External .swf Files Wont Sync In Browser
I have multiple .swf files loading into a main .swf. One contains a video, another contains text and animations...they sync fine when I play them in the flash player on my computer, but the video.swf gets ahead of the animations.swf when they play in a web browser..
They are both set to 24fps, the .swf containing the progressive .flv seems to play fine, while the animation .swf file in the background clearly lags when it's played in the browser (tweens aren't smooth, sync gets off).
Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.

Load External Text Files In Sync With Flv Cuepoints - HELP, Please
been going bonkers over this for days, so would appreciate any input, please.
i'm using flash 8 and i've been able to puzzle out how to use an event listener with embedded cuepoints in an flv video (using a FLVPlayback component instance). but this is a very general understanding and i can't figure out how to do something specific that i need.
specifically, i need to load a series of external text files into a dynamic text area and these will act as subtitles to the video.
the embedded cuepoints within the video will act as the triggers that load the text files one after the other (e.g. at cuepoint 01, load subtitles01.txt...at cuepoint 02, load subtitles02.txt and so forth).
i have found zero documentation or references for the kind of functionality i need (specifically using FLVPlayback), so i could really really use suggestions from experienced flash users. thank you!

EITHER: Volume Control On Sync Streaming Problem OR Loading External MP3 Not In Sync
Hi - I'm having a bit of a nightmare at the moment and would if you could pass any advice on the following, as I have been stuck on this for sometime.
As part of a menu screen, I have a background movie which involves a series of animations etc. This movie plays in sync with the music. This all works fine and is quite effective.
However, it has come to my attention that some of the users sometimes wanted to adjust the volume or mute it altogether. I have done many examples of this before previously, but became stuck when I realised for the music, all I did was import the MP3, and then dragged it right onto the timeline. From this, there is no variable/instance/linkage created to control the volume using setVolume. I tried to give a linkage name but was not affecting the main sync streamed music on the timeline.
SO following this, I decided at the beginning of the preloader to load the MP3 externally and play it as a stream, however this does not sync with the movie and falls out of time with it.
So all I need is a push to where I should go with this one.
All I want is for a MP3 to play in sync with the movie and I can adjust the volume of it also via actionscript during the movie.
- Is there a command I can use to sync the streaming external MP3?
- Can I adjust the volume of the initial sync stream via the timeline
Any ideas on this would be extremely helpful.
Thank you in advance.

Loading External .asp Files In Same Browser As F
Hello
I created a flash intro and a main navigation page for a client. Another company she hired produced all of the sub pages in an .asp format. I used the getUrl to call up the subpages from the main menu buttons in flash. The .asp pages are accessed, but they are opening in individual browsers.
How do I get these pages to load in the same browser that the Flash doc loads in?
Thanks- J

Preloading External .swf Files Into Browser Cache...
Hello,
I'm working on a hybrid site that uses multiple .swf files throughout and was wondering if there was a way I can have all the .swf files load to browser cache on the first page, either with actionscript, or javascript, or some other alternative…
Basically, I want certain .swf files to be cached to the users browser when the main page loads, so the files are ready when the user starts to navigate the rest of the site.

Browser Problems Loading External Files
I think I've seen something about this before, but I can't remember...
I am loading an XML file into my SWF:
ActionScript Code:
xNav.load("nav.xml");
The XML file is in the same directory as the SWF, the page it is embedded into is also in the directory.
It works in most browsers including Netscape7.1, but NOT in Netscape7.0.
I am using frames also.
I've heard that different browsers reference the external files differently.. from the embedded page.. from the SWF. Does anyone know the differences for the different browsers? - or is this a frames issue?

Importing External Files: Preview And Browser Works, But It Doesn't Work With Player
Basically, when I import external .swf files or .xml files, I can usually see them perfectly fine in browsers and in preview windows. But when I try to run them separately using Flash Player, it doesn't show them at all.
Is there something simple I could be overlooking that is causing this? Or is there something wrong with my Flash Player?
The program I use is Flash MX Pro, and my Flash player is Flash Player 6. I've tried updating my Player using Macromedia.com, but I have a feeling that it's only updating the browser plug-ins and not the player itself.
It's not really a problem, but if it's something that will cause a certain percentage of people to not be able to see my stuff, it could be a potential problem.

Out Of Sync In Browser?
Hi
I have a flash presentation that loads mp3 sounds dynamically...
When i test locally and also upload to my site there are no problems....but when someone else views it online....there are overlaps occuring with the sound.......then if the viewer refreshes the page and watches again....the overlaps are gone and the movie plays ok.......which makes me think that the initial download speed
causes a hitch....i have a preloader that seems to works fine....but im wondering if there is way to overcome the problem of it being out of sync the first time its viewed.....ive checked kenny bellews
sound tutorials but none cover this particular area......anyone else experience this problem?.......maybe a preloader to a preloader.....
any help would be really appreciated.....

Audio Out Of Sync Only In Browser
I have an animation that is in sync on the timeline and when exported and played in the flash player it is still in sync. When embeded in a web page the animation is slower and it goes out of sync. I have a loader on it so that it doesn't play until its all loaded, which I only added because I thought it might fix the problem, but it doesn't.
The animation is set to 30fps. Does 30fps not work in a browser? Help a noob.
To sum it up:
In Flash (on timeline): In Sync
Standalone Flash player: In Sync
Embeded in browser: Not in Sync

FLV Wont Sync With Swf Animation Only On A Browser...
Im fairly new to manipulating FLV's outside of a creating a player or setting up a Component to play it. But I am stumped on how to sync flash animation with an FLV.
I have some alpha-channeled video and I animated it to move around within the flash stage at certain points, and at the end I animate it completely off the screen to make it look like it flew out of frame. Everything was fine until I went to view it on a browser. When I view it on a browser the ending animation where it goes off screen always occurs too late. I even tried reducing the animation times in the fla and still it won’t sync up.
Anyone know what is going on here? I know flvs play at different frame rates than the swf but I have tried both the 29.97 flv and 18 fps fla as well as an 18 fps flv and fla and but still no difference. Do I have to use a cue point to trigger the animation? Should the cue point be action script based or embedded in the flv? Thanks for the advice.

Flash Movie Out Of Sync In Browser
I designed a flash mx movie where text flys in to the beat of the music. It plays fine when I export the movie and double click it to play in the flash player, or hit ctrl enter in Flash to preview, but when I insert the movie into an html page in dreamweaver and hit F12 to preview it in IE, it's out of sync. The text seems to play slower than the music and doesn't hit the beats anymore. I designed the movie in Flash MX at 24 fps playback. Am I missing something?

How To Keep Separate .swf Files In Sync?
Alright, I have a stupid problem ...
We were previously using this old, crummy timeline-based image slideshow type thing, and on Monday, I finally built a simple XML-based .swf to do the same thing. We have several instances of the new .swf (5, to be exact) lined up across the top of this Web site. As dumb as it sounds, for this one, we have it so that images 1-2-3-4-5 transition to images 2-3-4-5-6 (take a look: http://mdcamping.com/)
The problem is that, since these are separate .swf files now, when there aren't enough CPU cycles given to flash player or something, the .swf files get out of sync, and it ends up a total mess. This tends to happen when the browser is minimized for a while. They are all based on the same interval settings (you can check out the XML for the left-most here: http://mdcamping.com/flash/header1.xml).
Any suggestions?

Audio Sync/AVI Files? AARGH
I am having an audio sync problem with a presentation we are doing. We are using Flash MX 2004 Pro on a Mac G4 dual 1ghz running OS X 10.2.8 with 1g of ram.
Essentially, the sound is fine until about halfway through, where the audio begins to creep ahead of the video. By the time the audio ends, the video is way behind. This happens in exported swf's and in exported projector files. However, when we TEST each scene individually, the sound matches up perfectly with the video.
The nitty-gritty of the file is as such:
18 scenes. The video was ORIGINALLY all AVI exported from uLead software on the PC. We then exported that from Flash separating the video into swf files and the audio into avi files.
The first 1-8 scenes each have a video (SWF) layer, and a separate audio (AVI) layer. These were set to Stream in the sync setting.
The next 2 scenes (9-10) have NO video. There is only the audio AVI track over some vector tweens. again set to Stream.
Scene 11 is just like the first 8, separate video and audio layers, set to Stream.
Scene 12 has no video, only audio over some vector tweens. set to Stream.
Scene 13 is different, it has one swf file which contains the audio and video, and is set to Stream.
Scene 14 has no video, only audio over some vector tweens. set to Stream.
Scene 15 has one swf file which contains the audio and video, and is set to Stream.
Scene 16 has no video, only audio over some vector tweens. set to Stream.
Scene 17-18 each has one swf file which contains the audio and video, and is set to Stream.
There must be some combination of what we are doing that is causing this. Does anyone have any ideas?

All of the music clips are in time with one another, all i need is for the flash file to load, then the files to start together so they don't skip out of time (but start muted) then to make the buttons un-mute (and mute) the clips as desired when pressed...
I've tried to research it and came across Attaching Sound Dynamically, but i'm a n00b and can't really understand how to do it.

How Can I Sync Swf And And External Mp3?
My preloader calls an external swf - set up so that the swf starts after completely downloading. The external swf in-turn loads an external mp3. How can I sync the 2 to start simultanaeously? I would just place the mp3 on the swf timeline, except there I can not have a mute on/off function. With it being external I have scripted buttons for mute on/off. I see that AS3 does not support button behaviors - that was left behind in AS2.
Thanks for being patient with beginners!
Preloader Code:
Code:
var myRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("sunrise.swf");
var myLoader:Loader = new Loader();
myLoader.load(myRequest);
myLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.OPEN,showPreloader);
myLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS,showProgress);
myLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,showContent);
myLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.INIT ,initHandler);
var myPreloader:Preloader = new Preloader();
function showPreloader(event:Event):void {
addChild(myPreloader);
myPreloader.x = stage.stageWidth/2;
myPreloader.y = 550;
}
function showProgress(event:ProgressEvent):void {
var percentLoaded:Number = event.bytesLoaded/event.bytesTotal;
myPreloader.loading_txt.text = "Loading - " + Math.round(percentLoaded * 100) + "%";
myPreloader.bar_mc.width = 198 * percentLoaded;
}
function initHandler(e:Event) {
MovieClip(LoaderInfo(e.target).content).stop();
}
function showContent(event:Event):void {
removeChild(myPreloader);
addChild(myLoader);
MovieClip(LoaderInfo(event.target).content).play();
}
Sound Code in External swf
var soundReq:URLRequest = new URLRequest("ijLoop.mp3");
var sound:Sound = new Sound();
var soundControl:SoundChannel = new SoundChannel();
var volumeControl:SoundTransform = new SoundTransform();
sound.load(soundReq);
sound.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onComplete);
function onComplete(event:Event):void
{
soundControl = sound.play();
on_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, volOn);
off_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, volOff);
}
function volOn(event:MouseEvent):void
{
volumeControl.volume = 1;
soundControl.soundTransform = volumeControl;
}
function volOff(event:MouseEvent):void
{
volumeControl.volume = 0;
soundControl.soundTransform = volumeControl;

Sync External MP3 With SWF
We're developing a movie that will upon the users input select the sound source as well as input a dynamic text. When creating the FLA we placed a sample MP3 in the timeline and sync "stream" with the movie. It plays fine on both Mac and Win machines. Once we upload and introduce the var code for the mp3 source we run into the sync problem again.
You can see the sample at http://www.justmemusic.com/flashtest/flashtest01.html
My action script is below in the flash file:
Any ideas?
Thanks
Attach Code
var mySound_sound:Sound=new Sound();
var myName:String=new String();
_root.onLoad=function(){
//_root.stop();
myName=txtSpelling;
mySound_sound.loadSound("http://www.justmemusic.com/mp3/CD7/"+txtName+"Demo.mp3", true);
}
_root.onEnterFrame=function(){
jmmName.text=myName;
}
mySound_sound.onLoad = function(success:Boolean) {

//mySound_sound.start();
} else {

Preload External SWF's To Sync With Movie?
Hey guys and gals, I know this one has been asked many times, but I just can't get it to work for my particular situation. I have 3 seperate SWF's that I generated with FlashTyper and I am using loadmovie to have them play over a moving background in my main movie timeline. I also made 3 white fadeout movies to put on the layer above each SWF so that I can have the FlashTyper SWF's fade out.(if there is a better way to do that, please let me know!) The problem is that the SWF's start loading after the main timeline has begun and they don't sync up with it. Is there a way that I can make a preloader or something that will preload those external SWF's before playing the main movie?
I really am very new to actionscripting and I am stupid when it comes to javascript, so if you could please talk like I am a newbie when you reply, I would greatly appreciate it. This loadMovie action is the most advanced thing I have done so far, if that tells how much I know?
Thanks everyone,

Sound Files (sync: Stream) "disappear"?
this was originally the ".fla file stops on 2nd frame" post - but looking for some further insight on this more specific topic - hence the new post w/more specific title line..
background: work computer crashed, all original .wav files there... had .fla files tucked neatly onto my flash stick (but no .wav files) & went to home computer. everything seemed to be working fine but then started editing .fla files on home computer. now no audio works (from published html file).
deduction: when sync setting is on 'stream', audio files need to be in consistent, find-able directory (for flash). once published, everything is fine and packaged but begin to edit .fla files in another environment where .wav directory isn't accessible and sound files won't play (even though the waveforms still show up in my .fla file).
is this an accurate theory?
ps - thanks to REEF for all the help on my previous post...

Re-sync Out Of Sync Live Streams
Hi Guys,
I'm testing an application I've created. It's basically a 2-way A/V chat, with a text chat application on there as well.
Each user publishes a live stream, which is recorded on the server and then resent back down to the other user.
I've been testing it locally and everything is fine, so I signed up to Influxis on their Nitrous plan to give it a test run over the Internet.
Each stream is publishing a 32Kbps video + 8Kbps audio stream. Each user has a fast broadband connection, with around a 140 ping to the server.
Over time, around 10 minutes or so, the live streams get quite far out of sync. It can take over 20 seconds for the stream to reach the other person, making a "live" chat quite useless.
If I stop and start the streams again, it brings everything back into line, so I'm considering this as a potential resolution.
I'd really like to know why this sort of thing occurs, how I can minimise it, and how to recover from it when it does happen.
Any help would be appreciated!

Targeting External Files To Text Files In Flash
Gooday all
I am developing a flash site for a movie company and it needs to be 100% dynamic! and must be flash 5 compatible
To put things as simply as I can here goes.
I have a directors page - on this page I have two text fields.
The first text field pulls all the directors names from an external file called directors.html, In this external file I have html hyperlinks which link to each directors bio text (in another external text file), what I want to do is basically target the second text field in flash. i.e. when you are in flash and click one of the directors names his info must appear in the adjacent text field.
you follow?

Multiple External Text .txt Files In Different Swf Files
I'm trying to have several external files (txt or html) attached to a several swf flash files, loading in different levels of one main movie, for easy updating.
Example is: loadVariablesNum("ext-track.txt", 0);
This I can do, partly working.
Say you click the button for "about" that loads that flash file (in a layer), it fails to load in the relevant external file (the movie loads just not the external text file).
When you open up the "about.swf" on its own, it loads up the external file no problem. It just fails to do it when I am loading it from the main swf movie file that then loads this in a layer.
I can get all the text files working by putting in all the loadVariable parts in the main movie but I need them put into their relevant swf movies.
Does that make sense?
How do you correct, something to do with layers or targetting? I'm sure it'll be easy for you guys, Actionscript ain't my thing.
Thanks.

FLASH - Flv Files & Importing External Files
Note: this is trying to be done all in Flash... please be patient as I have to explain it...
Here's the scenario... I am currently building a website for a coffee company, and as an introduction to their website, they want to play a short clip of 16 seconds, size 350x250 - fine... The real problem is that I have been asked to make it appear as if it was actual footage on TV - in effect, at super high quality with NO (and I mean, NO) Pixelation... very stringent, but they think I can somehow push the boundaries and work something out!! Also they wish for it to play as soon as the website begins (no chance of preloading!!) - without an option for the user to control the film (as in no play/stop/rew buttons, etc.)
In order to create this, I had to use Final Cut Pro - as this was the only program that passed the 'test' for what was asked... the client has a major issue with the 'fade' to black sections of the film - believing them to look as if they are shimmering (this also being the initial problem with building it directly in Flash). I passed this through all types of compression to achieve the smallest possible file (12MG) - and then from Quick Time Pro - I came up with an immaculate looking, but incredibly large flv file - using the export feature. Total... 82MB, yes MB...
Please note, I am fully aware of compression, but have to iterate this incredible request!!
Rather than attach it to the timeline in Flash, I placed the created FLV file in the same folder and requested on the first line of the timeline - through Actionscript - that it plays the FLV 'progressively'. To my understanding, this file should play whilst not having to load up before hand... (learnt of this from Macromedia website.)
I have seen this method used in a few tutorials, but admittedly the file sizes are approximately 5MB...
After uploading the file (took over an hour), I tested the film and it began to play extremely slow and choppy. After 16 seconds (the expected duration of the clip) the next scene in the timeline began !! The film had actually only progressed about 3 seconds into itself....
I don't think I am necessarily doing much wrong as it is the best solution that I could come up with in terms of keeping the final 'SWF' file to a minimum size so a user will not have to wait it to load up (got Flash files to 24MB - but still too long to load up!!!)
Can anyone think of an alternative method to playing an 82 MB file, or is this just plain ridiculous??
I am at a loss because I am still curious to see if this is actually feasible... if so then maybe you will help me push the boundaries of Internet viewing!!!
ALL comments/suggested will be highly appreciated and definitely considered
Okolom

[F8] External Text Files Wont Load Into External Swf File...
Hi,
I'm making a Flash website in Flash 8 (mac).
Structure: There is 1 main file that loads external SWF files depending on what is clicked on.
One of the external SWF files loads its text from external text files. This works fine when viewing the SWF applet on its own. But when viewing as a whole site, the text doesnt appear. Very annoying.
I made that particular SWF on my mums computer running Flash MX 2004. The flash file itself uses the Scrollbar component from MX.
Could someone tell me why the text doesnt load in this scenario? It runs fine on its own, just not as an external SWF.
I've attached the files in question. Its a 200kb ZIP download. Do tell me if you need to know more.

SWF Files And Browser Cache
Hi,
I make very simple flash banners for my website announcing updates. I keep the filename the same, so when it's updated, anyone who has my banner on their site does not have to re-arrange their HTML code.
The problem is that when I replace the old SWF file with the new one, my browser keeps the old file in cache. Even a Shift+F5 (forced refresh in Mozilla) does not refresh the SWF file like it does with JPG, PNG and GIF files. This leads me to believe that people int he general public are not always seeing the most recent SWF from my site.
My question is if there is a setting I could place in the actionscript or the embed/object HTML code that would specify whether or not to chache the SWF.
Thanks for helping.

I have a menu that loads external jpgs, it used to work fine when clicking on the actual swf or when was view on a browser, but I think that around the time I update to flash player 8, the menu stop displaying the external images, when being view through a html browser, I have tried already with Mozilla and IE.
My wild guess is that flash player 8 or windows xp has some new security that is stopping my external jpgs from loading when view through the internet.
What could be causing the jpg from loading into the menu when view through an html browser and what can I do to fix this?

Thanks
Alex

Can Exe Download Files Without A Browser?
is there anyway to download a file on the web, from a flash exe ?
under normal circumstances, a simple getURL can open a browser window,
and point to a file to download.
i do NOT want to do this.
can a file be downloaded without any noticable interaction from a browser?
i am ok with also using a third-party program, along with the exe.

Swf Files Don't Print From Browser On OS X
Everytime I try to print a swf file from a web page using Safari, IE, or Firefox on OS X, they show up blank. Am I missing something? This has happened with 3 other people I've asked. And I can't find a reason why swf files can't be printed from the Mac OS X. And there doesn't seem to be any info on it. Very strange.

Why Don't .swf Files Seem To Cache On A Browser?
I'm using Safari on Mac OS X 10. I've got a 3 mb .swf on a web page. It seems that if I hit a "refresh" on the browser, it loads the whole thing from the beginning, with the progress bar and everything. I don't have anything set to clear the cache as far as I know. Is this normal?
What I'm trying to do is have a movie that shows a bunch of operating screens from some software as different frames that you can navigate to, like a virtual version of the software. I had hoped that once the user had already loaded the movie, that i could provide URLs (in other web pages) that link directly to various pages of the movie using FlashVars. This works sort of, but it reloads the entire movie from the beginning with each different URL. Is there some way to keep the movie in memory so that this doesn't need to happen?

Playinf FLV Files In The Browser
How do I get FLV files to play in the browser?
I encoded an MPEG file into FLV format using Riva FLV Encoder (an excellent free encoder), but now I want to play the file in Internet Explorer. I tried using the same "OBJECT" tags as for a SWF file, but it doesn't work.
Can someone tell me how to embed the file that I encoded into an HTML page.
N,B.: I know that the file encoded correctly. I am able to view the file using the Riva FLV Player.
Thanks in advance.

Scalable Swf Files In A Window Browser
I 'm sure I saw somewhere a thread talking about scaling movies... or something along those lines....
Well I don't know if this is possible, but is there anyway of creating an swf file which, when published as a website (or new window to a website) scales with the window (when you drag the corner or maximise).
I am designing a site which is purely flash (not a good idea, but we're working on the html side) http://www.manchesterprinting.com
When the window is small (or viewed on a small monitor) some of the page is hidden and you have to use the scroll bars.
So going back to my question, can I make the file scalable?
All feedback would be good, even if it's "don't be ridiculous", or "it needs to be done in html". I'm about to undertake a proper website and html course, but at the moment just winging it.

About Flash And Browser Cache Files
Another question... we all know that your web browser caches all the things you see on the web... pages, images, and FLASH MOVIES. So, if i had a flash movie on the web, viewing the movie will just be the same as downloading it, you just have to get it form your cache folder and copy it to another folder.
My question is this... what if the movie loads another movie dynamically? will the other movie also be cached?
