Easy Question: Linked Text With Rollover Effect
Hi there!

I have some text in a static text box connected to a scroller.

I just want some of the text to be a link to a website that opens in a new window. OK ... easy.

But how do I give that text a "rollover" effect so the user knows it's a link? I just want the text to change color when the user rolls over it.

Stationary Text Field Linked To Rollover On Scroll Bar Buttons
Hello everyone,
I'm new to flash, and I started using MX about a month ago. I'm trying to create a scrollable bar of buttons, that moves due to mouse position. I accomplished that, but what I need now is a text description that comes up in a stationary place as you rollover each button.
I tried this in several different ways but none of them work without it moving along with the scrolling buttons. I have the fla, and an example swf up on my idisk. I would apprecite any comments or help. Thanks.

Rollover Help This Should Be So Easy...
Hey-i'm kinda new to all this. I just want my round button to have a sunburst kind of shape spinning around it slowly when the mouse is over it and to stop when u roll off of it. i have made the spinning sunburst a movie clip and the logo a button. I try to paste the spinning suburst version of the logo into the "over" frame of the logo button, while the up, down, and hit stages remain the same. When i export the movie to try out my button, on rollover, it only plays the first frame of my movie clip spin. why isn't it spinning? help!

This should be simple.

I want a mc to play in a specified loaction upon rollover.

I can accomplish this by imbedding the mc in the button (over frame), but I want to have 4 buttons (same symbol assigning different instance names) and have a different mc play when each one is rolled over.

I can't seem to get it to work.

Easy Rollover Question...
ok, this is definately a newbie question... how do I put an animation in the rollover state and of a button and have the ENTIRE animation play (even if the mouse is taken off the button)? I've been able to get something to play on the rollover state, but as soon as the mouse is taken off the movie stops abruptly. Any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

Linked Flash Files With Linked Sounds.
First of all heres my project:

The big black smudges are buttons, so click the one to the right and the page should load.
My lil problem is that due to other effects I wanted to add I have sound linked within each of these seperate pages.
Each page has several panels, each of which plays a sound when the mouse rolls over it. This sound is played via a:

snd1.attachSound("the_sounds_name");
SO each of these pages works fine by itself.
BUt I have made a "loader.swf" page where by clicking on buttons advances them timeline to another page that is loaded into an empty movie clip ("container") using:
container.loadMovie("page3.swf");
SO now when I load this way, the sounds do not play.
Is there anyway around this besides going into each seperate panel movieclip and adding it to their timelines?

Rollover Button Problem (easy ?)
hi all,

having a small problem on my rollovers. Basically doing a US map that changes color on rollover. Problem is there's an overlapping thing that we cant figure out why. If you try to rollover to nevada, from california, nevada starts to turn to black even if your mouse isnt yet exactly within nevada, the mouse pointer is still located at california. Im not sure if im making sense, but you can see from the attached fla file here.

any suggestions will be highly, highly highly appreciated!

A Very Easy Question Of Rollover/out Mc Control

i have to edit my question. i finally found 2 threads about this subject - and looks like the thing i thought would be really simple and easy is actually all but! shows how little i know, doesn't it.

still - if anyone has come up with a solution, would you please let me know? here comes: i've managed to produce a dropdown menu. works ok. it's an mc that i control with on rollover/rollout/press commands.
question: what would be the AS line to tell the mc_menu to move to a certain frame in timeline if no mouse movements is detected on it, let's say, in 5 seconds?

i guess i can work my way around it... but is there actually a way to do this?

Rollover Animation Continuing - Easy Question
I have a simple button with a roll over animation that is 10 frames long.

Currently if you roll out before the 10 frames has finished, the animation stops but i want it to continue the full 10 frames without stopping regardless.

How do i do this??

Hello board members!

I really hope I'd be getting replies to this problem in which I'm facing, since I've given up on knowing where the reason it isn't working lies.

For the past few hours I've been working on linking an external text file to a number of dynamic text boxes in my movie.

All the text fields located in the main time line are working fine and showing the text from the file, and so is another one which is located inside a graphic instance.

However, I have three other movie-clip instances with text boxes inside each, and they are all failing to display the text from the file in which they are linked to... I've done everything exactly the same way as when linking the text boxes from the time line and the graphic instance, but simply can't get them to display their text =/

I've tried repeating the action-script code inside the movie-clip itself, tried changing the field (var) names, and even tried using a separate text file to display text from and changed it's location number.. but nothing is working!

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I very much thank you for your time =)

Text Gets Blurry When Linked
I've problem with crisp text in a scroll area in MX 2004 professional. The whole text gets blurry when I link a to an emailadress.

Can anybody explain this to me? Please…!

I'm making some dynamic buttons that read the button caption from an xml file. the captions are different lengths and I want the button to grow in height to accommodate the size of the caption.

is there a simple way of doing this?

Url Linked Text Not Working Right
I have text that is a movie clip, I highlighted the text and in the properties box I added a url to link to. But I can only get the link to work when the tip of the mouse is just above the text. If I click on the text itself, it does'nt go to the url. Clicking just above the text, the link works fine.

Seems I am not adding the url to the text?

Any thoughts?

Text Disappear When Linked
Hi there,
I wonder if this is a bug or I`m missing something. I just tried to use a static text field in my site and when I linked some of the text to URLs using the link field in the text property panel, the whole text box completely disappeared when exported .. when i removed the links it`s back.. !!!!

hope someone has a solution for this issue cus it just doesn`t seem to be there. I`m using MX 2004

Help With Linked .TXT File For Dynamic Text
How, if possible, would i load a movie from a link in a linked .txt?

example:
I am trying to have a journal that i could update the text easily, that i could have links within the text that could load photos(.SWF's) into a targeted _MC.

i'm begining to think i need to make this entire section out of html...but i wasn't sure the limitations of flash mx.

[CS3] Is It Possible To Motion Tween Linked Text?
I have linked text loading from a external .txt file into a MovieClip, I want it to fade in on my page, but it doesn't seem to work doing it inside my MovieClip. Without the tween it shows up perfectly but as soon as I apply the tween it doesnt show up any more...

Any ideas why it's not working?

Linked Button Text Issue
Hello, I've been running into an issue with buttons that seems to be counter-intuitive to how I would think a button instance would work

I have 2 buttons generated from the standard button class library. I draged them onto the stage and gave them instance names:

btnChapters
btnChapter1Pages

I then double clicked on "btnChapters" to enter the button editing window, and edited the text portion of the buton to have a label of "Chapters"

I returned to the stage, and then double clicked on btnChapter1Pages to enter the button editing window. I attempted to edit the text on the button and noticed that not only did it change the text on this button, but also the original button as well (so instead of two buttons labeled "Chapters" and "Pages" what occured is I now have two buttons labeled "Pages)

Is there some sort of option I have to turn off to removed this linked text for buttons of the same class?

Or is there some other process to allow two different instances of the same class button to have two different labels?

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Cant seem to find a verticle ticker that is continous that is linked to an outside text file. anybody got one out there?... My progamming ability il limited to modifying existing actionscripts.....

I am looking, but cant find, a verticle ticker, that is continous, that is linked to a txt file for updating. The continous part must be consistent , meaning there is no spacing between the end and the begining of the text within. I see them all the time, I just am not a programmer (I'm a modifyier)

Dynamic Text Boxes With Linked Content - HELP
Hi there,

I am trying to find out how to do the following:

I have 2 text boxes "A" and "B" laid out on the stage. The content for them is pulled in from a text file... however the content needs to fill the first text box ("A") and then the overflow text needs to fill the second text box ("B".

The reason the textboxes are split is because there is an image (which will change) between them.

Please please HELP!!!

Problems With Moveclip Containing An Linked Txt Text File
IÂ´ve done a TextField thatÂ´s has a txt-file linked into a flash document with a var script. I would like to create a MovieClip with this text field to be able to animate it. When I do this and place an instance of the MC on the stage and the moveclip the same as the textfield that the txt file is liked to It does not work. The MC animation works but no text are displayed. What have I done wrong?

Linked Static Text - No Pointer Finger?
I've got a bunch of text in some of my pages, and there are parts of the text that I have linked. On the web, the text just looks normal, which is fine, but when I put the mouse over it, the finger pointer doesn't come up, so no one would guess it's actually a link if they didn't know. It still works if you click on it, but why doesn't the mouse turn into the finger pointer?

Linked (<a Href>) JPEGs In Text Field? And...
I love the feature of 2K4 allowing JPEGs to be placed in text fields. Works wonderfully...except when attempting to link through <a href>. If I place the <img src="this.jpg"> between <a href=""></a> tags the image is not seen and the text after the tags is not seen either.

One workaround is a SWF file with the link as an on(release) - works fine, except I need the link to be easy to alter for several people who don't have or know flash.

Two questions:
1) Is there any way to make a JPEG a link?
2) Is there a way to add a variable in the <img src> tag - like <img src="thisSWFfile.swf?value=my needed link">?

BTW, cool just using <img src> tag to place a SWF in the text field hmmm?

Is it possible to align the text to the center in a dynamic text box that uses a .txt file? And what are all the HTML tags you can use in text boxes?

Editing Text File For Dynamic Text - Easy Way?
I have a site I'm making for a client. There is a DYNAMIC text box that displays a current list of customers. This info is in a customers.txt file.

Sample content of this file:
mycustomers=Alabama Power Company<br>Andrew Corporation<br>Black and Veatch Engineers, Inc.<br>

Is there an EASY way for them to modify this content on their own? Any suggestions? They aren't very computer or HTML savvy.

Get RollOver Event On Pure Text Without Having To Convert Text Into Mc Or Bt?
Is there a way of acheiving mouse over (pure) text triggering action?
(Reason: externally loaded text can be made as links and trigger effects on the fly)

I've been through the macromedia actionscript dictionary, the addeventlistener function does not work for me (or maybe i'm just too stupid).

Please DO NOT suggest converting text to movie clip or button if you can't solve my problem. But if you do have an answer, many many thanks in advance.

Detect Rollover Of Certain Text In Text Field?
Is it possible to detect a rollover of a hyperlink in an html-enabled text field? I'm familiar with the link event of the TextField class to program clicks of hyperlinks, but can anything be done with a rollover?

My intention is to show hint text (glossary term definition) of a term when the user rolls over that particular word (which would be underlined) in a paragraph.

Any ideas, or alternatives?

If I can determine the location of the text (such as a box that defines the regiong on the word), I could maybe add a button over the text... I'm not sure.

I've used asfunction in an <a href> link in a text field, but I'm looking for a way to call a function on rollover of certain words in the text.

Is this possible inside Flash without the use of any outside scripts (e.g.: Javascript)?

Easy Text Effects?
I'm not exactly a newbie, but most of you will think I'm an idiot for asking this, I need a good and time saving way to make text animated. I know FLASHKIT has this awesome TYPER thing, i've used it, but like ALL THOSE OTHER FLASH sites, they have text that comes on neatly, but I'm almost positive they all don't use the FLASH TYPER....So if there is a way that I just haven't found out yet, please lemme know people! the easyest way to keep the online uptodate would be to array everthing as it comes then put it down as string..

I know importing text into a dynamic text box is fairly easy anyway but i was wondering if Flash MX has made this even simpler ?

Easy To Update Text?
Hey everyone, whats goin on? I've made two band web sites recently, and as of now, I just have one of the band members email me the text they want as an update, and I copy and paste what they send me, and put it in a dynamic text field. I would like, if possible, for them to be able to update it themselves. Neither of these two bands has flash, or any knowledge of it. Is there a way where the information in a dynamic text field can get its information directly from a .txt file or something that they would be able to write themselves? How do most flash developers handle this updating problem?

I have a voice over that my time line is following.
During this voice over I want to be able to show the text that is being spoken.

Ok this is what i have so far
I have a main player that I call scenes in to the first scene is 1.swf in side of scene1 I I have:
A movie clip labeled floating inside of the floating movie clip I have a dynamic text box that I need to be able to call a different .txt file depending on which key frame I’m on.

I think all i need is to know how to call a dynamic text box inside a movie clip and replace the info depending on the key frame.
I know what I need, just dont know how to write it?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok I used to have a code that you just applied to two buttons and it would scroll the imported text from a TXT without hassle it was a really simple code and it wasn't the one from Macromedia.

[F8] EASY Question About Text
I am a SUPER newbie to flash. I've been able to use google and the help feature to get by but I've come across something simple that I can't figure out for the LIFE OF ME!!

I put a text box on the stage and all i want to do is make the background of the text field transparent! Please help me. I can't figure it out. I saw another thread that said to use TextField.background=false; but i don't even know where to put it. I select the text field and go to the ACTIONS panel and it says "current selection cannot have actions applied to it". I'm sure I'm a complete idiot, but can someone please walk me through this. I'll be eternally grateful.

Hey guys I've seen this asked a lot but I haven't found an answer yet.

I am loading external text into a text box for my bio page. Then this .swf is being loaded into another .swf (the 'about me' page) . The text shows up when I test the file locally (bio page) but in the 'about me' page it loads the text but it is not visible. This is the code for the bio page:

Easy: Different Text On Different Comps
I've tested a flash program I made on a few different computers other than my own. Some of the Text fonts I used (ones I've downloaded from the net) show up in a default font...is there a sure way to fix this?
