Invisible Button On Gnome Banner, Flash Tutorials - Create A Banner
Hi, I'm currently doing the flash tutorial that has three parts to creating a banner. I do exactly as the tutorial does, but I can't get the URL to open up. Everything is exactly the same as the banner, I even copied and pasted the banner and actionscript into my file from the tutorial example, but it still doesn't work.

Can anybody help?

I would like to put a 468x60 Flash banner advert on an HTML page.

If the viewer doesn't have the Flash player plug-in installed, I would like to default to a GIF banner ad.

Can anyone point me to a source of information on how to accomplish this?

Am a complete drawing impaired newbie...but i do atleast have moderately stong html background... have been trying to create a 468x60 banner which has a minimal amount of text effects, but must be missing all the key points. Is there a tutorial on Banner making and then posting to your website that someone might be able to point me?? I checked but could'nt find one?? Thanks!!

This banner in your movies, I can not seem to get it to work.
After I download it, and open it with Swish, so that I can edit the file, the background seems to not be there.

Id Like to change the text at the top to "=WarDogs=" And then change the bottom scrolling text to say "Join us on the battlefield Server IP 64.37.120.130 Feel free to join our forum while your here"

Could someone please help me make those 2 changes to that file. I download the trial for Swish Max, and I still had the same problem.

I was also wondering about a price to upgrade from Swish 2 to Swish Max, but would like to get this banner working firstly.

I have designed a banner in Adobe Photoshop 7 , now i want it to import it into Flash MX 2004 and add sound and some animations , can i do that in flash ? If yes , HOW ? cna someone guide me please ? would apreciate it very much.

I have some basic knowledge about Flash .. but Flash 5 ( i have read the Phillip Kerman book on macromedia flash 5 like a year ago ) , so if anyone can help me it would be great.

Hi! Long time listener, first time poster here.

Was just wondering if any developers out there had experienced any problems with MSN Flash Banners.

I'm having a bit of difficulty convincing the powers that be and the adserver people that it is the Flash banner eating CPU resources. The banner in question is the "MSN Search Toolbar" with loads of floaty alpha gradient fading, pseudo random stuff affected by mouse movement. Looks pretty but it causes my machine (dual processor 2.8GHz) to grind to a halt in FireFox. Is this another case of an arty designer getting carried away without any idea of how Flash can impact CPU resources?

Useful tips like 'buy a new computer' and 'maybe its the website' (be a first for HTML eating CPU resources) from "techincal support" people were not greatly appreciated.

Feel free to move this posting if its in the wrong area but thought fellow experienced pros like yourselves may have experienced similar issues with these banners whilst developing sites.

Those New Banner Ads
I've wondered about these for a while now, I know they are made in flash, I just don't know how and up until today I've not needed to know how to make them.

On yahoo there are banner ads to the right of the page above the news, they change every day or so. Some of the more creative ones will have animation break out of the banner ads 178x39 (size varies) pixel border and will move across stationary text and imgs somewhere else on the page and then quickly zip back into the swf's border.

Is this done with regular flash programming or is there something else aiding flash to make it possible to jump off the swf's borders and move around. I've looked at 100 different flash forums and I still can't find out anything about it, I don't even know what the technical term for it is, if there is one.

I wish I could find an example of it to link to. Anyone have any information about how this is done?

I lurk here alot decided to make ana account and ask a qwestion! Okay i am the gfx guy for a Css clan. I recently made a new banner wich i animated with image ready to fade between different versions of the banner.

but after i had mad the image i relized it was way to big (around 11mb). So I diddnt want to chop down the animation cuss it was perfect and would look like crap if it went any faster.. So i tried converting it to flash thinking mabey it would shink file size or at least load up faster than the huge gif... i was wrong (27mb) .. My qwestion(s)

1) I made the animation by saving a bunch of different jpgs and tweening them to blend in photoshop.. is there a way to do this in flash? bassically can i animate it the same/better in flash?

2) i seen flash banners with more animation then this and at a much smaller file size. What am i doing wrong? I think mabye doing the animation in photoshop might be the begining.

30K Banner Ad?
Hi everyone: anyone out here or there working in the online advertising industry? mainly, I want to find out what is the deal with ad traffic co. asking for 30k max weight flash banners. also, when they say max weight 30k for flash, do they mean the .fla file or .swf file. Really confused here because they ask for a submission of both files but almost impossible to keep the .fla file at 30k sometimes.

where when you arrive you are greeted by a big banner ad then it slides away bringing the regular html web index page into frame. How is this being done. They also include a button to close flash banner early if visitor so chooses. Thanks for any guidance on doing something like that.

I have to create a banner for our website but I am not so good in FLASH let's say I don't

have any experience .

Well after some search on the web I found how to charge picture with the URL. What I want to

do now is to give the name of the file directly at loading line.

Something like this : banner.swf & logo1.jpg

My question is how to get those parameters back in Action Script.

I was use :
loadMovie("http://..../logo1.jpg",1) ;

Now I would like to use

var name = ..... ?
loadMovie(name, 1) ;

yikes: Final goal should be to build application that can load x logos and scroll them to

the left side.

Hi Guys

I'm completely new to flash etc... I really need some help here. I've made a banner for my website using a flash editor. It works fine and looks good enough.

The problem is whenever I link to a new part of my web page, the banner restarts itself. Is there a way to make it continue from where it was before? I've seen this on other web pages. I have thought about using frames but I don't like frames and neither does Googlebot.

Any suggestions?

I'm interested in learning more about Rich Media banners (floating, expandable, banners with video, and so on...).

I've researched everywhere, and wondered if anyone knows how to pull this stuff off without using things like eyeblaster and dart motif. I know every site kind of has their own requirements, but where do you start?

1. I know I could design and create something that would function using transparency, but what about when you hand the banners off to the website you're advertising on? Do they just know how to implement an expandable or floating banner just by giving them an SWF file?

2. What about video? Most sites have like 20-30k file size limits. Do you have to host the videos on a different server and just pull the video in separately?

Thanks for any help/knowledge you can share. I look at stuff on bannerblog.com.au and just drool all day. Please help.

Hi, my name's Matt and I am currently building a website. I've always wanted to and now I'm finally going to devote to it. I want to have a news box on my site that displays a picture along with a quick description that when clicked brings the reader to the url. If you still have no idea what I mean, a few examples are 1up.com and IGN.com, I wan't a large window in the middle of the page like theres that displays the big news. I'm a html/css web developer whose pretty much a newbie when it comes to action script. I used to write a little in as2 but am completely new to as3.

I'm creating a flash rotating banner like that you see on bestbuy.com, ign.com or countless other sites. 4 slides that cycle through externally loaded swfs every 10 to 20 seconds unless the next or prev button is pressed.

Got through loading the externally swfs, as well as setting up an array so it can cycle through my swfs. I also am reading up on for loops that I believe I will use for the next and prev buttons to cycle through my swfs. Unfortionitly my lack of knowledge on as3, I keep getting errors every time I try to set that up.

If anyone here can help me out or at least point me in the way of a good tutorial on rotating flash banner ad (because all I get in my searches are "create your own using our software") that would be amazing.

Swf For Web Banner Ad
I'm trying to design a banner ad of 200 by 200 px and it's supposed to be 50k or less.

I've seen swf ads on various news sites where the will get larger when you mouse over. I'd like to mouse over and have the ad displayed as 240 x 430. Additionally, I'll be placing a book image in the file and I was wondering if it'd be possible to link to the image from our website rather then embedding it to help reduce the file size.

Any tutorial links, videos or explanations greatly appreciated.

I'm still learning a lot about flash and i was looking for help for my banner. On my banner i have a star with a face and it's animated. It's suppose to phade from small to big and as it's doing the the alpha goes from 100 to 0. I have that part working but every other time the star hits it's largest size i would like the star to be winking. I cannot figure out how to accomplish this. any help would be much appreciated.

So for some odd reason I have never made a banner. Well not one that was going on someone else's site anyway.

Pretty much I just need to know what to do. I know I can make a SWF of the banner and people could click it and it would be fine. But if they can't upload it, say on Myspace. A SWF file wouldn't work.

So is there a way to make a GIF or Jpeg in flash with the link to whatever already there? Thanks for any help

I've just put together a sketch of a site in photoshop, which is here -

The graphic on the far right with the decks and speakers I'm turning into a flash animation... the speakers pulsate and things spin around. So I'm making the whole banner flash, the rest of the site will be standard html. This would all work fine, but the guy I'm doing it for now wants the site to stretch to fill the browser. (with the 'decks/speakers' graphic always in view on the right edge) This shouldn't be a problem with the rest of the site, just don't know how to do it with this particular banner...

Now i'm aware of setting tables to 100% which achieves this, but as I understand it this only works with a solid background color or a tiled image... So is there anything anyone here could suggest I do to try and keep the whole banner flash, and keeping the graphics as similar as possible and have it stretch to fill the browser?

I thought of making a new texture as a background tiled image in a 100% table in html, then just having the decks/speakers as a flash swf set to transparent over the top of it. Though this would mean loads of hassle and a major rework of the design I think, so was wondering if anyone could suggest another way....!

I recieved a request for a pop up banner from someone. Is this actionscript I have to create myself, or something on their end ? Its suppossed to act as one of those banners that automatically pops up an ad when you enter the site.

hi i'm a newbie to flash and am kinda stuck was wondering if someone could help me out.

basically what I want is

Flash banner that loops through images and displays them (with fadein/fadeout) [I have done this bit]
When it shows the image (ie img1.jpg), I want it to display clickable buttons that go to the url.
If someone hovers over, the loops stops and as soon as someone moves their mouse away the loop starts again with another set of image and clickable buttons.
I would much appreciate any help if someone can help me out with this.
