Sorry, I think something is wrong with my browser. Anyways, here's my situation:

I am creating a control bar for some video I've imported into Flash. I've already created a status bar and pause/play button. They work fine. Now I would like the status bar to be scrollable. In other words, I'd like the user to be able to drag the status bar forward and reverse to control the movie. Can anyone direct me to a tutorial or explain how this can be done? Thanks!!!

Thanks in advance to anyone who can even guide me in the right direction. I'm completely new to flash. By trade, I'm a physicist/programmer. This is a whole new world to me.

Right now, my current job, involves me developing VoIP software. For the new week or so, I've been given the task of creating a flash video to introduce people to the new functionality that we've added to the phones.

My vision for this is to have the introductory screen that displays the phone itself, the model #, and have a sidebar that will allow the user to navigate to different parts.

At each section of the video I would like to have a demonstration of how to actually perform the task I am trying to explain. A simple example of this would be to show the necessary button strokes to carry out the call transfer function. I would ideally like to make it interactive so that the user would have to press the buttons to move onto the next section. However, if this is difficult, I would be fine with highlighting the buttons in sucessive order to give them an idea of what is going on.

The most difficult task for me is that I would like to update the LCD display on the phone image after each keystroke. I know I have to take pictures of the with my camera, and pull them in. Is there any way to sync up the timing of the button pressing to the highlighting of the buttons on the phone itself. Or do you think it's a waste of time to update after each stroke, and just do it after the sequence has played itself out?

Anyways, I'm sure many of you could do this in the blink of an eye so I'd appreciate any help you can give me. If you have an idea of how to do something better, please let me know. I'm new to this and I'd be grateful for the advice. I haven't had much luck finding good tutorial sites so far.

I am wanting to create a interactive cd (video cd) with my portfolio on it. I think that if I put the player on the cd and tell the movie to use the player on the cd to play it would work. Only prob is I am a little confused in how to this. Is it possible?

Creating Flash Video Issues
I am trying to convert a .mpg to a Flash video and can get most of the way but it's not playing on my web page. I can view locally when I do a open with IE and it plays before I upload all the files but once I upload all the files it will not play.

These are the steps I am taking to do this:
1. Open Macromedia Flash Professional 8
2. Select File/New/Flash Document
3. In Document Properties change Dimensions to: 354px w x 240px h
4. File/Import/ImportVideo...
5. Where is your video file? On your computer: (Browse to file 'ff.mpg' and select Ok) then click 'Next'
6. Deployment: I select 'Progressive download from a web server' (click Next)
7. Encoding: In dropdown I select Flash 7 - Medium Quality (400 bps) and on right side change my slider to start where I want it to and then click 'Next'
8. Skinning: Skin = ClearOverPlayMute.swf and click 'Next'
9. Finish Video Import: Click 'Finish'
10. Then a Save As pops up and I save to demo.fla (Flash Video Encoding Progress shows it encode the video)
11. I can see the video in Flash 8 and view the video by going to Control/Test Movie and works great.

In my /flash folder I have the following files: ff.mpg, demo.fla, ff.flv, ClearOverPlayMute.swf, demo.swf
12. Open Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 and create new web page (File/New)
13. Click on the flash icon and select demo.swf and it creates code and upload demo.html along with all the other files excep ff.mpg

Does anyone have any ideas why this isn't working? Do I have to set something on the server? A friend with MX didn't do any encoding.

I'm in desperate need of some guidance on how to actually convert an avi file over to a Flash Video (FLV) that I can eventually insert into a Captivate movie. I do have Flash but have no clue where to start (new to Flash personally). Can anyone possibly provide some step by step instructions on how to do this? I do have the AVI file on my hard drive and would really appreciate some step by step instructions.

Since I'm new to Flash and haven't yet received any training, I'm really in the dark.

Creating Credits Over Flash Video
Hello,
Could anyone please help point me in the right direction? I'm trying to create a layer on top of an encoded piece of flash video with a simple line of text that fades in, remains on screen for 4 seconds and then fades back out.

I'm having trouble figuring out the most efficient way of going about this. I tried creating a new layer, adding the line of text, converting it to a movie clip and applying a timeline effect, but I cannot figure out how to make it fade both in and out and to remain unseen throughout the remainder of the video. How can I keep it from looping over and over throughout the clip?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

User Creating Their Own Video Sequence In Flash

Wondered if anyone knew how to create a movie where:

- the user is given a few movies to choose from, he or she drags the movies (or images representing the movies) of choice to some empty slots in the order he or she wants to view them in.

- Then by clicking a button, flash plays the movies in the order the user chose them in, one after another.

Best Method For Creating A VIDEO File From Flash?
I need to give a Flash movie to someone to write music for it. I know normally you'd load the audio first, and then create the Flash afterwards, but the animation is already made and we need to sync music to it. Anyway, we need to pass it along in a video format so he can load up the file and write music to match it with his own software.

So what's the best way to turn a Flash movie into a video clip without altering the framerate or otherwise screwing it up much?

Flash Viablity For Creating Clips With Video.
I am new to flash, i dont really know anything about it other than i have seen quite a few flash animations.
I am wanting to make a film clip using similar sorts of animations, but including video.

My question is: Is it possible/viable to use flash to create things like film clips (to eventually be exported onto video/DVD) showing BOTH art and video (sometimes in the same scenes)....

My reason for being interested in flash is because i assume it would be easier than something like 3dstudio max.

Creating An Online Flash Video Editor
Hi,

I'm a complete newbie with Flash. I'm wondering if it is possible to create a Flash player that includes video editing features (such as the ability to mark in/out points, etc). The editing wouldn't actually be done by the player/editor, the in/out points would be written to a text file for use in a "real" video editing package. Is this something a custom Flash player could do? If so, how would one go about doing that (i.e. tools needed to create custom flash player features)? Does anyone know if this already exists?

Problem Creating Shortcuts In Flash Video Toolbar

Creating A Dynamic Playlist For Streaming Flash Video
Hello,

I have been trying the tutorial given by Lisa Larson in order to create a dynamic playlist for streaming Flash video files. I have realized some of the FLV files that I have downloaded from internet donâ€™t show in the thumbPlayList and cannot be played. But once I convert them back to WMV and the use the Flash 8 Video Decoder to convert them to FLV file everything works fine.

Any idea or suggestion why there is such a problem?

Creating A Dynamic Playlist For Streaming Flash Video Article...
Some of you might be familiar with this tutorial. It is here:

I loaded this and set everything up correctly, but there is a problem. The videos and thumbnails come up.. things work great initially, but after a few clicks, the "stop" button on the video controls will start flashing on and off on a video... either that or a video will play the first frame or two and then stop. After this happens, you cannot get any videos to play.

I would appreciate if one of you who knows alot about Flash could download this tutorial and take a look. The only thing I found was a descrepency in the tutorial here:

"Creates the reset variable and initially sets its value to true. This variable will be used in the ns.play method three lines below. This causes the existing NetStream instance to be flushed, stopping any video currently being played and immediately playing the newly selected video. The reset variable is then set to false for the rest of the files in the playlist."

The reset variable appears to be doing nothing in the Videosource AS code. There is no ns.play either. The only thing I could think of is that the connections aren't getting flushed and the player just gets screwed up after a certain amount of clicking on the videos in the listbox. It looks like there is missing code?

Any idea? Anyone know how to fix this?

Instead, on each row of the list it says " type function". The list is populated with data b/c i can navigate it and select a video to watch, just the thumbs are missin.

Any ideas how I can get my jpg thumbs to appear?

I am scripting a video player and one of its functionalities is to be able to have a playlist that can be arranged by the user in any order user like. For Example, if there are lets say 5 videos within the playlist:

SONG 1
SONG 2
SONG 3
SONG 4
SONG 5

User can then change the order of the videos by clicking on any video and dragging it up or down just like windows mediaplayer and the player should play the videos in such order.

So far, I have been able to use the list component but am not sure if it will allow the dragging.

I would highly appreciate it if you guys can suggest what should I do to handle this functionality.

hi, anyone tried the tutorial: creating a dynamic playlist for streaming flash video?

i follow the instruction exactly as stated in the tutorial and test the fla file, it worked perfectly well when i open the swf using the macromedia flash 8. Everything look fine. Nothing is changed except the url is changed to "rtmp://localhost/videosource" in the xml file.

after i publish the file using the setting: access network only, i try to open the swf and html file from the folder, the thumbnail did not appear and there is no way i can click on any videos. What i see is only the list, and there is no response from the flash media server 2. All the files is in the same folder. Anyone please help with this problem???? thanks

Hi there, I am creating a website and I want to have a tv page were It would have a swf in it to interact with... and inside of the flash document, I import the quicktime video(now, it does have sound), and place it where I want it to be, the video is a flv because that's what happens when you import a video in flash. The preview works loccally but when I put it online it doesn't even show the video! I do change the url path in the components window in flash so the path should be relative, I don't know any way to embed this video where I want it and have sound and also be able to pause,play,stop and scan/scroll with this video?
Also fyi, I imorted the video using the "import form url"(a video that's already on a site) and everything was correct-the path and al- and the damm thing said that it failed to upload the video. I'm using Flash CS3 and the actionscripting 2.0..CAN ANYONE HELP! If you know a eas way to do what I want , I'm all ears.

Creating A Video Gallery
I am creating a video gallery for a website. I am quite new to Flash 8 and I am wondering whether it is possible to do the following:

The file will contain a video player at the top that will play all the video clips. Underneath will be a library that will start off as four thumbnails and their will be an 'Expand All' button. Once clicked, the gallery will expand in flash to show however many thumbnails that are needed, and once you click on the thumbnails the video will load up in the above player.

I have created the library so that it expands and collapses, but I am struggling (have no idea) on how to make the thumbnails link to play the corresponding videos at the top!

Is it possible?

If anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated. I haven't used Flash for a couple of years - now I have to put some of videos on our company's site.

I just needed something quick and easy so I imported my movie to the stage, selected the skin etc., and it saved. My flv is in the 'media' folder of our site. When I go to publish , or export it puts the swf's on my desktop. The swf plays great there, but the second I move them to them into the 'media' folder, the player loads but now there's no movie. WTF is up with that?

Am I missing something? This is one of the big reasons I dropped flash years ago - an incredibly frustrating piece of software.

Creating Video Silhouettes
Quick question:
I need to shoot someone walking, create a vectored silhouette of them and import those frames into Flash. Did a quick, novice test of shooting someone against a white wall, imported into FCP, bumped up the contrast, exported as jpegs, vecorted with Adobe Streamline and imported into Flash.

Does anyone have an easier solution off of the top of their head?

Creating Interactive Video Tours

I was wondering if anyone out there could point me to a good resource for creating virtual tours using HD video or Digital Video footage. I'm envisioning a video player interface that will play video where there are objects in scenes that I can highlight and make clickable. In other words, you may be able to walk through a room, then see an icon over a particular object, and be able to learn more about that object by clicking on it.

Creating A Pause Button. Video.

I am importing my small vids into flash and am still a beginner to flash. All I need is a play and pause button. Eventually i want to get it so it only loads the movie when play is pushed. I am attaching my fla on what I have done so far. It does not have the video in it, I cut that out to conserve on file size.

Help Creating Custom Video Interface
Well, I have looked for a while for tutorials and things of the sort but I can't find any that work as I want them to. They show you what to do and everything but don't actually work when tested.

I am wanting to create a custom video interface for Flash 8 (something like what youtube uses for their videos) but not as complex. Everythign that I have tried thus far has failed.

Could anyone point me in the direction of a tutorial that works or maybe help me out with creating one on my own?

Creating YouTube Like Video Wrapper
here's what I want to do:

Create a video player much like Lee's that has the following characteristics:
- "frontpage" still that when clicked triggers the play event
- link to above still and video in embed code so that the same swf can be used to display numerous different jpg and flv files.
- no xml or other external file control. it has to be in the embed code to work in a blogging context.

The whole idea is to be able to embed a customized player in blogging software without having to use YouTube or similar services.

I think this can be done with flashVars or something like that but I'm sketchy on the details. If anyone has any ideas it would be a great help 'cause YouTube just won't do - I need more control.
