this.play(1);
textruta2.text = "Menu button hint"; }

Knapp_mc2.onRollOut = function () {
this.reverser_mc.gotoAndPlay(2);
textruta2.text = ""; }

Knapp_mc2.onPress = function () {
this.gotoAndStop(17); }

Knapp_mc2.onRelease = function () {
this.gotoAndStop(1); }

Create Text Box, Then Anti-Alias (mx2004)
This may be a stupid question, but i've done a bit of searching and come up with nothing.

I am trying to anti alias text boxes that i have create dynamically. I create the text format, then the text box, then set it's contents, then apply the format. None of the fonts in these text boxes are aliased....Anyone?
