Smooth Animation
hi,

I have been playing around with animation in Flash 5, but it just doesn't seem to run smoothly and quickly, like many of the animations I have seen when I play it. I have tried low and high frame rates, but it still seems jagged. Can anyone help?
Thanks

Smooth Animation?
I have a blackboard image that I have saved in my library as a button. I have this animated over 48 frames to look as if it is a blackboard bobbing up and down in midair. I also have a shadow underneath which is animated accordingly to enhance the effect.

I would like to add interaction so that when the mouse is clicked over the bobbing blackboard it expands, as if it is coming to the front of the screen.

I am having trouble understanding how I can make this happen smoothly. Obviously the mouse click can occur at any time throughout the animation and therefore the board can be at various positions on the screen. I have tried looping these 48 frames until the mouse click then going to a new frame and carrying on the animation from here. This makes the blackboard literally jump depending on where the blackboard is at the time of the mouse click (up or down).

Is it achievable to have the blackboard expand (as if it is coming to the front of the screen) seamlessly from whichever point in mid-air it is when the mouse click is made.

Am I in the right direction in thinking that I will need to somehow tell the movie to carry on playing until a particular frame is reached whereby the following part of the animation (the blackboard expanding) will look smooth?
The script will effectively say: if frames are less than frame ??, then carry on until frame ??, then play frame ??

I hope this message is comprehendible for I am only a newbie…

Hi,

Am starting to create motion and shape tweens but for some reason, the animation on my screen appears jerky. This is nothing to do with the fps setting I have tried this already. Can anyone help?

Thanks,

How To Smooth Out Animation?
I'm creating a small opening sequence for a Flash page, and the animation gets pretty jerky about half-way through it:

http://www.reflexblue.org/a1/Reflexblue2.html

Are there any general things I can do to smooth this out? I don't see why it should be jerking up either... I'm only tweening vector graphics and text, and only around a dozen separate tweens at any one time. Any explanation would be great, thanks.

Smooth Animation
Hi guys.
I am trying to get an animation running smoothly but am really struggling.

I have a map of the world as from a birds eye view, and I want to achive the effect of a plane diving towards the earth, then pulling up before crashing.

I have got something which I have attached to this post but I just can't get it to 'pull up' smoothly.

Can you help me work out how to create a nice smooth 'pull up' effect?

As a side issue, I was wondering if there is an easy way of randomly making pictures of houses appear on the map, but ensure they only appear on the land?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Damian.

is there anyway to use actionscript to animate "object a" from "point a" to "point b" as a result of clicking on "object b"?

I have a ball that is supposed to sorta slide to the right and then back again when I click on a link in my webpage...I can get it to jump from one point to another...but you can't see any movement...it's just in one spot one second and then other spot the next...

does any of that make sense??

Smooth Animation?
Hello, I am currently trying to update my portfolio and once again I find that I know nothing about actionscript and am having difficulty making it perform the way I want it to!

Here is a link to the file:
click me!

When you roll over the navigation at the bottom I would like the new image to come up and then go back down when you roll off. It does this kindof now, but it's jumpy... on rollover I do a telltarget(outdated I know) to a movie clip that rolls up... and then a telltarget to the same movie clip where it rolls down.

What I'd LIKE it to do is to know where it it is when the user rolls off the button so it doesn't suddenly jump all the way to the top to then go all the way down again.

Can anyone help?!

Thanks!

Animation Not Smooth
Hi, i've implemented upwards scrolling news by loop animation:

there are 10 text items one beneath the other and a simple animation of the list going upwards, to make it look as if it loops all the time this list of items repeats the first couple items, so: list of 1,2,3...10,1,2,3 text lines.

the animation of going upwards goes from frame 1 to frame 100, 2 key frames: at frame 1 the list is in x=0 and y=0, and in key frame 100: x = 0 and y 500.

The problem is that the animation is not smooth - it looks as if it scrolls up by jumping small "jumps".. i m using MX (not 2004).

Thanks in advance,
Maya Malimovka.

Smooth Animation
Hi,

I am creating a presentation, where I have used gradients, etc. in the background. The problem is that the animation (zoom in or fade in and out) becomes very sluggish, it appears with jerks (not smooth).

Can anybody please tell me how smooth animations can be created in flash and also what are the things to be considered for a much smoother effect.

Thanks,
Swapna

Animation Not Smooth
I am tweening about 30 logos across the screen and the animation is not smooth at all... it's a little jerky. I have played with the frame rate and added frames, etc.

Do you have any idea what may be causing this?

Thanks,

Smooth Animation.
Well i've been trying to learn Flash for about 2 days now. And i've been trying to get really smooth animation. Such as this example: http://newgrounds.com/portal/view/184506 .
Would I have to raise the frame rate alot higher and make alot more frames? Or would I have to make more keyframes and change it more?

I've also been wondering how to make a stick man kick or punch or whatever smoothly, even walking smooth would be nice. Thanks for your help.

Smooth Animation
I am tring to create a leaf fling through the air twisting, folding and bending, What is the best method for this animation?

thank You.

Smooth Animation
I'm new to Flash and Actionscript!

I am trying to create a progress bar with a progress indicator much like what you would see in a movie player like Windows Media Player etc.

My problem is that the progress indicator moves so jerky along the assigned area.

I have used BitmapData to create smooth motions on a picture before (Ken Burns effect), but for some reason I can't get this to go smooth.

I have read several people saying just increase the frame rate; but - I didn't need to do that when it comes to the smooth zooming into a picture, so I don't think that is the solution here either (I have tried without success).

I am using mcMovieClip.tween("_x",mcMovieClip._x + 10,1,"Linear");
The movie clip was created using CreateEmptyMovieClip and then drawing a box using LineTo and BeginFill. This is the box I want to slide in a smooth motion along the x-axis.

It sounds so simple, and it probably is, but I just cant get it to work

Anyone ?

Need To Smooth Out This Animation
I have this client that wants a presentation done at 1360X768 with some pretty heavy animation that wants to look as if it is skipping even at a high frame rate. I know there is the updateAfterEvent fucntion for mouse moves, but is there a way to use that for all animation or a similar bit of script to smooth it all out?

here is a link to the beginnings of a scene that is just really heavey with broken apart text and I need it to be fast and smooth.

Which FPS For Smooth Animation?
I'm a new flash user and I'm having trouble making a simple animation (small bitmap single color airplane motion tweened to move across the background) for a website. FPS is set to 21 but when i test the movie, the animation is choppy & not smooth at all. If i try 60FPS, it's very smooth but I think that'd be ridiculously high for a website.
Please take a look at this link because I want my animation to be as smooth as this, what FPS do you think they used here?

http://www.taito.co.jp

What are some other options for me to retain a 21FPS swf file and still keep my animation as smooth as possible? or are people just using really high FPS to achieve this? Please help me...thank you.

Hey there...I've notice on some sites (www.amplifier.com, and the menu on www.heavy.com) that they have achieved animation smoother than I ever have been able to.

Are they doing anything special? I've made my animations 31fps, as suggested by Kirupa. But still have some rough spots despite easing in/out.

Thanks for any pointers that anybody may have and be willing to share!

Smooth Animation
Could people give me tips on making smooth animation. Iv'e tried using flashes tween class, iv'e tried using laco's tween class, i've tried writing my own tween class, but i can never seem to get multiple smooth tweens. I.e. if i go past something like 4-2 animations (depending on type) at a time they start to get choppy and yet i have seen websites where they must have something like 5-8 animations going on at one time (for transitions etc.) and yet appear perfectly smooth most of the time.
The comp i'm on is reasonable and so shouldnt be causing choppiness (and its not the frame rate i'm using - i'm not a complete noob lol).

How does it happen? Is it all actionscript or tweening or a combination? I just saw the thread for stenkat.com and all his animations are smooth. Can someone explain? Just using Stenkat because it's the site that I just saw. There are obviously others. I just can't seem to grasp how smooth efx are made.

Smooth Animation Problem
Hello, i created a flash movie with some vector arrows ... when i play the movie, the arrows move smooth ... Now i added an animated gif ( of a butterfly ) and my movie doesn't play smooth anymore when the butterfly shows up. You can see the example on http://www.bokrijks-gasthof.be/indexnl.html ! ( it takes about 15 seconds before the butterfly shows up )
Why isn't my movie playing smooth anymore ? Is it because i use Gif files ? And what can i do about it ? i preloaded the gif files so that isn't the problem i guess ...

Can somebody give me some clues ?

Smooth Out The Choppiness, Animation
Hey Gang,

I have a simple maze game and have tried a number of various (programmatic) ways to get a smooth motion on the characters, but have been unsuccessful. I can't imagine that four characters moving on screen at the same time would cause this. Does anyone have any suggestions. The characters use the same function to move 5 pix. The hero uses onKeyDown to execute the move funct, the villians use an onLoad setInterval to execute the move function, if that matters.

Help With Smooth Character Animation
I posted this thread on the Flash MX board also (because I am using MX), but I figured that this kind of thing would probably go into General Help.
I am having some trouble making characters and animating them. My goal is to be able to create characters, and be able to pose them at keyframes, and tween them so they move from pose to pose somewhat smoothly. However, to use motion tweens doesn't let me connect the pieces, so they disconnect and look really awkward. I can connect them into groups, but then I can't use any kind of tween with them. The attatchment is an example of both techniques, both trying to do the same thing (an arm kind of flexing), so you can see what I mean, particularly with the disconnection with tweens. If anyone has any pointers or tricks or advice, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!

Animation Is Slow Then Smooth
I am working on this animation in flash, but it looks jumpy and not smooth towards the middle of the frames. my frame rate is 24. I notice it when I look at the birds, they start off slow and jumpy and then get smooth. Any reason for this, can i make it smooth?

Smooth Animation Problem
I am trying to learn ActionScript and am recreating Asteroids as an exercise. It's a work in progress. I'm not happy with the animation and know there must be something wrong with the code. It seems choppy when the ship moves faster. I've attached the file. Any pointers would be appreciated

Smooth Animation On(release)
I know this has been asked before, but I can't find an answer that helps me. I'm trying to script a button so that on(release) it moves to another position.

on(release) {
if(mc._y<34) {
mc._y = (mc._y+5);
}
}

When I test the movie, the clip moves 5 frames and stops each time the button is pressed. Can someone please explain what I can do to make the clip move smoothly all the way to it's final destination?

Thank you for your time and patience. I realize I may be overlooking something small, but just can't see it.

Flash Animation Not Smooth
The animation I am currently working on is at a rate of 30 fps and when I test the movie and export it out to test it my animation becomes jumpy and doesn't run at the specified frames per second. I would like to know what can be done to improve/ fix this situation.

Flash Animation, Not Really Smooth
Hello everybody,

I am working on an application that allows the user to generate flash banners. The user includes his own images in the animation, and can change a few parameters. An example can be seen here: http://www.macgeneration.com/labo/voir/126992/test-du-iomega-ultramax-pro-1.5-to/3 (scroll down to the middle of the page, the banner is titled "Une petite galerie pour finir… " .)

As you can see on this example, the animation isn't really smooth. The images movemement isn't really regular. The animation framerate is 24 fps, so I expected it to move better.

At first, I thought the problem came from my actionscript code, or from the number of size of images. So I tried somethig much simpler: I opened Flash CS3, started a new animation at 24 fps. drew a 100*100px rectangle at (0,0) on the first frame. Added a keyframe at frame 60 and moved the rectangle to (450,0) added a motion tween.
I then tested the animation and could see the same fault: the flash animation isn't fluid.

I am a bit disappointed by Flash, shouldn't Flash do such a simple movement in a smoother way ?
On the other hand, I've seen wonderful things made with Flash - like papervision 3d for example - that seemed really smooth. So, have I missed something ? Is there an option to activate to improve animation or something like that ?

For the moment, the only parameter that improves my simple animation is to increase framerate, but I don't think this should be necessary: 24 fps is plenty for such a simple motion.

Anyway, I'm really confused right now, and I'd like to have your opinion about it.

Thanks

Smooth, Fast Animation
Hi Guys,

I'm developing a new site but am having trouble getting the animated movements of clips really smooth and fast.

check here for an example of what I mean.

I've been playing around with image blurs and recording at a higher frame rate but nothing looks as smooth as the example.

Can any one give me any pointers or direct me to some helpful tutorials?

Smooth Animation/motion?
Hi,

I am very puzzled in how people are able to achieve smooth animation/motion in Flash MX.

Here is an example of what I am talking about...

http://www.blitzds.com/Flash/Clients...mepage_ie.html

Notice how the menus slide in and out very quick and smooth. How would you achieve the same effect using a bunch of lines?

thanks in advance.

Smooth Motion Animation
This may be a stupid question but how can I get my animations to look realy smooth? The motion that I get from my tweens and action script never moves like I want it too. I see other designers websites and the always seem to have such nice movement. Is there a best FPS that a designer should work with or what? Any tips from anyone would be great.

How To Make A Smooth Animation?
Hi friends

This is my major problem since I started to work with flash,
Look at this simple 360 viewer.
Its just an image that moves when you move the mouse. I used the traditional onEnterFrame() to make the animation. But as you see the transition is not smooth( jumps sometimes), I thought it's because the frame rate is not constant, so I tried to set positions using the time difference between frames but it didn't work either. I really don't know why it's happening.

Does anyone know how can we make a smooth transition?

Here is the code I used for animation:

Code:
speed=10;
this.onEnterFrame=function(){
img._x += (Stage.width/2-_xmouse)/speed;
if(img._x>0) img._x = 0;
if(img._x<Stage.width-img._width) img._x = Stage.width-img._width;
}
Here is the code which is using time difference:

Code:
this.onEnterFrame=function(){
d = new Date();
time = d.getTime();
dt = time-lasttime;
lasttime = d.getTime();

speed=500;
img._x+=((Stage.width/2-_xmouse)/speed)*dt;
if(img._x>0) img._x=0;
if(img._x<Stage.width-img._width)img._x=Stage.width-img._width;
}
and here is the .fla

I appreciate for any helps.
