Anti-aliasing Issues
Is there a way to set some master anti-aliasing control with actionscript? When I draw vector shapes (ie a square or circle) often times the edges are anti-aliased just like fonts. I don't want this. I want everything to have very sharp edges. I can achieve this sometimes by simply "trimming" off the edges of the shapes, but then if i move the shapes or resize them, the smoothing comes back. Is there anything that can be done about this?

Anti-aliasing Issues
Hi,
I'm having a problem with bitmaps in flash. I'm not a hero with flash but for the site I'm currently making flash would be a good choice, so I picked up all my courage and started the program again (flash has never been my friend to be honoust...)
I'm sure everybody knows http://www.whoswe.com, well I'm making a site that's pretty similar in how it's built. It's a flash site that makes extensive use of bitmaps. But I'm not too happy about the way flash handles them. To see what I mean, visit these two links:
1. http://users.pandora.be/djsteven/index.htm
2. http://users.pandora.be/djsteven/index_flash.htm
N°1 is pure html and the links are working. It's a big image sliced up in photoshop.
N°2 is my flash test. I'm not sure how to begin constructing such a site in flash, so I started to import all the slices and aligned them nicely so everything fits (I used snap to pixels to place every slice perfectly).
Then I just exported as swf and placed it in a html file (the same one as the html-version site, I just replaced that table with this swf, the vertical lines you see are a background image of the table and not part of the swf!!!)
Now I come to the point!
Look closely at the flash version in the region of the navigation. You'll see clearly where the slices are located because of some weird shifts in the image (anti aliasing issues???). Inspect the html version and see how it should be.
Also the borders of the swf rectangle are weird. My swf is wider than it should be, altough I entered the right width and height. There are also weird borders that shouldn't be there.
I hope you see my problem, it's a detail but it's very very annoying.
Anybody knows the reason for this? And some solutions too... Oh yeah, while working at 100% zoom in flash itsself, the problem is not there! So the problem only occurs after publishing/exporting to swf!
Please help me out here! It's a huge problem, even http://www.whoswe.com has this problem is some areas! If this can't be fixed one way or another I consider flash as a useless tool, because it messes up images that took hours to create in 3D programs, I don't want the quality to be poor in flash.
Kind regards,
flipside
Anti Aliasing Off........?
Hi,
Is it possible to turn off the anti aliasing of a text-field?? I want sharp edged fonts, but Flash keeps aliasing them...

Where's The Anti-Aliasing? (please Help Me)
I've been wrestling with this for a while now.
Whenever I output something from MX the anti-aliasing seems to go out of the window, and all my text and vectors look appalling.
I can't find anything which suggests that I have to turn some setting on. I really need to sort this out or at least know whether I can or not... so that I can look for other ways of achieveing what I'm trying to do.
PLEASE HELP ME!
Many thanks
Anti-Aliasing
How do you make a bitmap in a Flash presentation so that it is anti-aliased when published to an .exe file? I have several screen shots in a presentation. The presentation was designed at 800x600. However, when it is viewed at 1024x768, the text on the screen shots looks horrible. The obvious answer would be, don't let them look at it at 1024x768. But, they want the presentation to open at full screen, so it all depends on what resolution someone's monitor is set at. The weird thing is, when you zoom in on the .FLA file, it does appear anti-aliased. So why isn't it publishing that way?
Anti-aliasing
is there a way to increase the anti-aliasing in flash? my smaller images look like crap! thanks
Anti-aliasing
hi have made a small flash banner in which there is a series of images that fade into each other. and the images seem to have lines of movement with in them. i think that is called aliasing...but i might be just being stupid. does anyone know of a way to stop this?
appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Anti-aliasing In AS 3.0
I'm searching for about 2 days now a replacement of (forceSmoothing in AS 2.0).
Those anybody knows how to do that in AS 3.0, I mean after a .jpg is loaded if it is scaled it looks very bad.
In AS 2.0 the MovieClip.forceSmoothing proprety is working, but in AS 3.0 is not.
What can I use in instead of forceSmoothing?
Thank you.
Using CSM For Anti-aliasing
Can anyone give me a pure AS example for using the CSM. I tried the examples in the docs but I couldn't get them working.
Anti-aliasing Graphics
... do illustrator graphics automatically get anti-aliased in flash, or is there some trick to activate this feature? especially fine lines appear to "pop-out" and make everything look unprofessional.
i tried copy and paste, and saving the ai as an swf and importing, but still bad results. please anyone, some ideas?
thanx

Anti-aliasing Question
I'm just starting to dig into flash mx. I'm curious if there is a way to prevent flash from exporting gifs that are designed with pixel precision to NOT alias them when exporting.

Text Anti Aliasing
Hi people...
i'm using MX and wondered, is there a way to turn off 'anti aliasing' for text?
I'm trying to display 'verdana 9pt' and would prefer it to be seen nice and clear like a browser would display it...
any thoughts?
thanks :)
Sharpness And Anti Aliasing
I am trying to make my new SWF very blocky and retro looking. But when I view it, the edges of certain things looked very smoothed out where as I want things to look very PIXELY. Even the lines that a draw with the paintbrush in the block brush still look smooth... Can anyone help me. Is there a way to turn off a smoothing option? Thanks in advance.

Text - Anti-aliasing
Hi,
Has anyone noticed that text looks great when it's just normal text, but as soon as you make it dynamic it's no longer anti-aliased and looks jagged and generally a bit pants?
If so, has anyone discovered a way so fix it or do we just have to put up with it?
Cheers,
O.
Text Anti-aliasing
I imported a file from illustrator.. or rather, exported the file to swf and imported it to flash mx 2004.
the text of the movie will not anti-alias.
i have tried turning the alias button both on and off, neither has any effect.
on a side note, the text is supposed to rotate, and it does, in flash, but not when i look at it in flash player or html.
i am using a mac.. and i am using safari, so that might be my problem, but if it isn't, i'd like to fix this problem.. cleartype font doesn't exactly look good.. with what i'm doing..
added - IE anti-aliases the text, but still doesn't rotate the text
Anti Aliasing Settings
Hi,
Having trouble when I publish my movies in flash.
Everything looks perfect in the editor window but when I go to test movie the fonts and shapes, look all jagged. It looks like a setting to do with anti aliasing that I havnt got turned on. But I've tried changing the publishing settings to jpeg quality high and it makes no difference. Any suggestions?
Thanks a mill

Drawing With Anti-aliasing
Hey all,
Quick question. I'm creating a little app that lets you draw on the stage using the mouse. The code is rather simplistic. I create a new sprite when you press the mouse (MOUSE_DOWN) on the stage, and use moveTo(x,y) to go to the spot you clicked (based on the mouseX/mouseY). Then I add a MOUSE_MOVE listener to lineTo(x,y) as long as the mouse button is down.
It works great, in terms of being a tool you can draw with. The problem I, personally, have with this, is that the lines sometimes look a little (ok, sometimes a lot...) choppy. So enter the question.
Does anyone know if there's a decent way to add some anti-aliasing to the lines I am drawing. I've thought about putting a blur filter on the sprite, but I'm not sure that's going to be optimal. Anyone know of a good way?
Thanks in advance for looking!
Anti-aliasing Confusion
I am a little confused about Flash 8 anti-aliasing options. I am using a regular font (Helevetica Neue)in a movie clip and am animating the clip. If I set it to anti-alias for animation, the font is not clear and easy-to-read but it animates smoothly.
If I select anti-alias for readability, the text is nice and clear to read, but the alpha fade-in animation is very jerky.
How do I get a piece of text to fade-in smoothly and yet be crystal clear to read?
Turn Off Anti Aliasing?
Dear Ultrashockers,
I have a dynamic text field in which i load text via people moving their mouse over a button.
So the textfield has the var set as 'name' - and on(rollOver) of the button name="whatever"
The font i need to use is a strange one - so it has to be included - but its looks rubbish without antialiasing.
Is there any way to turn in on? or a workaround using other textboxes?
I can't Work it out!

Dynamically Turning Off Anti-aliasing
Hi!
Is there a way to dynamically lower the rendering quality (turning off anti-aliasing) of a flash movie? I have some game play scenes that are unplayable on slower machines unless you turn off the anti-aliasing, so I want to provide a button for the user to "speed up the performance". I know users can right click on the movie and turn anti-aliasing off, but I would rather make my own button integrated into the show with a user friendly description. I figured a way to get fscommand() to call a javascript function which in turn calls the flash movie back lowering the quality, but this is A) ridiculous and B) requires an HTML page (I'm making projectors). Can anyone help? Thanks!
Cheers,
Dave
Preventing Text From Anti-aliasing?
Anyone know how this is done? On his site, Colin Moock claims that in flash 4 (and presumably flash 5, and MX) 'you can use a textfield variable to prevent anti-aliasing' of text, but he doesn't elaborate. Can anyone help out?
thanks!

Anti-Aliasing Text In Flash
I haven't used flash for a while and I'm now creating a new look for my website.
Is it possible to use anti-aliased text in Flash?
Text Is Blurry Too Much Anti-aliasing
I have some type on my Flash site:
http://www.rudelyinteractive.com/mdc...troletter.html
I need to make this text as crisp as possible! It is very small, 7pt. in some spots. But I need to either rmove the aliasing or lower it in some way making the text crisper. This is especially visible in the main navigation on the right.
ANY IDEAS?

Dynamic Text Anti-aliasing
hi evryone
i'm pretty new to flash, so please bear this question, which may be really simple:
i have a dynamic text object, which i'm loading text into using loadVars.
for some reason, the text is aliased (anti aliasing doesn't work), and in some computers the font is changed.
i noticed that if i use a font from the library, which is linked to a shared library loaded before, it's anti-aliased.
why is that, and is there a way to anti-aliase a dynamic text without using a loaded shared library?
thanks and regards

Flash Anti-Aliasing Problem
Hi, I'm having a problem with my portfolio at http://sohailtech.com/. If you let the page load, you'll notice that the advertisement and my logo at the top doesn't look clear, does anyone have any ideas on how I can get that to anti-alias.
Also, the site runs quite slow on a lot of computers, especially when you click the games tab.
I use Flash 8 Pro on a Mac in case you need to know.
Finally, if you want, you can write me a review of my site telling me what's good about it and what could be made better but please note that it's still being constructed which is why some of the features haven't been finished.
[CS3] Brush Stroke Anti Aliasing?
All of the sudden my pencil and brush tools won't work too well with my wacom tablet. I've never had this problem before. It seems like the brush strokes aren't being anti-aliased and when I'm done drawing everything is immediately pixelated and pushed the right a pixel or two.
Anyone know what the problem could be?
Heres a Gif to illustrate my point
Tranparencies In Bitmaps.. And Anti-aliasing...
Long story short, i want anti-ailiasing on imported images, on round edges, etc....
So far, the closest i've come is transparent GIFs, but of course, gif transparency is ON or OFF... other formats insists on importing with white pixels where i had set trasparency, such as a TGA.. which has the ability to have alpha maps, which are totally ignored by flash, it seems...
am i stuck with gifs and their jaggy edges?
Anti Aliasing Or Smother Animation
Hi!
Vectors and also bitmaps to a certaint extent has a "choppy" movement when animated slowly. Is there a way to get around this. subtle motion looks like crap to be honest. I know I cant get the smoothness of say after effects motion blur, but this looks really bad...
Thanx a lot for anny help

Static Text Not Anti Aliasing In CS3/AS3
I’ve imported Helvetica 55 Roman (a ttf) to my library, 14 point, and called it f-Body Text*. I’ve got all three types of text boxes: static, dynamic, and input. The font size varies from 18 to 14 (most is 14). The anti aliasing is set to “readability”. Everything looks great in the authoring environment. At run time the dynamic and input text looks fine but all of the static text is bit-mapping.
I’ve tried setting the anti-aliasing to custom and used extreme smoothing, text is blurry as expected in authoring environment but bit mapped in the swf.
I’ve tried Arial instead of Helvetica, same results.
I’ve tried changing the static text to dynamic and embedded only the characters required, this solves the problem and may be a possible work around.
Anyone know what’s going on?

Problems With Anti Aliasing Text
Hi,
Perhaps someone can help us out of a jam.
We have transitions in which a dynamic text field tweens and resizes to one side of the stage..If we choose 'antialiasing for animation' then there is no problem, but the text is neither smooth nor crisp and thus not readable enough.
If we however use 'antialiasing for readability' then the animation gets messed up..almost as if you can see the text wordwrapping..so the letters jolt all over the place before coming to a standstill.
(we're using a CSS stylesheet for formatting the typography)
ideas?
Greetings
Dynamic Text Not Anti-aliasing. Why?
In Flash8, using font GillSans and have made a dynamic text field that displays text from XML file. I have embedded, done “linkage” and exported font and the text still doesn’t display anti-aliased. What am I doing wrong here? Does anyone have any ideas? My static text fields display fine…

Combobox Font Anti-Aliasing Issue
I'm currently working on a website for a client and the website as it was initially built did not preload as I did not no how to preload the site since it had component use.
I eventually figured out how to do so and I have, BUT when I load the main movie into the loading base, the selected row on the combo box does not get any style applied to it. The style which I have defnined globally, clearly does work because the text in the combobox list is anti-aliased and a different colour as well as size. Of course as always it's easier to show than explain.

~^^^^^Anti-aliasing/Dynamic Text Question
CLEAR MY CONFUSION...
I have a dynamic text field that uses Arial (sans) font from the shared library .
When I publish the file it displays the Arial font from the shared Library in the dynamic text field nicely.
BUT when I select the dynamic text field and choose alias text option and then publish the file the result is that the dynamic text field displays a serif font like Times instead of the Arial Sans font that is still selected for the text field.
I thought that maybe I had some problem with my shared fonts so I opened a NEW!! file and used just a normal Arial font (not from shared library)
Again when I publish it shows fine as Arial font but if I choose the alias text option... then on publishing it shows as a serif font (times like).
Note- If I choose static text field and choose alias text option then the the Arial font shows correctly....
Why is alias text option in dynamic text field making the fonts into serif font(times like)????
This is not normal is it?????? What am I doing wrong???
PLEASE ADVISE
[problem] Anti-aliasing On One Jpg Doesn't Work
Hello,
I am creating a game for some project and I have got a problem with one jpeg image. All scripting is done in AS2.0 classes and in the movie I only have one frame with the following code:
code:
var game:Game = new Game();
this.onEnterFrame = function() {
game.onEnterFrame();
}
With this single frame I haven't got any problem, but as soon as I add another frame in the movie (for displaying score), one of my jpg's is heavily screwed. Can anybody tell me how this is possible?
[edit]The designer checked and saw the problem is not only visible on one, but on all bitmaps and jpgs[/edit]

Anti-aliasing Problem Of External Txt Files On Mac OS X
hi - i have a problem with external text files loaded into a flash movie. since i need to include german special characters, the txt files are saved in unicode format (otherwise, the umlauts are just omitted and words get truncated), but ever since i exported the swf for the flash 7 plug-in, the text's anti-aliasing varies from line to line and sometimes looks like it's a completely different font. it only happens on MAC OS X, apparently... can somebody help?
Enforce Anti-aliasing Of Dynamic Text?
Hi there,
I have a problem here with trying to enforce anti-aliasing of dynamic text in Flash MX 2004. Take a look at the sample: http://gluzd.com/temp/input-test.html
This little applet should be taking you to http://www.spreadshirt.com/shop.php?sid=16702 - and those guys somehow managed to achieve the effect. Workaround instead of using dynamic text? Other suggestions?

Anti-aliasing In Script And Action Windows
I just reinstalled CS3 on my OS 10.5.4 Mac and for some reason, the text in my code views - the script and action windows - is now anti-aliased. This is not good for code viewing!
The font is the same old default Monaco 10pt that didn't anti-alias before (and doesn't in, for instance, Dreamweaver). I've tried changing the font in preferences and some fonts seems to anti-alias and some don't. Unfortunately, any font I might want to use anti-aliases.
Does anyone know what is going on here?! How can I stop this anti-aliasing in the code views?
Thanks!
