Flash :: Creating Flash Banner With Buttons

Help With Creating A Flash Banner
Hi,

I need some help with a creating/replicating a flash banner I saw online. I cant find it anymore but I will do my best to describe it.

The banner had multiple images layered on top of each other horizontally. Each image covered the image to the left of it. When you moused over an image the image expanded to full size while the other remained contracted.

How can I create something with the above description? Are there any good tutorials for something like this or maybe someone can provide me with a few tips/tricks for doing this?

I am proficient in PShop and a beginner with Flash so the design portion is not the hard part, just the programming/setup in flash is what has me stumped.

Advice For Creating An Expanding Flash Banner

I'm creating a Flash banner ad for a client, and the whole ad is clickable, but I'd also like to make the button grow bigger and light up when rolled over, which would mean the ad would now have 2 buttons and I've heard that some websites don't support ads with 2 buttons, is this so?

Creating A Banner That Changes
Hello everyone,

I’m trying to create a banner that crossfades between multiple images. I’m using Flash, and I know how to build it using the timeline, but I’m wondering if there is a more efficient way to do it. I also want buttons on it so that the user can select an image to jump to at any time.

You can find an example that is pretty much what I’m looking for at www.dayair.org. Really, the only difference is I would like one that crossfades. Thanks for your help!

Help With Creating Scrolling Ad Banner
Hi there.

I'm kinda new to Flash, and my knowledge covers about the bare minimum.

Anyway, I have been searching for a tutorial to help me with creating a scrolling Ad Banners, that would scroll up a page, and stop when a user hovers his or her mouse pointer over a banner ad, but I can not find one.

What I would like is as follows.
Scrolling banner adverts going from bottom to top.
When you hover over it with your mouse, the scrolling stops. Then starts again once you move your mouse pointer away.
The banners need to be linked. (Technically I can do that, but there may be some other way to do it in this process)
Optional: This isn't important, and doesn't need to be in this. But if there is a way I can incorporate the banners within a database or something, so that when I want to add a new banner, or remove one, I don't have to edit the main fla file, but rather just add the image or swf to a folder in the directory. (hope I made that understandable.)

So if anyone would be willing to help, or just give me a link to a tutorial which covers the points I need, it will be greatly appreciated.

Creating A Random Set Of Banner Texts
Hey all,

I want to create the effect of different headlines being tweened across teh screen, with fade ins and outs.

I figured I could create an array to store the different headlines.
then to have a funtion tha picks a random y value between the top and bottom then generates a tweene form left to right or right to left, fading in and out again.

problem is im not sure where to start in doing this in actionscript so any help with direction would be appreciated.

Invisible Button On Gnome Banner, Flash Tutorials - Create A Banner
Hi, I'm currently doing the flash tutorial that has three parts to creating a banner. I do exactly as the tutorial does, but I can't get the URL to open up. Everything is exactly the same as the banner, I even copied and pasted the banner and actionscript into my file from the tutorial example, but it still doesn't work.

Creating Banner With Larger Version Displayed Onload
First off, I would like to say I'm relatively new to developing in flash. I understand most of the basics and have a good understand of how the tool works for basic buttons, images and layouts.

I’m looking for help creating a banner ad that shows a bigger ad onload then returns to the typical banner dimensions after a specified duration or when close button is released.

I have seen this design on many sites and would like to add it to my site for displaying customer notices and in house promotions. An example can be seen at http://www.excite.com/ for what I’m looking for.

Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to put a 468x60 Flash banner advert on an HTML page.

If the viewer doesn't have the Flash player plug-in installed, I would like to default to a GIF banner ad.

Can anyone point me to a source of information on how to accomplish this?

Creating Buttons In Flash (Up, Over, Down, Hit)
Ok you know when you covert a symbol to a button and then give it an instance name and then double click on the button to edit it in place and you the see a new time line up top which says Up, Over, Down & Hit?

Well lets say i want to have it so when a person hovers their mouse over the button, it moves like 5 pixels down. I would have the Up state normal and then the Over state would have the button placed 5 pixels down.

But i want to now add a drop of water that comes off the button. so when a person hovers over the button, it moves 5 pixels down and then a drop of water comes off it.

It only gives me 1 frame to work with for the Over state. Is there a way to extend the number of frames for the Over state?

Creating Buttons On Flash Website
Okay, this is probably a dumb question for some of you, but I am a newbie to flash and am trying to get started. I have attached my flash file so that you can help me if you would like.

I have a little intro to my site. I am getting stuck on a certain part though. I am wanting to have buttons scroll in from the right side of the screen. I was able to make symbols scroll in from the right, but I am having a hard time making them do what I would like them to do. One is a home button that I would like to use to send the user back to a certain frame. I have tried and tried the gotoandplay function but cant get it to go to another frame. If I can get that solved, that would be a huge help.

Help Creating URl Links For Buttons Flash CS3
I know...I know I am a Newbie and this is probably kids stuff for most of you...but anyway here goes.

I have been a dreamweaver user building webpages for the past couple years. Recently I purchased the CS3 package and I have been experimenting with flash. I downloaded a menu from flashkit.com, I customized it and built the design for a webpage around it. It looks great, however I am having a problem. I can get to the Up, Over, Down, Hit portion of the timeline, but here is where I get stuck. I need to make the button link to a URL when clicked. I have no idea where to start. I know there is an AS3 script that needs to be added, yet I don't know where to add it or how to write the script. If any of you Flash experts can point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

Creating Back Buttons In Flash CS4 AS 3

Thought I would give more info on my problem creating a button in Flash CS 4 AS 3.

I have an intro page that users see when they type in my url. On the intro page I have a ENTER BUTTON that takes the user to my homepage and the enter button works fine. Here is the AS for the enter button:

Creating A Back/forward Buttons For A Flash App
Apologies if this has been answered already- i did a search but I couldnt solve my problem. If someone finds a thread that does, please tell me.

Problem: I am creating an application in flash 2004 MX that will run in its own projector, and i want to add Back/Forward buttons like in your web browser. This app will be divided into 4 scenes, with each scene having a about 4 pages in it. It'll be a 16 page app basically.

Could someone tell me a way of creating this- bearing in mind that Flash will have to remember pages from different scenes.

I'm not brilliant with AS, my skills with using variables and functions are at about n00b level.

Problem Creating Buttons In Flash CS 4 Action Script 3.0
Hello,

I am creating a new website in Adobe Flash CS 4. I created an intro page that has an enter button and when I test the swf file to enter button works fine and directs me to the homepage. But I also on the homepage created a button that takes the user back to the intro page. I basically used the same action script in 3.0 for both buttons and just changed the frames that the button go to and changed the instance name for each button. I am putting actions on it's own layer above all the other layers.

I get a error sayings same function being used and the file keeps looping and running over and over. Please let me know what I am doing wrong and what action script to use for a button that takes you back to another page within my website.

Flash Mx Prof 2004 Version 7: Creating Url Links For Buttons
Hello Guys,

Please, please please help, I have just upgraded my flash mx to flash mx 2004 professional version 7 and now I wish I didn’t. After opening an flash mx file (mx fla) onto mx 2004 professional named it as doc 1 . I wanted to add a simple url link by creating a button and typing the script. At first I typed the flash mx script, then tested the movie by typing f12

on (release) {

and got the error message

**Error** Scene=preloader, layer=buttons, frame=10:Line 1: Statement block must be terminated by '}'

and then I typed

and still got the same error as above.

After that I wanted to test the script to see if it worked on a new fresh mx 2004 prof document called doc 2 and created a new button and typed the script again

getURL("http://www.xd-tv.com"), ("_blank");
}

and published it again and it worked.

So after that I was confused as to why it didn’t work on doc 1. I even removed all the script on the button and still got the same error message, which confused me even more cause that script no longer existed.

My initial thoughts were that doc 1 wasn’t responding to any changes made. so if anyone out there can help can you tell me the following:

1)have I typed the right script to make a button link o a URL?
2)Is there a way of refreshing flash mx 2004 professional?
3)Why is it still showing the same error messages .

Id would be grateful if someone can help me, I def have learnt a lesson don’t run until you can walk properly I,e master flash mx before going to 2004 prof.

Creating A Simple Flash Movie With Poster Frame And Play/Pause Buttons
I have the .flv file and now I want to create a video player with play/pause buttons nad a poster frame.

I posted this over at the Adobe forums yesterday, but haven't had any response so I thought I would try here.

It's been over a year since I played with Flash last, and I have completely forgotten everything I learned.

I have a .flv file which I want to play on my website. It should display a poster frame when the page load, and not autoplay the movie. It should have the play button I made in photoshop sitting on top of the poster frame. When pressed, the movie should start playing and the button should be shifted for the pause button I made in PS (it should work just like the play/pause button in iTunes). When the movie has finished playing, it should jump back to the poster frame.

I have tried using the flvplayback component and also played around with just embedding the flv directly and inserting a play and pause button from the common library, but I can't seem to get it to work. With the flvplayback component I have managed most of it apart from using my own buttons and getting the poster frame to work (which apparently has to be done with Action script).

As I said, I know nearly nothing about this and it might just be a problem of me not knowing what terms to put into Google.

Any help/links appreciated.

Expandable Banner Problem Rollover Buttons
I have an expandable banner which has a video player in its expanded state, during this state I have a button that covers the entire stage with a rollout that causes it to collapse. Then on a layer above that the play pause and volume controls as buttons.

Whenever I rollover these video buttons it collapses the banner, so they become useless.

I tried putting expand functions as rollover on the video controls however this causes the video to restart.

I've attached the fla, any help would be appreciated.

Creating A Flash Game, Buttons Pressed = Play Movie Clip, Stuck On How To Start
Hello All, as it's Christmas time, the time of goodwill to all, I thought now would be the best opportunity to post this 'plea for help'. Don't worry I'm not asking you to create it for me I'm just looking for a 'heads up', or for (metaphorically speaking) someone to show me the door so I can walk through it.

Basically I need a wee bit of help on what I actually need, how I need to go about creating it, where I need to put it, and so forth.

Feel free to call me 'stupid' or 'moron' throughout this thread as I have accepted that in doing something like this is completely beyond my capabilities, but hey, if I get a step in the right direction I may just pull it off.

Right I'm basically trying to create a penalty shoot out game, where the gamer has the best of 20 penalties to score a goal.

What I planned to do goes a little something like this.

Game loads

Screen pops up, saying "blah blah blah welcome, instructions, blah blah blah"

"Please enter your name" (User enters name in a text field, this is stored)
"Please enter your team" (User enters team name in a text field, this is stored)
"Please choose difficulty" (dropdown list of either 1. Easy, 2. Medium, 3. Hard)

User then has to press 9, and the title screen goes away and the game starts.

Scoreboard at the top of the screen, a goal, a ball and a keeper on the game screen.

Scoreboard states how many penalties taken (starts at 0) and how many scored (starts at 0).

The user has the option of pressing 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 (this is where the football will go, e.g. 1 = bottom left, 2 = bottom middle, 6 = top right etc)

The user makes their choice and presses the button.

A random number is generated between 0 and 10. if difficulty is easy then any number between 1 and 9 is a goal, if difficulty is medium then any number between 1 and 7 is a goal, if difficutly is hard then any number between 1 and 5 is a goal.

Lets say the user pressed the number 4

if it is a goal then play movie clip goal4 and add 1 to the penalties taken and add 1 to score.

if it is a miss (e.g random number is 8,9 or 10) then play movie clip miss4 and add 1 to the penalties taken and 0 to the score.

Once the penalties taken = 20, then end the game.

Creating Animated Buttons Tut-Linking The Buttons To Content
I followed Lee's excellent tut on creating buttons using movies clips.

I am rather confused as to how the buttons can be linked to content -

ie Portfolio button to portfolio page - Contact button to contact page.

Im rather new to flash 8 however from my understanding of MX2004 I know
how to create a behaviour on a button symbol to play a certain page. After playing about with Flash this evening I was unable to get any button created using the tut to link to another page.

Can someone point me in the right direction, code or otherwise.

Creating Buttons, But Not Ordinary Buttons
Okay, I feel like I have really achieved something, I created my first animation project. Now that everything is completed in the animation, I would like to make the parts that are now done moving, be turned into buttons. Do I have to re-create the entire project and make each part a button? Can't I just add it to the end? Please help if anyone is able.

Flash 4, Creating "over" Animations For Buttons
I know I am behind times, but this seems like a simple question, I just can't solve it myself.

What I am looking for is an animation where when you mouse-over a button, it surges and glows, then recedes slowly if your mouse leaves the button. Its easy enough to create the neccessary movie clips, but whenever I take my mouse off the button it instantly reverts to its normal state rather than slowly shrinking. How can I cause the button to slowly return to its normal state after mouse-contact is done.

Creating Buttons
I know this is a very basic question, and I know how to create a traditional button, but can anyone tell me how to create a "mouseover" effect in flash. I would like to be about to mouseover the button and have an image pop up in a different area of the screen (across the page), but each time i use the "over" state and test the movie, the whole page becomes the button and anywhere i place my mouse, the mouseover shows up.

I am trying to create a search function for a flash movie. I'm loading a "database" ( really just a large XML file ) into an array. Each array element has a "keywords" variable that holds a list of keywords (e.g. "floors rugs carpets").

I have about 30 companies defined and I do a keyword search on the companies. If the company keywords matches the user input, we have a match and I display the company name.

Now I want to update that to include a clickable URL. I've added a dynamic HTML text box and that worked great...until I imported the flash movie into director. Apparently, the HTML links won't work through director.

Now what I want to do is create a flash button, on the fly, that has the URL in it. Can I do this? This has to be created at run time and NOT design time. The functionality should be similar to "smartclip", but again, should be created at runtime, not design time.

Creating Buttons
I have read an XML-file into an XML object. This XML file can contain a variable number of entries (nodes), and I wish to create an object (button) that the user can click and navigate to an URL. I get the URL from the different XML nodes.

The problem is that I can't seem to find a solution on how to create a button using Actionscript. Since I will have a variable number of nodes in the XML file, I need to create a variable number of buttons.
Anyone know how I can solve this problem ?

Creating Buttons On The Fly
Hi group. How's it going in flashland today?

How would I go about creating button objects on the fly in a Flash MX movie?

Now the question gets a little more intense here... I can already do this by creating a button movie object in the movie library and create instances of it using the attachMovie() actionscript function.

But here's the catch: I want to be able to use the loadMovie() function instead, in order to load small jpeg files that I wish to use as thumbnails and link to bigger images or other scenes in the movie. Savvy?

I am not able to do this so far. I can dynamically load up the thumbnail images, but I can't figure out how to make them act like button objects and assign them an action. What do I do flashlords?

I have visited several tutorials to create a button as a link and each one shows menu options i do not have. such as press F8 to make symbol, (that part works) but then it says to go right click goto actions and pick basic options/url. this option does not exist on my menu.. any help here would be appreciated... I'm using AS3 (just started with it) and tryed one time only to trash most of it... Because it didn't work of cause... What I'm trying to do is to change it a little bit. Than the file where the buttons' actually supose to be is named ButtonBase.
I need to buttons to work like this:
You have a base-layer (button base) containing two movieclips; ButtonText and ButtonBackground
ButtonText is again made up of three movieclips, one containing the text-object and two containing squeres that's equal size to the button itself, each with different color, and one with alpha = 0. The one with alpha = 0 is to be named ButtonTextOverlay and the other one is named ButtonTextColor. ButtonText is to be set as mask to both of these layers, and it's very important that the ButtonTextOverlay is above the ButtonTextColor movieclip.
ButtonBackground is made up of two layers and is made the accact same way as ButtonText (exept the text-movieclip). It's movieclips is to be named ButtonBackgroundColor and ButtonBackgroundOverlay. All help and tips will be aprisiated. Thnx.

Help On Creating Animated Buttons
i've created animation for rollover and down buttons...& converted it to movie clip..

When i run it, 'roll-over' animation works fine...but my 'down' mc doesn't load when i click with my mouse. It only works if i press-hold over the roll-over button then i can see the it.

how can i make 'down' mc appear when i just click over the roll-over button??

do i need action scrip somewhere - separate scene?? i hope this make sense--

i'm going crazy trying to figure it out...

Creating Buttons Using ActionScript
I am using Flash MX.

I require buttons to be created dynamically by the action script depending on outside conditions as to how many buttons need to be created and what their content is. Is there a way to do this because im having trouble.

i tried myButton = new Button; then assigning a variety of attributes but it doesnt seem to work.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Creating Invisible Buttons
I am trying to create program functionality to allow the FLash MX accesibility function to read an inaccessible background. The solution I have come up with is to create an invisible button which can use the Accessibility function in FLASH MX. The only time the button should appear is when we mouseover or roll over the button.

It would also be ideal if the button includes some written text as well. The text should also only be visible when we mouseover/rollover the button. I was wondering if someone could help me out and let me know what the easiest way is to create an invisible button and also to include a text box.

If the button is acessible we might not even need any text but I figured better safe then sorry.
