Do You Know Of Any Books?
Hi ppl,
Does anyone know of a book which might help me create a penalty soccer game? Things covered might be keeper ai, depth, gravity and so on. I've bought flash games demystified and that is good but nothing to cover penalty games in depth!!!! If you could point me in the right direction I would be grateful.

i know flash pretty well, i learned it back in 4.0 and am only just revisiting it, i still remember everything i learned then
but the one thing i'm missing out on is actionscript, i can only do the simplest things, meaning stop and goto i can use
can anyone recommend some books that are any good? (ie. you've used it and can vouche for its greatness)

I'm an old Flash 5 GUI user that's trying to take the leap into MX and actionscripting. Does anyone have any suggestions on books I should pick up? I've always been rather fond of the "Bible" series, and will probably start there, but I was hoping someone could recommend some others.

Ive heard there are some good book out there that teach action scripting. I was wondering if anyone knew the name of some of them and where I could get them. I have no knowledge of programming of any sort other than basic HTML. I'm looking for books that will teach the very basics and beyond.
Also, i'm having a little trouble in Flash using the gradient tool. It appears, from what ive seen, you can only have a single type of gradient, left to right. Is there any way to change your gradient to make it up/down, or circular, or diagonal etc.. Would be nice if it was like in photoshop where you can just drag in the direction you want your gradient to go. heh

I have been using the Flash timeline, patching things together to make things work and after my last project I have decided I am done doing most of my work in the main timeline. I am considering some book purchases and I have a couple here I have my eye on:
"Essential Actionscript 2.0", by Colin Moock.
"Object-Oriented Programming with ActionScript 2.0", by Jeff Tapper.
"Flash MX 2004 Games Most Wanted", by Kristian Besley.
I think I'll definitely buy the third, but I don't know whether to buy Jeff Tapper's book, Colin Moock's book, or to buy them both... although I suspect they'll cover some of the same ground. then again, maybe they'll hand-in-hand quite well. Hmmm... can't decide.. need help!

Ok... I have broken down and desided that I need to buy some books to really get the most out of Flash... I have bought the following books and rated them from those thinking about buying as well... Can anyone else recommend a good book to learn from or one that really related the information well?

I have always loved Sam's Teach Yourself books... very easy to get your
head around. Plenty of pictures and examples... Highly recommend it.
Foundation PHP 5 for Flash ~~> 4 out of 5 Stars...
This is an awesome book for those looking to link up Flash and Php. its only a little light on visual examples, so if you are a visual learner (like me) you may find this book a little difficult in places. But the amount of information is staggering. I have only just scratched the surface and I am already feeling more confident about scripting. Highly recommend it.

I'm really keen to learn actionscript, I have a basic understanding of scripting 'n would really like to further my knowledge...

The main purpose for my learning is so I can create more dynamic animations & effects (backend stuff will come later) so the book needs to be focused on animation & motion...

Actionscript Books?
I'm looking for someone to recommend to the best books they can think of for learning actionscripting. I am a person who has little to no experience with programming, but consider myself fairly intelligent and able to comprehend most things fairly easily.
But, actionscripting is kicking my ass. lol.
SO...if anyone could recommend some books for me...the most comprehensive...or the easiest to follow...I want to finish it feeling as though I'm got a good handle on the understanding of the language, be able to do fancy schmancy stuff with it, but still be able to use it as a reference later.

hey all, I've been working as a straight designer for a little while, mostly graphics actually just starting to really get into flash...anyhow, I was wondering what the best book to learn actionscripting would be...I know some basics and I've got a pretty good understanding of C++ and some int. lvl java...so what would I want to look into to learn the real power of flash? I've seen the 5 books, but with the changes in MX I'd rather start there.
