Combining Files
learning flash over the past few weeks has generated a LOT of fla's - and many have effects i'd like to use but i seem to be having trouble combining them. copying and pasting frames is hit or miss (seems more so with the effects that are heavy script), symbols help but don't seem to seal the deal - and as far as i can tell there's no way to send layers. how should i go about this?

is there a way to import an swf? like, if i have one fla that has a great button effect but only one instance of it - can i flatten that into an swf (or something else?) and put it several times in the final, complete file?

and what exactly is a sprite? i somehow turned one of my fav effects into a swf that contains the word "sprite" in the title (i've seen the word here and at other flash sites) that doesn't do anything special so far as i can tell - i can't use it in fla's at all which is what i thought it was supposed to do - it acts just like any other swf.

I have a series that has an opening theme at the beginning of each episode. I have the theme saved as its own .fla and .swf file, and am wondering how to import it into the actual bigger file as an individual scene. Any help?

I am trying to combine two books together. It seems that I just need to put in a go to and play command and type the name of the file. I have done this but it still will not work. Does anyone have suggestions or know of a tutorial that can help? Thank you.

I built a preloader in a separate fla file from the file in which I want to use it.

What's the easiest way to bring the preloader into the other file?

PS the preloader consists of several movie clips with actions on some of them. The movie clips contain some bitmaps.

Help With Combining Flash Files
Hi. I'm new to flash, and am in an Interactive Web Design class. I made 4 web pages in Photoshop and then imported them to the stage. So, I have four .fla files. For the life of me I can't combine them so that I can set up the navigation. My deadline is this weekend, so I'm panicked. I've tried clicking and pasting my frames, but when I play the movie my home page shows up briefly and then disappears. When I click and paste frames from my portfolio page, and test it, my pages just fly through. My instructor set up my portfolio page which includes action script.

Can anyone give me advice? I would appreciate it so much!

LoadMovie-Combining Two Files
I am working in MX 2004. I have two separate swf files that I need to merge together and export as a projector file to burn to CD. I can get the first movie in place or I can get the second movie in place over the first, but I'm not sure how to script it so that the second swf file will play right after the first swf file.
I'm at a crunch time on this project any help would be gratly appreciated.
Also, i'm not really a programmer, so my Actionscript skills are very weak.

Combining .gif Images And .wav Files As A Swf
When I import the .gif image and the .wav file into the document, but when I add the sound file, and I preview it, the .wav doesn't loop; it just starts over and stops playing when it is over. How can I get the sound to loop over and over?

Publishing An .exe (combining Files)

Great forum, and an awsome site in general!

I would like to publsih a flash movie as an .exe, this movie uses a .txt document and some external .swfs (possibly even a database file, maybe even some XML).
I wondered if it was possible to pack ALL of this up in the .exe, in much the same way (on a mac) an application folder is constructed.

Any help would be great!

Tool For Combining Multiple Swf Files
Can anyone recommend a tool or utility that can combine multiple swf files?

I have 150 single-frame swf files exported out of Maya using Swiffworks, and now I want to combine those into one big 150 frame swf file. Does anyone know a good tool to do this?

Combining SWF Files Into Single File
I have about 45 swf files that were orginally from a powerpoint presentation. They run fine individually. I would like to be able to combine them into one single SWF or some sort of EXE that runs them. Can anyone tell me how to do that. Or is there a program,
( hopefully free ) that can do this.

They were created with a program called Flashpoint which is great as it utilized all the animations but the trial version puts a large logo over the master SWF file. Since I can't remove the logo and have the individual files I would like to combine them myself.

Sorry my budget only allows for so many toys in one month and this month I have already exceeded it.

I understand how to combine a simple flash file into another, but my problem is the files I am trying to combine have multiple scenes. How would I do this?

Combining Multiple XML Files To Use In Flash
I am still fairly new at the whole Flash...XML thing but I was wondering if it is possible to combine several XML files used to build photo galleries into one single XML file that Flash could then read which gallery depending on which gallery is selected. Basically I have about 10 photo galleries and 10 XML files. Each XML file is named different and in Flash I have the gallery calling the XML file. I was thinking it would clean things up a lot and make editing easier if I can some how make one XML with all the galleries contained inside the XML then write a variable or something so Flash knew which gallery to open when activated. Similar to how you have to write the variables for a text doc file. Any help would be great.

Alright Here is the deal.
I got some movies, which are seperate FLA. files, and I want to eventually add all these 4 seperate files, into scenes in one main FLA. file. How do I do this so that I have the symbols ect. I am pretty sure you can't just copy/paste.

Which FLASH** guru out there can lead me in the right direction?

Can Anyone Help? Combining Two Fla's
Does anyone know how to do this? (Links to fla's below) I'm trying to insert the motionblur scroller into the square which flips to display Mike Weiner's graphics in his portfolio. It's under his number two and is a featured fla on flashkit's homepage.

Using Flash 5, I've gone as far as changing tween 19's behavior to movie clip and deleting the original layer within the tween that contains his graphic. Afterward, I copied and pasted, frame by frame from the motionblur scroller to the "Tween 19" symbol in the portfolio.

The result was, I had all of the images (none masked) but no interactivity for the motion blur scroller.

If anyone can help me, I will appreciate it very, very much.

I'm trying to make a simple flash game. I found out how to detect collisons and how to make the gun and laser from actionscript.org but im not sure how to put them together so when the bulle goes through the target it is destroyed. Can someone help me with this?

Please Help With Combining 2 Fla's
I have a movie fla that I've got all set to go. Then I did a small animated text intro (from this site), an animated "welcome to my site".

What I'm trying to do is combine these nicely into 1 fla, have the intro, then somehow "fade" or "blend" into the main movie.

Combining Several .swf
Hi all, this is my first post I'm learning Flash MX, teaching myself and am a complete newbie...so here's my newbiw question

I have created several .swf files with the Swish tool. I want to combine them into one .swf and I want to add scenes and effects in Flash MX. How can I instruct a Flash MX movie I create to:

Play 1.swf
Play 2.swf
Play a scene I create in Flash itself
Play 3.swf
Play a scene I create in Flash itself

I know I can import .swf and I know I can instruct a key frame to play any given .swf at any given location. But it always hangs after playing 1.swf, I guess because this movie does not have an instruction to continue on to the others.

So how can I embed several .swf files and flash scenes into one larger movie?

Combining FLA's
I've finally taking the plunge, and purhased Macromedia 2004, and am now beginning to try and learn Flash MX. I've come across a great sample FLA file here on the site that I absolutely love, and am now trying to edit it up to the way I would like it.

So far, I've managed to sort of understand how the FLA file works, and have broken it up into two separate FLA files. Now what I want to do is take the second file, and add it back into the first, but to add the second file into the first on images left side, and to not have it run separately after the first, like it currently does.

Another thing, I want to do, it take this second file, and to reduce is entire size to fit actually inside the first files image.

I hope I explained this well enough for what I'm trying to do. I'm a rookie at understanding all about flash. Any help from you more experienced ones would be great.

Hey, I'm trying to combine some of the swf's I've created, but when I import them to the library, and set up my timeline, and press play they don't work properly, most of them are frame to frame animations, I want to make one long movie out of about 5 animations so it will loop. Combining On The Fly
Trying to figure out how to combine movies on the fly from a library of video clips. All of the clips have been converted into swf's. Need to dynamically load them so that they play one after the other. We have an SQL server & database at our disposal, but this is bigger than anything I've tried before.

Any ideas?

Combining Variables And The Like
Okay, I'm not even sure if this is possible, but I've been pulling my hair out. I know this is possible in other programming languages, but I'm far from an actionscript expert.

Okay, here's what I want. I want a button that when you roll over it, it generates a random number. Based on that random number, it then plays a random movie clip.

Here's what I've done so far:
I have a series of movie clips named a1,a2,a3...a55. I also have button that has the following script attached to it:
on (rollOver) {
_rooot.hit = random(60);
a1.play();
}

Now, obviously, when you rollover this button, it only affects the movie clip a1. How do I combine the varialbe "hit" with the object "a" to produce "a + hit"?

I'm updating a site. This site has two swfs that load into one. the problem is that the overlap is wrong. What I mean is that the navigation part needs to go over the graphic part. it is happening the other way around. How do you assing the layers? Thanks. When I fix it I'll link to it.

Combining Two Scripts
Hi,

I'm trying to make a menu for a university project with backwards forwards buttons in. I have made the mc with a hidden button inside it so when you rollover the animation plays one way and then when you roll out, the animation plays backwards. So far no problem.

I also made another blue mc with a button inside which moves from the left side of the screen to the right side when you click it. If you click it again it then moves back to the left side of the screen.

The problem I'm having is that I want to be able to combine both of these animations together. The swf can be seen at

When you rollover the "about" button I want it to move to the right to show the green square underneath. That bit works fine. However when you click the red "about" button I want it to detach from the green square and move to the other side of the screen and stop there. As the lower blue square does. I then want to be able to click the red button again or click another button and the red "about" button then moves back to join with the green square.

I've tried putting the blue mc inside the about mc but then when you rollover the about button it plays the whole animation and general messes up!
Does anyone have any suggestion? Or maybe a better way of doing this. I thought about attaching the blue square mc using attachmovie, but I couldn't get this to work how I wanted it to.

Puzzle (combining MCs?)
Hey, I'm working on a Flash jigsaw puzzle. Right now there is no grid to work off of or picture to look at, the user tries to assemble pieces onto the "mat" and if they get a piece in the right place it snaps into place. I would like to make it so that if the user puts two pieces together, but they're not in the right spot on the "mat", the two pieces will stay locked together so if the user moves one, the other will move with it.

I know I've seen a tutorial on how to do this but for the life of me I can't find it again. If anyone could point to an already written tutorial or perhaps give me a brief idea on an efficient way to do it, I would be very appreciative.

Combining Movies...
Is there a simple way to combine two clips, one of them is a actionscript that makes it snow and I want to place it ontop of my other clip so that I can make it look seasonal. Is there a better way to do this than using the loadmovienum feature? I tried to copy the snow clip into a movie on my other file but I couldn't get the action script to work. Any ideas?

Combining Frames..maybe?
Hi very new to flash so pls excuse.

I want to make an architectural presentation using flash - l have a series of realistic renders (taken from one viewpoint) of a room, each shows the effect of a light fixture - there are several fixtures. I want the user to be able to hit light switches and make a light come on.. Simple hey..l am thinking buttons where each switch is on the image.

The problem though is viewing a combination of lights, on or off.. how do you do that..? Im sure there's a very simple answer can anyone help me?

Combining 2 Functions
Hello.

I'm trying to combine the button function of (slideshow), without the alpha fade, with the side- scrolling function of (scroller).

Or,... in other words, I'd like to add a scrolling function to the slideshow, also removing the alpha fades. Is this possible?

Need bit of help with combining across and down for crossword. The across is 3 text boxes, first of which is movieclip, actvated when clicked. As type, curser jumps to next box. Works great.

I'm having problems combining them, with the first down letter in the middle of across (forming a T-shape). When typing across, the letters jump across the down mc. When typing down, the 3rd letter across fills in. Can anyone help please?

Can you combine two movieclips to make one?

For example of you have one movieclip that holds a jpeg, and another movieclip that lets the user draw.
Is there anyway that the drawing and the jpeg could be combined so that the drawing was in front of the jpeg, and make a new movieclip?
