How To Erase Line Or Fill Color, I Want To Create A Small Brush App With Eraser Tool
there r many ways to draw in AS3, but only one way to erase is to erase everything with clear(). I am building a drawing tools but don't know how to make a "eraser" tool ?? Any idea ?

i have been creating a paint tool in flash using the built in api drawing, im using flash8 as2.

for an erasor tool i set the brush to paint at background colour, which works as long as i have a solid one colour background,
however in my project the background the user draws on will be a user selected section of a background type enviroment, in other words a section of a wall to paint on choosen by the user.

Thus i would like to find out how to create an eraser tool that works by deleting pixels rather than painting a background colour does anyone know what actionscript i would need to use? thanks.

my eraser tool is stuck on and I can't use any other tools... tried restarting: app, comp, new doc, checked every menu and preferance... WTF man... I'm on a deadline and I'm stuck with only my eraser tool... help me!

Eraser Tool Will Not Erase

I have never been able to erase like in photoshop..

A Working Eraser Tool.
I've seen a few examples of drawing programs but they hardly ever have real eraser tools. They either replace something with white, delete entire objects, or don't even have one. I created this one just to show how it's done for those who don't know.

If you want to use shapes for speed, simply create a Sprite object... On MOUSE_DOWN you do your drawing techniques, then on MOUSE_UP, you draw the Sprite to the BitmapData layer and Sprite.clear() your shape.

Easy as pie and allows a real eraser.

Can Eraser Tool Save The Day?
Hi, I have a mostly static background image of a runway photo with a model who poses a few different ways as the surrounding paparazzi flash cubes go off. Flash animates the model's poses and the random sequence flash bulbs.

If I import rough-edged versions of the model's poses and flash bulbs, then use the Flash CS3 Pro BREAK APART command to more accurately erase/feather the edges, wouldn't I be able to layer those over my background, and save a ton of space by converting the background image to a symbol for each frame? For that matter, couldn't I also convert the feathered-edged variations into symbols as well, to save even more space?

My current problem is that I imported about 20 copies of the same background graphic with the different model poses and flash bulb locations with layers, and it made my file HUGE. Please let me know if Flash can do this. Thanks!

When wi was using the brush tool in mx 2004, all of the sudden, i couldnt paint but then realtized it switched so that i have to make a complete shape like a circle for anything to show up

Rough Brush Tool
Does anyone else have problems with the brush tool in Flash 5 or MX? All of my lines are rough and jaggey, Flash doesn't seem to be smoothing out the lines like it does in v4. Any suggestions?

Problem With The Brush Tool
I've been using the Brush tool just fine as a secondary stroke function for quite a while on my Flash MX 2004 program.

However, today I started working on my animation project and all of a sudden my brush tool wouldn't work. I would draw the stroke and it would disappear.

I checked and checked and it turned out that I was using a correct non-locked layer to draw on, so this shouldn't be a problem.

On further investigation I noticed that my brush tool, if I was to draw in a circle would make a circle FILLED by the brush color. So apparently I had to draw in circles for the brush stroke to show similar to how Illustrator works.

But I don't want it to do that, is there a way I can make it go back to a secondary "stroke" tool?

Does anyone know how to create their own brush tool?? you know like in photoshop? You just use one tiny image and when you click & drag your mouse the effect will be seen in SWF.

Flash5 Brush Tool
When using the brush tool in Flash 5 with my pressure sensitive tablet a black box apprears over the cursor about 1 inch squared. It blocks my view of area immediatly around the brush so it gets in the way. Does anyone know how to get ride of this box?

Laggy Brush Tool On Windows XP.
Ever since I got Windows XP on my systems, the brush tool in any version of Flash (mx, 5 and 4) lags like there's no tomorrow. I want to finish my artist portfolio; Flash is my main drawing application and now it's backstabbing me. it looks quite like this:

Flash CS4 3D Spray Brush Tool
I would like to recreate the twinkling stars animation as shown on this page for the 3D Spray Brush Tool:

How is the randomness of the twinkling achieved? When I made a movie clip of a star that dissolved in and out, all the stars pulsated simultaneously. Is there a specific tutorial for that? I'd hate to think that Adobe pulled some sort of sleight of hand to fool us into thinking it's so easy.

Also, I want to do a "Star Wars" opening credits type of animation, where the type crawls in perspective. I tried crawling type (as a movie clip) vertically inside of a movie clip that was angled back, but in the SWF, the type if flat-on. What's up with that?

I am making a paintbrush tool in Flash.
Though almost finished i am facing the implementation of selection tool.
When I select an object thru the selection and scale it scale abnormally. Plz help me resolving this.

Steps to replicate:
click on "Rectangle" tool button.
Draw within white space area.
click on the shape.
Shape handler will appear.
Now drag the shape handlers.(here is the problem.)

Brush Tool In Flash 8 Keeps Dying On Me
hi,

Sometimes when i use my brush tool in Flash 8.. At times it'll work perfectly and draw my lines out.. but sometimes! It just dies on me! And Whenever i click and drag to draw.. It comes up.. but once i let go of the click.. it dissappears!!

I have to draw a full touching circle with the brush tool for the drawing to appear.. But if i wanted to draw straight lines with the brush tool, then i'm screwed! lol

Does anyone know a solution to this?

Also, I've checked my brush modes and it's always on normal!

Brush Tool Line Quality MX Vs Flash4
Does anyone else here see a big difference in line quality (using the Brush Tool) drawing in Flash MX vs. Flash 4? I do quite a bit of animating using a Wacom Tablet and drawing directly in Flash and I get terrible line quality in MX. I usually end up working in Flash 4 because it looks so much better. I've played around with the Smoothing settings in MX to no end but I'm still getting terrible quality. (see attached sample).

[HELP] Brush Tool Doesn't Work..or Works Oddly
Hey all, I have an odd problem happening (though its probably something dumb that I accidently did so thats why I'm posting the question in here).

My brush tool no longer works, or atleast isn't working correctly. When I'm on the main timeline it works fine, however when I go into a movieclip to work on something it doesn't paint anymore. Whats odd though is if I paint over the entire work area some SMALL spots get painted, however there is nothing there so I dunno why. =

I've checked to see if the layer is locked, checked if its the top layer, and even made a new layer to test it on and it doesn't even paint on that. =

I opened a different flash file and found it doesn't have a problem, so I assume its just this one file I'm working with.

Anyone know what might be wrong? Thanks.

Fill Tool - THE MOST ANNOYING TOOL EVER
I'm trying to draw stuff, but the fill tool never works when I want it to. I try to fill something in, so I mess with the options till it works, but sometimes.. I CANT FILL IT IN AT ALL! Soo, then I have to do it manually which is really annoying. I CANT WORK LIKE THIS! Is there any way to make it not stupid?

Drawing Board Help Brush Stroke, Eraser, Color

I'm stuck in a rut as I'm not an actionscripter. For one of my classes I have to create something "fun". So I am creating a drawing board. The question is, I have the ability to change the color, change a different brush stroke, but only stays black. But what I want it to do, is change the color of the brush stroke and still keep it that color until the user changes the color. The file is located here:

Line Tool/ Pen Tool
hello all i am obviously new to flash and my question is this. i want to be able to draw lines with the line tool and pen tool that do not have rounded edges. i want the edges to be flat with two sharp corners. is this at all possible using the line tool or pen tool? thank you.

You know when you draw something with the pen tool, and then scale it smaller the lines start to bunch up and mess up the drawing.
Is there a way of keeping that from hapening?

When I copy/paste into Flash 5, the ends of the lines turn soft and rounded. Is there any way to get the ends sharp and boxy?

When I use the pen tool in Illustrator, I have the option of creating lines, where the ends of the lines (they call 'caps') are sharp and boxy.

When I copy/paste into Flash 5, the ends of the lines turn soft and rounded. Is there any way to get the ends sharp and boxy? I haven't used Flash 6 yet, but has this feature been added to Flash 6?

I have tried Preferences--> Editing Pen Tool--> Smooth Curves to draw a very curvy lines... it doesn't help at all... at last the curvy lines that I drew would change to staight lines? Why??? How to solve this problem?

Hi I'm using the pen tool to edit some think black lines and just wondered if I can change the colour of the pen tool as I am finding it hard to see what state I am in.. eg when it is hoving over a point I can't see what state it is displaying as the pen is black and so is the line.

What's The Right Tool For The Job?
I was thinking about a app where a user could take their picture load it to the website and then see what they would look like in a clothing item, like a shirt. Now I'm imagining you would need sliders on the shirt to make it size correctly, to the picture, also the shirt whould then have to be draggable. Is this something thats do able in FLASH or is there another app out there that might be better suited?

FPS - Tool Bar
On the same bar as the onion skin button is a FPS number. It changes when the playhead is run even though I have set my frame rate. What does it means?

I have serious of buttons. Those buttons are done as icons without names. so is that possible in flash to give tool tip, below the cursor, as it is done in softwares.(i know the option of givining the required text in the over state, it will not be below the cursor.)

Has anyone been able to get the pen tool in CS3 to automatically fill a closed path, as it did in Flash 8? I went through preferences, but it didn't seem that there was an option to turn this on.
