Flash :: Dotted Lines Instead Of Arrows

Animated Dashed/dotted Lines
I'm looking for a way to have a rectangle surrounded by either dotted or dashed lines that seem to move around the rectangle, nothing fancy. I'm looking for an example or instructions on how to do something like this.

Motion Tweens Turning Into Dotted Lines...
K, so I made my first banner, with fading in and out text.

But at one point I wanted a book cover to come from tiny to large, like a zooming in effect. So I made the book cover into a movie clip, and made it tiny with the free-transform tool, and then a few frames later I made it bigger, and then disappear as if it zoomed right past our field of vision.

But when I tried to put a motion 'tween the small and the large book, it just gave me a dashed line instead of the arrow, and I can't for the life of me figure out why it won't work.

Dotted Lines Outlining A Shape Via Actionscript?
Hey all, I'm building a site whose flat, vector shapes need an outline of a dotted line.

The majority of these shapes are simply rectangles with rounded corners. All are created dynamically.

I could do each shape's lines by hand and attach them, but I'd much rather use a script. Anyone have any suggestions? I could use a good jump-start on tackling this.

I've Got Dotted Lines Round My Flash Objects
Hello - if anyone could help me with something, I'd be eternally grateful!

I'm building a website with Dreamweaver, and it's got several flash elements, like buttons and pictures.

When I preview the site on my BT browser, everything looks great - but when I preview it on my IE browser, it's a mess.

When I hover over a flash element, a box of dotted lines appears around the flash object, and the words "click to activate and use the control" appear.

When I then click on the object, the box disappears, and I can then use the buttons etc.

My dreamweaver site is made with tables. The dotted-line box surrounds the CELL that the flash object is in, rather than the flash object itself.

I've no idea what this is, or why it only happens in my IE browser and not my BT one. If anyone can give me some pointers, I'd be very grateful. At this rate, I'm going to be at my PC all Christmas Day!

Reasons For A Tween Not Working (dotted Lines)
Hello,
I have been having trouble with tweens and have never discovered why they sometimes don't work. I have one single object, and I create a keyframe at frame 1, and then at frame 15. At 15, I scale the object some, then I create a tween for the frames in between. Sometimes, on the timeline, I see the dotted line in those frames, and the tween does not work (It jumps from its original size to the new size between the second-to-last and last frame.

I'd like to figure this problem out completely rather than just experimenting each time until I get it right. Does anyone understand why the tween won't work?

My Buttons Wont Work. = Dotted Lines Around My Objects
So I have been working with flash for the past few months and I thought that I knew how to make buttons correctly but a couple days ago I was working on a movie things became strange. The first thing that happened was that everything that I made (text, burrons, graphics etc.) had a white dotted line around it. I thought that this was strange but hoped it wouldn't be anything to worry about. But then something even strager happened.
As I made buttons on my scenes I put the grapgics in order and then made the "his" portion for the button. But once I tested by scene the only place that my mouse could "hit" the button was where the hit portion was and my button graphic wasn't. So if my button was a square and my hit area was a larger square nothing would happen when I scrolled over the graphic, but the area outside it would be okay. This really seems strange to me. Does anyone know what I might do about these dotted lines and my faulty buttons

Dotted Lines Around Text Box / Button / Movie Clips?
Can someone tell me what the dotted lines are on these movie clips?

The 3 words in the screen shots are movie clips w/ buttons inside. The buttons have actionscript code added to enable the words to be dragged and dropped on the stage.

The drag and drop isn't working. After checking the file over and over, I think the dotted lines have something to do w/ the drag and drop not working.

Any ideas what the problem is or maybe just where those dotted lines come from?

Dotted Border
hello,
i have currently created a border using dots, about 4 rows (created using the Grid 3 Texture in FW) going around my window. My content will end up going in here.

When I export this movie using Flash Player 7, everything looks OK but anything lower than that, the dots get a little distorted. Kind of similar to the minimal font type blur if not done right. Would anyone know anything about this?

Dotted Line In AS 3.0
How do I make a line dotted programatically? A line can be made dotted if drawn in the IDE, so it's got to be possible, but there doesn't seem to be anything in the Graphics (lineStyle) class to allow for this.

Animating A Dotted Line?
Hi,

I have this 'problem',

I would like to animate a dotted line (motion tween). The idea is that it should start with just one dot on frame 1, and 200 dots on frame 10 (or any other number).

The problem is, the motion tween isn't working as long as the line is not a movieclip. When I change the line into a movieclip, it will only animate when I scale the line (the line isn't balanced anymore, the dots are huge!) Is there a way to solve this problem?

Click On The Dotted Line
Basically my problem is with those little white dotted lines that appear in my flash movies in html pages. I am using a big swf that covers the whole html page and links to other html pages with swfs in them and that is basically the whole website. My buttons are inside the swfs. The problem is that those dotted lines appear with every page change and say "click here to activate this control" and you have to click inside the page before the buttons will work. I don't know what it is but I want it to go away. Is there any way to turn it off? I need the html holder rather than just loading movies to levels in the same movie because it is a portfolio site and three of my swfs need to be really long and scroll but the others are short and so I'm using different document sizes with the different movies which means I need the html wrappers. Is there any way to get those dotted lines and the need to "click here" before my buttons will work to go away? Thanks.

Strange Dotted Line....

Flash Vs PS - The Dotted Line
Curious to know which tool is better for creating dotted lines in flash? Photoshop or Flash? i've been trying to use flash's 'dotted' line with about a pixel's width and it seemingly always tends to blur, no matter where it is located.

How Would One Go About Creating A Moving Dotted Line?
I am trying to create an animation of a coach drawing up his football strategy on a chalkboard. An example is like below

My main barrier is figuring out how to animate a moving dotted line without doing frame-by-frame method.

Shape tweening seems to just mess it up with
1st Frame: Original dotted line
Mid Frames: Just one solid time
Final Frame: Final length in dotted line

If I animate it straight its alright. But in curves the line will not follow the path I would give it.

An example of what Ive achieved so far in trying this is here

Dotted Box When I Click Into Symbol? Using Vista
I have windows Vista and when i open flash and click on a symbol a dotted box line zooms in and it takes forever....I figured out how to get rid of this by going into flash properties, compatibility, and checking off disable visual themes....I just reformatted my computer and had to reinstall flash and I can NOT for the life of me figure out how to get rid of the dotted box again...because what i thought i did last time to fix it, is not working!!

Movie Clip Dotted Line Box
When you double click a movie clip to edit it in place, a dotted-line box starts from the movie clips general middle area and extends to the full frame of content in a split second, and then you are in the editor window. The dotted-line box is pretty useless, and I've hardly ever even noticed it was there until today. I've got a new laptop (Vista) and I'm just starting to animate in Flash, when that dotted line box shows up, but it's going very slow and sketchy. It's actually taking about 2 seconds just to extend out to the content frame. When I click on Scene 1 to get out of editing the movie clip, the dotted line box shrinks back at the same slow pace.

It's pretty strange. And with all the movie clip editing I do, it's going to slow down my production rate significantly. I saw at least 2 people who had this problem when I searched the forums, but their problem wasn't solved.

Axis-Labelrenderer Labels Dotted?
hi,
i have a problem with my labelRenderer for my CategoryAxis-Axisrenderer...the axis(renderer) has the following properties:

this.categoryAxis.dataProvider = hAxisData; (the values displayed on the axis)
this.axisRenderer.setStyle("canStagger",false);
this.axisRenderer.setStyle("canDropLabels",false);
the problem is, that the axisrenderer is rotation the labels. i want the labels to have a dotted ending when getting to big.
so what i need, is the width of the categoryaxis, then i can devide the width by the number of axis labels, and finally fit the width of every single label ....
when i debug the labelrenderer and i go to parent, i have the CategoryAxis ... but non of the width values fits to the actual width that the axis is schown by !?!?
the widths that i get, are alway +- 20-80 px !? is there a good way to find the width, or anotherway to make the labels dottet?
The most helpfull thing to know, would be the length of the axis segment reserved for each axis label!!

is there any way of finding out how many characters will fit in a dynamic textfield?

I have a textfield that is dynamically loaded with text. Sometimes the text is long and i need scroll buttons, but when the text is short i would like not display the scroll buttons.

How can i figure out if text is short enough not to display the scroll buttons?

oh..to make it even more complicated; the font of the text is not always the same. I use textformatting to display header-like lines in the textfield.

Dotted Line Around My Text, And Bad Font Quality
Okay, I'll start from the beginning;

->I downloaded a new font from 1001fonts.com, and wrote text in Flash MX.
->I made a tween from the sybmolized text from Alpha=0, to Alpha=100, to create a simple fade in-fade out effect.

I did this with some other text symbols, and the tweens look fine from the stage, but when I play my scene on the stage, I see white, dotted lines around each text rectangle. Also, when I test the .swf, there is no tween, and the font looks like non-vector'd crap.

I don't know what to do! My problems then are,
1) a dotted line around text
2) horrible font graphic when I test the movie

Any help would be gladly appreciated!

Gray, Dotted Line Around SWF When Clicked In Firefox?
I've tried to incorporate Flash seamlessly into a website and the results are pretty clean, but when people actually click a button on the SWF, a grey dotted line appears around the sides of the Flash.

This is in Firefox 3 only, but that's what the client uses.

Anyone seen this or know how to get rid of it?

Dotted Frame Appears Around Flash Site
Hey guys, I'm praying this is an obvious problem and I'm just a moron but I haven't had any luck googling it.

I've been making updates on this site ( http://www.eddiecatz.co.uk ) but I've just had a call from client saying that a dotted frame border appears around the content when she scrolls her mouse over it. I haven't seen this til now because I work on a Mac but since checking it on a PC I've seen what she's talking about.

Has anybody had an issue like this before and do you know how I can fix it?

Dotted Boxes When Buttons Are At Rest... Affecting My Tweening?
Hey all, got something I hope you guys can help me with.

I embedded "movie clip A" into "movie clip 1" and it worked fine. Then when I tried to embed "movie clip B" into another part of "movie clip 1" it played fine in the movie editor and i noticed dotted boxes around each button (see attached jpg screenshot). Then when I test the whole movie the tweening on "movie clip B" doesn't work, it looks awful. I compared the two movie clips closely and the only thing that makes them different is the dotted lines around the buttons while they're at rest (both on the main stage and the movie editor). Any clues about why this is happening? Is there something I'm missing? Some rule about multiple embedded movie clips? When I place "movie clip A" on the same frame as "movie clip B" it works, so I know it has to be something wrong with "movie clip B", I just don't know what. I made it the same way I made "movie clip A" and I've tried re-making it from scratch several times with the same result. If someone can explain why the dotted boxes are showing I'm positive it would give me a clue as to how to fix it.

Any leads or ideas would be appreciated. I can email the SWF or FLA file on request, if needed.

Bad Images - Straight Lines Are Jagged Lines - Why?
Hello -

Wondering if anyone had a solution --- I have some images for a portfolio - almost all of them have a diagonal line that's supposed to look straight, and in flash it's looking jagged and wiggly.

I began with 300 dpi images - saved them to the proper size, no compression, saved PNG's, then imported to Flash with lossless (jpg,png) setting, created Graphic Symbol with all graphic information in the upper left quadrant, and it is in an even space on the stage (no 113.4, but 113.0)....

I did a lot of research to make sure I got the best quality images & have taken all of these steps and it's still coming out crappy....

Any ideas? Much appreciated...

Kind of cool looking a guess, just a few things i couldn't get a handle on.. I remember being able to assing the original movie clip it's own properties, like this_alpha = 0; so it's different than all the duplications, but that doesn't seem to work now.. and it's not letting me hittest the duplicated movie clips either. Anyways, it still looks cool.

Pointing Arrows
How can you program an object (ie an arrow) to point at something no matter where the screen moves. I want the arrow to swivel to show the player where to go to get to the end but it can't be a simple 8-directional arrow, it has to move constantly around the center of the character mc. Sorry if this is hard to understand because I am not very good at expressing just what it is that I want but I need something like the arrow that points to the planet in this game http://www.miniclip.com/gravity.htm which is an awesome game, btw. Appearing Arrows
need some help with good old flash, i have a picture in flash and i want to explain the different parts of it.

Up Down Arrows In Web Browser
Hello All,

Been searching forums with little luck. I am writing a website in flash 8 and wanted to have it so that when the swf is viewed in a web browser, that the up/down arrows work like they do with html or other web pages, moving the content up and down. I know that there's something about capturing keypresses, but don't exactly how I'd go about it. Any help would be great appreciated.
