Converting A PDF To A Flash FLA File Without Converting To An Image First?
Basically, I'm building a digital catalogue that runs off a CD and uses a Flash 'page turning component' to display the pages. Certain pages will have links that use Flash's Fscommand call to open Word and Excel documents.

Has anyone got any bright ideas of how to Convert a PDF to a Flash FLA file without converting to an image first?

I know I can open a PDF in Photoshop, save as a PNG or JPG and then import this into Flash, however the quality isn't brilliant. If you use a hi-res image, then you get a hi-res file size...

Currently, the best way I have found, is to open the PDF in Illustrator, then export it as a SWF. Illustrator converts all text to shapes and you end up with a small SWF, yet great quality when displayed in larger sizes. As I'm currently using a page turning flash component that loads SWF files, I need the quality to be good for the 'Zoom' function.

I've found an Illustrator script that will do the hard work via a 'batch' process, so I can take a 100 page PDF and convert the whole lot to 100 SWF files while I drink tea and 'look busy' and read a magazine, but the problem I have is that I need to add a layer of buttons to several of the SWF files to add a little functionality....

I do have a SWF to FLA decompiler which does a good job, however because Illustrator turns everything into shapes, the decompiler does the same and you end up with thousands of files in the library.... Plus there are a lot of error messages when the file is first loaded...

Many layers are masked, (for some reason without a fill), so if you publish the decompiled file straight away, you just get a blank file. Once you go through and fill the masks needed, it shows when you publish, but this really is a lot of work and I've had a few pages that show when you open the SWF file, but don't show when the SWF is called into the page turning file.... Hmmm....

So in short, I'd like to take a PDF and convert it to a FLA file, add a layer of buttons and publish as a SWF file....

Help Converting Swf To Video For A DVD
I'm a senior in High School and I need to send in animations on a DVD for some of the colleges I'm applying to. The thing is, I have no clue how to get my flash animations onto a DVD.

I have Flash MX, and I have been told to go to publish settings > convert in Flash 5 mode and to choose quicktime on the publishing list. But so far, this doesn't make a real video- it seems to still be a flash movie.

So please, how do I convert flash movies to video? And then to DVD. What free programs can make a full quality convertion?

It goes without saying I need to get this done before a deadline, so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have a project that i need to export to an avi or mov file. Does anyone know of any 3rd party exporters. I have tried swf2avi and the quality is a bit choppy. The export in the actual flash IDE doesn't work because i have MC's within MC's.

How can you take and uploaded video and convert it to a flv to display on a
web site?
I assume that this is what youTube does to convert all the uploaded videos
to flv's for us to watch. Hard to believe there is a team of people waiting
for a video to upload to instantly, manually convert it :)

Anyone know where to find information on this? All my Google searches come
up with software for me to convert. Don't need that. Got Flash CS3 :)

Converting To Video
I want to export my movie in an .avi format, but in my experimenting, it appears that the only setting that looks good is 32 bit. I have a lot of fx that also only appear in 32. The problem is that the file size is huge- over 500 megs. Any suggestions?

As the title says, I'd like to know if any of you know a way to load other video file formats than FLV, or have ever seen anyone do it..?

Since I haven't done all that much with external video in Flash I was just wondering if there are any possibilities of loading, let's say, external MOV's (quicktime) or AVI's for that matter into a mediaplayer-component..

Flash Video - Works When Testing But Not At Runtime
I am using an FLVPlayback component to load a video. In my code, a use a URLLoader to grab a variable from php. The variable is used to determine whether the video should automatically play from the start or jump to the end (where the user must then click a button to cause it to play).

This all works fine when I test within Flash. But when I load to my test server, the video always runs from the start - even when the variable coming from php directs it to jump to the end.

Does anyone have an idea as to what I've got wrong? I can post my code if that helps.

Hello, I have a video which I want to change into a FLV file - in order to insert it on my Flash.

I can insert normal videos using my PC, but the Mac's in school don't like them (videos) at all - so I assume it must be FLV.

Problem is, I've looked around for programs to do this and found nothing of any real use - could someone do this for me or recommend a good program in order to do it?

I am a complete newbie to Flash, and pretty new to digital video as well...

I have been tasked with taking legally obtained video clips (in MANY different forms, DVD, VHS, quicktime, etc....) and converting them for use in a flash viewer on a website.

I don't even have Flash right now, but am trying to figure out where to begin.

1) Is there an effective way of ripping footage from a DVD to convert to flash?

2) When I obtain all of these clips, what is the best digital format to use to convert to .FLV files (which I have read is the file to use)?

3) Do I need to be concerned about a codec, or simply convert to flash?

4) I guess the biggest questions would be.... can you recommend any good tutorials or even text books. I'm fairly desperate for help

I need help converting .SWF files to video format like AVI. I tried exporting it in Flash its self but the quality is poor. [CS3] Help Converting .WMV Video To Flash
I am working with Flash CS3 Professional.

Everytime I try to convert a wmv video into a swf it never plays it's proper size in the HTML document... even if I set the dimensions in Flash and the code itself it always displays much smaller dimensions then what I set them to be.

For example.. if I load up a .FLV file taken from a video that is 320x240 originally , after it's published out of Flash CS3 the video on the HTML it creates is always playing in a much smaller size than 320x240 even if the dinmensions are set in the code to 320x240..

So what the hell is going wrong??

Does anyone know if it is possible to have a flash site stream a movie from a URL provided by the user and show the video in flash regardless of what format it is in originally? For instance www.someblablasite.com/myfunnyvideo.mov or .avi or .wmv or .ra or whatever they are called these days...

Is it at all possible? Im not expecting a working solution, i just need to know if it is possible. Youtube seem to manage it, and i saw a post asking something like this further down, but no one had answered. Even if the solution incorporates some other programming language, I still wanna know (i just... learn it)... =)

Hi All,

Recently my client supplied me videos in M2P format to be used in Flash project. I guess this format is MPEG2 which is used by HDTV or Broadcaster.

I was trying to convert it to flv format but My Flash 8 could not accept it for conversion. Ultimately I requested for MPEG1 format and it worked very well.

Is it that M2P format can not be converted to flv or am I missing something?

Converting Flash To DVD Video
I created a flash promotional message for my company, originally very interactive, but the final version was a straight animation with an interactive FAQ at the end.

The execs liked it and now want a DVD version they can drop into DVD players and have looping in the employee breakrooms and such.

I know I can chop off the FAQ, but does anyone have any ideas how to best get this out to DVD format? I used multiple scenes and symbols and layered symbols within symbols. If I do a straight AVI export, only the main timeline gets exported.

Is there a way to do this without rebuilding my movie from the ground up?

Preparing The Video Before Converting To FLV
When transferring video from a vidcam, is there a particular video format that results with the best compression when converted to FLV?

Thus far, I've had great success with AVI. An uncompressed 200mb AVI file was compressed to a 4mb FLV file (using Cinepak codec).

However, when I tried converting a 3.5mb MPEG file, it became a 5mb FLV!

Note: I'm taking into consideration that the MPEG file's dimensions are slighty bigger than the AVI used. Nonetheless, it's suprising that instead of shrinking in file size, an MPEG-to-FLV conversion actually bloats.

Is it safe to say that AVI is considered the best video format before it is converted to FLV?

Converting Swf File To Broadcast Quality Movie File
I'm using a Patrick Jansen effect in flash and if I try to export it the way I usually do for movie credits - ie export to quicktime - all I get is a grey box. The only way I can get the movie into a quicktime file correctly is to save the file as an swf then use "swf and flv player" to export each frame as a tif then recompile in quicktime.
Is there a program that will convert the SWF to quicktime in one go and keep the quality? It's for a movie, so I need it very high res.

Is it possible to modify the audio/video playback speed of an mp3, flv, or video swf file during runtime?

I'm trying to determine whether or not it's possible to create an audio/video playback controller that allows the user to slow down content or speed it up while maintaining audio output.

I've looked through the documentation for the Media Class in MX 2004, but haven't found any methods for controlling playback speed.

Rob Penner created a great fps modifier, but it only updates the stage, and not audio.

[F8] Problem Converting SWF Into Video Format
I have a swf with a video in it that I created. I want to export the swf as an avi from Flash 8 and when I do, the video used in the movie doesn't show. I have tried at least 10 different settings and nothing has worked.

I think the best way to go it for me to convert the swf into a video file (avi, mpg, or avi) and I assume it wouldn't alter the video being used in the swf.

Converting Image Sequences Into Video (inside Flash)
On my narrow search for transparent video, the only solution I could come up with was converting a movie into an image sequence, using photoshop droplets to erase certain areas, and then exporting with .PNG's.

So how can I get an image sequence (~500 frames) back into Flash, letting the images keep their transparency AND allowing the images to be played at 30 frames a second, so it still looks like a video.

If there's a better way to do this entirely, please, let me know.

Capture .BMP Or .JPG Of Swf File At Runtime?
All the info on this that Ive seen has been huge insane workarounds.

Basically, the user is able to arrange things like text and clipart on a stage. I want to be able to capture the image of what they did. If I get the whole screen thats fine... I just need to be able to capture that image and save it to the server.

I figure that by pressing the "PRNT SCR" button on the keyboard can do it, it can be mimiced on the server side with something that flash can just trigger.

Hi, I've been looking for tutorials for creating an MP3 player and I've found a few that work with an xml file, but this means hard coding the xml file into the flash file before publishing. I have a site im working on where once on each page the user has to listen to a file and then at that point answer questions on it. I don't want them to be able to browse the tracks at each stage.

Is is possible to create a generic mp3 player and then at the insertion point in the html pass the name of the file to be played at that point? If so can someone point me in the direction of a tutorial which shows me how to do it please.

Loading Images From A File At Runtime
Hi,

I was wondering is there a way to load images at run time that are loaded from an external webhost. Basically i want to be able to store the addresses of the images into an array and then each slide is going to contain 1 image, which will load the next image in the array when the user clicks the next button.

I'm fine with getting the array setup etc, but need to know is it possible to use web addresses and load images at runtime?? Aswell as defining a size and position for where the image will appear.

I'm not sure if Flash 8 supports this loading on the fly so the speak?? Basically I will update the images when required by replacing them with the same name and address where the photos are being hosted, but the program will still load from the same address, therefore showing the updated images.

Sorry for that being so long winded, but the first thing i need to know is, is there a way to load images in this way?? If so any general guidance would be appreciated and then i can write the code myself im sure :-D

Problems With File At Runtime....very Strange

hope that someone can help me out with this.

I have the following problem:
if I test my flashfile within Flash(8) I have problems with the content to show up...basically nothing shows up.
preloading works...then I have a language picker ..but after that the content doesnt show up if i forward to the main page....

if I check the swf in the standalone flashPlayer (9).....everything works and is there....so I have no clue what the problems is...

I tried to upload on my testServer....well the same as if I test in Flash...

I need some help...cause I have to finish the project next week...and still theres some stuff to do...
