Scrolling Backround
Hi, I'm trying to make a game that has a scrolling backround. I made the backround and tweened it to move across the viewing area but I know there is some code for making it repeat this process.Can anyone tell me the basic actionscript for it?(I checked out the Help tutorial for the scrolling star backround but that isn't what I'm looking for)

Scrolling Backround
I have looked at lots of tutorials about this but none of them have what I'm trying to do. I have a character that moves with arrow keys and I want him to stay in the center of the backround at all times unless he comes to an edge which will then make it stop scrolling until he moves away from the edge. but I cant find any tutorials that explain this type of scrolling.

By the way I use Flash 5

Preloading Jpg In Backround?
I have a small flash applet that allows people to flip through the images like a book.Images load with every flip of a page. Is there an easy code that will tell the script to start preloading the jpg images as soon as possible.

let say the images are

Alpha Backround
Hi

when i export my movie in a bitmap sequence and save in Alpha w /24 bit color, the movies plays nice in alpha background, but when i play it on another computer the background is there, no alpha..

Any ideas why?
my computer is windows xp
the other computer is windows me

Animated Backround?
I am redoing my site and want to have a small area where there are pictures that are scrolling and repeat. Should I make a movieclip and then animate it? I donno I am really confused . I cannot just animate on the timeline because I have stop(); at the end......I'm pretty sure this made absolutly no sense but w/e

I Need To Know How To Loop An Image (not The Backround)

Ive seen some cool backrounds in flash sites - how are they done?? I cant do better than a few rectangles at the moment! Is it best to draw them in fireworks then import?

Importing W/ Transparent Backround?
Okay. I've searched all over the forums on how to do this, but I still have some questions. Basically I want to know an effective way to get rid of the white backround in an imported graphic (make it transparent).

The project I'm working on will be a cartoon. Each character's head, arms, upper body, and each leg will be a seperate object. This is so I can do animation easier.

When I do "Break Apart" on the imported object then delete the backround that works fine. However I've heard that if you do this the flash will chug because I end up with 5 objects or so for every imported object. Is this true? I'm going to have several imported objects on the screen, so if it is true this isn't an option. Is there no way to combine these seperate objects? I know you can group them but then I was sure that that wouldn't make it run any faster because it treats it as if several different objects still exist. Any way to combine them permanently into one object or no?

I heard you can also use PNG-24 files as an alternative. Apparently flash recognizes which parts you defined as transparent in photoshop. I have photoshop... but how do I do this? I can save the file as a PNG-24, but I have no idea how to make sure it knows the white backround should be transparent. I checked Photoshop's help files and it is very confusing- it seems to reference buttons and toolbars that don't exist when I searched for how to map a color to be transparent. Can anyone walk me through this??

Thanks in advance- it's frusterating that what I thought would be a small thing is such a big road block. Once I get past this I can finally start doing something signifigant with my cartoon.

Loading Swf Files In The Backround
I have built a site using empty MC. I load the different pages into these MCs in order to keep the file size down. How can I load files into someones cache in the backround while they are viewing the "other" pages.

Continuous Scrolling Backround
Hi all,

I've got a picture that i have put in a movie and masked off so that only a section of it can be seen as it scroll's across.

The picture is edited so that each end is the same. But what i want to do is get the picture to scroll continuously so it looks like there is no seem.

Changing Backround Problem
I put this code in the first frame like one of the people that helped me before told me to

I tried the Tutorials and I didnt quite understand it. Does anyone have a script thats easy to use for backround screen scrolling?

Transparent Backround W/Macs
I am having some trouble. I made a website with a transparent flash file. Everything works fine when viewed on PC machines and PC browsers such as IE and Firefox. However, when viewed on Mac machines the transparent backround appears white. I have tested it on both Mac IE and Safari.

The transparent feature is activated via an html script when the file is published. From what I gather the script generated by Flash is not compatable with Mac IE or Safari.

Does anyone know a solution for this? or has anyone else experienced similar results?

Character Move And Backround

Iam wondering how do I make a character move while the backround moves with it..I can make the character move but the backround does not move also and then the character ends up leaveing the screen!!! how can I make it so that when I hold up..the character walks up and the backround would go with it??

iam also wondering if its possible to make my own 3D engine?? or make some 3D objects using flash?? if thats really hard ro not possible then is there any tools out there that I can use to create a model and import it into flash and use that 3D object? if so..where???

Changing Backround Color Through AS
Hi everyone.

I'm just looking for the best way to change the backround color through Action script. Ive made the swf play without boaders (100% and no scale) so it aways remains full sreen and centered in the brouser.

Should I just make a really big mc to cover any possible screen size, or is there a way to access the backround atributes through Actionscript. I'm looking to produce a screen flicker effect.

Platform Backround Movement
Hey.

I am unable to make a decent scrolling backround in my platform based game.
I want it so if the character is near the edge of the map then the map moves so the character does not fall off the screen!!

The way I went about it is not making the character move at all! but make the backround move if I were to press the left key or right key. The only problem I have with this is I have to make every single object move also! which I can tell you there is alot of objects and I want to make it easier to do!

This is what I have to deal with the backround movement:

Scaling Backround But Not The Menu
I am trying to make a website for my office.
We want the website to have a background image that scales on browser resize while the other content of the page remains centered in the browser. The background image needs to retain its proportions though.

So far I have managed to resize it and keeping the aspect ratio, but the other content scales as well. I used Stage.scaleMode = "noBorder";.

Trying with Stage.scaleMode = "noScale"; the other content stays in its place and doesnt scale.
But I run into a problem when defining the size of the background image. I do not know how it can keep its proportions while still filling out the whole stage (cant have any "letterboxing")

Backround Sound For Preloader.
I had a preloader working great.

Now I want to have the ambient sound loop which I downloaded for the site also run behind the preloader.

What is the best way to do this?

The problem with this was that the preloader waited till the sound file was loaded to start showing itself.

Now I'm trying it by putting a sound in a movie clip but I'm unsure how to include this movie clip into the three frame solution so that I can have the sound play consistently in the background.

Backround Music Prob...
when i click on "about me" the music from the main page still keeps going..So the new page loads but the backround music from the previous keeps going and a new track from the new page also plays..anyone know how i can fix this error?

Simple Backround Music Question ?

Im setting up my flash site so..after loading some main content..i need to load a music file (embeded in a swf external file called sound.swf).
I dont need a loader for it..the loading will happen in backround (off stage).

How to load it ? i guess i dont need a conteiner MC holder for it ? How do i call that sound.swf file ? do i just call it from a frame ?

Also ive seen somewhere that it is possible to start playing that sound (which will loop) faded..how to go for that ?

(the loaded sound.swf will have a play/stop button)

Changing A Backround Picture With The Time
ok i need help writing a code that will change a picture base upon the time.

i want to have a picture of the sun rising between the time 6am to 11 am

then from 12pm - 5 pm a pic of the ocean showing

from 6 pm - 10 pm- a pic of the sun setting...

then from 11pm- 5am a picture of the northern lights..

help please..

ohh yeah i have the time being called in a # from 1-24, = var = hour

idk if u can write if statments with a range of numbers . ex. if (hour > "range of time/#'s") ....

or have a shape in the backround and have it change as the time changes??/
