Converting A Shape Into A CS3 Drawing Object
Hello!

I've noticed that when I draw, say a square, in CS3, it becomes a "Drawing object" (like a symbol that doesn't appear in the library), instead of a pure shape like in Flash 8.

But let's say I break a drawing object down into a shape, how do I convert this shape back into a drawing object?

I like drawing objects, they're cool for simple shapes that I don't want in my library, and that I don't want to get distorted like pure shapes (despite being placed at integer positions) particularly in large documents.

Anybody know?

Shape To Text Shape Tween Not Responding
I wanted to know if anyone has encountered this problem or can see that I'm doing something wrong. It really doesn't look too complex and I've also done it before with no issue. I'm only running 2gb of ram, but I've done this plenty of times with no latency and for some reason recently it just won't work. I'm using CS3 Pro, AS 3

Set up:
Draw a square in frame one
create a blank keyframe on say, frame 30
write some text on frame 30
shape tween the square into the text

Results:
If I tween the square to a single character-no problem
If I tween the square to a sentence slow tween on preview and publishing
If I tween 3 paragraphs it will bomb out and go into...not responding and I have to shut down the program

Any thoughts?

How do you do this. I want, for example. to make a simple square shape tween into the name, "Bryan". I fiddle with this, but it doesn't want to do it.

News Ticker: Error While Converting Static Text To Dynamic Text.
I made a simple news ticker. But am stuck with a silly error. I made the text static text. now when I make the text dynamic to load data from xml the text is not visible.

Converting Dynamic Text Box To Static Text Box
Hello there!

Im working on a flash movie and i want to do the following

1) to edit the text - using an xml-file
2) When the text is done i want to have only one .swf file that i can
put on my website, so that vistors worldwide only have to download 1
file containing both flash slide/sequence and the text that i have edited. The swf file should be non-XML dependent after i edited the XML file

I already figured out how to display the contents of my XML file in my flash movie.

Can anybody help me with this?

Help With Converting AS1 Scrolling Text Box To AS2
Hi there,

I began my site using AS1.
However once I got to putting up my photo gallery, and realizing that I wanted to do it with XML, I changed my publishing settings over to AS2.
Everything worked fine, except for this scrolling text box that you will find attached.

Is there somebody out there who could help me make the code for it AS2 compliant?
As well, I would love to make it load dynamically as it will be on my home section and will be my blog.

Converting Clouds Into Text
Hi,

I am trying to create an animation where the clouds turn into text . I have generated the clouds in flash 8 (not through actionscript).... The clouds look fine but cannot find a way to convert it into text. the clouds are as movieclip as without turning the shape into movie clip i could not add the blur effect and I cannot apply shape tween(to convert it further into text) to the movie clip directly.

Any Ideas?.....

Converting To Button = Bad Text
Hi,

I'm trying to create a button with static text on top of it. The text is perfectly clear, perfectly positioned, fff text. However, after I convert the text and a rectangle upon which it sits into a button the text goes a bit fuzzy. Does anyone know why? More importantly, does anyone know how to fix this?

Getting Text To Run Around A Shape
Hey ...anyone have a quick formula for making text in a TextField run around a Rect ...in Flash 9, i.e., without using the layout components in Astro?
I guess I could write a layout engine from scratch in AS3, doing some kind of recursive thing on the letters in the field, but it seems kinda nuts and might get pretty heavy on the user's processor with a lot of text and pix...and the only other thing I can think of is to have PHP cache the dynamic pix/text into PNG layouts when the data's updated on the back end, but then it's a bitmap...

Text As Shape
Thanks for taking the time to read my question.

I am working through my first Flash How To book. The topic I'm working on is Shape-Tweening.

The example in the book uses a capitol "T" and changes it to a capitol "I". I've tried everything I know, but can't get the letters to be shapes. I've tried converting them to "graphic" but a shape tween can't be done on a graphic, only a shape. If I leave the text as text, I get the same error, can't apply shape tween to the text.

How do I get the text to be a shape?

Converting Dynamic Text To Bitmap
I've built a two row stock ticker that runs from constatntly updated XML files but it locks up the processor on anything below 1.5ghz.

My suspicions are that as Flash only uses the processor (not the video card) and renders text as vector information I simply have too many points to move at a time.

So I was thinking, can I convert the dynamic text field instances to bitmaps on the fly much as you can in director?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[F8] Converting Text Strings To Characters
I want to create a movie clip that selects a random text string from an array and then animates that string as it follows a motion guide. The path of the string is going to have multiple 90 degree bends, however, and I want the text strings to smoothly follow the bend and be oriented to the path. I think the strings will have to be broken down into individual letters (characters) to follow the bend.

I think I can write the code to have the movie clip select the string, fade it onto the stage and begin moving it along the guide (although if anyone has suggestions for this I'd be happy to hear them).

My main question is how to break the text string into individual characters to follow the curve?

I need to do this for a few hundred words so it needs to be an actionscript 2 file that will work for any text string called from the arrays

[F5] Editing Text After Converting To Symbol?
Hello,

I am new to Flash (using Flash 5 specifically) and just started using it about 10 days ago. I have progressed quite a bit in that time, but it has been a steep learning curve. I come from an extensive Photoshop and Illustrator background, but had never used Flash before.

I am designing a flash website, and I want to have some side-scrolling text in my flash movie. I would like to be able to edit this text at least once a month, and completely change what it says. If I am correct, it appears that if I want to animate my text and have it scrolling, I must convert the text to a symbol first, before I can animate it. So, I converted the text to a symbol, and I was then able to animate it the way I wanted. AFTER doing this, when I try to select the symbol text, right click and click EDIT, I am unable to edit the text (change what the text says)..

Is there a way to do this? Or must I delete the old text symbol, recreate the text from scratch and reconvert it to a symbol and reanimate it all over again, each time I want to change what it says? I am hoping there is some way to edit it once I have set up my animation of it.

Converting Text To Movie Clip
I'm having trouble converting text or anything I make in flash into a movie clip. If I make the same thing in Photoshop, add it to the library, I can make it work, but this adds a lot of time.

Simple Example: trying to make text fade in or out, the text just shows up as 100%, if I do the same text in Photoshop, save it as a jpg and bring it over, it works fine. Am I missing something?

Converting Input Text Into Graphics?
Hello

I'm trying to see if this is even possible with Flash, I think it may work with either Flash + XML or PHP, but I have little experience in those two, I have an idea of what to do, just not a clear way of how to get there ......

What I am trying to do is convert text in an input box (either typed on the fly or copy/pasted) and have that output into 1px by 1px HEX# values in a mosaic tile effect in a second dynamic box (or possibly even exported as a .gif or .jpg) .. so basically, replacing each letter for a color one by one left to right.

I know that I need to give HEX# color values to both upper and lower case letters, as well as number, the space value, and punctuation .. so about 70 different values. so would that be an array in php? or XML?

As far as exporting goes, I heard that something called GD lib can be used to create graphics through PHP.... but not sure on how that can work with Flash possibly

Any ideas on this? or if it is even possible?

Converting Smiley From Text To Flash
I have dynamically loaded a text file into flash. In this text file, let say it contains the following message:

"Hi! How are you doing? : D I've just got this great game! : P. Blah Blah Blah"

Converting Text Special Characters...
Hi-

I'm trying to call a URL with a variable. I'm loading text into the variable, but need to convert the text into a format acceptable for yahoo maps...

So I need to convert spaces to +, etc. Is there a simple way to do this? Or a way to convert normal text with spaces and other characters into a format that yahoo or google maps will recognize?

Converting A PDF To A Flash FLA File Without Converting To An Image First?
Basically, I'm building a digital catalogue that runs off a CD and uses a Flash 'page turning component' to display the pages. Certain pages will have links that use Flash's Fscommand call to open Word and Excel documents.

Has anyone got any bright ideas of how to Convert a PDF to a Flash FLA file without converting to an image first?

I know I can open a PDF in Photoshop, save as a PNG or JPG and then import this into Flash, however the quality isn't brilliant. If you use a hi-res image, then you get a hi-res file size...

Currently, the best way I have found, is to open the PDF in Illustrator, then export it as a SWF. Illustrator converts all text to shapes and you end up with a small SWF, yet great quality when displayed in larger sizes. As I'm currently using a page turning flash component that loads SWF files, I need the quality to be good for the 'Zoom' function.

I've found an Illustrator script that will do the hard work via a 'batch' process, so I can take a 100 page PDF and convert the whole lot to 100 SWF files while I drink tea and 'look busy' and read a magazine, but the problem I have is that I need to add a layer of buttons to several of the SWF files to add a little functionality....

I do have a SWF to FLA decompiler which does a good job, however because Illustrator turns everything into shapes, the decompiler does the same and you end up with thousands of files in the library.... Plus there are a lot of error messages when the file is first loaded...

Many layers are masked, (for some reason without a fill), so if you publish the decompiled file straight away, you just get a blank file. Once you go through and fill the masks needed, it shows when you publish, but this really is a lot of work and I've had a few pages that show when you open the SWF file, but don't show when the SWF is called into the page turning file.... Hmmm....

So in short, I'd like to take a PDF and convert it to a FLA file, add a layer of buttons and publish as a SWF file....

Anyone got any 'Pearls of Wisdom'?

Shape Tweening With Text
Hi people, wonder if you could help. I'm trying to animate text that wafts slights, as it's attached to a flying banner towed by a plane. However, when I shape tween it, the text distorts slightly, before returning to it's normal shape in the last frame. I've tried using shape hints but that doesn't seem to work. What is the best way in which to do such an animation? Any help would be very much appreciated - cheers guys.

Text Shape Tweening
I have a problem with creating a shape tween with text.

I found these steps on the forum but the result wassen't what it had to be. It did'nt morph at all.

"Type in your first text in the first frame and hit CTRL + B.
Go to frame 10 and press F6 to insert a keyframe.
Delete the text in frame 10 and type the text that you want the first text to morph into. With the text selected, hit CTRL + B to break it up.
Select the first frame and in the Frame Panel choose Shape for Tweening."

This picture indicates my problem. There is no arrow on my timeline.

This is a very basic question. I am having trouble having text do a shape tween. I know you must break it apart. (that should convert the text into a fill...I thought). Then I know each tween must be on a separate layer. So why do I keep getting a dotted line on my tween?

Shape Tweened Text
I'm clear on shape tweening simple line drawings I make in Flash but what about the text from the text tool? I tried creating text in the main time line with the text tool and then converting it to a symbol, then within the mc's timeline I create a shape tween.

When this didn't work, I tried breaking the text apart first and then converting it to a symbol and tweening it in the mc's timeline, or making the symbol and then breaking it apart. Still no luck,

What gives?

Text Shape Jacked Up
Hello all,

I know this is a small problem but it is keeping me from completing my work.

I am trying to make small text start at the bottom left out of scene, come into scene to a larger size and stop in the middle.

I have this working however, I noticed that as the text hits the second frame parts of it are missing. Is it because the break apart required to do a shape tween cuts off certain fonts?

I have followed a tutorial and found the exact steps I am taking in others. Any ideas?

If you go to the section "ABC Add text" .. there are shape effects which are exactly what we need, BUT IT IS DONE IN JAVASCRIPT ... well we need to make our app in Flash ..

Would you have an idea how to script this same stuff or anything? Seems like flash can do this kind of deformation only with shape objects but no MC or TEXT ...
