Creating Text File From Flash
I am interested in outputting the variables in my timeline to a text file. I had heard some time ago that there is an easy, "undocumented" way to do that in Flash. Supposedly, what you get is a text file with all your name value pairs, one after the other. It's not pretty - but it works.

Any ideas on how to do this? Does MX provide a better way to do it?

Creating .txt File From Flash Executable
Hi!

I'm trying to develop an app that will allow users to take notes during presentations. I found some interesting solutions to output those notes as a .txt file. But they rely on third parties, such as other script languages (one interesting solution uses JavaScript functions in the HTML code).

Is it possible to make a standalone Flash executable do that? I need a clue. Would it include working with system resources (the app will run on Windows, mainly)? Any hints would be appreciated.

Creating An A Flash File For A SCORM LMS
Hi.

Im am in the process of creating a number of lessons for an elearning course. The course needs to be run in a SCORM-compliant LMS, so lessons need to be SCORM compliant themselves.

This is my first elearning project so im very new to all this SCORM stuff. Ive had a read of their website but wondered if anyone could offer any advice on exactly what I need to do (creating manifest files etc). Are there any decent tutorials out the on converting a course to be SCORM compliant? or does anyone have any sample files that will allow me to pick it up quickly?

I have completed the first lesson, but now want to make it SCORM compliant and use this as a template for the rest of the lessons. One particular problem I would like to overcome is keeping the flash in one entre file, rather than splitting it up into separate files for each page.

Any information or advice anyone could provide would be great.

Flash Error-Creating .swf File
Hey, i have never had a problem with flash until now. I have made .swf's of this file heaps of times before, but for some reason, it will not make any more .swf files.

When i try to create the .swf file, i get this error... Error Creating Flash Movie. There was not enough memory available.

I'm in desperate need of some guidance on how to actually convert an avi file over to a Flash Video (FLV) that I can eventually insert into a Captivate movie. I do have Flash but have no clue where to start (new to Flash personally). Can anyone possibly provide some step by step instructions on how to do this? I do have the AVI file on my hard drive and would really appreciate some step by step instructions.

Since I'm new to Flash and haven't yet received any training, I'm really in the dark.

Creating A .txt File From Flash Using ActionScript.?

I have a swf gallery that I created in flash MX which accesses images in folder using an XML file. This XML file has a header and a footer, and a standard image node for each image where the information of the exact name of each image... ie image01.jpg and the description of it ... and their locations .... is gallery01/image01.jpg etc, where gallery01 would be the folder. Currently all of this information about the images is entered by hand in the XML file and this task starts to become very tedious when there are many images per gallery. What I would like to konw.... and like to do... is create an swf or flash application that would create a the xml file... Ideally I would like the user to have a sort of gui in which each image from a folder to which he or she browses to ... is displayed... one at a time... and with the display of each image ... there is a text field where the user can name and type the description of the image.... and all of this data should somehow be recorded and stored in an XML file.

Now I dont even know if this is possible in Flash or if this was the right forum to post this question in ... but any advise would be much appreciated.

Does anyone have any info re: creating a executable flash player movie, from a swf that is using dynamic data? Of course the portable version would be static from the current data.

example: many of you may have seen the code on the boards for a really nice photoviewer that loaded jpg's externally. I'd like to somehow be able to make a portable CD version of it. Executable if possible?

Best Method For Creating A VIDEO File From Flash?
I need to give a Flash movie to someone to write music for it. I know normally you'd load the audio first, and then create the Flash afterwards, but the animation is already made and we need to sync music to it. Anyway, we need to pass it along in a video format so he can load up the file and write music to match it with his own software.

So what's the best way to turn a Flash movie into a video clip without altering the framerate or otherwise screwing it up much?

Creating A Tiled Background Flash File
I purchased a basic flash XML template and have customised all content and pages to suit as necerssary however the background is a tiled bitmap file, which is great as it resizes to any resolution without pixelating.

I have Adobe Flash CS3 trial, how do I change the bitmap file to that of my own? I cannot see how..

Since I started using CS3 I sometimes get the following error:

Error creating Flash movie file.
Be sure the destination file is not locked or on a locked drive. Also, check that the file name is not too long.

It doesn't happen all the time, and I haven't been able to figure out what causes it. I have been able to confirm that it's not anything to do with locked files/drives, permissions, or file name length.

It happens with files created elsewhere (by other developers) that I've modified, and it happens with files I start from scratch - I can create a new FLA on my desktop and it won't publish.

Sometimes (but not always), publishing to a different directory than the one the FLA is in will work.

This is becoming a big problem. Anybody seen this, or have any ideas?

I'm on OS X 10.4.9, 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro 17", running CS3 Web Premium package.

I have a cartoon to send in to the network today. I'm having an issue I've had before: When I try to Test Scene, Test Movie, Publish or Export a quicktime, I get this alert: Error Creating Flash movie file. Be sure the destination file is not locked or on a locked drive. Also, check that the file name is not too long.
I've gotten this quite a few times before, and the suggested fixes don't work. Usually, I have to copy every frame and paste into a whole new project, which as you probably know, is a bitch.
Any ideas on what may be going on here? I exported a file last night before I shut down and all was well. I tried removing the audio file I added this morning to see if that was the issue, and it wasn't.
Anyone else experience this?

Error Creating Flash Movie File.
OK I have been racking my brain to get this resolved and unfortunately there isn't a lot of info on the web.
Scenario: We are in a shared environment. Central file server (Mac OS X server) over gigabit enet. We open flash files over the network and then we "try" to publish the files back to the same server in which the .fla is stored. (I have read John at Adobe's comments on the practice but this DID work).

So we access the flash file at /Volumes/ServerName/JobFolder/~Flash/ and we "attempt to" publish the .swf to
/Volumes/ServerName/JobFolder/htmlfolder/flash .... this was working previously in flash 6-7 but in 8-cs3 it has stopped working and we are kicking ourselves to get some answers.

When we try to publish we get the following error:
"Error creating Flash movie file.
Be sure the destination is not locked or on a locked drive. Also, check that the file name is not too long."

The publish path is: /Volumes/ServerName/JobFolder/~Flash/fileName.swf

What is going on and is there a solution like there USED** to be??

Creating An Alias Entry Into A Flash File Folder
I'm sure there is a simple solution to this. I have been developing flash animations for my physiology lectures that I have been putting on-line for my students. I use a lot of imported flv files of video clips and animations. On the university website I just create a link to the folder containing the lectures and everything works fine.

However, I have had a request for a CD of the lectures. The problem is that the HTML and swf file must be in the same folder as the flv files for them to load correctly. This creates a mess for the user when searching for the swf or html file to load. I have tried creating an alias of the swf and html file and placing this outside the folder that contains all the files. I burned the CD and everything worked fine on a Mac but not on a PC. There has to be a simple way of placing the swf or html files outside the folder containing all the flv files. I am using Flash professional 8.

Creating A .txt File
I'm making a flash menu and I would like it to create a .txt file on the viewers computer. So whoever goes to the page and loads the menu, the menu creates a .txt file on their computer that stores their own personal variables. They will be able to customize the menu (music on/off, color scheme, etc.). The menu will store the name they register as and recognize the particular user and call them by name. I want the menu to change the variables in the .txt file on that particular computer whenever they change their menu preferences. Is this how things are usually done? Could someone help me with this plz.

They r saying “Open the FLA file, then export it as a SWT by choosing File > Export Movie and saving as a Generator Template file type. It's a good idea to use the same name for both files, for example, myButton.fla and myButton.swt”

I didn’t find any option like Generator Template file in flash mx.

But how do I make an admin site where I MAKE the xml file? It's not a big use, if my customer can't create an xml file without being forced into comprehensing the code?

I apologize, I forgot to use the radio buttons. I have flash MX 2004

So I have a very basic flash movie. It consists of a scrolling background with movie clips on top of it. When i try to export it as an avi, the movie clips appear as a static image with only the first frame showing. Is there a way that I can create an avi from what the .fla file looks like? THanks

Creating SWF File
Hello, i am using Flash8 with Mac OS X.10.4 previously when i wanted to create an SWF file in Flash Mx i just hit the Command/Return keys and the SWF files appeared.
When i do this in Flash8 the SWF file appears with all the animation , but when i close the .fla file and the .swf file i was working on and try to open the .swf file using flashplayer all i get is a blank swf box, sometimes it has only 1 or two elements of my origional .fla work.
Any ideas what is wrong?

Exporting/Creating A File From An Swf
I am working on a system in which people can use to customize a file. Once they have a dragged and dropped objects onto a template and are done, I need to have a "submit" that will capture what they have built and actually make a file which would be emailed to someone. If it could write a PDF, JPG or
SWf that would be great, but an AI would even better (I don't think this is possbile though...). Either way, it basically needs to save the user's creation and actually make a file of what they have done. I know that this is probably extensive, but I'm not sure how to go about it.... any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The most important thing is that I capture the dimensions and/or properties of the objects once they have been placed, any clues on how to go about this using variables...
