HEEELP !!

I wanna know if editing information in a text file as in storing, retrieving, displaying, updating is easy or not. I'm trying to use a text file as backend...say acting like a database...and flash as the front end. Is it possible?

Editing Text Files From Web Site?
Hello every one, I have a question regarding loading and editing text from an external file.

What I want to do is edit the text file from my website, so I don’t have to keep going to the text editor, making the change then reloading it. E.g.:

Say I have a price of a product on my site; the price is being read and displayed from a text file.

When I won’t to change this price, I wont to type in the new price into an input text field and then click on a button to update the price to the new price from my web site, is there any script that can do that? In flash MX

I would like to avoid using databases for this, but if that is the only way to do this, any help on how to do it will be much appreciated,

HTML Or PHP Interface For Editing Text Files
I'm trying to make editing a section of a website as easy as I can for someone. Is there a simple PHP script (and perhaps page) that they can
1. Append to the text file (But keep the same variable name, just append to the top but also have a date and time appended with it)
2. Use an interface like we have on this forum for basic text formatting that is converted to HTML tags.

Does something like this already exist or easily creatable? Or how about a simple script to import the text file as a whole into a text box and allow them to edit and save changes?

Any help would be appreciated.

Editing Externally Loaded Text Files
Does anyone know of a good text editor for externally loaded text files into Flash? I would like something similar to the box I am typing in right now for this message.

Is there a online/browser-based text editor (I know about Dura's) that a user could use to pull up and edit text files which hold variable values?

i.e. a user wants to edit the content on his website, and the website would be Flash based.

Forexample can I make and .swf create a movieclip inside a .fla file permanently?

Editing .fla Files
I know that this is probably a very stupid question, but I have downloaded a .fla file, and opened it in flash. It says on the website to 'edit the source' (eg. I want to change the names on the menu buttons) - how do I do this. I have played around with the file but can't find an editable 'source' as such - where is this, and what do I do?

Editing .FLA Files
Hi guys. I want to edit and save an existing symbol within a downloaded .FLA file. I can edit it no probs but when it comes to saving it, it saves it as a new (Untitled1.fla) I actually want it to modify the existing. FLA file and not create a new .FLA

Editing .fla Files
Hi ya every one i'm new to all this Flash and Dreamweaver stuff and i'm in a bit of a problem.

The thing is i'm trying to design a website have down loaded one of the files in the tutorials. Tutorial 08 Building a tsunami, is what i have down loaded.

I've managed to edit the text and the colour of the graphics to what i want but...the problem is

(1) How do i get it to run in Dream MX

(2) How do i get each of the words to hyper link to a different page on my site.

Please some one help me.....lol

FLV Files - Editing
I understand the FLV files are compressed and meant to be a delivery format, however I need to do some minor editing. Here is my situation. I am experimenting with live streaming of video. I used Flash Media Encoder 2.5 to encode the stream before I sent it to the web. I checked the box that says save a copy. That file is a FLV file. I streamed a High School football game and saved the whole game as two FLV files. Now I want to make a highlight video, as a FLV file. I have found all kinds of converters on the web to change FLV to AVI. I even found one for Premier. But I do not want to convert, edit and re-encode. That I think would introduce too much loss of quality. All I need is to trim the file, maybe even split it into different plays. Is there any tools out there that can do that?

Hello,

Is there any way to take an existing FLV file (the source is an FLV file that was saved during a live stream) and edit it using Premiere or any other similar program? I'm finding many ways to encode to FLV with existing source files that are not FLV but I cannot find any way to edit an existing FLV file.

If this cannot be done, is there a way to save a live stream video to any other file format that can be edited with Premiere?

Editing FLV Files
I have an FLV file that I would like to extract some images from. I have tried to import it into Flash MX Professional 2004 (and also Flash 6) and although it imports the file and I can view the pictures it doesn't play any sound.

I don't seem to be able to edit individual frames either. One item I found on the internet says that when a FLV file is imported the individual frames are converted to key frames but that does not happen in my case.

Does anybody have any tips.

I had made an SWF animation file. However its .fla file got corrupted. I had saved the SWF file on a website.

I have changed some swf files embedded in my flash movie, but I am not able to save these files. That means I can't upload them to my Web page. Even though they are part of the larger movie they don't come up on the Web.

How do you set the angle of a gradient in Flash? I have no problem creating a gradient, I just can't make it go 45 degrees or top to bottom, etc.

I expected a more Freehand interface.

I dont know if this is exactly a flash question,but I have 2 text files that deliver dynamic content to my website. All I want is assign a end user a username and password and be able to edit those 2 text files online.

Editing Flash Mx Files In CS3?
I have some complicated movies put together using Flash MX. They work fine, but now need to be updated.

I was already thinking of updating my software - but can only find suitable updates to take me to CS3 Pro. Will I have problems in editing these original MX files?

Also, the users only have flash player 6 installed

Been searching around the internet - but just cant find anyone who has this experience and I really dont want to update and then find I am unable to edit my original files. Any input much appreciated!

Is it possible to edit lines made in flash ( without any kind of tween attached to them ) in photoshop? I've tryed to select export image, but which format is editable in photoshop, of those which are displayed? Anyway, what can I do to edit lines made in flash in photoshop?

Editing .swf Files For Web Template *Help*
Hey, I am VERY new to flash, and I am not really interested in learning all about it.

But I do have a few problems.

1.) I downloaded a Web Template in Flash, to use on a website I am making.
- These are the folders in this template and the files in each folder.
- Flash ( content.fla / index.fla / home.fla) Type of file - Flash Documents -
- Html ( about/contacts/home/index/news/products/services) < Flash Movies also another Index file type (Firefox Document)
- psd (index) << Adobe photoshop image
- fonts 5 font names.

Ok, so I have adobe flash cs3, and I messed around a little bit with the .fla files content/index/home, and changed the text to suit what I wanted, and also removed a sound clip, and changed some more text.

Now I saved these, and copied over the .fla files in the Flash folder.

Here is my problem, although my changes saved,the website still looks the same even after re uploading the new .swf files. Although when i open the .swf files in Flash they are infact changed.

I've tried deleting all the .fla and .swf files i uploaded, and re uploading my changed ones, but it seems like it's not even going off of the .fla files that I edited? and the files in the HTML folder I cannot edit.. they just open up like a jpeg picture.

Any feedback or help would be GREATLY appreciated, Thanks in advance. I'll keep checking back for a response.

Editing DIR Files Using Flash
I work for a private manufacturing company and the company paid a developer to create an internal web site. The developer used Director to create all the links, text and import the images.. etc... then took the .DCR file and placed it into an .html file ....
Problem is he is no longer here and the company doesn't own Director, Flash, Dreamweaver or even a decent bitmap editor.....
Anyway, they need to move forward to support the current site and add content etc and I was told by a sales associate that Director was no longer available and that Flash could be used to edit the Director files. With that assumption, it would be possible to purchase the Web Standard package from Adobe and edit the current .Dir files using Flash, convert them into .SWF files ... further edit them and add content in Dreamweaver and have a path to support the website moving forward.
I tested this theory with the demo copies of Flash and it doesn't appear to support this... I call Adobe tech support and they were very curt about giving me any information on this.. except that it 'was possible' and to check the web (google, forums). I have spent some time searching and cant find anything concrete..... any advice thanks...

Help Editing Large Sound Files?
Hi. I'm a newbie to Flash MX and I'm trying to create a digital poetry piece using Flash that will end up on a VCD (just because the files sizes are so enormous, it'd take year to download over the web). I have a huge spoken word narration for the piece (about 2-3 minutes long) that I've compressed from a wav file into an MP3 and imported onto a layer. It sits in the first frame of that layer. My experience with sound files in Flash 5 has been with small loops that are easy to edit because you can see the whole file stretching out across the frames of the layer.

What I want to do is be able to stop or, really, "pause" the narration at a certain point during which another smaller sound file will play, and when it ends, the narration will resume to the end.

When I go into the properties panel, the sound file for the narration is all there, but I can't tell where the points are where I'd want to make it stop and start again because when it plays, the little indicator doesn't move along the file.

So--can anyone help me figure out how to stop/pause the narration layer file, play the smaller sound file on another layer, stop that, then resume the narration sound file?

Well recently I incorporated several dynamic text fields into my flash project which read their content off of .txt files in the same folder as the .fla file, and now I'm wondering if there's any way/anything I can do to be able to edit the .txt files from a password protected scene in my flash project - in order to provide for an easier more efficient means of updating the site.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

i'm wondering if there's any way for flash or javascript through flash to dynamically create/edit local xml/text files. i know about using xml.send() to send xml to be written by a server-side application, and about using jsfl for editing local files during authoring, but i cannot find the answer to this question! is there any way to do this? through ajax... or anything?

Editing External Html/txt Files
ok, so i am loading external text files, formatted as html, into dynamic text fields and it's working great. now the next step is to enable my users to edit the text files through their web browsers without having to deal with (or mess up) HTML tags. i want it to be a little like posting on a forum... you have a bold button, maybe an italics button, not much more.

the trick is when you click save, the HTML code is generated and saved to whichever text file you are editing. this would be great, is it even close to possible?

Editing FLV Files - Split / Merge
Our studio is moving to a Flash video streaming solution from a RealVideo streaming one. We stream multiple live streams daily and archive our streams as well and there are times when we'd like to edit the .flv video files to cut out a section or maybe merge two flv files. For RealVideo files, this can be done using the Real Media editor that is built into Real Producer. Is there any solution to accomplish this with FLV files?

I've scoured google and I've found workarounds that involved converting the .flv file into an avi or an mpeg, editing it and then converting it back using multiple programs and plugins to accomplish this, but that process is too complicated for most of the end-users in our studio and converting the format over and over obviously causes degradation in the quality of the video. Has Adobe created a standalone tool to split/merge flv files? If anybody has a solution please share. Thanks!

hey everyone,
you know on miniclip.com they have their own intro before all the games that says "Miniclip.com -- Free Games and Shows"?

i was wondering how i can do that to swf files. I know i can import them into flash MX and just add it before the movie starts, butonce i resave it as an SWF file, all the sound and actionscript is gone and the game is all messed up. how does miniclip do it??

In my new job role I inherited some existing Flash videos. In order to put them to use, I need to edit out parts. And maybe append 2 .swf files together. I do not have any of the original authoring data. Just the .swf files.

Aparently you can only read, write, create, and delete, and add to a .txt file but not rewrite over existing data.

I really need to know how to do this using actionscript. I am eventually going to put my flash game on the web but I need to be able to read, write, create, and delete .txt files before I do that. How do I do this?

Editing Text In A Dynamic Text Box That Are Variable Values
Hi everyone, I want to adjust the space between characters in a dynamic text box, that is specified by the value of a variable and I´m going nuts trying to do it! I can´t edit the text much through the text options/properties, except the font. Can someone please help me out here?

Editing Text File For Dynamic Text - Easy Way?
I have a site I'm making for a client. There is a DYNAMIC text box that displays a current list of customers. This info is in a customers.txt file.

Sample content of this file:
mycustomers=Alabama Power Company<br>Andrew Corporation<br>Black and Veatch Engineers, Inc.<br>

Is there an EASY way for them to modify this content on their own? Any suggestions? They aren't very computer or HTML savvy.
