Flash :: Dynamic Text Is Ugly

Ugly Dynamic Text Fonts
Relatively new Flash MX 2004 user. Please look at the
link to my swf.

Trying to pass the Flash banner text from action script to the dynamic text box on the right, and I can't seem to get this font clear (like with static text). I've tried using a font symbol from the library, and I've specified the ranges for the font outlines. As it stands, it looks very ugly.

Is there any way I can pull this off, or does this happen whenever you embed font outlines (required to do an alpha fade on the text)? Works fine when I don't embed font outlines, but of course I have to scrap the alpha fade. Thanks.

Dynamic Text Looks Ugly Help Making It Look Normal....
my dynamic text looks ugly! it's not like the usual anti-aliased flash-style text in a static text block. but i need to use a dynamic textblock to provide data from actionscript. is there any way to make the text look less ugly... perhaps even normal?

Ugly Text In XP
When black text appears on a gray background I get ugly text with white garbage all around the text. I have turned off Clear Type in XP and still get this ugly antialiasing. I noticed this in the extreme while using this forum (a great help BTW). See the ugly text in the attached screenshot. How can I get simply black text on gray withouth the messy edges in XP. Yes, I know this is likely a Windows XP problem - I'm just hopint someone might know how to fix this. Thanks!

Text Input Component UGLY
Q1- Any advice you could give me so that I can deal with changing the height of Flash text input component?

[F8] Ugly Glow Around Text Fields
I have a contact form that is working fine.

But I have a design issue.

When you press tab to go through the test fields, you get this ugly green glow. It even comes up on my error text fields.

How do I get rid of this?

Ugly Text When Published W/ Flash 8
My static text boxes look clean and crisp when I publish for FP 7 or earlier, publishing for 8 however and the text is blurry and almost unreadable. Any idea what's causing this?

Ugly Animated Png
Hello,
When I animate(motion tween)a png image in a layer with a darker background layer I can see the ghost of the picture. If it is a png with a square 100X100 I see the image and a 100X100 faint white ghost. I have changed the image properties ie turn off and on smoothing, interlace, lossless... but I still see the ghost box. Something I need to do in Photoshop, Fireworks? THANKS

HELP Ugly Crash Bug
I am runnign Flash on Windows 2000 and I keep having a very ugly problem. Flash keeps crashing! Which by now I have learn to live with, every time I try to work with some complicated XML connections. My problem is, and this is really nasty, when I reopen the fla file. It is not the version that I saved last, but an earlier version.
I know it sounds funny but by now I am pressing ctrl-S before I test any movie or open any panel and flash is deffinitely not opening my last saved version.
Does any one knows if flash works with some kind of temporary files that may somehow be currupted on my machine?

IE On MAC Popup UGLY
Hi all,

Quick question: I'm popping a popUp from my flash movie, using the old java script (one word) typical commands.

My problem is that in IE on a Mac, none of the other settings are working: i'm stuck with all the crap I don't want, like scroll bars, address bars, status bars, etc... It looks just beautiful on Safari, but not on IE.

Anyone found any workarounds?

Printouts On Mac Look Ugly
Hi,

I made a dynamic product list which consists of dynamically created MCs with some text and a product image inside.
When I printout the list using the printjob class everything looks great on a PC but if I print it out from a MAC (Firefox or Opera) the texts and images look ugly and can hardly be read. I tried to add the pages as bitmaps or as vectors to the printjob without a change in the printout quality.
Does anyone has an idea what else I could do to improve the printout quality on the MAC? Any suggestion is highly welcome.

Getting Rid Of Ugly Frame In IE
Does anyone know how to get rid of the pesky, ugly frame that surrounds SWFs in Internet Explorer? I see that others have been able to deactivate it, but this function does not appear to be part of the standard FLASH menu items, ActionScript or publish preferences. Ugly Shapes
Hey all,
I am having a big problem with anti-aliasing (I think??!!).
I am drawing rectangles in Flash, with a corner radius of "5". My problem now arises when I test the movie in Flash, the corners look horrible and blurry. They look even worse if I test the movie in a broswer (IE6). I have this problem with a lot of shapes in Flash, What needs to be done to fix this??

URGENT Ugly Box Appears

Get Rid Of The Ugly TextArea Border...

I unsuccessfully tried several ways (from setStyle to using the RectBorder class) to get rid of the ugly gray border which appears in the TextArea component.

Eeeewwww Ugly Fonts
Ugh, why do my fonts look so forkin' ugly!?! http://cg.psdsliced.com/test1/ (in the news box)

They're all blurred and jaggy and ugly. This is with Verdana set to 9 with Anti-alias set to Readibility (in flash8) with Auto Kern on.

I've read Kirupa's Legible Font tutorial and all my clips are on 0,0xy positions and have no decimal sizes so I wanna know why the heck the text loooks so damn ugly, I thought Macromedia would've fixed this issue by now.

That Ugly Cursor In The SWF File
When I test a movie, the cursor turns to the common hand seen on the web, but when I open the actual swf file, its that cheesy looking hand....is there any way to change it to the universal hand pointer, so it doesnt look goofy when I distribute the movie as a swf file on a cd?

Ugly Border Appears...
Hi all,

I think there is any easy way to fix this problem.

Just don't know how??

My flash rectangular file contains a series of oval buttons going around in a circle and they are active links to HTML offshoot pages.

When you place your mouse pointer over the rectange in IE a gray dotted border appears similar to when you click on a linked image in IE.

This doesn't happen in Safari. Any suggestions on this one?

No Ugly Stuff In My Flash App

Since I'm no prog/coder, I tried to use Flash to make lil desktop program. Everything works just fine but I'd like to get rid of the menu and if its possible the title bar too (and the _ X top-right icons in the window...) In fact, I'd like to see only my flash stuff... u know, like windows media player or msn live "no menu bar" stuff....

16 Bit Colors Make PNG Transparency Ugly
I got a real problem.
My desktop is using 32 bit color depth. Therefore everything in flash and photoshop is seen in 32 bit colors.

Lately I discovered a weird difference when I saw my flash production on a other computer which displayed 16 bit colors. Every imported .png file differed in color with the html displayed background. And even worse you could see the transparent parts of the png images in a pale gray color but still transparent.

What could be wrong with my use of color or the way in exporting things? Really don't know please help me,

Ugly White Box Appears On Load
In the second or two before my flash page appears with normal preloader etc, the size of the flash element is always shown a s a big white box over the surrounding black page...my background color is set to black on both the flash and html page containing it and I try to leave first frame clear of elements that would slow load...is there an easy fix for this unsightly hiccup to my intro?

Ugly Alias In Loaded Images
Hi!

I'm loading a jpeg into a previously skewed movieclip with the loadMovie method. Unfortunately the result is a very ugly aliased image as consequence of skewing the container movieclip.

If I import the image into the stage, set the skew as used in the movieclip, it works well as the "Alow smoothing" is enabled.

Is there any way to set the anti-aliasing of the image with actionscript?

BTW, the movie clip "Quality" is already set to high and the project is a dynamic thumbnail gallery, so i can't set one by one.

You're Ugly And Your Mama Dresses Me Funny
So I've been staring at this screen for the past two hours. As red-eyed, bleary-eyed, and bug-eyed as I am I have not found the answer to this mundane question. Hopefully, through my clever trick of posting a subject that has absolutely nothing to do with my question, I can find the answer I'm looking for and hopefully give you a laugh in the meantime.

I am building a game of quarters(the drinking game) from a first-person perspective. When a user clicks the mouse the quarter is put into the users hand. The user must bring the mouse back and then "throw" the mouse forward and release the button. I need the hand image to gently scale and rotate based on the mouse's location within the bounding box.

If you're not sure what quarters is just think about the game Duck Hunt but for a computer. The mouse cursor is your crosshairs and you can see your gun from behind. As you move the cursor around the screen, the gun will rotate and scale a little bit to give it some perspective.

If anyone can help me with the answer to this or send me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. And by the way, what do you do when an epileptic has a seizure in the bathroom? You throw in a load of laundry.

Hi, I noticed that JPEGS looks really ugly unless I use them in the original size I imported them. In other words lets say I have a jpeg, and I want to shrink it to 89% from 100% just so it fits something better.

If you go to "contacto" (upper right menu) you find a form and when you try to go from a field to another with the "Tab" key a white box appear in the upper left corner of the form. I have no idea on how to solve this ugly behaviour.

Ugly Or No Fonts Showing In IE (Nightmare Difference Btwn Mac & Pc)
Hi,

I am using an intel mac, and usually check my sites on both mac & pc platforms (using parallel).

My recent issues are none of the text showed up (in my SWF) when viewing the site in internet explorer on the PC (firefox PC was fine and all mac browsers were fine). The font was Time New Roman, and after a long time i discovered if i changed the font to 'use device fonts' - it would show in the PC. However, doing so renders a really ugly computer like rendition of Times New Roman on the PC, and so then i tried breaking all the text apart to create an image of the text, but once the final letters broke apart, the font seemed to disappear in my FLA, so i couldn't do that.

This is soo frustrating. I thought using flash i overcame the issue of stuff (& font) looking different between mac & pc.
I obviously want the text in my swf to look the same across platform. How can i achieve this? I don't recall having these problems when i was using MX2004.
Does this have something to do with it?

Dispatch Event Problem, I Need To Improve My Ugly Solution
Hi. I'm trying painfully to build a website with as3, and I will...but the way I'm doing this it's pretty ugly, and I suspect all the wonderfull capabilities of as3 are being wasted by my method...So, here is the problem, if someone could bring some light to my code, I'd really appreciate it:
1) First, a swf, with a Document class, wich loads another swf into the first one, with all the assets. Cool, works fine, it loads. Then I acces some of those assets that are in the library, and create instances with addChild. Awesome, it works.
2)One of those assets has a movieclip inside, wich is linked to an external class. This movieclip has other movieclips on his timeline. The external class does some stuff about those little instances, like scaling them, controling the alpha, and...calling an external class, that controls a transition. For that, I create an instance of that class:
transicion = new Transicion1();
transicion.agregarClip(h1,0.1);
transicion.agregarClip(h2,0.2);
etc....
You know, I add parameters to a function inside that last class I mentioned, so there could be a transition, affecting the little movieclips. It works....I feel like Einstein.

3)THE PROBLEM! Ok, now I don't feel so smart . When the incredible transition from the last class ends, I need to tell the Document class: "ey, I'm finished, now you should deal with this string, I don't now what it is, it's a string..." (for example "part2"). And the Document class should recieve it, and add and instance of other movieclip (for example, an instance of part2, wich is a movieclip on the library).
My solution: on the Document class, I've placed an enterframe....

I'm succesful on tracing the string, and I'm sure I could manage a way to add more stuff from the loaded swf with this method. But, I think the solution for this has to do with events....The only problem is that the class wich sends the string to the document class is so far away from it...I can't figure out a way to do this with custom events.
IS THERE A WAY I CAN USE EVENTS HERE?

[URGENT] How To Prevent Ugly Jittering In Raster (bitmap) Graphics?
Hi, guys.
In my current Flash animation, I’m using pixel-pushed fonts and other aliased graphical elements (pixel art sort of thing) that require to be lossless and without smoothing. The problem is that everything shows great while working with the file, but when the animation is previewed or exported, I get extremely annoying jittering artifacts. Is there a way to combat this? Please hear my cry for help.

Jumping To Areas Of Dynamic Text, Printing Dynamic Text
hello,

I have a movie clip that loads a .txt file into a dynamic text field. Due to the amount of content in the file a scroller bar is needed in order to view all of it. I want to create buttons that jump to different areas of the dynamic text for easier navigation so the user can go directly to various sections instead of having to use the scroller all the time. What kind of coding would I need to put on the buttons and within the .txt file at the areas I want to jump to?
Also, I would like to give the user the option to print everything within the dynamic text field only, not the surrounding elements in my movie clip. Is that possible?
