Zooming Vector Images To Huge Huge Sizes
Hi guys,
Im working on an intro project that requires me to scale a part of a (vector) image fullscreen. For example, there is a scene of a person on a couch (full body pose), so the eye is really small. The next scene/image is a speck on that person's eye.
My solution so far is to use tweens. I have an image at a hundred percent and scale it to as much as 100000%(yes, i do it manually, hope we had a bigger stage than 2880x2880 px). To get rid of useless processing overhead, i converted the entire tween to key frames and cropped of all parts that fall offstage.
BTW, this presentation runs at fullscreen (800x600). My question now is there a way to zoom into something using tweens that would emulate the www.sofake.com effect? wherein the zooming starts slow, then runs constant, then finally slows down at the end? a combination of easing ins and outs on a single zoom sequence with 3 or 4 keyframes? any help would be much appreciated. thanks.
sorry no file to display, private stuff for company.

Huge File = Huge Mess
I'm very new and suck at this. I realize my first problem is my file is too big (500k +)! I can't compress the wav file I'm using anymore! It's now a 364k .mp3 file.
That being said. My Flash movie plays fine and in sync within the Flash toolkit, but on the web or even while previewing the web page while it's still local is horrible. It's out of sync, loops over itself. It starts to lag badly and misses symbols. Just a mess. Any help would be appreciated.
If you need, I can send you the url, I don't really want a lot of traffic
Tiny Swf File Sizes. I Add One Word Of Text And The File Jumps 1k?
So im trying to keep my flash movie as small as possible. So far the movie is sitting at 10.4kb. If i go back into the fla and type ONE WORD of just plain white text -no tween, fade or anything, the movie after exported jumps to 11.5k. ???? One word typed in Flash with no tween adds a full 1k??
Is that right? I would think one word of text should be a couple of bytes.
Anyone have any suggestions?

A Huge File
i have a movie that is huge...because of a sound i imported. is there anyway i can have the sound not take up as much space?
Huge File
Okay I have a question...Why is my Fla file like 44megs big? Because when I publish the file it ends up being 140kb aprox. The numbers just don't really add together.
Huge Swf File
I have on my hard drive a TV commercial in the .swf format that I got off the internet. But it is huge in size... 35 mb. Similar commericals I've seen are around 2 to 3 mb's. I tried converting it to a .avi file and it went from 35 mb to 85 mb... accccccccck! It plays fine in either format but why it is so large. I don't see anything different about it from the other commericals. Does anybody know a way to convert this to reasonable file size without a major loss in quality.
Thanks,
Wendell
Huge .FLA File
Okay why is my .fla file about 44 megs? Because that is HUGE. And I have about 600 frames in there. But yah. I doubt that's that much :-/ So..Yah I've tried to compress etc. NOTHIN WORKS WTF? HELP ME!!!!!!!
Huge Fla File
Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help. I've created a number of flash files which include FLV video clips. Some of the clips are much longer and bigger in file size than others, but I have one Flash file who's video clip is very short and small in file size but the actual .fla file is huge (about 160mb) - much bigger than the ones with larger video clips in.
I've checked that there isn't anything else in the library which might be making the file bigger, so I can't work out why it is!
Any ideas of what else I can try??
Thanks very much

Huge File Size. What Do I Do?
Hey,
Ive got a huge .fla (and .swf) file and i dont know how to make it smaller. ive got some pictures in it. i dont have any .wav or .mp3 or anything so what could i do?
Can MX Help Me With This Huge Sound File?
I need some help my sound file is too fat. Here is the situtation...
I am doing a large flash demo for work (not a flash developer by trade). The flash consist of 12 scenes with a combine 1 mb file size with background music looping in all scenes with scene specific voice overs sounds. At this time I have background sound of 2.8mb mp3 (I probably can cut it down to another 1.6mb) and voice overs of 2.4mb mp3 ( I can probably cut to 2.2mb).
I have tried all kind of sound compression tools and these sound files wont get any smaller. Is there a way to compress the files further?
My key concerns right now are:
1) with sound files this large how can I make sure that a viewer with a dial-up can view the flash without waiting a 1 hour for it
2) will these large files sounds mess up the syncing of voiceovers to animation in the Flash
I was thinking about preloader (I really don't see a way around it) but is there any other ways of compressing the mp3 files in Flash. If i can get the total file size to 3-4mb I think it may work.
Any suggestions will be Great
Loading A Huge Swf File?
Hi all
I am doing series of animation..

topic2.swf 4,599 KB
and so on...
My problem.
When intro.swf is finished it loads topic1.swf on targetclip, everythiing works except it takes forever to load....the presentation should run off the cd-rom.
what I did?
I tried with adding empty keyframes on topic.swf
I build preloader on topic.swf...though it`s running off the cd-rom.
both method failed!
Could someone please reccomend a better solution.

Huge File Size......
No one ever helped with my other request...But after a few hours of tinkering, I figured out how to do what I wanted.
Now I've got a new problem: My 5 minute SWF file is 14MB.
How can I make this smaller?
Also, where can I find a nice tutorial to do a simple (very simple) "Loading" screen so people don't think their browser's stopped working.
Here's a link to my presentation: The size is okay for me because I'm just presenting it to my class directly from the SWF file on my laptop..But I want the average person that visits my page to be able to view it and not have to wait.

Search In A Huge XML File
hi!
I am currently developing a flash gui for a xml export of an online software vulnerability database. My problem: the file is very large (uncompressed 23 MB, around 500000 lines).
You can download it here (zipped around 1,6 MB)
http://www.osvdb.org/exports/xmlDum...Current.xml.bz2
The plan is that a user downloads and unzips the file, then places it in the same folder as the swf and uses flash player to search it. Unfortunately my flash player hangs up when I try to load the whole xml file - if I take just 4-10 nodes it runs perfectly. BBEdit takes around 1,5 minutes to open the xml file (powerbook g4 500).
My questions: is there anyone experienced in handling so much data? It would be no problem if it takes a while for the player to load the xml file, but currently it doesn't do anything but hang up. Is the whole thing even possible?
Thanks in advance

FLV Seeking W/ Huge File
I have a 270 mb FLV (its over an hour long). If I try to seek to about 50 minutes right when it opens, it takes about 20 seconds. Is there a way to make this seek better? Or does flash just not like big FLVs...
Huge File - Is This Wrong?
I am developing an instructional, flash-based CD-rom - about 8 sections, each with something like 5-10 min. of menus, content, animations, vo and music tracks. To an extent, I don't care about the size because it won't be accessible via the internet .
However, my file size seems enormous (my .fla is ~185mb, main .swf is ~12mb and sectional .swfs (those 8 sections) about 1m each). Publishing takes about 10 min.
I'm hoping someone tells me this is "normal", but I have done all sorts of hunting through forums and online and can't find any info on what might be considered a ridiculously huge file.
Thanks for any quick advice!

Working With A Huge XML File
Hi,
I would like an advice on that subject:
I have to develop an application which will take data from a rather big XML file (25Mo)
The numbers of data is about to be 12.000
While doing some test..I can see that the memory quickly grow up to 200Mo!
What is your advice to work with such files?
1) Why (when the XML file is 25Mo) is my RAM eating 200Mo?
2) Wouldn't it be better to load data as they are needed? Without loading everything? And how to do?
3) In others words, ho to do to do it right? ;-)
(You have to know that it will be a local projector file...so no access to any kind of data server)
Thanks VERY much for your help!!
Why The HUGE .swf File Size ?
Hello...
I created a photo slide show of my band (in Sony Vegas Movie Studio 6); & am in the process of rendering it to different formats for various indie music sites (some sites want .mov's...some want .wmv's...etc.)
So...to render to a Flash movie (.swf)...which to be honest is my favorite...I can import an .mov or an .wmv or even an .avi into Flash...& export it as an .swf. But when I do...no matter which format I bring in to use (or the size of that file)...the resulting .swf file size is huge!
For example...I can use an .wmv of my project, which was output from Vegas at 256Kbps/29.970fps w/ compression; & which has a file size of 6 MB...& the resulting .swf is 140 MB !!! Conversely...I can bring in an .avi or an .mov output at the same speed/frame rate...w/ no compression...& which sport file sizes in the area of 3 GB...& the resulting .swf file is still 140 MB.
[My movie dimensions for this first project are 420 X 315...to accommodate my Bio table width at myspace music, while maintaining a 4/3 aspect ratio.]
So...how do I get the file size down when making a Flash movie? I can upload the big file (140 MB) to my server & hopefully it will stream OK to the various sites...but at 140 MB a pop...my web bill could skyrocket, right?
Anyway to make a Flash movie under 10 MB's? I'm not getting why importing a compressed, smaller size format would result in a larger .swf.
Thanks,
Biggy Rat

Exporting Huge File From Mac For Pc
I made a huge presentation in flash which is about 115MB. It was built on a mac, but will be projected from a laptop which is a pc. Currently, I exported the movie as a quicktime movie, so it has a .mov extension. When transferred on a pc, quicktime doesn't recognize the file, and windows media player doesn't as well.
My question is what is the best method of exporting a huge flash presentation from a mac, so that it can be read on a pc.
For the time being, we opened it in quicktime pro, and exported it as a .avi movie. It seems to work, but the movie seems more choppy. Anyone with experience in this area?
Thanks in advance. This is very important, and i'd like to know before Monday.
Please include specific export settings if possible. I also noticed when I exported it as a .swf file, it was too huge and was taking a very very long time to open.

File Sizes?
i have build a small file that is essentially: 1) a graphic: small square that is 8pix by 9pix 2) a button: up state includes the small square 3) a movie clip: a expanding square 4) another movie clip: that has the button and movie clip #1 in it.
the whole thing comes together to make a rollover/trailing effect.
my questions is:
when i resize the small square symbol to make it smaller 6pix by 6pix. why does it it double the file size afterward? that is the only change made, and the file size jumps from 136k to 272k. what am i doing wrong?
thanks for your reply.
File Sizes ?
Why is it that my fla is 467 KB and the swf only comes to 20 KB? I am aware that there is compression or soemthing with you create the swf file... but that seems like too much? Why is there such a difference in file sizes?

Getting File Sizes
Hello!
I have written an AS3 code which preloads multiple images one at a time and my question is if there is any method to get the file sizes of those images before starting the whole preload process? This way i could get the total size of all images and Flash could display the percentage loaded of all pictures.
The code so far:
Code:
var img:Array = ["first", "second", "third"]; // file names of images
var imgFinal:Array = new Array(); // array to place loaded images
var imgToLoad:Number = 0; // image to load
var imgLoaded:Number = 0; // images loaded
var imgFile:URLRequest;
var imgLoader:Loader;
if(imgToLoad == imgLoaded) { // checks if previous image has loaded
imgFinal[imgToLoad] = new MovieClip(); // putting image to new mc
imgFile = new URLRequest("img/" + img[imgToLoad] + ".png");
imgLoader = new Loader();
imgLoader.load(imgFile); // start loading the image
imgLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, imgLoadComplete);
imgLoaded++; // to ensure that the next image won't start loading yet
}
function imgLoadComplete(event:Event):void {
imgToLoad++;
}

SWF And FLV File Sizes
Hello,
I have an flv file and the same flv file in an swf file. Both files are the same size. So, it seems that it doesn't matter, whether you import an flv file or an swf file, to keep your file size small. Is this correct ?
Thanks,
Paul
Swf File Sizes...?
Hello,
I have just added a new preloader to my site which displays the number of bytes loaded so far aswell as the total number of bytes.
http://www.sjmoore.co.uk/
I am using the functions getBytes() and getBytesLoaded() and simply outputting the values to dynamic text fields.
The total number of bytes shows as 401149 - however when I look at the file size of my .swf on my machine it says it is 317k.
Why is this? Surely the bytes counter should be reading the same as the file size? Unless my preloader is including something else? But I don't see how this could be.
Not really a major problem - but I just wondered why...
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
SWF File Sizes...
I'm creating a site for a friend that has a ton of bitmap (i.e. non-vector images) in it. I've knocked down some of the picture quality but can't go too much lower without it looking horrible.
Right now the swf is about 3 mb ... are there any tricks/techniques for optimizing a swf so that you can get reduced file download size without having to reduce quality (or size)?
I've got other elements that will be loaded externally in addition to the 3 mb swf....
Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Small Wmv File, Huge Swf File
hi all,
i imported an 850K .wmv video onto the stage of a .fla file, but even if i import it at 50% quality, the published .swf is about 7MB. does anyone have an idea why the .swf would be so big?
do quicktime .movs work better for this type of application in flash?
cheers,

Huge File Size On Export
Hey, i'm trying to do a CDROM video sampler, i've got 6 videos that total of 10 mins in quicktime at 320x240. On export, the file size of the projector is 288Mb and takes about 2 minutes to load on the computer!!
I've got them all sitting on one scene, would it make a difference if i split them up into 6 individual scenes?? Or should i not bother and just stick with Director??
Thanks
Huge Embedded .avi File Won't Preload
I have created a flash movie which basically is just an interface to show a .avi file. I have created a movie clip, and imported the .avi to the library, then placed it in the movie clip which makes it 1120 frames long. Problem is that the .avi is 296mb originally and when it is embedded in my .fla, the resulting .swf file is 113mb!! I have tried placing the following preloader script in the first frame of my movie (the first frame is named "preload"):
MovieSize = _root.getBytesTotal();
LoadedSize = _root.getBytesLoaded();
PercentLoaded = LoadedSize / MovieSize
percent = Math.floor(PercentLoaded*100);
showPercent = percent + " %";
if (PercentLoaded < 1) {
gotoAndPlay("preload");
}
else {
gotoAndPlay("moviestart");
}
Then the third frame is named "moviestart". The huge movie clip is located in the third frame.
This is not the only preloader code I have tried... So far, nothing will preload this monstrosity!!! I have tried loading this .swf into another movie, but nothing seems to work! Any suggestions?? (The requirements for this project are that the .avi file is played through flash!!)
Thanks for any help you can give!!!
Even Possible? Auto Launch CD/with HUGE Swf File
I'm about to cry like a stupid girl.
This is what the client has asked for:
In short, he wanted a quick flash website that was based on a 5 minute infomercial that he could put on CD and mail to customers.
Easy enough--it's even less than six pages!
Then, he got to talking to a "flash guru" who told him he could put the 5 minute infomercial on the CD as well. So the client decided that he wanted the informercial to auto-launch with Quicktime, then call the flash file, all in a browser window. However, the client's programmer couldn't figure it out, so I got called two days ago and asked if I can use loadMovie to take care of the whole mess in Flash. I said I'd see what I can do.
The "flash guru" used Sqeeze to compress the video into a 30 meg swf file.
QUESTION ONE: Does that seems HUGE to anyone but me?
So far, I've used loadMovie like I knew I could, but the hugeness of the swf is such that on playback, it looks horrible from dropped frames.
QUESTION TWO: I could use a preloader, but wouldn't that take forever to load?
QUESTION THREE: The client would also like to put the whole mess on his website once it's finished. Is he high?
Any ideas? I'm way over budget on time and I'm about ready to drop it back in his lap and tell him he's on his own.
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

[F8] Help With Preloading A Huge File, Gotta Fix Now
I've run into a big problem with a project I did for a client. The swf comes out to 15mb which i know is huge, the client has tons of pics and three videos all of which is embedded, which is what the client demanded. The preloader works on my computer, when i do a simulate download it starts at 1% and goes up to 100% like it's supposed to and then plays the file.
Now the client is saying that when they upload it, the preloader doesn't show up til around 30%. What could be the cause? Or is this something on their end? There is nothing on the first few frames where the preloading takes places, absolutely nothing. Please any ideas or advise as to what could be going on would be really appreciated. I'm at my wits end and the client is demanding this now.
Flash Slideshow HUGE FILE
Hi I just made a flash slideshow, and uploaded it to my website and the file is huge, like 500kb + And it's only 3 pictures.
The reason I think it's so big is because I've used so many frames, as I wanted each picture to hold for a certain duration of time.
Is there any way I can have each picture in the slideshow just hold for 5 seconds without having to add 90 more frames of a static picture?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks -jR

Smaller File Sizes
Please help I am desperate.
I have a website with an intro i made in swish at www.ckyclan.com.
The file size with the background music and images is 1150kb!!! I have used imageready to reduce the image sizes, and streambox ripper to reduce the music size, but is there anything i can do within Swish itself or in its output settings that would reduce the file size?
Symbols And FIle Sizes
I know that using symbols improve file sizes, because the file only has to store the information once....
But what I want to know is if I make a drawing,
resize it so it's really small,
make it a symbol,
and then use that symbol and resize it to how big I want it...
Will it improve the file size??
Large FIle Sizes
Hey Everyone.
I've been having a problem with the file sizes of my videos lately. Anytime I add any sort of song (even just a loop from Flashkit) my file size jumps up to like 5000kb! Maybe it's because they they're .wav files, does that make a difference? If someone could maybe point me towards a tutorial on downsizing the file sizes i'd really appreciate it.
MX Components And File Sizes.
I've been playing around on a very basic level with components, but it is becoming apparent that the load time for a site even using the most basic of them is going to be too heavy to inflict on people using a modem.
Take the FTree, from Macromedia's second set of components, for example. Although the .swf is only 36 KB, it takes a download of 89 KB, or 19 seconds on a 56 K modem, and that is in it's "virgin" state.
Quite a lot of waiting time for only the navigation.
Have these components been designed for the days when everyone has broadband?
And where does the extra 53 KB come from in the above example, the (Action) scripting?
TIA
Lowering File Sizes
I'm trying to figure out how I can lower my file sizes. I'm not sure what to do. I've tried lowering the jpg quality in the publish setting, but it does not seem to help. I was wanting to get others suggestion on lowering file sizes.
the page i'm working on is located here:
http://www.image202.com/2.0/I202_Portfolio_PR.html
Right now it's at: 1.3MB. I'd like to cut that in half for the old school folks at 56k!
Suggestions?
thanks much.
:: Flash File Sizes ::
i'm making a stop-frame animation using flash MX but the file size is at almost 10MB and it's only 25 seconds through!
the file is consisting of .jpg's which makes the size understandable but is there anyway to make it less so it will be easier for download off my website? i've tried zipping it but this only decreases it by a couple of MB.
if there's anyway of shortening the size, i'd be very grateful for any offers.
thanks

Large File Sizes
I create a lot of detailed Flash animation for broadcast. I am quite unsure of it's abitity to handle any file over 2mb, where it begins to bog down severly. I rarely use it for the web, but got used to it's interface. Now I look at ToonBoom for a solution but am not sure I want to learn that workflow as it looks more clunky than Flash. Is there any way to increase Flash's capabilities or should I look to another piece of software for more detailed Flash type animation. I'm using MX2004 PRO.

Compiler, .fla And .swf File Sizes
Hi!
I have this situation with 2 files, all run-time actionscript, accomplishing the same thing but in slightly different ways with these file sizes.
a.fla 112 kb ---> a.swf 23 kb
b.fla 64 kb ---> b.swf 23 kb
Then I have 2 other files, all run-time actionscript, accomplishing the same thing but in slightly different ways with these file sizes.
c.fla 98 kb ---> c.swf 20kb
d.fla 96 kb ---> d.swf 4kb
WHAT IS THE COMPILER DOING? Does the compiler build in efficiencies? Is the goal to shoot for a smaller .swf or is a smaller .swf not necessarily more efficient code? What are the tradeoffs?
Any insight or redirects greatly appreciated.
Thanks much
Bitmap File Sizes
I have a bitmap that I will be using. Would it cut down on the final .swf files size if i use trace bitmap and use that as the image rather than taking the bitmap using break apart and then editing that image throughout the .swf?
Also, is there a standard pixel size for the dimensions of a basic webpage?
thx,
StinkMoe
