How Do I Decrease The Swf Size?
How can I decrease the size of my swf so that it doesn't take too long to load? Can I break it up somehow?

Ok, as usual, maby I'm waaay of on this one. But I have a vector animation (non' size changin) just a frame by frame animation. Is there any script to make the vector a pixel grafic / bitmap? and by that decrease the size of the swf? Here's the .fla if needed example

Decrease Size Of Preloader
Can somebody tell me why my preloader is 64 kb. When I go to the control>test movie the first frame is showing 64kb. Why is it sooo big. All it is, is three different sized stars that are each a Graphic put into a movie clip, a loading bar and the word "Loading..". When I go to the page it takes a while and then the preloader finally appears and its already at 50 percent. To test my theory of it being too big I copied the Preloader scene out of my fla file and into a new fla file. Sure enough when I test the scene it is now only 12KB. What could be in the first frame that is making it so big.

in my work ,now iam doing education CD by flash5 ..i did it using more than 100 scenes each scene contains 6 frames and in this work i imported too much pictures..it worked good ...but now it reach to size of 35 MB of its(.fla) file so when i want to publish setting as (.exe) to put on CD ..the publishing stop !!! window told me your virtual memory is too low ...so i add DDRAM memory of 512 MB in the computer but the problem not solve !!...so what must i do to let my work be able to put it on CD as .exe
if i divide the( .fla)file as movies(.swf )and load movie when i press button,is the exe size reduce ??? please told me ..thanks to any one who answer me ..

Decrease File Size
I have a rather simple animation that measures 400w x 600h px. I have published it multiple times using different settings, and have not been able to get the file size less than 700k. Any suggestions as to what I might try, or is this the best that I should expect from such a physically large file?

Decrease Size Of Object Using AS
Hey ,

What I'd basically like to do is have a slider that controls the size of a Movie Clip. When you move the handle to the right, the MC becomes smaller, and when you move it to the left, it becomes bigger. I found an article at Sitepoint (www.sitepoint.com/print/actionscript-animation-flash), which did the opposite of what I want to do, but I couldn't seem to reverse the code.

Best Way To Decrease File Size?
Hey all, another newbie question here...

I did a quick search, but didn't really turn up what I'm looking for. I made a small flash banner, and I need to bring the file size to make it allowable on certain sites. What can I do to bring the file size down?

I've tried bringing the JPEG quality down in the publish settings, but that actually didn't do much at all to bring it down...

What I want to do, but still haven't figured out how, is to perform an action in wich if I rollover a button, this will increase its size to a certain value, decreasing the size of the other two at the same time, and on rollout the three of them would go back to their normal size.
What I've done so far is put three movieclips on a layer on the scene with invisible buttons over them on a different layer. All three buttons are the same size so there won't be much trouble defining the desirable "big" and "small" size for all of them

I tried to set variables for the height and width and make flash check it on a loop, but what I haven't figured out yet is the action for the buttons to make the size animation change.

Need Tips To Decrease My File Size...
I need some help...

I'm designing a site for my church. The concept was to design a site that had the appearance of not having any bounding borders. The design was inspired by www.crashfilm.com I'm running into issues with creating a flash movie that isn't huge in file size. I've tried saving the all the images optimized for the web, and still can't seem to get the file size to be under (1mb). Has broadband become standard enough for huge files to be okay?

The 800 x 600 design consists of:

-A series of images with a colorized effect and opaque background (red).
-A masked image of my pastor that appears over the stone background (yellow)
-And some buttons that will have pictures embedded within them (green)
-Plus an audio track (.mp3) that is 59.9 sec long (158k)
-Appears on a Black Background

Dear all!

I am working on a project, in which I need to make an object increase to 150 and decrease to 25% from ite regular size, by pressing the Key.UP on my keyboard. My problem is that i can not get it to increase gradually as I press the Key.UP.

I am also programming a previous channel on remote control. The pc is suppost to go to previous channel when I press the button. I tried different ways, but I don't know how to make the function remember what was the last channel..
Please help or give some hints.. I'll appreciate your help

Imported Mp3, File Size Increased And Won't Decrease
Hi

I wanted to add some music to a presentation I've made, so I imported an mp3 song (2,5mb, 2m38s, kbps 128,) to the library. This increased the file size of my .fla with 25mb. The swf hardly increased at all.

Now, I deleted the song from the library (and stage), but the file size of the -fla doesn't decrease at all. Just for testing, I imported three new songs, then deleted them, and now my .fla file is 100mb.

1. How can a 2,5 mb mp3 increase the file size with 25mb?
2. Why doesn't the file size decrease to it's normal size when I delete the songs?


Edit: I know that loading the mp3 externally is a better way to do it, but I still can't understand why the above happens...

On Click Increase/Decrease Font Size
Morning Everyone.

I have a presentation that is filled from an XML file. All the text boxes are dynamic, loops go through and populate clips and what not.
I want to add a function, that if they click on the big "A" it increases the Font size by 1 pt. so 12pt>13pt The little"a" would Decrease the font size. 13pt>12pt.

To start, I just want to increase/decrease by 1 pt. but if later I can make it so each click increases/decreases that would be ideal.

Not sure if this is possible, but I wanted to toss the question out there as I do my own research as well.

Replacing/Resizing Images To Decrease File Size
I'm not sure my title made any sense, but anyway. What I need to do is make my flash intro a LOT smaller. It's around 2.5 mb and that's pathetically HUGE! I can't change my bitrate any more. 64 is as small as I can go, and medium quality, but I know that the images I used when I imported them were pretty big and I resized them in flash to fit my movie. Is there a quick easy way to save the images smaller and replace it in the movie without having to remake my animations? I recall an option "swap symbol" which I have never tried, only seen. If that does what I think it does, I don't think it will help me that much.
Another thing that makes re-animating it hard, is that each photo I used I converted to a symbol and each symbol I gave a motion tween to fade the alpha in and out so I'd have to do that again to each of the 'new' images. (I have only been working with flash 2 weeks, so when I do things, I only know the long, hard, miserable ways to do it. I could really use some tips here. Is flash so wonderful that is happens to have a way to swap my HUGE image for a smaller version that I decreased in photoshop and not mess up the animation or the scales and rotations and everything that I've already done? I'll give the link to my intro. I'm rather proud of the way it looks, but even on my high speed connection it takes a long time to load. Dial-up wouldn't even get to see anything for at least a year. So if anyone can look at this I would love it. I can upload the fla to the same server, if someone wants to see that, but I'll wait to see if anyone needs it. thanks everyone. Buttons To Increase Or Decrease Font Size In Externally Loaded HTML Formatted TXT.
My MX movie loads external HTML formatted text from a var.txt file using loadvars().
Var.txt looks like this:

I am filling an array using .split() and I need to know how many things were loaded into the array. How can I check this number? Most languages have something like ubound(array) or something. Thanks in advance.

XML Or Array Size Limit
Does anyone know if there is a size limit to the XMLObject? everytime I go over 500 lines of XML, Flash freezes up. I'm thinking of dumping XML and doing a simple file read into an array. (so the second question; is there a size limits to arrays?)

The length of the array gallery_titles always returns 0. The array is populated though showing the correct data from the text file when I run the debug movie thingy. The arrays seem to be on _level0 - is this OK? though even when I use trace(_level0.gallery_titles.length); It still returns 0.

Any help would be fantastic - cause I cant really get any further with this project until I can get to the array size :-(

Size Issues Using Multidimensional Array
Has anyone experienced any performance or other problems using large multidimensional arrays with Flash MX?

My project is a cross-platform CD-ROM featuring 2500 images, subsets of which are dynamically loaded depending on user input. The CD must play on a P300 or better system. The plan is to store information about the images in a text file on the CD and to read that information into a nested array at runtime. The array will be sorted and used for navigation.

Plan 1: Put information about ALL images in a single text file ("data.txt"), then sort that information to create a navigation array. So, for example if the user needs to view all images that have a tree in them, the navigation array would be sorted on the "tree" field to create a navigation array.

The array might look like this:
NestedItemArray = [itemName,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0]
ItemArray = [NestedItemArray0,NestedItemArray1, >>>> and so on to >>>> NestedItemArray2500]

Plan 2: Keep the information organized in separate smaller text files. So, for example if the user needs to view all 400 images that have a tree in them, the variables from ONLY the text file "tree.txt" would be loaded to create the array.

The array might look like this:
NestedTreeArray = [itemName,0,0]
ItemArray = [NestedTreeArray0,NestedTreeArray1, >>>> and so on to >>>> NestedTreeArray400]

So, my questions are:
— Does anyone have experience using large arrays on slow computers (PC & Mac) without performance (or other) problems?

Problem With Array Size- Loading Values From ASP
I am currently working on an image viewer application for my company's intranet site. I'm dynamically loading jpegs after using ASP and VB script to get the filenames in a specific sub-folder. Using a URLencoded output, I then use the .split function on the variable that is returned to create an array with all the filenames. Then, I load each image interactively from the directory where it resides. My problem is, if I have more than 100 images in a directory, I can load that string from the ASP script and parse it, then view the images in the folder. However, if I change to a different directory for the script to run on, it won't call the GetVariables() function. I have put the GetVariables in a function in a movie clip that I call with a button press. in that function, I increment a variable just to make sure that the function is being called correctly, and display it in a dynamic text box. This is working- however, the GetVariables() call doesn't seem to work. This isn't a problem if they're are less than 101 images in a directory. I've read many posts, and it doesn't seem that an array has a "limit" to it's size. Perhaps there is something going on with Internet Explorer caching information here? I'm really fed up with this!!

Multi-Dimensional Array. Unassigned Size For X & Y
Hi all,

I've got a problem while still at the planning stage for a site. I'm giving a client some XML data with a project, which he will be able to change to edit his site (obviously). One problem I am having while considering the site is building a multi-dimensional array that allows for non-declaration of size for both vectors of the array, as I have no prior knowledge of how many different sub categories my client will eventually want to use, and would rather work around this than impose upper limits!

what I've used in the past is :-

But obviously this isn't great if he wants more than 3 mp3 lists, so how can I get this second vector "delimited" as it were....?

Custom Size For An Array From An External File
I have a problem where I have a flash file that constantly loops. It reads 3 different variables from a txt file and outputs their data. I also have it refreshing the swf so that when I change data in the .txt file it updates it realtime in the swf without having to reload the file. but what I also need is a way to tell it to make an array a certain length to populate this data. And instead of a fixed size as it is right now, to make it X long where X is declared in the .txt file that i am using.

here is the code that im currently using:

[help] Dynamic Text Field Size With Array
I am trying to build a navigation using an array that populates a dynamic text field button MC. Right now the array is populating the dynamic text field in my button MC but it will not wrap if the text is longer than the width of the text field.

I tried selecting the field to be multiline with no luck. I also added the following lines into my code at the suggestion of another post I read.

Sound Decrease
Hi

I have a piece of background music playing.

When the user clicks on a button,another sound is played. Is it possbile to lower the volume of the background sound temporarily while the other sound is playing, then when finished, resume the background sound?

I guess the psuedo code would be something like this:-

On release()
Background sound==(20)
Play (new sound)
When (newsound) finish
Background sound (back to normal)

I'm having trouble with my script. I want a script to decrease a value each time a key is pressed. This is my code until now:

I'm creating a game where the player has got 3 "tools", each time the space-bar is pressed, the number of tools should decrease by 1.
When I test my game with the code I'm using for now, the number has decreased to 0 before I've released the spacebar.

How do I create a code that decrease the number each time the space-bar is pressed, without continue decreasing if the space-bar is not released?

Array Size 61mb Limit Crashes Flash
I am trying to load a huge dna file 61 mb into an array for faster processing. The program seems to quit and has some sort of memory leak -- unless I am just reaching an array size limit.

The program simply converts the characters of the .txt file into an array
by putting them into the array 1 by 1 in a loop.
First I'm eliminating all non ACTG characters like returns, spaces etc in the file...
first I load the dna.txt file. then in a function

I'm using it like this

anyway the crash does not depend on the memory of my computer since it has 3 gb and did the same thing before I upgraded it from 2 gb. It seems to be limited by the array size maybe?

If I limit the for loop to do dna.length/2 then it works fine.

What is the crash caused by.

Inputfields Decrease Framerate?
Hi, I have a strange speed decrease problem and donīt know if it is normal.

The scenario:
I have arranged a couple of Inputfields for a mailform thing. They are inside a movieclip that is inside a popup window movieclip.
The popup window is masked and the mailform thing has also a mask.

Now the Problem:
When the window is opened and the mailform shows up, the framerate of the movie decreases horribly after a while.
I have a mouse follower and can see it getting slower and slower. After some seconds it looks like about 3 fps!!!
I do nothing special, just moving the mouse. There is no crazy script that could cause the slowdown!
Not weird enough, when I click on a "clear form" button of the mailform clip, the movie plays again with its normal rate (20fps) and then starts getting slower again! The button does nothing else then clearing the variables of the mailform inputfields.

I donīt have a clue whats going on... deleting the masks does nothing, but when I delete the inputfields the movie plays at normal rate!

Any idea?

I would like to decrease the download time to my site. So obviously I made the stage smaller, reduced the f/m, and most importantly made each section of the site seperate (loading seperate movies). However, now that the initial load is much smaller it take a long time to load each area (especially the gallery areas)--no one would wait. How can I fix this?

Detect Increase/decrease. . .
I wish to write a function or piece of code that conditionally responds to whether the user is moving their mouse to the right or to the left.
In other words, if the _xmouse is increasing, do one thing. If _xmouse is decreasing, do something else.

I know how to make things update or increase using incremental operators, etc. But how would I simply check to see if someone is dragging to the left vs. to the right?

As a further example, if the mouse position is increasing towards the right at any given time, I want a movie clip to respond one way.
If the user suddenly decides to move the mouse more to the left, I want it to respond another way.
